A Special Gift
The month of February had always been special, not only because of Valentine's Day but because it brought a sense of warmth even in the dead of winter. The chill in the air couldn't dampen the excitement that seemed to hang in the air of Pallet Town. The houses were decorated with heart-shaped wreaths, and the streets were filled with couples holding hands as they walked to the corner bakery for cookies shaped like hearts.
May Maple had always been an admirer of the holiday, but this year, it meant something entirely different. Her heart beat with anticipation as Valentine's Day approached. She had been planning something special for Ash Ketchum, something that would express how much he meant to her. After months of being together, their relationship had grown in ways she hadn't imagined when they'd first become friends. Now, she felt a deeper connection with him, a connection that went beyond just being his girlfriend. She wanted to create something that would be a lasting reminder of their journey together.
The idea had come to her as she was flipping through an old photo album on a lazy Saturday afternoon, nestled on the couch in her living room. The album was filled with memories of her childhood, family vacations, birthday parties, and the occasional picture of her and Ash from their younger days. As her fingers traced the edges of the photos, she couldn't help but smile at the memories that surfaced. It was then that she realized just how many moments she had shared with Ash.
There was the time when they were both young, riding bikes together through the fields around Pallet Town, laughing as they raced one another to the nearby pond. Then there was the summer they spent volunteering at the local animal shelter, their friendship growing as they spent countless hours together. The memories were endless, and they held such a special place in her heart.
But it wasn't just the past she wanted to celebrate. There were so many beautiful moments they had shared in the present, late-night talks under the stars, spontaneous adventures, and inside jokes that only the two of them understood. May wanted to capture that feeling and bottle it up in a gift that would remind Ash of their connection.
And so, the idea of creating a scrapbook filled with Polaroid memories was born.
The following days were spent preparing. May had been sneaky, making sure to gather all the materials she would need without giving anything away to Ash. She bought a beautiful leather-bound scrapbook from the local craft store, complete with blank pages ready to be filled. Then, she gathered Polaroid film, knowing she would need plenty for the pictures she wanted to take. The more she thought about it, the more the idea seemed perfect. The book would be full of pictures, each one representing a significant moment they had shared, moments that she wanted Ash to treasure forever.
There was only one problem.. she still needed to capture a new memory. Something fresh. She wanted their Valentine's Day to be the icing on the cake, the perfect photo to finish off the scrapbook.
The day before Valentine's Day arrived, May found herself standing in the doorway of Ash's house, watching him toss a baseball to Pikachu. She smiled to herself, feeling a warmth spread through her chest as she admired him from afar. Ash was always full of energy, full of life, and that was one of the things she loved most about him. He had this innate ability to make everything around him seem more exciting, more fun.
"Hey, Ash!" she called out, waving at him as she approached the porch.
Ash looked up, his eyes lighting up when he saw her. "Hey, May! What's up?"
"I thought I'd come hang out for a bit," May said, walking up the steps. "You've got time for a little surprise tomorrow, right?"
Ash grinned. "Yeah, I've got all the time in the world!"
May smiled as she joined him, sitting down on the porch steps. She watched Pikachu race around the yard, its tiny paws making quick work of the small tennis ball Ash had thrown. Her thoughts, however, were still on the memory book she was working on. She had already picked out several pictures from their past, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she needed one more, a photo from this very day.
"Hey, Ash," May said, her voice casual as she tried to keep the surprise under wraps. "Can I ask you for something?"
"Of course," Ash said, looking up from Pikachu. "What is it?"
May felt a slight flutter in her chest. "Can we take a picture? Just… us. I want to make a memory."
Ash looked at her with a raised eyebrow but smiled. "Sure, I'm always up for a picture with you."
She couldn't help but grin as she pulled out her Polaroid camera, setting it up. "I think this one will be a good addition to my scrapbook," she said, her voice light and teasing.
Ash didn't seem to notice the significance behind her words as he positioned himself next to her, his arm casually draped over her shoulder. He was so natural around her, as if they had known each other for a lifetime. May rested her head against his, a contented sigh escaping her lips. Everything felt so right in that moment.
Click.
The camera made its familiar noise, and a small polaroid photo popped out, slowly developing in front of them. May watched with a smile as the image took shape, a perfect shot of the two of them, close and happy, caught in time. She knew immediately that this photo would be the last one to go into the book, the perfect way to end the story of their memories together.
Ash leaned in, taking the photo from her hands. "It looks great," he said with a grin. "I can't believe you're making a scrapbook of all our memories. That's really thoughtful, May."
May's heart skipped a beat as she looked at him. "Well, I wanted to give you something that would remind you of all the moments we've shared. I know we've had a lot of fun together, and I just thought it would be nice to have something tangible."
"You've definitely made me feel special," Ash said, his voice sincere. "I can't wait to see it."
May smiled softly, a flutter of nerves going through her. She had worked so hard on the scrapbook, pouring her heart into each page. But hearing Ash's words made everything feel worth it.
The day of Valentine's Day arrived, and May was practically buzzing with excitement. She had spent the entire morning adding the final touches to the memory book—writing little notes beside the photos, adding stickers and decorations to the pages to make it personal and special. It was a labor of love, and it felt so right as she carefully placed the final photo in the book, the one they had just taken the day before.
She arrived at Ash's house later that afternoon, her heart racing with anticipation. The sun was beginning to set, casting a soft golden glow over the town, and she couldn't help but feel like everything was falling into place perfectly.
"Hey, Ash!" she called as she stepped onto the porch.
Ash looked up from where he had been sitting on the steps, his smile widening when he saw her. "Hey, May! Happy Valentine's Day!"
"Happy Valentine's Day!" she replied with a smile, holding out the scrapbook. "I have something for you."
Ash raised an eyebrow, curious. "What's this?"
May grinned. "It's for you, Ash. Open it."
Ash carefully took the book from her, his fingers gently brushing against hers. He flipped it open, and as he began to look through the pages, his expression softened. The book was filled with memories, every single page a snapshot of the time they had spent together. The pictures ranged from their school days to more recent adventures, and May had included little notes beside each photo, explaining what the moment meant to her.
"This is incredible, May," Ash said quietly, his voice full of wonder. "I can't believe you put all of this together."
"I wanted you to have something that would remind you of us," May said, her voice soft but sincere. "Something to look back on whenever you want to remember the good times."
Ash smiled, closing the book and looking up at her. "You've made this the best Valentine's Day I've ever had, May. Thank you."
May felt a rush of warmth in her chest as she looked at him, her heart swelling. "You're welcome, Ash. I'm just glad you like it."
Ash stood up, taking her hands in his, and for a moment, the world seemed to slow down. He gazed at her with such affection that it made her feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
"You mean everything to me," Ash said softly, his voice filled with emotion. "This book… it's perfect. Just like you."
May's heart fluttered, and before she could say anything, Ash pulled her into a gentle embrace, his arms wrapping around her tightly. She smiled against his chest, feeling the warmth of his love surrounding her.
"I'm so glad we made these memories together," she whispered.
"Me too," Ash replied, holding her just a little tighter. "I can't wait to make even more."
As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, May knew that this Valentine's Day would be one they would always remember. Ash gave her a kiss on the lips to seal the approval. It was just the beginning of a lifetime of memories they would create together.
