Living out in the forest with her mother and the Ox King was the safest place for Usagi to be raised. Besides, Chi Chi didn't want to move out of Goku's house. She couldn't bear the thought of it. She wanted to keep all memories of Goku as close to her heart as possible.

Especially since Gohan left. He was an adult now and they hardly got to see him anymore. He was always facing off against the Androids, never winning.

Usagi played outside in the river, splashing her feet in the water.

"Usagi, don't do that!" her mother warned. "You're going to get your dress wet!"

Usagi pouted. "But it's fun!" She didn't have any friends. All of Chi Chi's friend's kids lived too far and West City was far too dangerous. It was a wonder that Bulma chose to stay.

"Usagi," Chi Chi pressed on. "Please, get inside. You've got to study."

Usagi sighed, gathering the hem of her dress in her fists as she stepped out of the river bed and onto the grass. She didn't understand why she had to study. School stopped being in session due to the Androids.

"You're our future," Chi Chi would always say. "When you rebuild this world, you need to have knowledge, and knowledge is power."

Usagi ran into her house, dripping water onto the floor from her wet feet.

"Usagi!" Chi Chi grabbed a mop and started cleaning up after the girl.

Usagi dipped her head, feeling ashamed. "Sorry..."

Chi Chi sighs, mopping up the water. "It's okay... You're still little so you don't know any better. Just start reading your history book, okay?"

Usagi nods, climbing into her designated chair at the family table. The opens her book and continues on the chapter they left off of yesterday. She only made it as far as a single paragraph before she started getting distracted. Usagi hated studying. She wished Gohan was still here to help her. He was smart.

Once Chi Chi was done mopping, she came over to try and quiz Usagi on what she just read.

"Usagi, are you even paying attention?" Chi Chi snapped her fingers in front of Usagi's face.

"Huh, what?"

Chi Chi crossed her arms. "What did I just ask you?"

"Um, uh..." Usagi's eyes went blank. Luckily, she didn't have to answer as there was a knock at the front door. "I'll get it!" Usagi bolted up from her seat and dashed to open the door.

She was a little disappointed to say the least.

"Trunks...?"

"Hey bunhead." Trunks motioned inside. "Can I come in?"

Usagi opened the door wider, hoping that Gohan was with him.

He wasn't.

"Trunks!" Chi Chi and the Ox King gathered in the main room. "What brings you here?" Chi Chi asked.

"I just wanted to check on you guys since Gohan can't." the boy said, rubbing the back of his head.

Hearing Gohan's name, the family crowded around him.

Chi Chi spoke for all of them. "And how is Gohan?"

"He's good," Trunks replies. "He really misses you guys."

Usagi furrowed her brows, frowning. "Then how come he didn't come himself? How come he sent you?"

Chi Chi looked down at her daughter. "Usagi, you don't say things like that." she said, despite wondering the same thing.

"He didn't send me," Trunks reassured. "I came to check up on you guys."

Ox King reached over to pat Trunks on the head. "Well do come over more often! It's always nice to see you."

"And how is Bulma?" Chi Chi added. "And your sisters?"

"They're all doing pretty good too. Ami helps mom in the lab and Rei on the other hand... She's kinda weird." Trunks recalls how Bulma says that Rei takes after their father's anger issues. She's very standoffish and hardly interacts with the rest of her family.

"And how about you?"

"Oh me? I'm just training wi- I mean..." Trunks but his tongue.

"Gohan!" Usagi shouted. "He was about to say to Gohan, he's training with Gohan!"

Trunks waved his hands. "No-no... S-shut up bunhead." He tried to cover up his slip up but it was too late. Chi Chi and the Ox King cornered him into a kitchen cabinet.

Chi Chi's eyes were wide. "You're training with Gohan?! You're putting yourself in danger! How does Bulma feel about that?"

Her questions were overwhelming Trunks, he didn't even know where to begin. "Well uh, my mom doesn't know."

Chi Chi and Ox King traded glances.

"Don't tell her..." Trunks pleaded. "Please."

Chi Chi sighs, scratching her head. "Oh alright. Just stay safe, alright? And tell Gohan to come visit!"

Trunks smiled warmly at the woman's concern. "Heh, will do. I better get going now."

The family gives the boy some space. "Okay, take care Trunks," Chi Chi said. "And tell everyone we said hi."

Trunks saluted them all on his way out. "I will! Goodbye everyone! Goodbye bunhead!"

"Stop calling me that!" Usagi stepped out and watched Trunks leave from the doorway.

"But it's true," Trunks said, pointing to her hair. "You got buns on your head."

Usagi growled, balling up her hands into fists. "Well how would you like it if I start calling you swim trunks or boxer briefs?"

"Hmm, I dunno. I don't think I'd like it very much."

"See? Now you know how I feel."

The two children stood in silence for a few seconds. Trunks looking absolutely lost and Usagi glowering at him.

"Yeah." Trunks turned to leave finally, a smile on his face. "Anyways... seeya later bunhead!" He took off flying.

"Grr..."

Usagi's mom joined her outside, laughing. "Kids... You're probably going to end up together one day."

"Mooom!" Usagi's face turned red as she puffed her cheeks out.

Chi Chi stifled her laughter by holding her hand over her mouth. "Sorry, sorry. I'm sure you'll be happy however and whoever you end up with."

"Hmph." Usagi went back inside, hoping that her mother forgot all about her studies as she tried to go to her room.

Unfortunately, this wasn't so.

"Oh no you don't young lady! It's back to the books for you!"

Usagi retraced her steps and sat back at the table, hanging her head. "I hate this..."
