Yo!
Welcome to Chapter 3!
If you know me, you know I love replying to everyone's reviews. But wow...the last chapter got around 80 reviews, and that's just insane! I want to take a moment to thank every single one of you who took the time to leave your thoughts. Trust me, I've read every review, and I genuinely appreciate the support.
That said, answering each one would be way too much, so I'm really sorry. But If there's anything specific you want to ask or discuss, feel free to PM me. I'll always do my best to reply!
To my older reviewers who have been reading with me for ages... I wanna say I still see them reviews, trust me. They stand out more since I remember your names :)
Funny thing, is that out of all those reviews, no one even came close to guessing what I have planned for the first arc. This is just the intro arc before the real story begins, and with only this chapter and one more left in it, things are about to get crazy.
Some of you might be shocked… and yeah, maybe a few of you will hate it—but trust me, this has been the plan from the very beginning. Stick with it, and you won't be disappointed... hopefully?
Also, quick note - I know Naruto's ability, Limitless, translates to Mugen, but for the sake of keeping things smooth while reading, we'll stick with calling it Limitless.
Alright, enough talking let's get into it.
Enjoy the chapter!
Chapter 3 - Broken Laws
The following weeks after Naruto unlocked his Shikai were a whirlwind of intense training and reflection. The transformation of his Zanpakutō, Limitless, marked a turning point not just in his growth as a Shinigami, but in how others perceived him.
Word spread quickly throughout the Academy, Naruto had achieved Shikai. It was unheard of for a student to unlock their Shikai before graduation, let alone wield it with enough mastery to be considered a future powerhouse. Whispers followed him everywhere, but Naruto barely noticed. He was too focused on learning to harness the vast, almost incomprehensible power of Limitless.
Naruto stood alone in a secluded training ground late at night, holding Limitless in his hand. "Collapse the boundary, Limitless," Naruto whispered, releasing his Shikai. The blade's energy flared, and the air around him seemed to distort, space itself bending as though viewed through warped glass.
He took a deep breath, focusing on one of the core abilities of his Shikai Infinite Divide. The principle was simple in theory but difficult to control.
By manipulating spatial boundaries, he could slow down anything approaching him, making direct attacks nearly impossible to land unless his opponent's spiritual pressure greatly exceeded his own.
Naruto extended his hand toward a nearby boulder. With a flick of his wrist, he channelled Limitless's energy, creating a thin, translucent barrier between himself and the target. He picked up a nearby rock and hurled it toward the boulder. As it passed through the barrier, its speed slowed dramatically, crawling forward as though trapped in invisible molasses before gently tapping the surface of the boulder.
Naruto grinned. "That's more like it."
But keeping the barrier active for more than a few moments drained his Reiatsu quickly. He could feel the strain as beads of sweat formed on his brow.
The next day, Unohana watched as Naruto practiced under her supervision. His control over Limitless was improving, but it was still raw, and his overreliance on brute strength showed.
"You're approaching it like a battering ram," Unohana said calmly, stepping forward. "But Limitless isn't about force it's about finesse. Control the space, don't force it to bend."
Naruto frowned, wiping sweat from his face. "It's harder than it looks. Every time I try to keep it going, it drains me fast."
"That's because you're treating it like a wall," Unohana explained, drawing her own Zanpakutō. "Think of it as a flowing river guide its current rather than damming it."
She raised her blade, and a faint ripple of energy spread outward, distorting the space around her. In a single, fluid motion, she stepped forward and reappeared behind Naruto, faster than he could track.
"Your barrier slowed me down, but only for a moment," she said from behind him. "Against someone faster or stronger, it won't hold unless you improve your control."
Naruto turned, eyes narrowing as he focused. "Okay. Flow, not force. Got it."
Taking her advice, he activated Limitless again, feeling the energy ripple outward. This time, he concentrated on keeping it fluid, allowing the barrier to shift and adapt with minimal resistance. When Unohana moved to strike him, the barrier slowed her approach just enough for him to react, raising his blade in time to block.
"Better," Unohana said, her calm expression betraying a hint of approval. "Now, maintain it."
They continued for hours, with Unohana pushing him further each time. By the end, Naruto's breathing was laboured, but his control over Limitless had improved significantly.
Naruto's rapid progress did not go unnoticed by the Academy's instructors. As he neared the end of his second year, he was already being considered for early graduation a rare honour reserved only for prodigies.
To assess his readiness, the instructors arranged a final sparring match. Unlike previous tests, this one would be different. Naruto wouldn't be facing a fellow student he would be facing three seasoned instructors at once.
As he stepped into the training arena, the gathered crowd of students whispered excitedly. Many of them had never seen Naruto's Shikai in action, and anticipation hung thick in the air.
"Ready, Uzumaki?" one of the instructors asked, drawing their Zanpakutō.
Naruto grinned, gripping Limitless tightly. "Let's do this."
The match began with a flash of steel. The instructors attacked in unison, their blades coming at Naruto from different angles. He activated Limitless, the air around him distorting as his barrier slowed their strikes just enough for him to evade.
One instructor leapt back, firing a Kido spell at him. Naruto shifted his barrier, allowing the spell to pass through part of the distorted space before compressing it. The spell collapsed inward, dissipating harmlessly.
Another instructor attempted to flank him, but Naruto used Blue Domain, one of his Shikai's secondary abilities. The space around the instructor warped, pulling him toward a central point before Naruto dashed forward, landing a light strike on his opponent's shoulder.
By the time the match ended, Naruto stood victorious. The instructors nodded in approval, acknowledging his skill and control.
"He's ready," one of them said. "No doubt about it."
That evening, Naruto stood once again beneath the cherry blossom tree, holding Limitless in his hand. The stars above mirrored the swirling energy within his blade, and for the first time, he felt a true connection to it not just as a weapon, but as a part of himself.
"Kaa-san," he said softly, thinking of Unohana. "I'm almost there. Almost ready."
He didn't just want to graduate he wanted to stand beside her, to prove that her belief in him hadn't been misplaced. With his Shikai now a part of him, Naruto knew that the real journey was just beginning.
And he was ready...
The Academy buzzed with excitement. Rumours spread quickly through its halls Naruto, the once in a century prodigy, was nearing his graduation. Most students took six years to complete the rigorous training required to become a Shinigami. Naruto had done it in just under two years.
He had earned every bit of the attention he received. His mastery of Kido, Hakuda, and Zanjutsu was undeniable. He had unlocked his Shikai before even stepping into the Gotei 13 something that had only happened a handful of times in Soul Society's. But perhaps most remarkable was his rapid improvement in Hoho. Though it had been his weakest area at first, his relentless practice with Shunsui's and Ukitake's guidance turned him into one of the fastest students the Academy had ever seen.
And now, the final day had come. Naruto stood in the central courtyard, surrounded by his fellow students and instructors. He could feel the weight of their eyes on him, their curiosity, admiration, and even envy. None of it mattered to him. His only concern was what came next.
The head instructor, a tall and imposing man. He stepped forward, his stern expression betraying the pride he felt for his star pupil.
"Today, we gather to acknowledge something rare in the history of the Shinigami Academy," He began, his voice carrying across the courtyard. "Naruto has completed his training in record time, demonstrating mastery in every field, including the unlocking of his Shikai. His achievements are nothing short of extraordinary."
There was a murmur of approval from the gathered crowd. Many of Naruto's peers had long accepted that he was on a different level from them. Still, whispers filled the air as people speculated about what squad he would choose.
"He's going to Squad 11, right?" one student whispered.
"Maybe Squad 2, they're all about speed."
"I bet Captain Katori already invited him to Squad 8."
Naruto, standing with his arms crossed, listened to the murmurs with mild amusement. He knew exactly where he was going, but he wasn't in a hurry to explain himself.
The instructor turned to Naruto, nodding. "Uzumaki, as a graduating student, you have the right to choose which squad you will join. Have you made your decision?"
Naruto stepped forward, his glowing blue eyes scanning the crowd. He could see the anticipation in their faces, the excitement as they waited for him to say something dramatic.
"I've made my choice," he said, his voice steady and clear. "I'm joining Squad 4."
The courtyard fell silent.
For a moment, no one spoke. The shock was palpable. Even the instructor, who had been expecting something more... traditional, blinked in surprise.
"Squad 4?" one student muttered, disbelief evident in his tone.
"Did he just say Squad 4?"
Naruto's expression remained calm, unfazed by the reactions. To him, it wasn't a complicated decision it was the only decision.
The instructor cleared his throat, regaining his composure. "Very well. You have chosen Squad 4. It is an honourable decision, though... unexpected."
Naruto smirked. "Not to me. It was a no brainer, really."
The head instructor nodded, though he couldn't hide the curiosity in his eyes. "Would you care to explain your choice?"
Naruto shrugged, glancing toward the horizon where the Fourth Division barracks lay. "I'm not here to fight for glory or recognition. I'm here because of one person Captain Unohana. She's been training me from the start, and everything I am now is because of her. I'm going where she goes. Simple as that."
The murmurs resumed, but this time, they carried a different tone one of admiration and respect.
"He's loyal," someone whispered.
"Maybe that's why he's so strong."
"Still, Squad 4... that's surprising."
Naruto turned back toward his instructor, his grin widening. "Besides, if Squad 4's all about healing, doesn't that mean they need someone who can fight? Someone to protect them?"
He blinked, then slowly nodded. "I suppose that's one way to look at it."
Shunsui and Ukitake, standing at the back of the crowd, exchanged amused glances. "Didn't see that coming, did you?" Shunsui murmured.
"I suspected it," Ukitake replied, smiling faintly. "His bond with Captain Unohana runs deep."
After the ceremony, Naruto made his way to the Fourth Division barracks. He found Unohana waiting for him in the gardens, her serene expression unchanged. Despite the calm, Naruto could sense a faint pride in her gaze.
"You chose Squad 4," she said quietly, as though testing the words.
"Of course I did," Naruto replied, grinning. "I told you I'm going where you go."
Unohana stepped forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You are aware of what this means, aren't you? Squad 4 is not known for its combat prowess. You will be expected to learn the art of healing, not just fighting."
"I know," Naruto said, his glowing eyes steady. "But someone's gotta protect you guys. And if I can learn to heal along the way, even better."
Unohana's smile deepened, though it remained subtle. "You continue to surprise me, Naruto."
"Good," he said with a laugh. "Can't have you getting bored."
For a moment, they stood in comfortable silence, the bond between them stronger than ever. Naruto knew that this was just the beginning graduation was a milestone, not an end. He would continue to grow, not only as a Shinigami but as someone who could stand beside Unohana and make her proud.
Some time later, Naruto had officially graduated from the Academy, marking him as the youngest and fastest Shinigami to do so. Now a member of Squad 4, he stood in middle of his small room, tugging awkwardly at the new black Shinigami uniform.
At 5'3", Naruto wasn't particularly tall, and the loose fit of the standard issue uniform made him look even smaller. His short blond hair stuck out in wild spikes, and his glowing blue eyes, an unusual trait unique to him, shone brightly as he inspected his reflection.
"This thing's kinda baggy," he muttered, adjusting the sleeves.
Despite the awkward fit, Naruto couldn't help but feel a surge of pride. He was officially part of Squad 4, and he had no regrets about his choice.
A sharp knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts. "Uzumaki! The lieutenant's waiting for you outside. Don't keep him waiting."
Naruto frowned, grabbing his Zanpakutō which shimmered faintly as he slid it into his sash. He stepped outside, finding himself face to face with Seinosuke Yamada, Squad 4's lieutenant.
Seinosuke Yamada at 5'7, thin with dark hair and a perpetually annoyed expression. He carried himself with an air of impatience, as though constantly frustrated by the world around him. Despite his apparent bad attitude, it was clear from the way he stood that he took his position seriously especially when it came to Captain Unohana.
"So, you're the kid everyone's been talking about," Seinosuke said, looking Naruto up and down with a critical eye. "Fastest to graduate, huh? Don't let that get to your head."
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "I wasn't planning to."
"Hmph. Good," Seinosuke said, turning on his heel. "Come on. Captain Unohana wants you familiar with the barracks, so I'm stuck showing you around."
As they began walking, Naruto noticed that Seinosuke's tone was sharp, but his actions were precise and respectful. Despite his outwardly grumpy demeanor, it was clear he took pride in his role.
"You don't seem too thrilled about this," Naruto said casually.
"I'm not," Seinosuke replied bluntly. "I've got better things to do than babysit a rookie. But Captain Unohana asked me personally, so here we are."
Naruto grinned, his glowing eyes flicking toward Seinosuke. "You respect her a lot, don't you?"
Seinosuke's expression softened slightly, though he didn't respond immediately. After a moment, he spoke, his tone more serious. "She's the best captain in the Gotei 13. People see her as a healer, but they don't know half of what she's capable of. I owe her a lot, so yeah, I respect her."
Naruto's grin widened. "I get it. She's the reason I joined Squad 4 too."
Seinosuke shot him a glance, clearly surprised by the sincerity in Naruto's voice. "You're a strange kid," he muttered before continuing the tour.
Seinosuke led Naruto through the different sections of Squad 4's barracks, pointing out key areas along the way.
"This is the main infirmary," he said, gesturing toward a large building filled with rows of beds. "Most of our work happens here. You won't be doing much healing at first you'll start by assisting the senior members until you learn the basics."
Naruto nodded, taking in the sight of the busy infirmary. He could see healers moving efficiently between patients, their hands glowing with faint Kido as they tended to wounds.
"You'll also help with maintaining the Seireitei's infrastructure," Seinosuke continued. "Squad 4 handles everything from plumbing to structural repairs. It's not glamorous, but it's important."
They moved on to the supply rooms, storage areas, and finally, the training grounds. Seinosuke stopped and crossed his arms, eyeing Naruto critically.
"You're not like most recruits we get," he said. "You're a fighter. But don't think that means you can slack off when it comes to healing. Captain Unohana expects you to learn both."
Naruto's grin returned. "Don't worry, I'll learn. I'm not here to slack off, I'm here to get better."
Seinosuke sighed, though there was a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Good. You're going to need that attitude."
Over the next few days, Naruto settled into his new role. He worked closely with Seinosuke assisting with minor tasks while learning the basics of healing and support. Though he was eager to learn more advanced techniques, he understood the importance of starting small.
In his free time, Naruto continued his personal training, working on refining his Shikai. Under Unohana's guidance, he focused on improving his control over Limitless's abilities, particularly Infinite Divide and Blue Domain. His progress was steady, though he often pushed himself to the point of exhaustion.
"You're overdoing it again," Unohana said one evening as she watched him struggle to maintain his barrier.
"I have to," Naruto panted, his glowing eyes dimming slightly from fatigue. "If I'm gonna protect Squad 4, I need to be stronger."
Unohana's expression softened. "Strength is important, but so is knowing your limits. Rest when you need to, Naruto."
He reluctantly nodded, sheathing his Zanpakutō. "Fine, but only because you said so."
One morning, as Naruto was assisting with inventory in the supply room, Seinosuke approached him with a rare look of approval.
"You're being sent on your first mission," Seinosuke said. "It's a joint operation with Squad 11. A Hollow attack was reported near the outskirts of Rukongai, and your going to provide medical support for the cleanup."
Naruto's eyes lit up with excitement. "Finally! When do I leave?"
"Soon," Seinosuke replied. "Get your gear and meet them at the gate."
As Naruto hurried off to prepare, Seinosuke watched him go, shaking his head with a faint smile. "That kid's got energy, I'll give him that."
Naruto made his way toward the main gate, ready to embark on his first mission as an official member of Squad 4. His heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. He had trained hard, and now was the time to prove that he belonged here.
As he approached the gate, he saw Captain Unohana waiting for him. Her serene expression was unchanged, but Naruto could sense a subtle tension beneath her calm demeanour.
"Heading off already?" she asked softly, her voice carrying the usual warmth but laced with something else concern.
Naruto grinned, adjusting the sash holding his Zanpakutō, "Yeah. It's just a support mission, right? No big deal."
Unohana stepped closer, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Naruto, listen carefully. You're going to be working alongside members of Squad 11. Their ways are... different from ours. They pride themselves on strength and combat, and they may not respect what we do."
Naruto frowned, his grin fading slightly. "Are you worried they'll say something to me?"
"I'm worried you'll let it get to you," she said gently. "Keep a clear head. Remember why you're there to provide support, not to prove yourself to them."
Naruto met her gaze, seeing the quiet intensity in her eyes. "I get it, Kaa-san. I'll keep my head clear."
Unohana's lips curved into a faint smile at the familiar title. "Good. And when you return, I have something important to tell you."
Naruto blinked in surprise but didn't press further. "Alright. I'll be back soon."
With a final nod, Unohana stepped back, watching as Naruto headed toward the gate. Though she trusted his abilities, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of worry. This mission would be more than just a simple task it would be a test of Naruto's resolve.
When Naruto arrived at the gate, he found a small group of Squad 11 members waiting. Their leader was the 5th seat in the squad. He was a tall, muscular man with wild black hair and a scar running across his cheek. He leaned casually against his Zanpakutō, eyeing Naruto with a mixture of curiosity and disdain.
"So, you're the Squad 4 prodigy, huh?" the man said, his tone mocking. "Didn't expect you to be so... short."
Naruto sighed, already feeling the tension Unohana had warned him about. "Yeah, I get that a lot."
The other Squad 11 members chuckled, clearly enjoying the moment. One of them, a burly woman with short-cropped hair, crossed her arms. "What's a healer doing on a mission like this? Don't you guys usually stay back and patch us up after the fight?"
Naruto's glowing blue eyes narrowed slightly, but he forced himself to stay calm. "I'm here to help, same as you. Just because I'm in Squad 4 doesn't mean I can't fight."
The 5th seat smirked, pushing off his Zanpakutō and stepping closer. "We'll see about that, kid. Try not to slow us down."
Naruto clenched his fists but said nothing. He remembered Unohana's words keep a clear head. Proving himself to Squad 11 wasn't why he was here.
The group headed toward the outskirts of Rukongai, where reports of a Hollow attack had come in. As they travelled, the Squad 11 members continued to throw occasional jabs at Naruto, but he ignored them, keeping his focus on the mission ahead.
When they arrived at the scene, the damage was evident. Several small buildings had been destroyed, and frightened villagers huddled together, their eyes wide with fear.
"Alright," the 5th Seat Squad 11 said, drawing his Zanpakutō. "We'll take care of the Hollows. You, healer boy stick with the villagers and don't get in our way."
Naruto ignored the insult and turned to the villagers, assessing their condition. Most were unharmed, though shaken, but a few had minor injuries that needed attention.
"Just stay calm," Naruto said, kneeling beside a young boy with a scraped knee. He pulled out a small cloth and began cleaning the wound. "We're here to help."
The boy nodded nervously, watching as Naruto worked quickly and efficiently. Despite the mocking from Squad 11, Naruto's focus didn't waver. He knew his role protect and heal. That was what mattered.
Just as Naruto finished tending to the villagers, a sudden burst of spiritual pressure filled the air. He looked up to see several Hollows emerging from the forest, their twisted forms looming over the village.
"Finally!" the Squad 11 leader shouted, grinning as he charged forward with his team. "Time to show these things who's boss!"
Naruto remained behind, watching carefully. The Squad 11 members fought with ferocity, their strength and aggression overwhelming the Hollows. But as the battle continued, Naruto noticed something there were more Hollows than expected, and some were circling around toward the villagers.
"I can't let them get through," Naruto muttered, drawing his Zanpakutō.
He stepped forward, placing himself between the villagers and the approaching Hollows. "Collapse the boundary, Limitless."
His Shikai activated, the shimmering blade rippling as space distorted around him. One of the Hollows lunged, but as it neared, its movements slowed dramatically, caught in the invisible barrier Naruto had created.
With a swift strike, Naruto cut through the Hollow, its form disintegrating into particles of spirit energy.
Another Hollow charged, but Naruto used Blue Domain, pulling it toward a central point before finishing it with a clean slash. Though he was outnumbered, he moved with precision, his Shikai's abilities giving him the upper hand.
By the time the battle ended, the Squad 11 members returned to find Naruto standing among the defeated Hollows, his Zanpakutō sheathed and the villagers safe behind him.
The 5th Seat of Squad 11 stared at the scene, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You... took those out by yourself?"
Naruto shrugged. "Yeah. You guys were busy, so I handled it."
The tension in the air hadn't yet fully settled after the Hollows were defeated. Naruto's calm declaration of "I handled it" lingered in the minds of the Squad 11 members, especially their leader.
The kid had just finished off several Hollows by himself without breaking a sweat, using abilities that most of them had never seen before.
But before anyone could say anything more, another wave of Hollows emerged from the treeline, larger and more aggressive than the last.
"More incoming!" one of the Squad 11 members shouted, gripping their Zanpakutō.
Naruto's eyes narrowed, and he stepped forward again, activating his Shikai without hesitation. The shimmering, translucent blade of Limitless rippled with cosmic energy as the air around him distorted.
"Stay back," Naruto said, his voice steady. "I'll handle this."
"You?" The 5th Seat scoffed. "Kid, I don't know what kind of forbidden Kido you're using, but this isn't something a fresh recruit can handle alone."
"It's not Kido," Naruto said coldly, raising his blade. "And I'm not using anything forbidden."
Before he could retort, Naruto launched forward with Shunpo, appearing in front of the first Hollow in a blink. His blade shimmered as he swung, the air warping as the Hollow's movements slowed to a crawl before being cut down in a single clean strike.
Another Hollow lunged at him from the side, but Naruto didn't falter. Using Blue Domain, he pulled the creature toward him, slashing through it with minimal effort. The remaining Hollows hesitated, as if sensing the danger, but Naruto didn't give them a chance. Within moments, he had wiped out the entire wave, leaving only disintegrating particles of spirit energy in his wake.
Naruto sheathed his Zanpakutō, turning back toward the Squad 11 members. "It's done."
The Squad 11 members exchanged uneasy glances. They had seen enough to know that what Naruto was using wasn't ordinary. His abilities were unlike anything they had encountered before warping space, slowing down enemies, pulling them toward a central point. It was the kind of technique that seemed far too advanced for someone who had just graduated from the Academy.
"He's gotta be using forbidden Kido," one of them muttered.
"Yeah, there's no way a rookie should be able to pull off something like that," another added.
The 5th Seat frowned, stepping forward with his Zanpakutō still in hand. "Alright, kid. You've shown you can fight, but don't think that means we trust you. Whatever you're doing... it's not normal."
Naruto crossed his arms, his glowing blue eyes narrowing slightly. "I told you, it's not Kido. It's my Shikai."
"Yeah, sure," one of the Squad 11 members scoffed. "Figures you're from Squad 4. No wonder Captain Unohana left our squad. Everyone knows she doesn't like fighting anymore."
Naruto's fists clenched at the remark, but he forced himself to stay calm. "That's not true."
"Oh, come on," The 5th Seat said, his tone mocking. "Everyone's heard it. She used to be the Kenpachi, right? Then she stopped fighting and ran off to Squad 4 to patch people up. Guess she got tired of being strong."
Naruto's Reiatsu stirred faintly, a warning sign that went unnoticed by the Squad 11 members.
"Face it, kid," another member said with a smirk. "Your captain's getting weak. Maybe she was strong once, but not anymore. Our captain now he's real strength. And the Head Captain? He's on a whole different level. Unohana doesn't even compare."
Naruto's Reiatsu flared sharply, cutting through the air like a knife. The sudden pressure made the Squad 11 members tense up, their hands instinctively moving toward their Zanpakutō.
"I don't care what you say about me," Naruto said, his voice low and deadly. "But badmouth Captain Unohana again... and I'll kill you."
The 5th Seats eyes narrowed as he felt the intensity of Naruto's Reiatsu. It wasn't just powerful it was controlled, focused, and radiating a dangerous edge that set him on edge.
"You think you can take all of us on?" he asked, his tone serious now.
Naruto's glowing eyes turned cold, devoid of any hesitation or fear. "Try me."
"You really think you can take us all on, huh, kid?" he growled, gripping the hilt of his Zanpakutō tightly. "Fine. Don't say we didn't warn you."
"Draw your blades, or don't," Naruto said, his voice devoid of emotion. "But if you insult Captain Unohana again, you won't get another warning."
The 5th Seat didn't hesitate. With a shout, he drew his Zanpakutō, and the other Squad 11 members followed suit, as they charged as one, their blades cutting through the air toward Naruto...
In the quiet of her quarters, Captain Unohana sat alone, the soft glow of a single lantern casting long shadows across the room. Outside, the barracks were silent, save for the occasional sound of footsteps or the rustling of leaves. Her mind, however, was far from at peace. The events of the day she meet Naruto replayed in her thoughts Naruto's flare of Reiatsu, his cold eyes, and the ruthless precision with which he had killed that bandit.
It was not the brutality that troubled her. She had seen far worse. It was the underlying emotion behind his actions his desire to protect her at any cost. That desire was what truly worried her.
Her thoughts drifted back to a time long ago, a time when she had been a very different person. The first Quincy war had raged across the lands, and as the Captain of Squad 11, she had led her men into countless battles. The thirst for combat, for the thrill of crossing blades, had driven her then. She hadn't cared how many Quincy she killed. She hadn't cared about anything except the fight itself.
She remembered the blood-stained fields, the endless clashes of Reiatsu, and the lifeless eyes of the enemies she had slain. Back then, her sword had been her only companion, her identity forged in the crucible of battle. The Gotei 13 had relied on her strength, her ferocity, her unyielding will to destroy anything that stood in their way.
She hadn't thought twice about what it meant to take a life, whether Quincy or otherwise. She had revelled in the chaos, finding meaning only in the act of killing. It had defined her, consumed her, until that day until he had appeared…
The boy who had wounded her. The boy who had fought her not out of hatred or pride but simply for the love of battle. When he defeated her, she had realized that her path as the Kenpachi was over. She could no longer lead Squad 11, not when she had been surpassed by someone who embodied the very spirit of combat better than she ever could.
That realization had changed her. She had left behind the blood soaked path of the Kenpachi and taken command of Squad 4, dedicating herself to healing rather than killing. It had been a hard transition, but one she knew was necessary. She had sought redemption through her new role, guiding others, healing those who had been broken by the same wars she had once glorified.
But now, with Naruto under her care, she felt that same unease stirring within her. His potential was undeniable. His loyalty to her was unwavering. But his eyes, those glowing blue eyes, hid something deeper something darker. She could sense it, just as she had sensed it the day they first met.
From the moment she found him in Rukongai, she had known he was different. His Reiatsu had been wild, untamed, and immense, but it wasn't just his power that had caught her attention it was the way he looked at her. Even as a boy, alone and lost, there had been a glint in his eyes, a defiance, a will to survive at all costs. He had reminded her too much of herself.
Over time, Naruto had grown. He had trained hard, learned quickly, and become someone respected by many. On the surface, he acted like any other young Shinigami brash, determined, sometimes even playful. But Unohana saw what others didn't. She saw the shadow lurking beneath his exterior, the vision of a boy who had been alone all his life, who clung to strength because it was all he had ever known.
That shadow was what worried her most. She feared that if left unchecked, Naruto would walk the same path she had once walked a path of blood and death, driven by a desire to protect those he cared about at any cost. His devotion to her was touching, but it was also dangerous. He didn't just respect her, he revered her. And that reverence could lead him down a dark road.
Unohana leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees, her hands clasped tightly together. She had made mistakes in her past, mistakes that had cost countless lives. She didn't want Naruto to make those same mistakes. He was young, strong, and filled with potential not just as a fighter but as someone who could truly make a difference in the Soul Society.
But how could she guide him without stifling his growth?
How could she keep him on the right path when she herself had once walked the wrong one for so long?
She closed her eyes, taking a slow, steady breath. "I must guide him," she whispered to herself. "Before it's too late."
Naruto's connection to her was deep, perhaps deeper than either of them realized. He had clung to her because he had no one else, and in return, she had allowed herself to grow attached to him, seeing in him the potential for something better something she had never achieved herself.
But if she wasn't careful, that connection could lead to something far worse. Naruto's loyalty to her was absolute, and if it ever became twisted by anger or despair, he could become something far more dangerous than she had ever been.
Unohana stood, her gaze calm but resolute. She would not let that happen. Naruto had already proven that he was capable of great things, but he still had much to learn. And if guiding him meant confronting her own past and her own mistakes, then so be it.
As she prepared to leave her quarters, she sensed a sudden flare of Reiatsu in the distance familiar, wild, and dangerously sharp.
"Naruto..." she murmured, her eyes narrowing.
Without hesitation, she stepped outside, her presence radiating calm authority as she moved swiftly toward the source of the disturbance. Whatever was happening, she knew one thing for certain...
She had to reach Naruto fast...
Naruto's expression didn't change as he activated his Shikai once more.
"Collapse the boundary, Limitless."
Immediately, the air around him shimmered and distorted. The first attacker's blade slowed dramatically as it neared him, the boundary distortion halting its momentum entirely. Naruto sidestepped effortlessly, his blade flashing once in a clean, precise arc. Blood sprayed into the air as the attacker fell, lifeless, before even realizing what had happened.
"Too slow," Naruto said coldly.
Another came from his side, but Naruto activated Blue Domain, the space around the attacker warping violently. The man was pulled forward uncontrollably, his balance disrupted, and before he could react, Naruto appeared in front of him in a blur of speed. There was no hesitation Naruto's blade cut through his chest, ending him instantly.
"So weak," Naruto muttered, his voice devoid of emotion.
Two more charged, one from behind and the other from the front. Naruto's eyes flicked toward them, dead and calculating. He didn't move until the last possible moment. With Infinite Divide, he slowed the attacker in front of him to a crawl, stepped around him, and in one fluid motion, cut through his back. Before the second could react, Naruto spun and drove his blade into his chest, ending him in a single, brutal strike.
Blood pooled around his feet as the bodies of Squad 11 members hit the ground.
The remaining Squad 11 members hesitated, fear flickering in their eyes. They hadn't expected this. They had thought they were dealing with a reckless boy, someone they could intimidate and overpower. Instead, they were watching a massacre unfold before them.
"Don't back down!" the 5th Seat barked, though his voice betrayed a hint of uncertainty. He stepped forward, Zanpakutō raised high. "I'll handle him myself!"
Naruto's eyes flicked toward the leader, cold and unfeeling. "You should've stayed quiet."
With a roar, the 5th Seat charged, his blade aimed directly at Naruto's chest. Naruto waited until the last moment, then activated Infinite Divide again. The leader's blade slowed to a crawl, its momentum vanishing as it neared Naruto.
In one fluid motion, Naruto sidestepped and swung his blade. The cut was clean, precise, and ruthless. The 5th Seats arm was severed at the elbow, the severed limb falling to the ground with a dull thud. Blood sprayed into the air as the leader stumbled back, clutching the stump where his arm had been.
The remaining Squad 11 members froze in place, shock and fear overtaking their earlier bravado. None of them dared to move.
Naruto's Reiatsu flared violently, crackling like an electric storm around him. His gaze swept over the remaining members, daring them to continue.
"Anyone else?" he said coldly, his voice edged with deadly intent.
Before anyone could respond, an overwhelming presence washed over the battlefield—a calm yet terrifyingly powerful Reiatsu that silenced everything. The tension vanished in an instant, replaced by an oppressive stillness that made even the bravest warriors hesitate.
Captain Unohana stepped forward, her serene expression unchanged, but her eyes carried a sharp, commanding light. She had sensed Naruto's flaring Reiatsu from afar and had rushed to the scene, though she hadn't expected to arrive to such a grim sight.
Her gaze swept across the battlefield, taking in the fallen bodies, the severed arm, and the blood stained ground. For a moment, her eyes lingered on Naruto, who stood in the centre of it all, his blade still dripping with blood.
"Naruto," she said gently, though her voice carried undeniable authority. "That's enough."
Naruto's breathing was heavy, his grip on his Zanpakutō tight. For a moment, it seemed as though he hadn't heard her. The weight of his emotions—his anger, his desire to protect Unohana's honour still burned within him.
"Now," Unohana said, stepping closer, her voice calm but firmer.
Naruto's eyes met hers, and something in her gaze cut through the storm of his emotions. Slowly, he lowered his blade, deactivating his Shikai. The shimmering distortion in the air faded, leaving only the aftermath of the battle.
The Squad 11 members remained frozen in place, too stunned to speak or move. Blood dripped from their 5th Seats stump as he gritted his teeth in pain, but none of them dared to act under Unohana's sharp gaze.
Naruto took a deep breath, his Reiatsu finally settling. "They insulted you," he said quietly, his voice still edged with lingering anger. "I couldn't let them get away with it."
Unohana's expression didn't change, but there was a faint glimmer of understanding in her eyes. "We will talk later," she said softly. "For now, let's tend to the wounded."
She turned to the remaining Squad 11 members, her calm demeanor returning fully. "Take your 5th Seat to the barracks. I will personally see to his injury."
The surviving members of Squad 11 hesitated before nodding quickly, gathering their wounded leader and retreating without a word. Their earlier pride and bravado had vanished, replaced by a wary respect and fear for both Naruto and Unohana.
As the Squad 11 members disappeared into the distance, Unohana turned back to Naruto. Her expression was unreadable, but her voice was gentle as she spoke.
"Come with me, Naruto. We have much to discuss."
Chapter 3 - Broken Laws End
A/N
And that's the end…
Some of you might be wondering, why would Naruto go this far? Well… he's a boy driven by impulse rather than rational thought. Having grown up without a real family, he sees Unohana as the closest thing to one, and there's no way he was going to stand by and accept what others said or did to her. It was never in his nature to back down, especially when it involved someone he cared about deeply.
But… every action has consequences, and this one will cost him dearly.
Naruto has broken several of the Soul Society's laws. You know what that means...
How will Unohana intervene?
Can she even do anything to save him at this point?
Only time will tell…
Oh, and for those of you curious about the pairing, I've finally made my decision. I won't reveal it just yet, but expect an official announcement in the next chapter.
