The grief after the war infected the minds of the whole wizarding world. The devastation, like a missing limb, was visible but everyone tried not to look at it too hard. Everyone attempted to get on with their lives after the funerals and the Death Eater trials, but the sorrow stretched tight, just beneath the surface of their eyes. Harry was exulted as the Man-Who-Conquered and the publics desire to see him live a normal life was like a fever dream. Eyes followed him everywhere he went, hands reaching out to touch him, trying to get a bit of luck simply by breathing the air near him. It was too much for a man who never wanted any fame in the first place. He hid, he raged, he pleaded, and eventually just got used to the fact that he would never have true privacy with his true face.

The grief turned to rage when Harry wouldn't do what was expected of him. He didn't become an Auror. He didn't settle down and get married right away or have kids. He didn't accept the prominent positions laid at his feet or accept that he needed to work in the Ministry. In fact people were outraged that he seemed content to take his position as a godfather seriously and spend all his time raising his godson Teddy. The wizarding world was disgusted that their savior was content to be a single father so young, especially to a child that was a natural born werewolf. It also didn't help that as the years went on he noticed that he wasn't aging.

His face and body stayed the same while his friends grew more filled out. After a devastating murder attempt when Teddy was seven years old that took Andromedas life, and should have taken Harrys, he discovered that he couldn't die. The realization shook him. He took Teddy and fled the wizarding world, moving every 5 years so no one would suspect him. Their second move took them to Forks, Washington. Teddy is 17 years old now, and Harry 34. This is where our story begins.

"Uuuuugh," Teddy exclaimed. "Whyyyy did we have to move to this stupid town? I was one year from graduating that high school in New York! One year! Why couldn't we have stayed there until I got my degree?"

"I told you, the wizards were close to finding us, and Mrs. Rapsidey was starting to suspect me. You know I'm still not very good at the aging glamours, and I promised myself that we would move at least every five years. I know you don't like it Ted and I am sorry. I know it sucks to start over and have to make new friends, but it's only one more year of high school and then you can do whatever you want to do. You won't have to move with me every five years, you won't have to stay with me at all if you don't want to, but you will always have a home with me, wherever I am. I'm sorry, can you bear with it?" Harry's softly spoken words filled the forest green Cadillac that he was driving to their new home.

Teddy sulked and his hair turned an even darker shade of blue to show his displeasure. Harry stifled a sigh, because he knew letting it out would make his son feel even worse, and continued to drive down the twisting country roads, through a thick forest, and into the clearing that held their new home. The two story home in front of them had large windows, that didn't show the interior of the home, but reflected the forest surrounding it. The front door was a warm inviting red, with a golden lion on the knocker. A light rain started just as they got out of the car, which made Teddy even more glum.

"Great. Just great. I hate this place already." Teddy hunched near the door, waiting for Harry to come with the keys. Harry did ostensibly glum, though inwardly quite taken with the home so far, and looking forward to what Forks had to offer. When they got inside, Harry flicked his wand to turn all the lights on, and looked at the earthy tones and high ceilings with admiration. It was even better than the listing photos.
"You can pick whichever room you want, I'll start on dinner okay? We'll feel a little better with some food in us I'm sure. I'm sorry you hate it here, but let's try to keep an open mind okay? Maybe you'll learn to love it soon!" Harry turned his sparkling green eyes on Teddy, and tried to put all the hope and love he has for his son into that single look. Teddy sighed and looked at his feet, then hugged his dad tight around the middle, before running off to check all the rooms and chose the best one. Harry shook his head fondly and took several trunks out of his pocket. A few well-placed taps of his wand and they were enlarged and opened. Another swish and furniture, cookware, food, carpets, and paintings were zooming around the house, finding their proper places.

Harry smiled, shook his head, and walked into the spacious kitchen to get started on Teddys favorite dinner food. By the time the steaks were ready, Teddy had come downstairs, a little less upset if the small smile, and slightly lighter blue hair was to be believed.

"All unpacked?" Harry asked as he stirred a bit more milk into the mashed potatoes.

"Yeah, the house is not so bad at least." Teddy said as he looked around the kitchen and licked his lips from the smell of the steaks. Harry finished plating the potatoes, and the asparagus and floated the plates to the red oak dining table, along with two small glasses of red wine. They ate in comfortable silence while the light rain from earlier rolled into a gentle thunderstorm.

"We have a few days to get settled here before you start your senior year, is there anything you want to do or buy to make you feel better about being here?" Harry has no problems with money being the Lord of two ancient(one noble) houses, even though he never took up the mantal in the wizengamot that came with the titles. Teddy looked thoughtfully at his fingers while he chewed the last bite of his rare steak, before he smiled.

"Yes. A car!" he went on to describe how he wanted an electric blue Bugatti and that it had to have all the specs he wanted. "I know I didn't need a car in New York, but I absolutely will need one here! It might as well be one that goes fast!" He grinned from ear to ear as his hair changed to electric blue which was his normal happy color lately.

"You've got it bud," Harry grinned back, happy to make his son happy.

"Yes!" Teddy exclaimed, pumping a fist in the air and doing a little happy dance in the dining room. "Thanks dad! I love you!" and he ran to hug his dad, knowing that it wouldn't be absolutely terrible to live in this strange town called Forks.

After Teddy went to sleep Harry went outside to ward the perimeters. He cast an impervious charm on his clothes to cast off the rain, and began burying precious stones every 50 feet as he swirled his wand and incanted in Latin and Parseltongue. Two hours later he buried the last stone, sat on the ground and slit his palm with a silver ritual dagger over the earth. He let his magic flow into the ground, watering the stone, and surging to connect all the others he had placed. A swirling flow of wind surged through the grounds and then a rippling dome of magic shimmered up from the ground and over the entire property before becoming translucent. Harry sagged with a gasp. His body aching with physical and magical exhaustion.

He made his way inside and remembered he hadn't set up his own room yet, so kicked his boots off and made his way to the couch. He was too tired to light the fireplace, so he just flopped onto the couch and stared at the cold stones. His last thought before sleep took him was of Teddy, and how he hoped this town was good for him.
