-Page Break-
When Teddy got home after school, the house was dark. He could hear music coming from upstairs, and he followed it to Harry's workroom. The door was open so he could easily see in, and what he saw was one of his favorite sites in the whole world. Harry was concentrated on the wood in front of him, magic on his hands, as he sculpted it into a figure.
He was working on the face now, smoothing his thumbs along the cheeks, and shaping the jaw. It was an enchanting, airy, slim elven woman with a soft look on her face. She was sitting on a large rock with her wrists crossed over her knee. You can almost feel the warmth from the wood, the figure so realistic it looks like it may start to move at any moment. Harry turned around her, to separate the wood for more strands of her hair, and as he did so he saw Teddy and his face lit up like a sun.
"Teddy! You're home!" Harry happily came over to his son, to look him over, "How was your first day? Did you make any friends? Do you like your teachers? Has the staring lessened at all?"
"Daaad, you're asking too many questions, school is fine. It's boring, same old bullocks as always. I did make some friends kind of, I invited them over for dinner tonight." Teddy said with an impish grin.
"That's great Ted! I told you this place wouldn't be so bad once we got used to it a little bit," Harry beamed. "How many are coming over? What are their names? What should I make? A full coarse meal or are you feeling pizza?"
"Oh, seven of them, and you don't need to cook for them, they're vampires." Teddy said nonchalantly and kept his eyes on his dads face. It was frozen halfway between that beaming smile and abject horror. If the music wasn't still playing, a pin could be heard if it was dropped. Slowly Harry's face became expressionless, a hard look hiding behind his eyes.
"Vampires?" He asked.
"Vampires." Teddy nodded, "Don't worry though, they're vegetarian," and he grinned.
"Teddy Edward Remus Lupin you tell me everything. Why are there vampires at you're school and so help me why did you invite them into our home!?" Harry demanded.
Teddy laughed uproariously, his dad's reaction was even better than he had thought it would be. Those vamps really had it coming if they thought they could mess with his dad when he was protecting his son.
Teddy explained how Rosalie came up to him after English class and thought he was breaking some treaty they had with the local werewolves. He chuckled about how they didn't know of magic and had never met a wizard before and how he invited them to dinner that evening at seven.
Throughout his explanation Harrys face never lost it's hardness. "This just doesn't make sense. Who knows how old these suckers are, and you said they've been in the school for two years already? Why in the world would they want to go to high school when they could be hundreds of years old already?"
"Huh, I don't know. I didn't even think about it like that. That is kind of weird though, isn't it? I bet they are sooooo bored. Like I'm bored already, and this is only my first time in the twelfth grade." Teddys eyes had a new light in them, he felt a little bit disturbed for the first time thinking about it.
"Yeah Ted. It's weird, but if they are coming over today then we'll get to the bottom of this, don't worry." Harry assured him, his mind already on a hundred different spells he could use if the meeting went south. "I placed the wards on our house the first night we got here, no one is getting within 300 feet if they have hostile intent to either of us."
Teddy visibly relaxed and nodded. Harry clapped him on the shoulder, "You go do your homework and relax, I'll double check the wards and get dinner started." Harry gave the shoulder a comforting squeeze and went off to the basement. He summoned his ritual dagger, a wooden cup, and conjured a flame to float beside him. He sat in the center of a circle made with ash. In behind him on the ash circle he placed the cup, to his left went the flame, his right a conjured bit of pure water, and in front of him he exhaled and caught his breath in a swirl.
The elements started to spin and he slowed his breathing. He built his will up with the spin, until it was a tangible thing, thick and pouring from his body. The elements mixed with his will. They span faster and faster until they were naught but a blur, and that's when Harry spilled his blood with the dagger. It never hit the floor, for the cup was suddenly there to catch it. It mixed with the water, and the cup caught fire and burned the mix to ashes which got carried away to the boarders of their property. The wards flashed brightly before they settled down and Harry breathed a sigh of relief.
Nothing could touch them here now, and for anyone that tried they would get a nasty shock. Not only would they be flung from the property and unable to enter again, but they would feel a pain as deep as the cruciatus curse. Harry had no issues with hurting people who were trying to hurt him or his son. He was no hero, not anymore.
He spent a few more minuets sitting in the circle, feeling the strength of the wards, before he got up and made his way to the kitchen. He opened the window and summoned several large rabbits and killed them swiftly. He bled them over a large bowl, and when all the blood was out he cleaned and carved them while thanking them for their lives. He put the meat into a large stew pot with lots of vegetables and spices. The meat that wouldn't fit went into the freezer for future meals.
While the stew was cooking he used his wand to pour the blood into seven cups and put a stasis charm on them to keep it fresh. That done he sat down at the table and put his head in his hands. Why couldn't anything ever just be normal? This was supposed to be a quiet boring town. Of course it couldn't be for Harry Potter. Nothing could ever just be simple.
The stew started to smell good, and that brought Teddy down the stairs, freshly showered and looking relaxed. Harry sat up when he heard him coming so he wouldn't see his weakness, and gave him a slightly tired smile when he walked into the room.
"Is that rabbit stew?" Teddy asked licking his lips in anticipation.
"Yes, if these are really vegetarian vampires I thought I should have something for them to eat. I know I normally only make rabbit when we go camping, so I hope that's okay."
"I LOVE your rabbit stew! It's my favorite!" Teddy was so excited and comfortable his eyes changed from the green he normally kept them to a brilliant sky blue. He went over to waft the stew and moan in appreciation.
Harry looked at him fondly before he tensed. His wand flew into his hand and he lowered his body into a battle crouch. Seven people had just crossed the wards. First test passed then, if they meant harm they wouldn't have been able to cross the perimeter.
Quicker than should have been possible a firm knock sounded at the door. "You stay here Teddy. I mean it." Harry said in a tone that booked no argument. He made his way to the door and opened it with narrowed eyes. Seven pale vampires stood awkwardly in front of his house. Two were obviously the coven heads, the man and woman stood in front of the rest. The man had collar length blond hair, and a face that looks like it was kind most of the time, but right now was anxious with a readiness that told Harry he would be ready for a fight in an instant. The woman had caramel hair and a heart shaped face. She carried a bottle of wine that she held out for Harry to accept.
Just as he started to reach out he felt a brush on his occlumency barriers. He hissed and pushed the intruder out of his mind and locked eyes with the pale bronze haired man. "Stay out of my mind vampire. I don't appreciate it. I'm a one strike you're out kind of man so if I catch you in my head again, I'll have the wards eject you from the property and you won't find that nearly as kind as this warning."
Edwards eyes widened and his lips parted in shock. "How did you know I could read minds?"
"I felt you brushing up against my barriers! What, you couldn't feel that? When I pushed you out?" Harry bristled.
"I did! But that's never happened before. I hear minds constantly like everyone is talking at the same time, I will try not to read yours again, but I have never really been able to control it, it just happens naturally. Why can't I read your mind or Teddy's?" Edward asked in wonder.
Harry took a deep breath to calm himself. "I am proficient in the mind arts, and I taught Teddy how to keep his mind safe from intruders when he was younger. You all might as well come in. The stew should be done, and it looks like we have a lot to talk about.
