The Bullhead opens, and prospective students see the mighty school of Beacon as they walk out. Two prospective students were rowdier than the rest as they went along, talking loudly. "We're here, Gogo! Can you believe it?" exclaimed Ben Park, a brown-skinned faunus with lion ears and long, semi-curly reddish brown hair, to his friend. "I can believe it. Well, I can believe I'm here. You, on the other hand, can't," teased Alex "Gogo," Go, a light-skinned boy with short black hair and a scar across his nose. "You take it back!" laughed Ben excitedly as he put Gogo in a headlock. Gogo laughed as he said, "I take it back, I take it back!" Their roughhousing made them accidentally knock down two girls—one in red and one in white. The one in white was about to start tearing into the one in red. "Shit!" said Ben worriedly as he then pulled the two girls up, "Are you two ok?" he asked with concern. "Oh, crap! We didn't mean to knock into you two!" exclaimed Gogo, worried they might have hurt the two girls.
"Get your filthy hands off me!" said the girl in white with anger, as Ben immediately let the two girls go, "Don't you know who I am!" she exclaimed. The girl in red said, "It's okay; it was an accident. Accidents happen," trying to defuse the situation unsuccessfully. Ben and Gogo look at the girl in white and recognize her after a few seconds. "You're Weiss Schnee!" they both exclaimed as a new voice, a girl in black, butted in from overhearing the commotion, saying, "She's Weiss Schnee." "And be careful. We're surrounded by dust! Anything could immediately set it off," yelled Weiss as the girl in red sneezed from the dust that was knocked around. An explosion was set off. With his instincts kicking in, Ben jumped before the blast, covering Weiss and the other girl. Gogo jumped back, avoiding its small blast radius.
After the dust settled, Ben gave a reassuring smile to the two, asking, "Hey, are you both alright?" "We're fine. What ab–" said the girl in red before she was cut off. "BEN!" yelled Gogo, "Are you alright, dude! Anything broken! Do you need a doctor! Oh crap, we need a doctor!" frantically spouted Gogo. Ben got up and helped the two girls again, saying, "Alex. I'm fine," he said with a calming smile. "After all, I'm Big Ben and something like that won't take me down." Putting an arm around Gogo, Ben calmly said, "Plus, it's not like last time. I'm fine, so chillax, dude." This calmed Gogo, and he stopped panicking. "Sorry, man, I'm just worried," said Gogo. "That's why we're best friends," said Ben with a smile. "Aw, that's so nice. I'm Ruby, by the way," said Ruby, fawning slightly at the display of friendship.
"Are we just going to ignore that WE JUST EXPLODED?" exclaimed Weiss. "Pretty much," laughed Ben as he let go of Gogo. Weiss looked away from Ben with a huff, thinking, 'Doesn't this faunus know we could have died? We're lucky the dust in my luggage didn't explode alongside the dust in the air.' "Aren't you going to thank him?" asked the girl in black, somewhat annoyed. "For what?" responded Weiss, annoyed someone else was now butting in. "For saving your life. What are you stuck up, or are all Schnee's like you," asked the girl in black, with attitude. "How dare you! I'm not stuck up. And we wouldn't be in this situation if it wasn't for them," said Weiss, pointing at Ben, Gogo, and Ruby.
"Typical Schnee move, avoiding responsibility and blaming others for their own mistakes," huffed the girl in black as her brows creased in growing anger. The two then walked closer, ready to start yelling at each other. "Ok, this is going too far. You're just escalating the situation," chided Ben to the girl in black, his arms spreading wide as he went between her and Weiss. "Escalating! You're protecting a Schnee! What kind of Faunus are you!" the girl in black responded, "Don't you know what her family has done to the Faunus community?" she asked with increasing anger. "Of course, I know what kind of faunus doesn't. You're bringing up things that are intensifying an already tense situation. You're not helping me. You're just fanning the flame," said Ben; he took a step towards her with annoyance, treading on anger, saying, "So leave." The girl in black stepped back as Ben towered over her, slightly intimidated by the glare on his face, "Tch, whatever. I'm leaving," she said, annoyed at Ben's reaction.
"Well, that happened," sighed Ben as he ruffled his hair, "So you two alright?" asked Ben as he turned his head around to look at Weiss and Ruby. "Yes, I'm fine," said Weiss, looking down with a hint of something that might be guilt. "Me too. Thanks for protecting us from the explosion," said Ruby, "uh, Ben, was it?" she asked. Before Ben could answer, Weiss interrupted, saying, "Here. Take these and leave me alone. And before you ask, they're dust pamphlets to educate you dolts on how dangerous it can be," huffed Weiss as she left the moment Ben, Gogo, and Ruby took the pamphlets reluctantly.
After Weiss left, Ben answered Ruby's question, "So yeah, I'm Ben. Ben Park, nice to meet you," he extended an arm to shake Ruby's hand, and Gogo said, "Sup, I'm Alex Go, but my nickname's Gogo." Ruby shook Ben's hand but stared intensely into his eyes as Ben did the same. For the first time in a long while, it was the first time she had seen another person with silver eyes, "Silver eyes," said Ruby as if the air in her lungs were disappearing, and her eyes widened. Ben's eyes widened in shock as he said, "Woah! This is my first time seeing another person with silver eyes!" Gogo looked at Ruby's eyes and widened his eyes in shock, as it was the first time he'd seen someone other than Ben with silver eyes. "Ah, right, my name. Hi, I'm Rudy Robbs. I mean, Reebey Ross. I'm mean Wuby Wose. Argh," said Ruby, stuttering over herself and messing up her name. Taking a deep breath, she calmed down and said, "Hi, I'm Ruby Rose," with an awkward wave and smile. "By the way, who's the lanky blonde guy over there?" Gogo asked as an awkward-standing Blonde nervously waved. "Ah, he's vomit boy!" yelled Ruby, causing Ben and Gogo to laugh. "I have a name, you know!" said the Blonde as he walked closer, red with embarrassment. "Sorry, it's just that that's the first that popped into my head when I saw you," giggled Ruby. "So what's your name, stranger?" asked Ben, still laughing slightly. "Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it!" said Jaune with complete confidence. Ruby started giggling as Ben and Gogo started laughing again. Jaune became embarrassed by their laughter again. To save face, Jaune said, "Well, my Mom says it's true," but the moment he said it, he realized he made himself a bigger fool as he groaned into his hands, covering his face. This caused the three to start laughing harder. "Well, Jaune, I'm Ben Park," said Ben, pointing to himself with his thumb, "This here is Alex Go, my best friend," he pointed to Gogo. "Sup, I'm Gogo," said Gogo. "And this little lady is Wiby Wobbs," chuckled Ben as he pointed to Ruby. "It's Wosepy Wose! Ack, I mean Ruby Rose," said Ruby as she stumbled over her words, correcting Ben. Jaune laughed as he no longer felt that embarrassed anymore. The newly made group then started walking, heading to somewhere following Ben's direction.

Walking alone was a nerdy-looking boy with glasses and short hair. 'Ok, Eugene, keep it together. Your test scores for everything were extremely low, but you're here! You'll be fine if you can keep your cool and not be singled out. Still, it was cool to see Ben Park and Alex Go in person,' thought Eugene as he walked timidly. Glancing around himself, he became somewhat surprised by who he saw, 'Oh my Oum, that's Gerard Jin from Do-Eui High; he's even taller in person. Eek, it's Cardin Winchester, and he's already hanging with Eddie Moore and Royce Na. Better stay clear of them. Oh no! Over there are Teddy Jin and Chad Jang, the two demons of Seong-il High! Definitely staying away from them. And the rumors were true! Phillip Kim from Imdo High is here at Beacon. The guy already has a posse with him.'
Glancing more quickly, Eugene found someone who didn't look too intimidating to talk to, 'That feminine-looking guy looks easy to talk to. Hopefully, by sticking together, we'll be safe from getting picked on. Or, at the very least, less likely to be picked on,' he thought as he walked towards the person in question. "Hi," muttered Eugene, "Mind if I walk with you?" he asked nervously. The person before him stopped, turned around, and looked at Eugene briefly before saying, "Sure." With that, the two boys started walking together, with Eugene filling in the silence with random tidbits on how not to get targeted and who to avoid. "By the way, I'm Eugene Gale. What's your name?" asked Eugene. "Gray. Gray Yeon," said Gray in a monotone, almost absentminded tone.

"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" said Jaune passionately. Laughing, Ruby said, "Look, I'm sorry! But vomit boy was the first thing that popped up in my head." "You really threw up on her sister's boot?" mightly laughed Ben. "I was aiming for the trash can, but I didn't make it in time," sighed Jaune. "Don't worry, man, life happens," said Gogo while laughing. Silence betook them as they walked when Ruby pulled out her weapon, saying, "So. I got this thing!" The weapon opened up to be a scythe as it stabbed the ground. "Whoa! Is that a scythe?" asked Jaune, shocked by it. "It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" responded Ruby. "A-what?" asked Jaune as what she said flew over his head. Ruby cocked the rifle scythe saying, "It's also a gun." "That's so cool!" said Jaune, amazed. Ben whistled at the sight of it, impressed by its size compared to Ruby. "That looks hard to use, not gonna lie," said Gogo. "Oh yeah, it was, but my uncle Qrow taught me how to use it. So yeah, I'm a bad cookie," bragged Ruby, who got a laugh from the others, "Oh, and by the way, what do you all got?" asked Ruby. "Nothing fancy, just these gauntlets extending over my fists to strengthen my punches," said Gogo, showing off his weapon. "Nice and simple, I like it," gushed Ruby, seeing the fists extend out. "So I have this sword," said Jaune as he took out his sword, "And I have a shield," he said as he raised his scabbard and extended it into a shield. "So, do they transform into anything else?" asked Ruby as she tapped Jaune's shield, making it retract and extend. Jaune then fumbled with it, trying to catch it as it flew out of his arm. "The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of holding it, I can just put it away," said Jaune awkwardly. "Neat, but wouldn't you still get tired by having it by your hip?" commented Ruby. "Yeah, I do," said Jaune dejectedly. "What about you, Ben? What's your weapon?" asked Ruby. "Huh, well, you're looking at it," boasted Ben, pointing to himself with his thumb. "Wait! You don't have a weapon!" gasped Ruby as if what Ben said was sacrilege. "Nah, I like going bare-handed, and weapons never felt right," said Ben as he smirked, "Plus, I, too, am a bad cookie."
This caused the rest to laugh. "Sorry for the overreaction, but I'm a dork regarding weapons. And looking at Crescent Rose, I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it," said Ruby, giggling while a little embarrassed. "Wait! You made that?!" said Jaune, surprised at the fact. "All students in combat schools design their weapons. Isn't that how you made yours," asked Gogo to Jaune. "Oh, it's a hand me down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war." "Sounds like a family heirloom to me!" light-heartedly said Ruby, "Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days." "Yeah, the classics," said Jaune as he sheathed his sword. "I mean, it's not too bad. I just bought these at a huntsmen's store," said Gogo, referring to his gauntlets. "Wait, you also didn't make your weapon!" said Ruby, shocked, "Didn't you go to a combat academy?" "Nah, me and Ben went to Eunjang High here in Vale," answered Gogo. This made Jaune perk up as he thought, 'Wait! They didn't go to a combat academy either. So that means there's hope for me after all.' "A high school! Does that mean you went through the usual school stuff like dealing with bullies, cool kids, school drama, and all that other cool stuff!" asked Ruby, extremely eager to hear their stories. "Well, we didn't deal with all that stuff, well, not exactly. But those are stories for some other time," said Ben, wanting to avoid answering Ruby's eager question, "By the way, Jaune, why were you standing alone near us?" he asked quickly to deflect attention. "Oh, well, for one, that explosion attracted a lot of attention, and two, Ben, you looked easy to talk to until you glared at that girl in the bow. After that, I got too scared to move," said Jaune. Ben laughed sheepishly, saying, "Yeah, I've been told I have that effect." "Plus, my mom always says strangers are just friends you haven't met yet," said Jaune. "Huh, my mom says essentially the opposite," said Gogo. "By the way, Ben," said Ruby, making Ben turn his head towards her, saying, "Yeah?" "Where are we going?" "Huh? I don't know. I was following this road," answered Ben nonchalantly.

Gray and Eugene made it to the open-roofed auditorium filled with people. As they walked further into the crowd, Gray accidentally bumped into a girl in white. That girl was Weiss. When she turned around to see who bumped into her, her face quickly filled with animosity. "I can't believe you're actually here. Gray," said Weiss with a frown. "Hello Weiss, always a pleasure," greeted Gray politely in a monotone tone. "Tch. Save the niceties for someone who cares. I didn't believe Father when he said you were trying out for Beacon. Someone like you shouldn't even be here. Oum knows how many strings he had to pull just for you to get accepted for the initiation process," said Weiss, angered by his presence, "Too bad it'll be for naught, and in the end, you'll just become another stain on our family record. Why couldn't you stay away?" she said with spite, and with a glare, she said," Don't tarnish the Schnee name any more than you already have." In a huff, she walks to another spot to escape his presence. Gray looks at her with a slightly annoyed but otherwise emotionless face as she walks away. "You know Weiss Schnee?!" Eugene asks in a hushed tone with sudden bewilderment. After a few seconds, Gray looks at him and responds nonchalantly, "She's my cousin on my mother's side. Her father is my uncle." Afterward, Gray remains silent and looks back at the podium, deep in thought, which Eugene takes as a signal to no longer ask questions relating to him.
As Weiss left, she thought, 'Argh, the nerve of him being here! And why Beacon, of all places? Couldn't he have stayed in Atlas and gone to Atlas Academy? Why is he always there whenever I try to stand out, overshadowing every achievement I make?' as she thought this, she grew angrier by the second and became like a bomb ready to explode by the slightest annoyance.

'I wonder how Ruby's doing. I hope she's fine. I wonder where she is now? Ah, I think I see her now. Oh, and she's hanging out with three boys,' thought Yang, smiling, 'Huh, wait, three boys. She's too socially awkward to hang with boys by herself. I need to get her away from those hungry men,' thought Yang as she then called out to Ruby, "Ruby! Over here! I saved you a spot!" "Oh, there's my sister! Hey Ben, come with me. I need to show her your eyes," said Ruby enthusiastically as Ben and Gogo followed her. As they left, they forgot about Jaune and left him by himself. "And now alone by myself," sighed Jaune, "Now, where am I going to find some more nice people to talk to?" he said to himself, oblivious to the tall, red-headed girl giving him the eyes from behind.
As the trio approached Yang, she panicked and blurted to Ben, "I'll never accept you!" "What?" he said, confused. "Nothing. Hi, I'm Yang Xaiolong, Ruby's older sister," She smiled, trying to smooth over her panicked blurt. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ben, and this is Alex," greeted Ben while motioning to Gogo. "Sup," said Gogo. "Yang! Look at his eyes!" said Ruby excitedly. Yang looked up at Ben's face and was stunned when she looked at his eyes properly. "Woah. It's been years since I saw another person aside from Ruby with silver eyes," said Yang. Then, with a voice ridden with suspicion but masked with innocence, she asked, "So, how did you meet my little sis?"
"Oh, well, Gogo and I accidentally bumped into her and Weiss Schnee, knocking them down. Afterward, your sister exploded on us," said Ben. "What! Ruby, you had a meltdown just because you were accidentally knocked down!" exclaimed Yang. "No! I literally exploded in front of the school. There was some fire and, I think, some ice," clarified Ruby. "Are you being sarcastic," asked Yang, not buying what Ruby was saying. Scoffing, Ruby said, "I wish. I tripped over that crabby Weiss girl's luggage, and when she was about to yell at me, the two of us were knocked down by Ben and Alex here," as she said this, Weiss appeared behind her listening to her rant. "Ah, Ruby," said Gogo, trying to make Ruby notice Weiss to no avail. "Afterward, she started yelling at Ben, and all I wanted was for her to stop shouting; when I then sneezed, which caused us to explode, Ben threw himself in front of us, protecting us from the blast. And when things were cooling down, some random girl in black butted in and almost started–" An annoyed voice cut off Ruby.
"You!" yelled Weiss, scaring Ruby, who jumped into Yang's arms. "Oh, Oum, it's happening again!" moaned Ruby. "You're lucky he," said Weiss, pointing to Ben, "Jumped in front of us, covering us from the blast. We could have been blown off the cliff." Deadpanning, Yang said, "Oh my Oum, you exploded," shocked that it happened.
"Yeah, we're all okay, y nada paso, so no need to bring up things from the past," said Ben, trying to calm Weiss and avoid more screaming. "It hasn't even been that long since it's happened," complained Weiss. "Even so, it was an accident," said Ruby as she got off Yang, "An accident, plus you gave us those pamphlets, which means we already started making up." "Look, it sounds like you got off on the wrong foot. And it seems like all of you were starting over. So this is the perfect opportunity to become friends." Ruby, being ever the optimist, said, "Yeah! Great idea, sis! Hello, Weiss! I'm Ruby! Wanna hang out? We can go shopping for school supplies!" In a sarcastically enthusiastic tone, Weiss responded, "Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys, like," she then looked around for someone to make fun of when she saw Ben and Gogo giving simple smiles with clueless eyes. This dumbfounded her for a second as she looked away and spotted Jaune behind her, minding his own business; unimpressed with him, she said, "Like tall, blond, and scraggly over there!" Jaune perked up at the mention of him. "Wow, really?!" said Ruby with the sarcasm flying over her head. With no enthusiasm and a glare, Weiss said no, quickly shutting down any attempt to become friends with Ruby. Their attention was drawn to a tall man with gray hair dressed in green with glasses, and a tall blonde woman with glasses went on the stage as the man began to give a speech, "I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to protecting the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy needing purpose and direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." Finishing that speech, he walked away using a cane. The tall woman then went to the microphone, saying, "You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed," finishing that she walked away. "That was short," said Ben. "Yup," said Gogo stretching. "He seemed kind of. Off," said Yang. "Almost like he wasn't even there," added Ruby. "Well, me and Gogo are gonna head off on our own for now and get lunch. See you guys later tonight. Bye," said Ben as he and Gogo left the girls. Jaune regrouped with them and tried to shoot his shot with Weiss, who regretted mentioning Jaune.

Everyone began leaving the auditorium, and Cardin Winchester started to be on the prowl once enough people left, looking for an easy picking. Those who knew of reputation did their best to stay away from him. Eugene was one of these people. He nervously thought, 'Damn, Cardin Winchester is out on a prowl. I better just keep my head down. I don't want to become his breadrunner for the rest of Beacon.' He and Gray walked outside, though Gray ignored Eugene's nervousness. They found a table to sit at, and Gray began studying from a booklet he had while Eugene did his best to look unassuming.
After a while, Cardin finally chose a victim. The effeminate-looking Gray. He walks up to Gray, who pays no attention, focusing on studying, and loudly says, "Man, what a string bean we have here. I wonder if he's actually a chick." Cardin lifted Gray and looked down his pants.
"HAHA. He actually is a dude. Heh, Wow, he's packing down her–" BAM. Cardin gets elbowed in the face by Gray, letting him go. Then, in quick succession, Gray tied Cardin's hands behind his back and kicked the back of his knees, making him kneel. As Cardin kneeled, he angrily began to speak, "You mother fuc–" until a slap from Gray cut him off. "Do you know who I am–" he tried speaking again until another slap hit him. "Just you wait until I break–" Slap. Gray couldn't care less as he slapped him repeatedly in the same spot on his face.
Cardin's face swelled with pain, and tears threatened to release. A bruised cheek with a cut, a tear in his lip, and finally, a bloody nose is what he had. His aura couldn't do anything due to the slaps repeatedly making a weak point on his face. Gray stopped momentarily, and his face was tense with silent anger. Eyes piercing like a demon. "You don't get it. Do you?" he said, slapping Cardin again. "Make a scene in front of me again, and next time, I'll gouge out your eyes." Just like that, Gray Yeon had debuted in Beacon with a cold demon-like demeanor before initiation began.
