Chapter 16
We flew and flew and flew, until Cynelith asked with impatience, "Are you kidding me? We flew for hours and I didn't see any place that matches your explanation!"
I felt a little weird, too. We have flown on the bird for a long time, but no cracks, no fissure. I could feel that if I didn't show Cynelith what I explained, she would be mad again.
Just then, I heard a scream! It was from Cynelith. I looked down, and I saw something that made my blood run cold. Many shadows flew towards us, and they were getting closer and closer! I felt cold from head to toe. Everything bad that has happened in my whole life has remained in my head by those evil creatures. Many sounds began yelling in my head.
You're nothing, says my teacher. He would say that if I got a bad mark.
Come on, dude. Give me your money. You don't need it. says Ah-Lizard in my head. What a bully she is.
Leave me alone, Aurora! My dad would yell at me like that after he drank. Keep your attention away from your mother. Don't let me hear you talk about her ever again.
Suddenly, I felt the bird lift up. I looked surprisingly nearby, and I saw Cynelith. She was driving the bird away from the monsters. And the bird flew so fast that soon all of the monsters were left behind.
"Thank you," I said to Cynelith before I finally got my mind back. "Thank you for saving me again."
"Everything is good to say—you won't need to be saved another time," Cynelith said in a plain voice. "Let's keep on going."
We kept on flying and finding the fissure. Luckily, we finally found it. Just at the place the monsters had come in.
"Are you ready?" I asked in a little excited voice. Cynelith nodded with an excited expression, too.
The bird flew into the fissure. Cynelith looked shocked at the view about the windows.
"I have never known a place like that," she whispered.
"You see," I said with a little excitement, "I didn't lie to you."
Cynelith said nothing. She turned her head away to see other things. Suddenly she yelled to me, "Stop! Stop! Can you fly to that window?"
"Why?" I asked. "You know now it's really dangerous. You know that any more travel could make the fissure bigger. The thing that we need to do now is travel back to the place where you and I belong. Not to other places."
"No!" Cynelith suddenly said. "Please, just take a little look. It's really special." I looked to where she pointed. It did look really special. It was glowing a different kind of light. It looked warm, and I felt like I was standing under the sun on a winter morning. I don't know why, but my mind had changed.
Just take a look, a voice whispered in my head. It won't cost you too much, just get close. Even the bird seemed to hear it, too. Without my direction, it flew forward.
