Arc 1 - Return To The Roots Of PreCure Power~! The PreCures Rediscover The History Of Saints And Hydras~! - Episode 1
Song: Believe me (ELITE) · Takeshi Abo
Part 1
Universe: Earth-PCA04 (*1)
The night was quiet and peaceful. The winds blew across the plains of the simple town of Kibougahana (*2). A young man with black hair and brown eyes covered with black-colored spectacles, would walk with hands tucked into his pockets as he admires the field of beautiful flowers, of various types. He wore a dark blue jacket with white lines on his shoulder, black pants, grey socks, and Converse white shoes with grey coloring.
He steps out of what appeared to be a twisting grandfather clock-like portal that resembled the turning of gears which tick and go, before it eventually disappears behind him.
He took in the fresh air, which help to form his pondering thoughts. There was a person he would like to pay a visit too, on this very night, alone. His eyes, weary for what felt like years had passed by his very own eyes, would view a plot of land that was home to about 20,000 or more species of flowers from all over the world, many of them were endangered and rare, and some of them could never be seen anywhere else in Japan. All of them were lovingly cared for at the hands of an old woman who was in her 60s or 70s, and yet her strength still carries on.
The woman who was both his mentor and his adoptive grandmother. Kaoruko Hanasaki. Cure Flower. (*3) The woman who had once saved the world against an empire and its ruler that wanted to turn his world into a desert. He stopped walking for a bit as he quietly looked at her from afar. She may look elderly, but the beauty from her former youth was still present in the young man's opinion. Hidden behind her mind was a keen sense of wisdom in which she would at times impart to him whenever he at times paid a visit.
She wore her working clothes. A dark green turtleneck dress beneath a light red, long-sleeved top, and a white lab-coat. She also wears tights, dark brown shoes, and a necklace with a red and gold ornament. Her hands were covered with yellow gardening gloves, which he used when carefully handling the plants.
His eyes spot her watering the flowers with a graceful smile on her face, using the silver watering can that sprinkled liquids. Then he looked to her side and see that she wasn't alone. A familiar fairy. The woman's fairy partner. A large olive green fairy with a yellow abdomen and face, and a heart pattern on his chest, with a heart-shaped tail which is green and yellow. He had a brown curved horn on his head, small eyes, and thick lips, with a mostly expressionless face. The young man knew this fairy was the most respected of his kind, especially because he was the fairy partner of Cure Flower. His name was Coupe. Similar to his partner, he too had his own sense of wisdom.
"Hmm?" Coupe noticed him. He glanced at his direction, his eyes widening. He gave a little grunt, which made Kaoruko stopped what she was doing.
"Hmm? What is it, Coupe?" She would say.
Coupe pointed her towards the young man who was only a few meters away. Kaoruko looks surprised, before it eventually turns into a sweet, grandmotherly joy.
"George..." She muttered his name. George Kurai (*4). She immediately puts the can down and pulls of her gardening gloves, placing them to the former. She head towards him, with Couple following her. She reached for the young man and hugged him, with the latter responding in kind.
"...I see."
Kaoruko smiled a little brightly while pouring green herbal tea into the teacup that was placed on the table. Coupe was a few meters away, watching the young man who was seated on a chair. The young man had just finished explaining to her the general details of why he was there.
"...You'll be transferring to L'Avenir High School in Hagukumi City (*5) sometime soon, which means that you would be meeting Hana-chan (*6) and the others (*7). Though..." She looked at him with a concerned frown. "...How are you feeling about this?"
"...I don't know," The young man admitted to himself as he took a sip of his cup, tasting the calming sensations to soothe his nerves. As he puts his cup down, he would gain a solemn frown. "...But I do intend to keep my promise."
Kaoruko smiled sadly. She knew what that promise entailed. She glances towards the moonlight and spoke softly. "It had been a year for this world since Zero Flashpoint. Some things had changed, for better or worst, and yet much of our world's history still generally remained intact."
"There are still consequences nevertheless," George said as he too looked at the moonlight and admire its gaze. "That also includes my promise. I'm done running from it."
Kaoruko responded by gently brushing George's hair. "Ah, that reminds me George." He looked at her with a curious frown. "Tomorrow morning, there would be a little gathering. It's going to happen in the KIRAKIRA Patisserie (*8), which would transfer itself to Hana-chan's hometown for the occasion."
The young man paid close attention as the old woman listed down the teams that would attend. "There's Tsubomi-chan and her team, there's Hana-chan and her team, there's Nagisa-chan and her team (*9), there's Haruka-chan and her team (*10), there's Mirai-chan and her team (*11), there's Hikaru-chan and her team (*12), there's Nodoka-chan and her team (*13) there's Natsuumi-chan and her team (*14), there's Yui-chan and her team (*15), , there's Sora-chan and her team (*16), there's Ayumi-chan and her fairy partners (*17), and of course, there's Ichika-chan and her team (*18) who are hosting the event."
The young man would grow silent for a bit, before muttering. "I noticed that the other teams aren't mentioned."
"Oh, the others can't come right now," Kaoruko explained with a softer smile. "Most of the teams have certain things they needed to attend to, but they all generally do show their support for the event to be successful."
"...So why tell me?" George asked, but he knew why. Kaoruko would want him to at least come and see the event for himself. He didn't even need to show his face, just attend and see. It's not like I have anything else to do, he thought. Besides, watching out for the PreCure has always been my duty as king.
Kaoruko smiled knowingly, not needing to answer that question directly, but only a brief silence before speaking again. "Hmm, are you a little worried about what could happen in the event?"
The young man sighed. "I'm not really surprised at this point that something could happen in that event. Almost, if not every time, the PreCure teams gather, they would face a new threat that has its own goals and methods, and the PreCure triumph against them all the same. I have no need to get involved in those types of fights, because they are more than capable of handling them just fine."
"Ah yes, I suppose so," Kaoruko smiled, before it turned a bit sad. "Though something did came very close to wiping the Cures out." (*19)
George knew what she meant. She was right. It did came a bit too close. In fact, it was so close that George would have perhaps tried to intervene, but had been dissuaded by a cosmic force of nature.
The Phantom Stranger. (*20)
He often appears in the most decisive moments, especially when everything almost seems lost. He recalled such divine encounter fresh within his mind. George had wondered how he was so easily suaded to listen to him, all things considered. Perhaps it was because of the man's voice. His tone which was... oddly gentle and accommodating for a cosmic being of his magnitude. There was also his flashing bright eyes that shared those traits of his voice. Everything about him exuded peace and calm. It helped George to stop and reflect, and even take a step back. That was the first impression that continued to linger and embedded itself deep within his psyche.
"Worry not, George Artorius (*21)," The Stranger said. In terms of physical appearance, he was a tall man with a dark blue hat which creates a shadowy gaze that covered half of his face, and the only portion visible was the glowing bright white eyes. He had a dark blue trenchcoat and cape, a black outer shirt which covered his white shirt, and a golden chain that formed an upside down triangle which held a golden medallion of unknown origin. "It is not truly the end of your world, but rather yet another new beginning. The one who had destroyed the Cures will she herself become a Cure (*22). But it cannot happen, unless you trust the Cures and take a step aside, and watch with the eyes of faith."
He listen. Things came to past just as he prophesied. The world continued on... in a sense.
George's face grew darker as the sins of the past. He maintained that visage unconsciously before his name was called. "George," He could hear and feel his grandmother shake him from his thoughts, as he turn towards her, who had now sported a worried yet knowing face. Coupe also showed similar worries.
"...I'm sorry, obaa-chan, Coupe," He apologized, as he sighed.
The sins will never die.
"Obaa-chan, Coupe, thank you for the tea, but I should probably get going," the young man stood up from his seat and looked at them. "I have an errand that I need to run."
"Already?" Kaoruko made a saddened expression. "Can you not simply rest for a bit? I believe that other people can take over from your watch hours."
"I would agree however..." George's face became solemn. "This is something I have to do."
Kaoruko sighed, knowing just how stubborn her grandson can be. Though, in these circumstances, it was rather understandable. Even when things have gone back to normal for the past year, she can still feel that the conflict is far from over.
"Well, I would know better than to try and stop you. Just..." Kaoruko was gently cut off, when George spoke.
"I'll come to the event, I promise," George responded as his back turned, not showing his solemn face, making Kaoruko perked up a little, as she slowly smiled.
George would keep walking, just as the wind was picking up speed. A gear-clock portal would appear suddenly as he was swept away, just like the wind.
He took his leave quietly as he walked across the deserted phantom roads of the forest. His eyes narrowed as he would spot what appeared to be sickly grey creatures with glowing white eyes, carrying shields.
The Helless (*23). He thought. Creatures that are born from the darkness of hearts and who are more aligned with the mere depths of the inferno. Their colors were black, with a few white spots on their skin. On their chest was an upside cross symbol. They showed their sharp teeth and spikes from the bodies as they recognized him. For George, they came from different shapes and sizes and colors, but they nevertheless are generally malevolent, and a threat to mankind. A threat that would need to die by the fire.
"...George," They all stated with growling, softer tones and flashing white eyes. "Artorius..."
Each step was calculated, just as he sees the creatures move forward with aggressive movements. They moved faster than the speed of a human...
ZIKAN CROSSFIRE
A majestic voice echoed from nowhere. A glowing silver metal cross with emerald circular jewels found on all four sides of the cross would materialize from his right hand. It's upper edge forms into a white-colored blade that can cut through any living and unliving thing. George had lived... for a long time...
"Grrr-Grak!"
He dodged a swipe from the creature, and use his legs to properly aim his strength and weapon, slicing the monstrous creature in half. Continuously, he drew himself forward, and struck down the other from the left, then in a continuous motion of left and right, slicing through the enemies like bread and butter. No blood. The enemy only evaporated as gasps echoed from their lost.
The others would begin to try to pounce at him, as they jumped from the nearby trees. George stops. As they grow closer, George did a magnificent spin that would slice them all down in a 180 degree angle. He then aimed his sword to the back, at the left, striking down a hellish creature from behind, disappearing as a result.
"Grrrrrk..."
The Helless moves swiftly throughout the dark-edged night, using the shadows to move on the prowl as they try to strike at him. From all angles, George could sense them, like a sixth sense trying to get him to pay attention. He had honed this instinct to almost perfection... after many years of combat. The creatures tried to tag and dogpile at him, but to no avail. With graceful skill, he aims his sword in various directions, neither wild nor random. It was as if he were merely holding a pen, but larger.
And he slices through the enemy, all the while... his mind occupied one thought.
...Hana.
"...!"
In the morning, there awakened one Hana Nono from her bed. She gasps for breath as one thought crossed her mind. She grasps her heart as she muttered.
"George..."
What was that? She thought grimly. A strange dream had occurred. She would slowly get up from her bed and tried to open the door to the veranda where she could feel the winds sweeping as the morning sunrise was visible on the horizon. Though, unlike most days, it didn't seem to make her all that comfortable. A strange dream. And... she wasn't the only one who bore witness to it.
Part 2
...And she was not the only one. A strange fate occurred. There were other women who had the strange dream as well. Nodoka Hanadera (*1). Laura (*2). Amane Kasai (*3). Mashiro Nijigaoka (*4). Ayumi Sakagami. Riko Izayoi (*5). Haruno Haruka (*6). Yukari Kotozume (*7). Yuri Tsukikage (*8). Madoka Kaguya (*9). Hikari Kujou (*10).
The strangest part was not because they all had the same dream, but...
"Wait, what are you all doing here?" They all pointed at each other.
"But... wait... how come we're having the same dream?" Haruno sported a confused look.
Yuri looked around and sported a look of concern. The place seem to be a blanket white void. There's barely anything here. Just... a place? "...I don't sense much of anything here," She muttered softly, before looking back at the crowd. "Ne, girls? What exactly do you recall before all of us gathered here?"
The Cures all begin to think carefully for a bit, before... "Ah! George?!" They all muttered. And then... "Eh?" They all looked at each other, with surprise and bewilderment.
"Hold on, wait?" Mashiro muttered, looking at her fellow Cures. "How come we all said the same name for the same person? Are we talking George as in, well..." She looked meaningfully at Hana. "The one that opposed Hana-chan and her team, or the one we... know... hold on," Mashiro's face scrunched up, as a subtle dread washed over her. "...Wait, how come I can only recall George just now?"
"...So do I," Nodoka muttered, shaking her head. "Something is very wrong here. I... I can't explain it."
"That... makes three of us... or more..." Madoka looks at the rest of the Cures, who had similar expressions.
Could they... Could they have been seeing the same person in this shared dream and somehow knew exactly who they were all referring too? They were clearly not talking about the George Kurai who was the leader of the Criasu Corporation (*11) from an alternate future timeline. The strangest part was... they seem to have memories of a George Kurai, but... he looked younger than the one they knew, especially those who had fought Criasu.
Something felt off. Their memories were clearly real, at least it seemed like it. They... briefly viewed those memories before eventually reuniting together as one.
"...Something made us all come together," Yukari spoke softly, narrowing her eyes with arms crossed.
"How do you guess?" Madoka asked.
"Considering the usual pattern of crises events that Cures such as ourselves tend to deal with, it's a given that something or someone had called for us specifically here," Yuri concluded, having the same pattern of thought as Yukari.
"But... why...?" Riko muttered, concerned.
...And then.
"...?!"
The Cures would notice something strange that happened in the blank white void. It seems to be changing color to one of variety. Eventually, they found themselves in... some kind of strange memorial. And their eyes found themselves looking at a familiar face. The same young man. George Kurai. But his attire was different.
"...George?" Hana muttered softly. But the young man didn't hear him. She even tried to touch his garment, but it seem like it just flew right pass him. She couldn't touch him. "...But why?" She asked herself, looking at her right hand.
"He doesn't seem to hear us," Yuri muttered, putting her comforting hand to Hana's shoulder. "This may still be a part of the dream."
His clothes look more regal, formal, and imposing. A golden crown covered his head. A crimson cape draped around his back, which blew from the softer winds. From the horizon was what looked to be the sunrise slowly coming forth, allowing his body's shadow to attain visibility. Crimson robes amidst a black formal attire. His eyes looked weary, tired, and contemplative as it gazes at a silver statue. It was a young adult woman, and from her face, she seem very beautiful.
"...Grk!" The Cures gritted their teeth as something was coming up from the forefront of their minds.
A young adult woman, with a beautiful oval-shaped face, smiling sweetly. Her eyes were gold and her hair was emerald. Her hair was flowing down across her back, with two-tied long twin tails, and the center formed a tied-up crown. A golden tiara with a light blue winged décor. White glove hands and long white socks with top circle designs which accompanied her green shoes. On the back of her green skirt were a pair of light blue dove wings, and her shoulders had light blue covers.
"...George," The woman smiled at him.
...Then the memory vanished.
"...What was that?" Riko spoke softly as new information poured out of from her mind. She looked at the silver statue that resembled the flashing image of the beautiful woman. Below, one could see an inscription.
Guinevere Morgan le Fay. Cure Grail. High Queen of Camelotgard.
19XX - 2028
"Guinevere... Morgan le Fay?" Yuri sported an interested, yet surprised look. "Hold on, that name...?"
"You noticed it too?" Yukari said as she had a similar look, along with Amane, Madoka, and Haruka who were also checking the inscription with varying levels of interest.
"What's with you four? Do you all recognize the name?" Nodoka asked, stating the same question the other Cures are harboring in their thoughts.
"Yes, in a sense, though this name should be separate, because it has two individuals' names conjoined into one. Guinevere and Morgan le Fay. Guinevere is basically the name of the wife of King Arthur of the kingdom of Camelot," Yuri explained.
"Eh," Amane affirmed as she continued the explanation. "And according to legend, there are two common elements and variations of her character that have been portrayed consistently in over 700 years. Either she is a fatally flawed, villainous, and opportunistic traitor, or a noble and virtuous lady. Regardless, she was essentially a central key character in a tragic love affair between herself and her husband's chief knight and trusted friend, Lancelot, which inadvertently caused the downfall of the kingdom and the death of its' king."
"Yikes, that's a bit too grim for my tastes..." Laura spoke with a twitch, before turning into a thoughtful expression, putting her hand to her chin. "But what about Morgan le Fay?"
"Well, she is generally considered to be a powerful enchantress and the greatest enemy of the king. She has many variations in her backstory. A goddess? A fay? A witch? All of those and more, but nevertheless, the consistent portrayal about her is that she is opposed to the king," Yukari explained.
"...If they are two separate people, then how come they are both conjoined together?" Ayumi asked, showing a perturbed look. "And... Cure Grail? Does that mean she's a PreCure like us?"
"...Now that you mention it," Yukari said, looking at the inscription. "It does seem that way..." She, and the others, look back at the young George who was still looking solemnly at the statue. "...But what does that have to do with George?"
"...And more to the point," Madoka said, sharing her own concern. "Does this relate with how we all seem to remember him?"
"...Yea, that's rather strange?" Amane sported a confused look. "I... I don't actually recall meeting George before."
"And then... there's the fact that we somehow know that he's the younger self of Hana-chan's teams' enemy," Yukari looked at Hana, who looked troubled. "Do you think this dream is somewhat sharing information to us unconsciously?"
"If it is, then this is quite a strange dream indeed," Madoka said with a nod.
"Which leads back to who is making us see all of this," Yuri expressed.
"...That would be me, actually."
"...?!"
They all turned around to find... (*12) a young beautiful woman in her 20s, with black long hair and brown eyes. She wore a light-orange colored shirt with a light pink cardigan on top. She wears a pair of peach-colored jeans that reaches down to about her shin bone with a brown belt and a pair of yellow-colored heels. On her neck was a silver star necklace. Her mouth had a kind yet maternal and sweet smile.
The Cures blinked repeatedly. They never expected someone so... ordinary? Yet, for some such as Yuri, Yukari, Madoka, and Amane they felt something off even if they never sense any hostile intent but instead a calming certitude, hence they were a little cautious.
"...Who are you?" Yukari asked.
"...My name is Mistress Love (*13)," She stated with a smile, her eyes looking towards Hikari, who looked shocked at seeing her. "And, I do believe that Hikari-chan would know who I truly am."
"...You," Hikari muttered, making the other Cures notice. "...The Queen of Light (*14)?"
"Wait? The Queen of Light? As in, the ruler of the Garden of Light, and the one who gave Nagisa-senpai and Honoka-senpai their powers?" Ayumi asked, being well-versed in PreCure History. Since her time as Cure Echo, it was her chosen task to take note of the various PreCure teams and observe them, mostly from afar, and record their exploits and origins.
"In a sense, you can say that I am," Mistress Love explained softly, as she walked towards Hikari. The latter didn't feel afraid when she drew near, but she was at awe at what she was seeing. Only Hikari seem to be able to see what lay underneath the woman's normal appearance. The woman in turn patted Hikari's head gently. "You can say that the Queen of Light is in a sense an avatar of sorts for me to do my work as a being of the cosmos, and thus, in one sense, Hikari can be considered to be my daughter."
"Eh?" The Cures looked surprised.
"Wait? Wait? Wait? So, you're Hikari-senpai's okaa-san, is what I'm understanding here?" Nodoka asked.
"Yes," Mistress Love spoke cheerfully as she continued to pat Hikari's hair. "And you've quite grown into a wonderful young woman, I must say." But her face turns sad as she turns towards the young kingly figure who was still looking at the statue. "But now, you must all understand why I brought you all here. For instance, that relates to him, first and foremost."
"...George Kurai you mean," Yuri looked at George, then back at the woman.
"Yes..." Mistress Love's expression turns solemn. "Though I knew and call him personally as Saint George Artorius the Dragon Slayer."
"Eh?!" That was news to the Cures. Dragon Slayer?
"...Tell me, Mashiro-san," The woman looks at Mashiro. "Do you recall that old picture book where you used to illustrate a children story that you entitled as The Once Happy But Sad Child Who Became The Red Cross Knight Who Saved The World And Became King?"
Mashiro looked surprised. "Ye...Yes," She nodded. "But wait, how does that..." Then she suddenly seem to realize, no doubt because of inspirations from Mistress Love. "Wait, you don't mean-"
"Yes, The Child Who Became King in that story is in fact George Artorius, one reflection and shadow of his own adventures which are numerous to be told," Mistress Love nodded. "And... he needs you now, all of you, all of the PreCure, and thus, I chose you all specifically as my own personal tidings to the young Saint-King."
"But... why?" Hana asked, looking troubled.
"Because..." Mistress Love solemnly pronounced. "This also concerns you as well. You have been kept in the dark for long enough. The time has now come for all of you to step in and foresee the conflicts that lie ahead, ones that Artorius had kept from you for understandable reasons."
"Kept? Conflicts?" Amane looked troubled. "I'm... I'm sorry, but I don't think I follow, umm, my lady..."
Mistress Love smiled sadly. "...Oh, but you will, Amane-san...You will." After giving Yui a meaningful look, she turns towards Yuri. "Oh, and, give my regards to your mentor, Hanasaki Kaoruko." Yuri and the others noted the name with attentiveness. "If you want more answers from her, I'd recommend her aid for inquiry."
"Why her?" Yukari asked. "Why not tell us yourself, if you know so much?"
"...That, is something I do not think I have the right too," Mistress Love answered as she looks at George. The Cures follow her gaze, as they all see George looked at the statue with resolve.
"...I promise," George muttered softly. "I promise to keep our people safe...onee-chan."
That... surprised Hana and the others. Onee-chan? George had a sister. And said sister was...
"...And," Yuri pointed at the inscription. "What about this Cure Grail? Judging by her name, she's clearly one of us," She looks at the statue with a new inquiring sense of contemplation.
"...Yes," Mistress Love's voice carried the attention of the Cures, especially with the revelation the former gives to the latter. "Saint Guinevere Morgan le Fay, the Last of the le Fay noble household and bloodline, High Queen of Camelotgard, and...George's late adoptive older sister." It took a moment or two to realize to their feelings of subtle horror and empathy. Late? That meant that the woman in the statue is dead. And what they were standing on is not just a memorial, but a grave. "Now, she has a higher calling, much greater than what she had in life. To be your Goddess of Light and Hope for all of the Cures, that includes you."
"...What happened to her?" Hana asked.
Mistress Love however remained silent this time, only opting to look at the young man who was kneeling down with his breast out of his respect, ask for her blessing: "Stay with me, always, my Queen." He says before standing up slowly and taking his leave, walking towards the west where one can see... a large castle, amidst forests of trees. All as the sun rises...
...And then, the dream ended.
Letting all of the women awaken from their slumber in their various respective places.
A cold dark hallway...
It was cold not just because of the cooling system that covered much of the facility. But it was because there was someone walking undeterred. A man with a green and yellow bodysuit and armor, with a silver-rounded visor and two small antennae, with two yellow skull-tentacled symbols found on the shoulders, walked forward with quick-paced steps. He had a message worth delivering to a superior officer.
He passed through several who share the same general uniforms and head towards the lookout where there was someone waiting there, with hands behind one's back. The man would stop as he saluted with his right hand raised to his eyebrow.
"Sword Saint-Commander, the Omicron Riders are all ready to deploy, awaiting your orders."
The man he was talking too had pale blue skin. He looked younger, though his eyes begged to differ. Darker green hair, a pair of reddish horns, and a scorpion-like tail. He wore a simple medical doctor's attire and coat, whose shoulders had the same skull-tentacled symbol, only in crimson color, with black boots with grey accents.
"Very good, Sergeant."
He would reply with a formal tone. His eyes revealed an olive color that sparked a pale red and emerald lightning that threatened to glow into a shade of red, and would speak with a calm yet cold and subtle tone. He grabs something from his pocket that revealed a clock face, with an emerald visor, red accented face with a silver antennae, and two sets of clock hands. The words, or the year: "1987".
"...Hmph, and to think, it's about time we meet again...PreCure."
He would look overlook the hall that sees the various troopers in armor, carrying the same yellow skull-tentacled symbol, that marched in formation, with rifles placed to their right side.
"...Hail Hydra," The man muttered as he placed one of his hands to the metal bar, as his voice echoed softly, allowing everyone to hear.
Everyone stopped what they were doing. The officer behind him and all of the rest exclaims in turn, as they raised their arms together.
"HAIL HYDRA~!"
Part 3
...And somewhere, there was Takumi Shinada (*1), who woke up as if from a terrible nightmare.
"...Grk," He gritted his teeth as he placed his head to his sweated brow, as he tried to gasp for breath.
It... It was only just a dream...
Everything's... Everything's fine...
...Or so he tries to believe.
But his actions as The Winter Cape continued to still haunt him.
He could feel his hands... covered with innocent blood of various magical girls... and the sins that never die..
