Chapter 1

My name is Hilbert, and I come from the peaceful little town of Nuvema. Life here is simple, but it has always been filled with wonder and the promise of adventure. I have a twin sister named Hilda, who is as ambitious as she is kind. Thanks to our parents' guidance, she runs the BW Agency, a company renowned for its Pokémon actors. From commercials and plays to movies and daring stunts, their Pokémon bring stories to life, capturing the hearts of audiences everywhere.

Today is an important day for us—Cheren, one of our closest friends, is coming over because it's the day we finally get our starter Pokémon. For most, this marks the beginning of their journey as Trainers, but I already have two trusted companions. Munna, a dream-eater Pokémon, has been with me for as long as I can remember. She seems drawn to me, perhaps because I dream big and often. Then there's Braviary, a majestic bird who began as a lost and hungry Rowlet. I found him during a storm, gave him food, and helped him grow strong. Now, he soars proudly at my side.

As the morning sunlight streams through the windows, Cheren finally arrives. His sharp glasses and serious demeanor make him seem older than us, but he has a spark of excitement in his eyes.

"Hilda, Cheren's here!" I call out, opening the door for him.

Hilda steps into the room, her usual energy lighting up the space. "Cheren, you're finally here," she says with a grin.

Cheren adjusts his glasses, his tone inquisitive as always. "I made it just in time. So, where are the Pokémon?" he asks, his eyes scanning the room with growing anticipation.

"They're on the table," Hilda replies, gesturing toward the sleek wooden table where three Poké Balls are neatly arranged. Each one holds the promise of a partner and a lifetime of adventures. She turns to me and adds with a smile, "And Hilbert gets the first pick."

I smile, anticipation bubbling inside me as I open the box. With a flick of my wrist, I release the three Pokémon from their Poké Balls. In an instant, the room is filled with life as Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott appear before us. Their small forms shimmer in the morning light, and for a moment, everything seems perfect.

But the calm doesn't last.

To our shock, Snivy and Oshawott lock eyes and immediately begin bickering. Their chirps and squeaks escalate, and within seconds, they're lunging at each other, flailing and tackling with surprising ferocity.

"What the—? Wait, what's going on?!" Hilda exclaims, rushing forward with a look of panic on her face.

Cheren crosses his arms, trying to maintain his usual calm but clearly rattled. "Hey! Even if they're still weak Pokémon, they shouldn't be battling like this inside a house!" he says, though his stern tone does little to quell the chaos.

"Stop it, you two!" I shout, stepping forward to intervene. I stretch out my hands in an attempt to separate them, but the determined Pokémon dodge around me, their fight spilling across the room. The table wobbles as they crash into it, and Munna flutters nervously beside me, unsure how to help.

Hilda's face twists into a mix of frustration and dismay as she watches the scene unfold. "No! Our room! Look at this mess!" she wails, throwing her hands up in despair. Papers and books scatter across the floor, a vase tips over, and one of the chairs teeters dangerously close to breaking.

Just when it seems like things couldn't get worse, Tepig decides he's had enough. With a determined snort, the little Fire Pig Pokémon charges forward, slamming into both Snivy and Oshawott with a powerful Tackle. The sudden impact sends them sprawling, their fight abruptly halted.

The room falls into an awkward silence as the three Pokémon sit there, stunned. I exchange glances with Hilda and Cheren, and it's clear we've all reached the same conclusion—there's no way we're letting this chaos continue.

"Alright," I say, stepping forward to pick up the dazed Oshawott. The little Water-type blinks at me with wide eyes, his earlier aggression replaced by confusion. "You're coming with me."

Hilda scoops up Tepig, cradling him like a hero who just saved the day. "Looks like you've earned your spot with me," she says, giving him a warm smile.

Cheren adjusts his glasses and picks up Snivy, who looks a little huffy but otherwise unbothered. "Guess that leaves you and me," Cheren says to the Grass-type, his tone resigned but not unkind.

With our choices made and the Pokémon finally calmed down, I glance around the room. It's a disaster, with overturned furniture and scattered belongings everywhere. "Well," I say with a nervous laugh, "this day definitely started off with a bang."

Hilda sighs, shaking her head. "And a mess. Guess we'll be cleaning this up for a while."

Cheren smirks faintly. "Or we could just say it's part of the adventure."

We took some time cleaning up the footprints and the mess left by the Pokémon battle. Thankfully, our parents weren't home, so we didn't have to worry about explaining the chaos. Once the room looked decent again, we decided it was time to meet Professor Juniper and officially begin our journey.

As we prepared to leave, Oshawott suddenly squirmed out of my arms and darted toward the door. "Oshawott! Where are you going?" I yelled, rushing after him.

Hilda called out from behind me, "Hilbert! Don't let it get too far!"

Chasing Oshawott through the quiet streets of Nuvema Town, I eventually found him clinging to a low branch on a tree. He looked upset, his little body trembling as he stared down at the ground. I slowed my pace and called up to him gently. "You're sad, aren't you?" I said, my voice soft. "You think those two ganged up on you back there. It frustrated you, and now you've run away to be alone. But don't worry—you're not alone anymore."

Oshawott looked down at me, his eyes wide and glistening. I smiled and added, "Because I like you. My name is Hilbert, and it's a pleasure to meet you. I promise we're going to be great partners."

Touched by my words, Oshawott started climbing down the tree to return to me. But just as he reached a lower branch, sticky white threads shot through the air, pinning him in place. "Oshawott!" I yelled, panic rising in my chest.

"Hilbert!" Hilda shouted from nearby, running to catch up. "Something's attacking us!"

I scanned the tree, trying to find the source of the attack, but my thoughts raced, clouding my focus. Sometimes I tend to overthink things, and right now, it wasn't helping. Desperate for clarity, I called out, "Munna, help me out!"

Munna floated down beside me, responding to my plea in her unique way. She latched onto my head and used her psychic abilities to clear my mind, leaving me calm and focused. As the haze lifted, I spotted a small silhouette moving in the leaves. "There!" I shouted, pointing toward the canopy.

"Braviary, your turn!" I called, and my loyal Flying-type swooped into action. With a powerful beat of his wings, he charged into the branches, forcing the attacker into the open. A Sewaddle tumbled down, landing on the grass with a startled chirp.

"A Sewaddle…" Hilda murmured, observing the little Bug and Grass-type. Her sharp eyes quickly pieced things together. "It was collecting leaves from the tree. It must have thought Oshawott was invading its territory!"

The Sewaddle hissed, clearly still agitated, and I knew I had to act quickly. "Oshawott, use Razor Shell!" I commanded.

Oshawott, still pinned but determined, managed to slash through the String Shot holding him. With a flash of his shell, he struck Sewaddle, sending the small Pokémon scurrying back into the underbrush. The attack may not have been very effective, but it was enough to defend himself and chase the Sewaddle away.

As the tension eased, I approached Oshawott, carefully lifting him into my arms. "You were amazing back there," I said, giving him an encouraging smile. He looked up at me with a proud gleam in his eye, clearly reassured.

Hilda sighed in relief, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "That was close. We've really got to keep an eye on these Pokémon. They're full of surprises."

I nodded, glancing at my sister and Cheren, who had just caught up. "Yeah, but surprises make life interesting, don't they?"

I smiled, looking down at Oshawott, who now seemed to trust me completely. "Great, now you're one of us. Alright, here we go."

Before either Hilda or Cheren could respond, I suddenly cupped my hands around my mouth, drawing in a deep breath. Instantly, they exchanged knowing looks and scrambled to cover their ears.

"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I yelled, my voice echoing across the quiet streets of Nuvema Town. Oshawott flinched in my arms but quickly perked up, seemingly feeding off my energy. I spun in place, grinning like a fool. "I will go to the Pokémon League and win it! Really, I'll win it, win it, win it! The Unova League! And also the Elite Four! Ready or not, here I come!"

Hilda groaned, shaking her head as she uncovered her ears. "Hilbert, you're so loud! Do you want the whole town to hear you?"

Cheren adjusted his glasses, trying to keep his usual calm demeanor but failing to hide a smirk. "Honestly, at this rate, even the Pokémon League itself probably heard that."

I grinned at both of them, unbothered. "Good! They should know I'm coming."

With everything settled, the three of us headed straight to Professor Juniper's Lab. The building was a mix of modern architecture and homey charm, a place that felt both scientific and welcoming. As we stepped inside, we were immediately greeted by the cheerful voice of the professor herself.

"Hi there! I've been waiting for you young people!" she said with an energetic wave. "Let me introduce myself again. My name is—"

"Professor Juniper? We know your name," Cheren interrupted, his tone polite but firm.

Juniper chuckled, shaking her head. "Come, come, Cheren! This is not the time to take things lightly. Today is a day to remember always, so it's best to behave with some formality. That being so, once again, my name is Professor Juniper, and I am researching when and how the creatures called Pokémon came into existence."

Her enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself grinning as she spoke. Then, her eyes landed on our Pokémon, her expression shifting to one of curiosity. "Oh, that's unusual! You've already had a Pokémon battle! So maybe that's why... it feels as though your Pokémon have already begun to trust you!"

She paused, smiling warmly at each of us. "By the way, would you like to give your Pokémon a nickname?"

Without hesitation, I nodded. "Yeah, I'll name mine Wott."

Hilda held her Tepig close, her face lighting up. "I'll name mine Gigi."

Cheren, on the other hand, simply adjusted his glasses and shook his head. "No nickname for Snivy. I like the name as it is."

Professor Juniper clapped her hands together. "Wonderful choices! Now then, as for why I gave all of you Pokémon..."

"It's for the Pokédex, right?" I asked, cutting to the chase.

Juniper blinked in surprise before laughing. "I am astonished. Nice work, Hilbert! You've already studied Pokémon extensively, haven't you? Still, let me explain everything from the beginning, for everyone's sake."

She pulled out a sleek device and held it up for us to see. "The Pokédex is a high-tech device that automatically records the Pokémon you encounter! So, I want you three to visit many places and meet all of the Pokémon in the Unova region. This is my request: Hilbert! Cheren! Hilda! Will you go on an adventure to complete the Pokédex?"

Hilda was the first to respond, her voice brimming with excitement. "Of course!"

Cheren nodded, his usual reserved demeanor softening. "Thank you very much. Because of you, I can become a Pokémon Trainer, exactly as I've always wanted."

Juniper beamed at us. "Thank you, all of you! You've given me the best possible answer!" With a tap on her Rotom phone, she sent the Pokédex app to our devices. A small notification popped up on my screen, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.

"Next," Juniper continued, "I need to teach you how to meet Pokémon. Please meet me at Route 1, okay?"

Without waiting for a response, she waved goodbye and headed out the door. As it swung shut behind her, the three of us exchanged looks.

"Well," I said, "looks like we're officially starting our journey."

Hilda grinned, adjusting her bag. "Let's not keep her waiting!"

Cheren pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, a determined look on his face. "Then let's go."

With our Pokémon by our sides and our Rotom phones equipped with the Pokédex, we left the lab and set off toward Route 1, ready to take our first steps into the wider world.
