Flames licked at Ashlynn's face, the fire burned her skin, and greedily consumed all of the oxygen in the room.
The neon yellow color of the fire almost warned others not to touch it. Like how a poisonous organism warns a predator to stay away.
But Ashlynn was not the predator, she was the prey.
Ashlynn felt the predators watching them.
Judging them.
Seeing what the three of them would do next.
"ALEX! KEEFE!" She yelled and then she started to cough and wheeze.
The fire smelled like burnt sugar, it made her eyes well up as she collapsed onto the ground.
Ashlynn reached her arms up and tried to call the wind.
It reached towards her trying to sweep up the flames, but to no avail.
It retreated and tried again.
And again.
And again.
Ashlynn lowered her arm, she couldn't even feel the sweat on her skin.
Someone called her name, she couldn't tell who.
She needed to get to Alex.
She needed to get to Keefe.
Ashlynn's head spun with the sirens that sounded like they were right in her ear.
Her throat burned with each breath.
The smoke was making breathing difficult.
Her vision was getting darker.
NO!
NO!
NO!
She was not going to give in.
She was not going to let the darkness take her.
Nobody was going to take her down.
She was going to fight.
And nobody was going to stand in her way.
