Chapter 1 Destiny's Call:

The massive monster loomed over him. It's glowing yellow eyes fixated on him. The weapon that he had once held vanished. The boy leapt backwards to avoid a massive fist colliding with the ground. The shockwave knocked him prone as he looked up the towering creature in fear. The ground beneath him transformed into an inky blackness that began to consume him. He tried to call out, but no sound came from his throat.

"But don't be afraid," The voice that guided him throughout the dream rang out. "You hold the mightiest weapon of them all." The boy turned on his back as the darkness engulfed his vision. "So don't forget, you are the one who will open the door."

Sora opened his eyes as he sat up. The sand underneath him shifting away as he took in the sea. Letting out a yawn he leaned back, only to jump back up with a cry. He turned to look at the girl who leaned over him. She giggled. "Gimme a break Kairi." Sora muttered.

"Sora, you lazy bum." Kairi said. "I knew that I'd find you snoozing down here."

"No! This huge, black…thing swallowed me up!" Sora protested. "I couldn't breath I couldn't- ow!" Kairi knocked on his head and Sora rubbed it.

"Are you still dreaming?" Kairi asked him.

"It wasn't a dream! Or…was it…so bizarre…"

"Yeah sure."

"Hey Kairi, what was your hometown like? You know, where you grew up."

"I've told you before, I don't remember."

"Nothing at all?"

"Nothing."

"You ever want to go back?"

Kairi hummed, "Well…I'm happy here. But you know, I wouldn't mind going to see it. That way I at least know where I came from." She said turning towards him.

"I'd like to see it too, along with any other worlds out there. I want to see them all!" Sora said excitedly.

"So, what are we waiting for?"

"Hey!" A voice called out. "aren't you guys forgetting about me? So, I guess I'm the only one working on the raft." Riku tossed the log at Sora who fumbled to catch it. "And your just as lazy as he is." He told Kairi accusingly.

"So you noticed." She giggled. "Okay, we'll finish it together. I'll race you."

"Huh?"

"What are you kidding."

"Ready, GO!"

Sora and Riku immediately jumped to their feet and took off down the beach. The laughter of the children rang out across the island.

After a long day of the trio constructing their wooden raft, the three sat on a tree and watched the sunset over the sea. Sora was nursing several bruises. He had challenged Riku to a duel with their wooden swords, and lost, badly.

"So, Kairi's home is out there somewhere, right?" Sora said.

"Could be. We'll never know by staying here." Riku said with determination.

"But how far could a raft take us?" Sora questioned. "I've heard from my parents that the stars have been off for years now."

"Who knows? If we have to, we'll think of something else."

"So," Kairi interjected, "suppose you do get to another world. What would you do there?"

"Well, I haven't really thought about it." Riku admitted. "It's just, I've always wondered why we're here on this island. If there are any other worlds out there, why did we end up on this one? And suppose there are other worlds, then ours is just a tiny little piece of something much greater. So we could have just as easily ended up somewhere else, right."

"I don't know." Sora said turning over.

"Exactly. That's why we need to go out there and find out. Just sitting here won't change a thing. It's the same old stuff. So let's go."

"You've been thinking a lot lately, haven't you?" Kairi asked.

"All thanks to you. If you hadn't shown up here, I probably would've never thought of any of this. So, Kairi, thanks."

"You're welcome."

As they got up to leave Riku called out to Sora. Sora turned to catch the fruit that Riku had thrown at him. "A paopu fruit?" He asked.

"You wanted one didn't you? If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. Come on, I know you want to try it." He said teasingly.

Sora turned beat red, "What are talk-" only to be interrupted by Riku's laughter as he took off. Sora tossed the fruit aside and chased after his friend.

Donald walked through the halls of Disney Castle. He passed by several walking brooms as he made his way towards the audience chamber. He stopped at the large doors and paused to clear his throat. Knocking three times, he opened the smaller door and entered the hall.

"Good morning your majesty." He called out keeping his head bowed. "It's nice to see this morn- What!" He stared at the empty throne is shock as Pluto peeked his head out. Donald took the letter from Pluto's mouth and began to scan it's contents. He blinked several times at the implications and took off screaming.

Rushing into the gardens, he stumbled across a sleeping Goofy. "Wake up Goofy! Wake up! This is a serious problem!"

Goofy let out a loud snore and turned away from Donald. "Thunder!" Donald shouted, jolting Goofy awake.

"Yeow!" Goofy rubbed his eyes. "Hey there, Donald. G'morning."

"We've got a problem, Goofy! But don't tell anyone…"

Goofy paused to look past Donald. "Queen Minnie?"

"Not even the Queen!"

"Daisy?

"No! It's top secret." Donald said in a hushed voice.

"Uh G'morning ladies." Goofy said.

Donald slowly turned around to see the aforementioned ladies looking at him expectantly. He let out a nervous laugh as he realized the trouble that was coming his way.

The next day, Sora entered the cove to find Riku waiting for him. "Hey, Sora. Our raft still needs a name. Let's see…how about Highwind?"

"Well, what about…Excalibur. You know, after the sword?"

Riku let out a hum. "How about we settle this debate with…"

"The usual?"

"Let's do it." Riku said with a grin.

"Are you two at it again?" Kairi called out. "I'll be the judge. You know the rules, first one back here after reaching the end of the cove wins."

"If I win…uh, I get to be captain and if you win…"

"I get to share the paopu with Kairi."

"What?" Sora asked, completely thrown off.

"Deal? The winner gets to share a paopu with Kairi."

"Hey wait a min-" Sora started.

"Okay, on my count." Kairi said reaching them. "3, 2, 1, Go!"

Sora blitzed through the scenery and barely made it back before Riku did. "Now…this weeks score is…1-1." He said between breaths.

"Man calm down, it's just a name after all." Riku said behind him. Sora turned and gave a small glare as Kairi walked away. "What that thing with paopu? It was just a joke to rile you up, you should have seen your face." Riku said laughing.

"Whatever, I'm going to see what supplies we still need."

Sora stepped into the secret place and looked at all the drawings he and Riku made over the years. He walked to a corner and placed his hand over the spot where he and Kairi drew each other when they were kids. He smiled at the memories and picked up a piece of stone and scratched away at the rocky surface.

When he finished, he leaned back and smiled. An arm extended from his face and offered a paopu to Kairi's. He picked several mushrooms and turned to leave when he saw someone in the corner. "Wha- Who's there?"

"I've come to see the door to this world."

"Huh?" Sora questioned, his arms shaking.

"This world has been connected. Tied to the darkness, and soon to be completely eclipsed."

"Well, whoever you are, stop freaking me out like this!" Sora then realized he didn't recognize the figure in a brown robe. "Wh- where did you come from?"

"You do not yet know what lies beyond the door."

"So, you're from another world!" Sora breathed out.

"There is so very much to learn. You understand so little."

"Oh, yeah? Well, you'll see. I'm going to get out and learn what's out there!"

"A meaningless effort. One who knows nothing can understand nothing. You remind me of another. And like him, you will drown in the oncoming darkness." The man disappeared into the shadows as Sora remembered his dream.

"Just- who was that guy?" Sora asked still shaking. He quickly gathered the remaining mushrooms and took off.

He was breathing heavily when he reached Kairi. "What's that?" He asked seeing her working on something.

"This?" She asked holding up an incomplete charm. "I'm making a necklace of thalassa shells. In the old days, sailors always wore thalassa shells. They are to ensure a safe voyage since we may be unable to rely on the old star maps Riku has. This will help us find each other if we ever get separated. The three of us will always be together."

"Well, here is the rest of the mushrooms. Ready to call it a day?"

"Sure." Kairi said putting the charm away. Orange rays of sunlight were already starting to stream over the water. "You know, Riku has changed."

"What do you mean?" Sora asked sitting next to her.

"Well…"

"You okay?" Sora asked with worry.

"Sora, let's just take the raft and go! Just the two of us!"

"Huh?" Sora questioned. Caught off guard by the sudden outburst.

"Just kidding." Kairi giggled. "I know how much this means to him. I wouldn't dream of leaving him out."

"What's gotten into you? You're the one that's changed, Kairi."

"Maybe…you know, I was a little afraid at first, but now I'm ready. No matter where I go or what I see, I know that I will always be able to come back here. Right?"

"Yeah, of course!"

"That's good." Kairi stood up from the sand. "Sora, don't ever change." She turned towards the sun. "I just can't wait. Once we set sail, it'll be great."

Donald, sorry to rush off without sayin' goodbye, but there's big trouble brewin'. We don't know why, but according to Master Yen Sid, stars, worlds, have been disappearing one by one for the past nine years, and that means that disaster is imminent. I hate to leave you all, but I have to check into it.

I don't know who you'll find, but there will be someone out there with a key. The key to our survival. So I need you and Goofy to find them and stick with them. Got it? We need to find that key of we're doomed. So go to the world Traverse Town and find an elusive man known as "The Seeker." He may be able to point you in the right direction. If ya can't find em, another man named Leon will be able to do the same.

P.S. Would you apologize to Minnie for me? Thanks, pal. - Mickey

In the library of Disney Castle, the four finished ready the letter from Mickey. "Oh dear. What could this mean?" Daisy questioned.

"It means…we'll just have to trust the king." Minnie said with sadness in her voice.

"Gawrsh, I sure hope that he's all right." Goofy muttered.

"Your Highness. Don't worry, we'll find the king and one of these keys."

"Thank you, both of you." Minnie said with gratitude in her eyes.

"Daisy, can you take care of-"

"Of course." She said interrupting him. "You be careful now, and come back in one piece."

"Oh, and to chronicle your travels, he will accompany you." Minnie gestured to the desk as Donald squinted his eyes.

"Over here." A well-dressed cricket said jumping up and down to get their attention. He took off his hat and bowed. "Cricket's the name. Jiminy Cricket, at your service."

"We hope for your safe return. Please help the king." Minnie pleaded. Next to her Goofy gave a salute to Donald.

"You're coming too!" Donald shouted yanking him out the room.

"Gawrsh, Jiminy, your world disappeared too?" Goofy asked as they made their way to the hanger.

"It was terrible, we were scattered, and as far as I can tell, I'm the only one who made it to this castle."

"Goofy, remember the world order."

"Right. I gotcha. While we're in other worlds, we can't let on where we're from. We've gotta do our part to protect the world border."

"Order." Donald corrected.

"Right, world order. I guess we'll need new duds when we get there." The doors in front of them hissed open as they entered the hanger.

Donald walked up to one of the megaphones and called into it. "Hello up there? Donald Duck to launch crew? Anytime you're ready."

Chip and Dale saluted the speaker and ran to various levers to prepare the ship. Pluto bounded over and jumped on board. Donald settled into the cockpit and grabbed the controls. The engines flared up as the gummi ship rumbled. "Blast off!" He shouted.

The floor beneath them opened up and the gummi ship plummeted down the launch shaft. Donald and Goofy screamed as they fell and Jiminy hung on for dear life. They entered space and Donald quickly realigned the ship.

"Next stop. Traverse Town." He said. The gummi ship raced off into the cosmos.
