Chapter 2 Night of Fate:

Sora laid on his bed, his gaze fixed to the celling. Kairi's words echoed in his mind. "I just can't wait, once we set sail. It'll be great." A rumble of thunder echoed out causing Sora to jolt up.

"A storm? Oh no! The raft!" Sora jumped up from his bed and ran out towards the beach. In his desperate rush towards the boats, he barely noticed his mother's voice calling him to dinner. It would be the last time he saw his mother in a very long time.

Sora leapt onto the dock. A swirling mass of black hung in the air above the island. "What is that?" He wondered. "Riku's boat, and Kairi's! Are they here too?" The shadows around his lengthened and small black creatures emerged. Sora's eyes widened in shock as he recognized them from his dream. Their glowing yellow eyes fixed on him as they approached.

Sora stumbled back and ran away towards the shack, almost tripping over himself in the process. The creatures crept towards him as he scrambled down the beach. He made it to the shed and slammed the door shut. He leaned against it and let out several breaths. "This is a dream…" he muttered to himself, "They can't be real." The shadows at the bottom of the door darkened and a pair of yellow eyes emerged from the ground.

Sora ran up the stairs and exited at the bridge. He noticed Riku standing by the paopu tree and ran to him. "Riku!" He shouted. "Where's Kairi? I thought she would be with you!"

Riku only stared at the sky. "The door…has opened."

"What?"

"The door has opened Sora." Riku turned to Sora. "Now we can go to the outside world."

"What are you talking about? We've gotta find Kairi!"

"Kairi's coming with us. That was the agreement." Sora recoiled in shock and Riku continued. "Once we step through, we might not be able to come back. We may never see our parents again. There's no turning back. But this may be our only chance. We can't let fear stop us. I'm not afraid of the darkness!"

"Riku…" Sora muttered. A pool of inky black formed around Riku.

"Come with me." Riku said holding out his hand. Sora rushed forward attempting to grab Riku's hand, but the darkness kept them apart. A bright light shined forcing Sora to close his eyes. When he opened them, Riku was gone, and in his hand was a massive key.

"Keyblade..." The voice from his dreams echoed around him. Sora clenched the Keyblade tighter as he turned to see the Shadows surrounding him. One leapt at him and Sora instinctively raised the Keyblade to intercept it. The Shadow was sliced in half by the Keyblade and it dispersed into darkness. Sora looked at the Keyblade in amazement and readied himself to face the other Shadows.

The Keyblade felt light in his hands as he swung it around. The Shadows recoiling as they were struck. More than a few Shadows fell as Sora fought his way to the only place he could think of.

Sora reached the secret place and crawled into the cave. He sprinted to the end of it and saw Kairi standing there. "Kairi!" He shouted.

She turned to him with almost a dream like stare. "Sora…" The door behind her flew open as a tidal wave of darkness flowed out. She flew towards Sora who tried to catch her. Kairi vanished in his arms before he was blown out of the cave as well.

Sora landed with a thud in the sand. The wind blew around him as he took in his surroundings. He gasped as he noticed he was on a floating chunk of land; the rest of the islands were nowhere to be seen. The swirling mass of black had grown to a massive size and hovered above him. Sora turned around to see the large monster from his dream. The Keyblade appeared in his hand and Sora prepared to fight the creature.

The creature kneeled down and it's hollow chest began to glow. Dark energy gathered as it let lose a stream of dark missiles. Sora jumped out of the way of several as the monster loomed over him. It slammed it's hand into the ground and more Shadow's emerged. Sora took out those that he could and struck at the creatures arm. Noticing that he was doing next to nothing, he switched targets and climbed onto the arm. The creature attempted to pull it's arm out of the ground, but Sora struck it's head several times.

The creature thrashed in pain and it managed to shake Sora off. Before the fight could go any further however, the storm picked up and the creature was lifted into the sky. Sora meanwhile, clung onto the remains of the raft as he was lifted into the air as well. He grit his teeth as he tried to keep his grip. The wood splintered and Sora let out a gasp as he was dragged into the storm as well.

Far off in the world of Traverse Town, Donald and Goofy entered the first district when Goofy noticed something. "Look!" He said pointing to the sky. "A star's goin' out!" A star above them winked out of existence.

"Come on. We gotta hurry." Donald said. The two continued on walking. "Where's that key." Donald muttered angerly.

"Hey, ya know, maybe we ought to go find this Seeker or Leon." Goofy said. Ahead of them, Pluto sniffed at the ground and moved towards an alleyway. "Uh, Donald. Ya know, I betcha that-"

"What do you know you big palooka?"

"What do I know?" Goofy wondered. "Hmmm, come on Pluto." He called out. Pluto ignored Goofy and continued to wander the streets.

A small gummi ship flew through space. It's sole occupant was deep in thought. "Nine years, nine years and I still don't have a clue as to where that witch is hiding." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a yellow star shaped charm. The charm looked as if it had seen better days, the glass was cracked, the metal bent and rusted, and one of the points ended abruptly. He let out an angry sigh as he tossed the charm onto the dashboard. He brushed his unkept hair out of his sight and looked at his reflection. Tired brown eyes looked back at him as he touched the scar on the left side of his face.

Painful memories of how he got the scar flashed in his mind. "I really wish any of you were here now. Maybe if you were, then maybe…things would be lot different. We could have stopped Maleficent, then and there, stopped the Heartless, saved Zack," he paused, "saved El…" A star twinkled brightly and winked out. "And that is yet another world gone, yet another world consumed by the Heartless. That's what I get for chasing after lost dreams." He leaned back in his chair.

He noticed something floating in space. "Someone actually survived their world's destruction? Rare, but not unheard of." He angled his ship to intercept the person. Bringing him aboard, he saw that it was a kid. He pulled out a note book and began to write in it. "Found a survivor, looks to be about 14, brown spikey hair, and completely unconscious. He looks to be holding-" he stopped writing instantly and glared at the offending object.

"Merde," he muttered, "Now where did you get this." He grit his teeth at every word. "Guess that explains why you survived the Heartless." The boy began to stir.

"What a dream…" He groaned as he sat up. "Where?" Sora questioned when he saw a strange man above him. Sora yelped and tumbled, "Who are you?!" He shouted in a panic.

"My name is unimportant to you, just call me The Seeker, everyone else does."

"Seeker of what?"

"None of your business!" He snapped. "Now the sooner you leave with that the better."

"You mean the Keyblade?"

"Yes. The Keyblade." He practically spat the last words out. "I'm taking you to Traverse Town, there you can find shelter. But expect nothing else from me Keybearer."

"I haven't done anything though." Sora protested.

"I know." The Seeker sighed. "Look kid, I'd hazard a guess that you just recently got that so let me give you some advice. Get rid of it. As soon as you can."

"But why?" Sora said. "It was able to fight off the monsters."

"Anyone with a half decent weapon could face the Heartless. But the Keyblade." He paused. "The damn thing is a curse. It will bring nothing but pain and suffering to all who come into contact with it. Trust me kid you'd be better off without it."
