The Reawakening

She stutters around the plain, looking aimlessly around. Her head permanently downwards, as if searching for something, anything. When she fails to find it a pathetic, sad noise comes from inside her. It appears to stop life all around her, as if everything is mourning with her, for what she has lost.
Her eyes by now are empty, devoid of any emotion or life. She suddenly feels utterly alone, and she is lost. How she yearns for some company, even now she cannot understand where her mistress has gone. But she continues searching for her, determined to find her somewhere.
By now her feet are sore as she hobbles over the ever-changing landscape. She searches around for somewhere to rest her aching limbs. As a resting place between some rocks, calls to her she stumbles over to it. She drops down pathetically her long tail resting between two huge boulders.
She curls up her face resting on the floor. Her ears are still listening out for any little noise. Even now she still hopes for a miracle, but all she hears is silence, and she finally drifts off to sleep. All around her is quiet, as the last dragon finally finds some sleep. But even as she doses a part of her remains alert, no creature of magic completely turns off all its senses, after all.
She dreams about happier days when she was with her mistress, she revels in her love and companionship. She remembers the adventures they had, the time she served her. As she laid there she hopes that one day she will hear her call once again. Even now she doesn't realise that she will never hear her voice again.
As she drifts between two worlds, something wakes her up and she is alert once more. She lifts her weary head, but suddenly there is a light there. She senses the air, her nose moving one way then the other. She pricks her ear up and concentrates really hard once again she hears the shout.
This time she gets to her feet excitement and a sense of fear taking her over. Suddenly she sees a figure coming towards her getting bigger by the second. She senses the same despair in that figure, that she herself was feeling just before. Aithusa slowly moves towards the outstretched hand, flinching for a second as she remembers how in times of past, they had not always been on the same side.
But as she continues to walk over to the man, she senses compassion in his eyes and manner. In that moment she is no longer scared, and she walks right up to him, and stays still as his arms come around her neck. At long last the last Dragon is back with the Last Dragonlord. The world around them seems to relax and the promise of new adventures unites the two of them together. The new phase of Aithusa's life begins.
