HELLO! VIEWERS, YEP GUESS WHO"S BACK FROM THE DEAD AT LAST!?
The Bright white moon shone down on Blight Manor, bathing the house in its glow. One room in particular was awash in moonlight entering from the open window. This was the room of Amity Blight, a young witch who was currently tossing and turning in her bed as she struggled to go to sleep. A few days ago she had managed to save Luz from her mother's rampaging Abomitron, she had also managed to get her parents to approve her friendships with Willow and Gus. Throughout the whole ordeal, Amity couldn't help but notice that Luz seemed to act a bit strange around her. She wondered if perhaps that meant that Luz felt something for her the way she did for Luz. These thoughts had been replaying in her mind the past few nights and had made it hard for her to fall asleep. As Amity continued to try and fall asleep, she thought more about Luz, she wondered where she was, how she was doing, and whether Luz was asleep or not. Slowly these thoughts took over Amity's unconscious mind, as they did she felt impelled to get up and go look for Luz. Amity got out of bed and began to stumble around her room, eventually, she found the door and made her way out of her room and downstairs.
As it so happened Emira was in the kitchen eating the last of an old fairy pie. Emira noticed Amity and called out to her.
"Hey sis, didn't know you were still up," said Emira.
"I have to find Luz," replied Amity in a slow sleepy voice.
"Luz?" said Emira, "Oh right of course you do. You know maybe it was my imagination but I could have sworn she looked a little flustered around you after that whole incident at the factory."
Amity replied by snoring. She reached over and grabbed a fork, then tried to grab some of the pie Emira was eating. Emira brought up her own fork and blocked her.
"Uh what do you think you're doing sis?" asked Emira in an annoyed tone, "I called the last of the pie, it's mine."
Amity again tried to get at the pie, again Emira blocked her though she also formed her face into a coy smile.
"Oh I see, you want to battle for the leftovers?" said Emira grinning, "well if you insist, but I warn you I won't go easy on you."
Amity again snored in response, which Emira interpreted as a sign she was ready.
With that Amity used her fork and lunged at the pie. Emira brought up her own fork and blocked it, Amity tried again but again her sister parried her.
"To slow sis," gloated Emira, "you're gonna have to try harder than that."
Amity withdrew her fork and moved her hand around moving the fork in different directions, she made a feint toward the pie before twirling it in her hand trying to distract Emira.
"Okay, now this is getting interesting," said Emira.
Amity moved the fork in one direction, feinted, and then moved it toward the pie. Emira blocked her attempt Amity pressed forward with her hand trying to overpower her sister, Emira struggled against Amity as she tried to push her back. Finally, Amity made a spell circle with her other hand summoning up an abomination fork, with one final effort she pushed Emira back and used her other hand to reach into the pie and scoop some out, she quickly ate it.
"Hey that's cheating!" exclaimed Emira.
Amity's face formed into a cunning smile, though she was still asleep and didn't say anything.
"Oh, you're not gonna defend that at all?" asked Emira, "okay fine, be that way. At least I know that you had to cheat to win. Well enjoy the rest of the pie, I'm going to bed."
Emira left the kitchen in a huff, while Amity finished eating the rest of the pie.
Once she was finished eating she made her way to the hall, preparing to leave only for her brother Edric to see her.
"Yo sis, what's got you up at this hour?" asked Edric. Amity didn't respond.
"Sis, you there?" asked Edric bringing up his hand and snapping his fingers in front of Amity, still no response.
Edric realized immediately that she was sleepwalking and decided to play a trick on his sister. Noticing that she was barefoot he grabbed a mouse trap and made it active, sneaking in front of her to place it in her path. He set it down and watched hoping it would snap on her. Amity walked right up to the mousetrap and for a second seemed as though she would step on it, but at the last second, she raised her foot and walked over it, continuing down the hall. Edric let out a huff, mad that his prank had failed, and walked away, only to step on his own mousetrap and let out a shout of pain!
Emira came running over at the sound, "Ed why are you screaming?! You're going to wake up mom and dad!"
Edric brought his hand up to his mouth to muffle his screams and pointed at his foot which still had the mousetrap attached to it. Emira let out a sigh before pulling it off and slapping her brother upside the head.
Amity left the mansion out the front door ready to go on her quest to find Luz. As Amity stepped out onto the grass, it felt cold against her bare feet, but she pressed on walking away from the mansion and into town. As she reached Bonesbourogh she ran into a familiar face.
"Amity what are you doing here?" asked Boscha to the sleeping witch.
Amity didn't respond and simply let out a snore.
"Oh, I see you're giving me the silent treatment now is that it?" asked Boscha, again Amity didn't reply.
"You know it's not too late Amity," said Boscha, "I know there was that whole incident with the Grudgeby Match, but I'm a forgiving person. I'm willing to put it past us and try and start over."
"Boscha they forced me to be your friend," replied Amity in a sleepy voice.
"Forced you? Who forced you?" asked Boscha.
"My parents," said Amity, "they said I had to be your friend because your parents worked with my parents."
"What?!" said Boscha in surprise.
"The only reason I started hanging out with you was because my parents said I had to," said Amity, "I could tell even back then that you were mean."
"I'm not mean," replied Boscha.
"Yes you are," replied Amity.
"No, I'm not," said Boscha making a face and pouting.
"Boscha," said Amity, "I saw you when you were eight years old, you crushed that bug for not reason other than it was in your way. You cut in line at the fair and told that other girl that you could because of who your parents are. When we were on the Grudgeby team together you never passed to other players because you wanted to have all the glory for yourself."
Boscha took in all that Amity was saying, but refused to listen or see reason, "You know how it is Amity, the strong rule over the weak, you have to look out for yourself or you'll never be number one."
"Well you know what, Luz, Willow, and Gus aren't like that," countered Amity, "I don't want to be like that either and that's why I'd rather hang out with them."
With that Amity turned in a huff and left Boscha standing there.
"Oh is that how you feel?" asked Boscha in anger, she made a spell circle with her hand, "well then why don't you take this!"
Boscha launched a fireball at Amity, Amity moved to the side dodging the projectile. Boscha launched another fireball at her, and again Amity dodged. Boscha launched a third fireball and this time Amity made a spell circle summoning an abomination arm that grabbed the fireball and hurled it back at Boscha. The witch let out a yell and tried to jump out of the way but the fireball struck her dead-on, leaving her face covered in soot, and singing her hair. Amity continued on her way while Boscha tried to put out the fire in her hair.
"I'll get you for that Blight!" called Boscha after Amity as she left.
Amity walked into town, still asleep, and not quite sure where she was going. After a few minutes, she walked past a hattery that was about to close for the night.
"Oh did you need something miss?" asked the demon, an old-looking rabbit demon, he glanced again realizing who the girl was, "Oh Miss Blight, how wonderful for you to grace me with your presence, what can I do for you?"
"I need a new top hat," said Amity, "need to impress a girl I like."
"Ah of course you do," said the demon pulling out a tape measure, "I've outfitted the Blights with some of the best hats on the isles. Your father had me make him a custom top hat for this wedding, and he most assuredly looked dashing in it."
The demon looked over at Amity realizing she was only in her pajamas.
"Uh, you are going to wear this hat with more suitable clothes right?"
"Yeah sure," answered Amity.
"Alright well let's get you inside and try on a few different models on you," said the demon.
Once inside the store, the demon measured Amity's head then took out several different top hats and tried each of them on Amity, some were too big and fell over her eyes while others were too small and fell off her head. Amity stood there in her sleepwalking state, not fully paying attention. After a few more tires the demon hatter came up to her with a top hat that had a beautiful lavender bow on it.
"I think this color would suit you well," he said placing the hat on Amity.
"Alright I'll take it," she said, "you can charge my family's account right?"
"Of course, your family and I have an understanding," said the demon, "I'll send the bill to your parents, do you need me to box up that hat for you?"
"No, it's fine I'll wear it," said Amity.
"Eh, you'll wear it?" asked the demon in confusion, "but Miss Blight I don't think you're properly attired for that hat right now. You're not even wearing shoes. Surely you want to take it home."
"No, I'm good, thanks for everything," said Amity as she stumbled out of the shop still in her sleepy state.
With her new hat secured Amity made her way to a witch who was selling flowers just outside the city. She called out trying to attract new customers.
"Fresh flowers! Only five snails for a bouquet!" called the witch waving around a bouquet of some beautiful violet flowers."
"I'd like one," said Amity walking up to the witch.
"Of course," said the witch in a friendly voice, she handed a bouquet to Amity. Amity reached into her pocket and dug out a bag with snails in it, at first she tried to fish out the right amount to pay for the flowers but eventually gave up and handed her the whole bag which was filled with snails. The witch looked closely at Amity realizing she was asleep but decided to say nothing.
Now all that was left to do was make her way to the Owl House. Amity tried to get her bearings and walked toward where she thought the house was. While it wasn't far from Bonesbourough it was still a considerable distance on foot. Still, Amity trudged along and eventually made her way to the door. Hooty was sound asleep wearing a nightcap and snoring loudly. Amity walked up to him and knocked loudly on his face.
"Hey what's going on?" said Hooty as he woke up, he looked around and finally noticed Amity.
"Oh what are you doing here?" he asked giving her a quizzical look.
"I'm here to see Luz," replied Amity.
"Sorry it's past her bedtime, and I think it's past yours too," said Hooty, "Maybe I should take you home."
"No I need to see Luz," said Amity.
"What's with the hat and pajamas?" asked Hooty looking at Amity's appearance, "you trying to start a new fashion trend? If so I'm gonna sue for copyright. I started that look first!"
"Yeah but it looks a lot better on me than it does you," replied Amity with a hint of snark.
"Oh is that how you want to be?" said Hooty, "well in that case maybe I'll just close up for the night and kick you out."
"If I remember correctly I beat you up last time I was here," said Amity, "so do you want to let me in or do I need to force my way in."
"Alright… hoot! If you want to get in you'll have to solve my riddle," said Hooty proudly.
"Fine," said Amity, "I'm the Top Student at Hexside. Should be no problem."
Hooty cleared his throat before beginning,
"It flies by night when others sleep,
Its wisdom is both vast and deep,
Its eyes are wide and they see all
Spotting rodents and upon them fall
With talons sharp they catch their prey
And then they sleep throughout the day.
What am I?"
"An owl," answered Amity without missing a beat.
Hooty paused before saying, "Lucky guess, oh oh wait I want a mulligan on that. I have to think up a better one."
"Now listen here bird brain," said Amity making a spell circle with her hand, "I beat you up at Grom I can do it again so let me in or else."
"Geez, you never want to have any fun, hoot!" said Hooty in an annoyed tone. He then opened his mouth allowing Amity to enter inside.
As Amity wandered into the house she couldn't immediately see Luz, as she thought about it she realized she had no idea where Luz's room was.
"Luz," called Amity into the darkness. No reply.
"Luz," called Amity again, still no reply.
Amity took a beat before deciding to head for the basement to see if she could find Luz. Once she was there she stumbled around in the dark not able to see where she was going. She stubbed her toes a few times as she blindly walked through the basement. After a few minutes, she gave up and walked back upstairs still trying to find Luz. Right at that moment King walked out of the closet, he yelped at seeing Amity in the house.
"Weh! What are you doing here?" he asked in disbelief.
"I'm here to find Luz," replied Amity, "I wanted to give her these!" She showed the bouquet to King.
"Did you walk all the way from your house in the middle of the night?" asked King in disbelief.
"Yep," replied Amity as though it were the simplest thing in the world.
"Wow, I thought I was tough when I snuck into that restaurant to steal a snack," said King, "you must really want to see Luz."
Amity let out a snore.
"Are you even awake?" he asked looking more intently into her face. He saw her eyes were closed, and an idea came to him.
"You know I just so happen to know where Luz is and I'll tell you…. If you make me some scones," said King in a knowing voice.
"Yeah sure, whatever you want," said Amity.
"Oh really, well in that case maybe I'll ask for more stuff," he got up and grabbed Amity's hand leading her into the kitchen.
As King finished his twelfth scone he let out a small burp.
"Mmmm those were tasty," he said licking his lips, "I had no idea you were such a great baker Amity. I'll make sure and keep you in mind whenever I need more offerings."
"You were going to tell me where Luz is?" said Amity.
"Right, although maybe I need one more batch of scones," began King in a teasing voice. Amity glared at him raising her fist in the air.
"Alright, alright, she's over in the closet," said King pointing to the door. Amity looked toward the door, picked up her bouquet, and walked over to it.
Amity leaned her ear against the door and thought she heard snoring coming from the other side. Slowly Amity opened the door, as she did she finally saw Luz sleeping on the floor.
"Luz, there you are," said Amity in a soft voice.
As Amity spoke Luz began to stir in her sleep and began speaking.
"Amity," began Luz in a sleepy voice, "you were so brave at that factory demonstration. The way you swooped in to save me was so heroic! I think in that moment I realized just how cool you were!"
Amity involuntarily blushed as she heard Luz compliment her.
"I wanted to tell you afterward just how awesome you were defending me like that," continued Luz, "Honestly I think… I think…."
"Yes?" said Amity in anticipation.
"I think I have a…." began Luz before falling back to sleep again.
"You have a what?" asked Amity in desperation. She stood there pouting for a few seconds before letting out a sigh. Amity looked around for a place to put the flowers she bought Luz before finally finding a nearby vase. She put them in the vase and then brought the vase down to the floor and laid it next to the sleeping Luz. She took off her top hat and put it down next to the vase before finally getting on the floor herself next to Luz and cuddling with her. Luz's face seemed to smile as Amity put her arm around her but she didn't wake up and continued her steady breathing. Amity leaned over and gave the sleeping Luz a kiss on the cheek before settling in and falling back asleep.
