A little recap: Bonnie and the Mikaelsons are in Mystic Falls where the battle ensued against Inadu (aka the Hollow) and her forces (she brought an army of creatures controlled by her dark power) Bonnie freed Elijah, Kol, and Rebekah from the Hollow's control. The Hollow was using Drusilla as its last vessel while her brother Daniel helped Bonnie and company in the hopes of saving his sister. Bonnie had to call upon the power of Expression to defeat the Hollow who decided to jump out of Drusilla's weakening body and fight Bonnie in spirit form. This is the aftermath of the battle.
The sky lit up as Bonnie's magic destroyed the Hollow completely. The explosion of magic shook Mystic Falls to the core as the glorious power of Expression consumed the dark mass of power the Hollow had become.
Klaus watched mesmerized as Bonnie gave the last blow to the malevolent entity that had hunted down his little girl for years. It was magnificent. He knew Bonnie was powerful, he had witnessed firsthand just how determined and incredible she was. He still remembered the way she had come out of the shadows- fire trailing her steps as she used her magic against him on the night he broke his curse. He knew Bonnie had used Expression before. He had heard what that kind of magic could do but now that he had seen it in action he was in awe. It was glorious. Bonnie Bennett was a queen and he felt like he needed to get on his knees and worship every inch of her. His skin itched from the incredible power that engulfed them. There were currents of magic floating all around them, the residue from the fight between Bonnie and Inadu.
When it was all said and done, Inadu was defeated and with her death, the army of creatures she had brought were completely decimated. Black ash rained down on all of them like confetti while night became day once more.
It was finally over.
The moment Bonnie fell, Klaus was there. He caught her in his arms and held her against his chest. "I got you love," he murmured as he pulled her closer. "You're alright, I got you." Black ash continued to rain on them and Klaus made a face as the putrid scent penetrated his senses. It was horrid.
It was without a doubt the stench of death and decay.
"Bonnie!" Hope rushed to her side as well, heart pounding loudly. "Is she going to be okay, Daddy?" she got on her knees next to them and touched Bonnie's arm. "She's cold as ice," she hissed. Fear clung to Hope like a second skin. She stared at her father in horror.
Klaus swallowed hard as he looked at Bonnie's pale face. She was so tiny and delicate. He wanted to keep her in his arms forever and protect her from everything. Worst of all, he could not hear Bonnie's heartbeat. Klaus felt true fear then. No, it can't be.
Hope used her superior senses, those abilities she had inherited from her father and focused hard on Bonnie's chest, desperately trying to hear the beat of her heart. "Please…no…" tears gathered in the corner of her eyes. "Daddy…" she cried out in pain.
"Everything will be alright, sweetheart." While his voice was steady, inside Klaus was consumed by dread. Like Hope, Klaus used his hybrid abilities to search for that precious heartbeat. It was only a couple of seconds but Klaus felt like he died and came back. The despair he felt at the thought of losing Bonnie was unlike anything he had ever experienced before.
There.
It was agonizing how long it took to find that precious sound but it was there, although very faint. Klaus bit into his flesh and pressed his bloody wrist against Bonnie's dry lips. "Come on, love." He tried his best not to panic, not wanting to scare Hope more than she already was. His daughter's fear mixed with his own. "Come on," he urged Bonnie to drink by massaging her throat, hoping that his rich hybrid blood would flow down and heal whatever internal injuries she had. His senses kept following that slow fluttering, keeping track of each thump, thump.
"Bonnie!" Hope cried out in desperation. "Please wake up."
"She will be okay, love." Klaus needed to believe that himself. He could not imagine a world without Bonnie in it. "Drink, love." It took time and effort for him to force his blood down Bonnie's throat. When his wrist healed, Klaus bit into it again, and placed it against Bonnie's now bloodied lips. Half of his blood went down her throat, the other spilled down her neck and chest. It was a slow process. Bonnie was unmoving and even though Klaus was forcing the blood down her throat, some if not most, spilled out. He bit into his wrist a third time and fed her again. He would keep doing it, no matter how long it took, he would keep feeding her his blood. Klaus knew his powerful hybrid blood would help heal her. He just hoped he had not done it too late. More than anything, Klaus hoped Bonnie had not fallen into a magical coma again, like the last time she had used Expression.
"Come on, Bonnie." Hope encouraged her with tears flowing down her cheeks.
Klaus finally allowed himself to relax when he was able to hear Bonnie's heartbeat more clearly. Now, that his blood was in her system it grew stronger.
Hope heard it as well and let out a sigh of relief. "Her heart is stronger." She offered her father a shaky smile.
"Yes, it is." Klaus returned her smile.
"She's going to be okay?" Hope desperately needed her father's reassurance.
"She's going to be fine." Please do not make me a liar, my love, Klaus thought while glancing at his beloved. You must wake up, Bonnie. I need you. Hope needs you. Please.
Bonnie remained unconscious in his arms.
While Klaus and Hope focused solely on Bonnie; Elijah woke up with a pained groan. Inadu ripped his heart out but it had fully regenerated by now.
Finn who was closed by had woken up too.
Both brothers found each other's gazes and shared a nod before turning to survey the area. The sun was shining brightly and ash covered the ground. There were some small electric currents as the leftover magic from the battle between Bonnie and the Hollow dispersed. The fight had been brutal but at last, Inadu and her forces had been defeated.
"Freya!" Finn cried out upon noticing his sister.
The Mikaelson witch had been paralyzed by Inadu but once she was defeated, the spell broke and Freya was able to get up. Her eyes immediately found Klaus and Hope both preoccupied by the unconscious Bennett witch in her brother's arms. Freya felt fear grip her heart at the sight of the pale tiny witch.
"Are you alright darling?" Finn reached her side and scanned her from head to toe, ensuring she was not suffering from any major injuries before he pulled her into a tight hug which Freya returned with enthusiasm. Her eyes met Elijah's over Finn's shoulder and she smiled at him. Despite her exhaustion, Freya felt relieved. It was over. They had won. Thanks to the brilliance of Bonnie Bennett her family was saved.
"I'll live." Freya finally pulled away from Finn and grabbed his face, staring into his eyes. "Are you alright?" There was a part of her that feared that the Hollow's dark magic would prevail somehow. That even though she had been defeated, her siblings would still be afflicted by that horrendous power.
Finn nodded and gave her a reassuring smile. "I am fine." He had never been under the influence of Inadu's dark magic. He had faked it and managed to escape to find Hope and keep her safe. In the end, he had not been able to do much. Bonnie Bennett had been the one to deliver the final blow to their biggest enemy. "It's finally over."
Freya turned to Elijah. "And you?"
"I'm alright." Elijah pulled her into his arms and kissed the top of her head. "It's over," he whispered almost as if he couldn't believe it. They had been fighting the Hollow for so long. It all seemed like a dream come true.
"It is." Freya looked at Bonnie still unconscious. Please let her wake up soon, she prayed.
Marcel who was still recovering from his injuries groaned as he pulled himself into a sitting position. "Fuck!" the younger vampire hissed as he looked over his burned body. His healing abilities struggled to mend all the burns he had across his body. Had it not been for Hope's intervention, Marcel would have burned to a crisp. He glanced at his little sister. She was still kneeling on the ground, eyes on Bonnie. "Is she…" he trailed off. Marcel feared the fate of the young Bennett witch. He feared what Klaus would do more than anything. He didn't think the world would be able to handle his father's grief.
"She will be fine," Klaus hissed, having heard him. He tried to mask it but Marcel saw the anguish in his face. "We need to get back to the safe house." Klaus stood up, gently picking Bonnie in his arms. He looked towards his siblings then.
Elijah nodded, his eyes dropping to the witch in Klaus's arms. An array of conflicting emotions invaded him. He prayed to whatever Gods, or spirits, or power out there that Bonnie would recover. Elijah better than anyone knew what it would do to his brother if he were to lose his woman. Despite his reluctance to accept the young Bennett witch and her evolving relationship with his brother, Elijah knew he was free of the Hollow's control because of Bonnie. Hope was safe because of Bonnie. They owed Bonnie Bennett a great debt. He hoped that he would be able to repay her one day. "Yes," he cleared his throat. "I think we could all use some time to recuperate." Most of them had been affected by the Hollow's power in some way. There was also a lot of clean up to do so the town could receive its people back.
Marcel got up on shaky legs. "You alright?" he limped towards Hope.
Hope nodded, using the back of her hand to wipe some of her tears. "You?" she whispered back.
"I'll be okay." Marcel smiled at her. Everything hurt but he could handle the pain. It was better to be in pain and covered in burns than dead. He winced thinking of his guys. Who knew how many of them had perished fighting the Hollow's forces. "Do we have any word from the Wolves and the Vampires fighting on our side?" His eyes found Ansel. Klaus's father was always a silent presence.
"No word yet," the Alpha responded. "Can you make it to the house?"
"I think so."
Klaus looked over Marcel's injuries before offering him his wrist.
Marcel shook his head. "I can make it." He felt grateful but he knew he could make it back to the safe house without any issues. "Thanks." His eyes landed on Bonnie once more. She looked like she was asleep. He could detect the steady rhythm of her heart and that gave him some reassurance that Bonnie would be okay.
Klaus slid his gaze from Marcel towards Ansel who was injured but alive. He nodded in the Alpha wolf's direction. Despite their fracture relationship Klaus could appreciate Ansel fighting with them to protect Hope.
"She did it," Ansel murmured as he kept his eyes on Klaus and Bonnie. "She protected us." Bonnie had been their shield when the Hollow unleashed all its dark power upon them. Ansel was in awe of the tiny witch. Never in his life had he witnessed such marvelous display of power. "She saved us all."
"She did." Klaus held Bonnie as if she were the most precious thing in all the world. "Come on, love." He looked at his daughter then.
Hope stood by his side, face sad.
Klaus nodded towards Finn who remained by Freya's side before noticing the Regent of New Orleans-Vincent-who stood next to an unconscious Daniel. Klaus looked at the male witch before facing Vincent once more.
"He's alive," Vincent answered Klaus's unspoken question. "I broke your link to Inadu and linked Drusilla to Daniel." It had been a close call but he had managed it. "The Hollow sent him a nasty spell but I healed him."
All eyes turned to the witch who had been the last vessel for the Hollow.
Drusilla laid on the ground, unmoving.
Freya and Elijah walked towards her. Drusilla had injuries all over her body, not as bad as before when her body had been decaying because of the Hollow's all-consuming power. Her link to Klaus helped to regenerate her body for a while. It might even be the reason she still lived for when they had been linked, Inadu had drawn from Klaus's strength to help Drusilla's weaken body gain vitality.
"Is she-" Vincent coughed, he like all of them was covered in black ash. The smell of death and decay clung to his clothes. He looked at Freya, wondering if their plan had worked after all.
"She has a heartbeat," Elijah confirmed as he checked Drusilla's pulse. It was faint but it was still there. Her body had been nearly destroyed during her possession and battle against Bonnie but she had survived. It seemed Drusilla wanted to live. He bit his wrist and fed her his blood.
"The spell," Vincent kept his eyes on Freya. "Did you-"
"I did." Freya murmured as she contemplated the other witch. She crossed her arms over her chest. Her bones still ached a bit. "Inadu paralyzed me but I did the spell to preserve Drusilla's soul." It hurt like hell but she managed the chant in her head. She just hoped it had worked.
"Let's get out of here," Klaus ordered everyone.
"Come with me darling." Freya took Hope's hand and offered her a small smile.
Elijah picked Drusilla in his arms and Finn picked up Daniel.
Ansel helped a struggling Marcel while Vincent followed closely behind them.
Now that the battle was over, they could rest and assess the damage Inadu and her army had bestowed upon Mystic Falls.
The one thought that plagued everyone's mind was Bonnie, the incredible power she had displayed when she fought and protected them, and the hope that she would be okay.
Matt coughed and spit some of the black ash that covered his entire body. There had been a blast of energy that knocked everyone out. Then came the ashy rain curtesy of the creatures as they disintegrated. "What the hell-" he coughed again. Some of the ash went inside his mouth and he gagged. It was the taste of death.
"Bloody hell!" Rebekah shook her head and wiped her face. She too was covered in ash from head to toe. "My hair," she whined.
"I'm going to need to soak in a tub for a week to get rid of this stench!" Kol hissed as he shook the ash from his head and clothes. The smell was terrible. He hated it. The dark magic that the creatures were made from was vile and even though there were no corpses left behind, the ash that remained was heavy and it clung to them like mud.
Kol had come to Matt and Rebekah's aid during the fight against the Hollow's army. He like Rebekah had been freed from the Hollow's control thanks to Bonnie's magic. He had been thirsty for revenge and had joined the fray, taking great pleasure in ripping the creatures the hollow commanded to pieces. Now he wanted nothing more than to cleanse his body. He was thirsty too. He looked at Matt, the now Sheriff of Mystic Falls. Maybe he could take a sip or two. Or maybe not, Bonnie would probably hex him if he dared. He sighed. "Is it done then?"
"I think so," Rebekah shrugged.
"They're dead for good," Matt stared at the piles of ash at their feet. The creatures had been destroyed and had yet to regenerate. He felt relieved.
"Finally!" Rebekah sighed. They had done it. They had survived the onslaught of those annoying creepy creatures. Her mind was her own and the sun was shining down upon them. She breathed the fresh air and found herself smiling at Matt. "The Hollow has been defeated at last."
"Yeah," Matt grinned back at her. There was a mess to clean up that was for sure. He also did not even want to think about how many wolves or vampires they had lost in the battle. He could only hope that Bonnie was okay. That she and Hope and yes, even Klaus had made it out.
"Do you know where Nik and Freya are staying?" Rebekah asked suddenly.
"A house near the cemetery," Matt replied.
"Lovely," Kol muttered as he attempted to remove ash from his jacket.
"We should go there," Rebekah suggested. "Make sure everyone is okay."
"We have a mess to clean up," Matt reminded her while pointing to the ashes at their feet. The entire road was covered in ash too. It would take hours or days to clean the whole town.
"Later," Rebekah promised him.
Kol made a face. "You don't expect us to help with the clean up?" What did the human take them for, servants? Kol was not going to clean anything up.
"Actually, I do."
Kol gave Matt an incredulous look.
"I want to make sure our family is safe," Rebekah's voice interrupted their staring contest. "We can clean up later."
"I'm not cleaning anything!" Kol told her.
"We'll see about that." Rebekah gave him an annoyed look before turning to Matt. "The ash is not going anywhere and we could all use some time to regroup before we clean." Plus, she wanted to make sure that her siblings had made it out from the battle unscathed. She knew they couldn't be killed like other vampires but the Hollow's dark power was dangerous. Above all, she wanted to make sure Hope was safe.
"Okay," Matt agreed. "We should also check on the wolves and the vampires that fought on our side." The vampires and wolves that came with Marcel. Vincent, and Ansel fought bravely and Matt was thankful that they helped defend his town. Unfortunately, he had no doubt that they had suffered some great casualties too.
The three of them began making their way to the safe house.
By the time they made to the safe house, everyone was exhausted.
The battle against the Inadu and her forces had taken a toll.
Finn deposited Daniel on the living room couch while Marcel headed straight for the kitchen in search for blood. Elijah took Drusilla to one of the bedrooms upstairs. They didn't know what her condition would be upon waking up. There was also the matter of her soul. Freya felt sure she had completed the spell to protect her soul but they would not know for sure until Drusilla opened her eyes.
"I'll keep an eye on her," Vincent told her as he trailed after Elijah.
"Thank-you." Freya said before she followed Klaus to the bedroom on the opposite side of the hall, the one he shared with Bonnie. Hope still clutched her hand. She was so quiet. The worry she felt for Bonnie evident. "Maybe you should wait in the living room," Freya told her gently. She hated seeing Hope so sad and worried.
"I'm staying with Bonnie!" Hope proclaimed with a pout.
Freya chose not to argue with her.
Klaus laid Bonnie down on the bed, gently brushing her hair from her face. His knuckles traced her cheek and he felt relieved that her skin had lost its coldness. It felt warm to the touch now. She also looked peaceful, as she usually did when she slept. Many a night, Klaus had stayed up watching her. They had been sharing a bed since they left the sanctuary. Klaus hardly needed any sleep but he did enjoy holding her in his arms and loved waking her up with his kisses.
"Why isn't she waking up?" Hope asked fearfully as she stood next to father. "You gave her your blood, she should be awake by now."
Klaus felt his heart break upon seeing her tear-stained face. She was covered in ash and her eyes were red and puffy. "She-" he hesitated, not knowing how to answer. Like Hope, he was afraid. He gave Freya a helpless look.
"Let me check her." Freya moved to the opposite side of the bed and leaned over Bonnie's body. Despite the ash and blood, Bonnie looked serene.
Hoped grabbed her father's hand as they waited nervously for Freya to examine Bonnie.
Freya took a deep breath before she moved her palm over Bonnie's body and began chanting under her breath. "No fever," she murmured while keeping her eyes closed. "No internal injuries that I can sense either, that's good." Her palm glowed as it moved down Bonnie's chest and stomach until she reached her feet. She then repeated the process this time in the reverse-she moved her palm from Bonnie's feet all the way to her chest. "Her heart rate is strong." She moved her palm up until she reached Bonnie's head. "All her vital signs are normal." She opened her eyes and looked at Hope before focusing on Klaus once more. "She's magically exhausted," Freya diagnosed. "The amount of magic she displayed tonight clearly took a toll. Despite how powerful she is, at the end of the day, Bonnie is still human. There is only so much her body can take."
"My blood should help her though." Klaus was not just any vampire, he was the Original Hybrid, his blood was an elixir of power. It could cure anything.
"Yes," Freya agreed with him. "Magic can drain the body and your blood is currently pumping her with strength." She smiled down at Hope. "She just needs to sleep it off, sweetie."
"Are you sure?" Hope asked in a tiny voice.
"Yes."
Klaus felt reassured by Freya's words and yet, there was a lingering fear. Last time Bonnie had channeled so much power-Expression in particular- she had ended up in a magical coma for nearly a decade. Her body had not been able to withstand all that power. He had visited her in the hospital and even given her some of his blood thinking that might wake her. It hadn't. No, Bonnie woke from her coma with a kiss. He suddenly felt the urge to kiss her again. But what if that didn't work this time?
"There isn't much else we can do. I wouldn't be surprised if she sleeps for a whole day," Freya told them gently.
"Very well."
"I'll go change and get some refreshments started," Freya said. Everyone needed a couple of hours of sleep and some food wouldn't hurt either. "I'll check on Drusilla and Daniel."
Klaus nodded. "Thank-you."
Freya approached him and kissed his cheek tenderly. "I'm sure you will want to see Rebekah and Kol." She was eager to be reunited with all her siblings now that they were free from the Hollow's control and knew that although he wasn't showing it, Klaus wanted to be reunited with them too.
"Later." As much as Klaus wanted to see Rebekah and he felt sure Hope did as well, he could not take his eyes off Bonnie. He did not want to leave her side and neither did Hope. In such a short time, Bonnie had become an integral part of their family.
Freya glanced at Hope. "Do you want anything to eat or drink?" she asked her little niece.
Hope shook her head.
"How about a hot bath?" Freya suggested with a small smile. "Wouldn't you like to take all that ash off and changed into something else?" Hope had been through a lot and a hot bath and food would help her- Freya was sure of it and it could also serve as a distraction until Bonnie woke up.
"No, thank-you." Hope let go of her father's and climbed on the bed with Bonnie, curling herself against her side. She didn't care that they were both covered in ash and probably smelled like death. All Hope wanted was to see Bonnie wake up. "I'm not leaving Bonnie."
Freya looked at Klaus who shook his head. He knew better than to try and make Hope go away. "We'll both stay here for now." He had no plans of leaving Bonnie either.
"Very well," Freya had no other choice but to accept. "Let me know if you need anything."
Klaus nodded, eyes still on Bonnie and Hope who snuggled closer to the sleeping witch.
Freya gave them one last look before exiting the room.
Daniel felt like his throat had turned to sand paper and his body ached with each step he took. He woke up at the safe house near the cemetery, feeling disoriented. Ansel had informed him of the Hollow's demise at Bonnie's hands. Daniel had suffered the Hollow's vicious attack and had missed the last part of the battle between the malevolent spirit and the Bennett witch; judging but the awed look on Ansel's face, it had been magnificent.
Vincent had apparently healed him and linked him to his sister. That had been the plan to save her life.
Everyone was currently recuperating from the battle but Daniel had only one thought in mind. His sister. He needed to see Dru. He needed to make sure she was okay. The plan had apparently worked but still, he wouldn't be satisfied until she opened her eyes and he could verify that the Hollow's influence was gone for good.
His senses were on high alert. The house was filled with supernaturals and his magic prickled with anticipation. He knocked once before pushing the door open. He did not have the patience to wait.
His breath caught in his throat at the sight that greeted him.
Drusilla laid on the bed, pale and unmoving. She looked like she was dead.
Daniel's stomach filled with dread.
Vincent was dozing off in a chair right next to the bed. He had covered Drusilla with a blanket before sitting vigil by her side. His eyes snapped open when Daniel stepped inside the room. "How are you feeling?" he found himself asking the other witch.
"Like I've been choked." Daniel approached slowly before carefully sitting on the bed. He touched his sister's forehead tenderly. "Did it work?" He had been told but he needed to double check.
"Yes," Vincent responded. "You and Drusilla are now linked." He stared at the unconscious witch before continuing. "Elijah fed her his blood; it helped healed her injuries. I have no doubt that having been linked to Klaus even temporarily also helped her body regain some strength."
Daniel nodded. As much as he hated to admit it himself, the Hollow's plan to link Drusilla to the Original Hybrid was brilliant. "Her soul?" he asked in a rather shaky voice. He did not dare to look at Vincent.
"Freya managed to complete the spell to preserve her soul."
Daniel let out a shaky breath and clutched Drusilla's hand in his.
"Your sister is very strong."
"Yes, she is." Dru was one of the strongest, most stubborn people he knew. Just like their mother. The thought of his mother, had Daniel's heart breaking. The sadness and the guilt that invaded him had him almost choking again. He wanted to scream and cry. They would never be able to recover from this. He and Drusilla would carry the scars for the rest of their lives. They would never be able to forgive themselves for what they had done. "When will she wake up?" he wondered. He could not let his grief consume him, not yet. Drusilla needed him. He needed to focus on that for now.
"She is exhausted, physically and magically."
"I thought she died," Daniel's voice shook. He kept his eyes on his sister. "When she fell…" he had never felt such desperation as he did in that moment when he thought all was lost.
"She did," Vincent confirmed.
Daniel's head snapped in his direction.
"I do think her heart stopped for a bit just as I completed the linking spell." Everything had happened so fast. "The Hollow decided to leave her body but I was able to still link you together. Afterwards, when it attacked you and I was able to heal you, I felt your sister in you. You were linked. Me healing you, helped her too."
"Thank-you," Daniel said sincerely. "For saving me, for helping us both."
Vincent nodded. "I did what I could," he muttered. "Bonnie Bennett is the one that did the most. Without her, all would be lost."
"How is she?" Daniel wondered. He had heard hushed whispers between the Mikaelson siblings. Two more had arrived with the town's Sherriff and while Freya had been incredibly happy at their reunion, there was a lingering fear underneath. As the hours ticked by, it only grew stronger. For Bonnie had yet to wake up.
"Magically exhausted as well," Vincent responded.
Who would have thought that his sister and the Bennett witch would end up in similar circumstances. He hoped for everyone's sake that they would both wake up soon. "You should get some rest," Daniel saw how tired Vincent was. "I will stay with her."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes." Daniel would not leave his sister's side. I will be right here when you wake up, Dru. He swore. You must wake up, please.
Bonnie floated in an endless sea.
There was no pain or fear.
No voices.
No dreams either.
It was familiar and yet different.
She felt like she had been here before.
Once upon a time she had been here, waiting in the nothingness, falling into a dormant state until there was a spark that jolted her awake.
Klaus
His lips on her skin.
His voice, his scent, his arms wrapped tightly around her.
Hope
Her eyes, her smile, the tender moments they shared at the sanctuary.
They all flashed across Bonnie's mind.
Thinking of Klaus and Hope had her entire body buzzing with energy. She needed to make sure they were okay. She needed to be with them.
I don't want to be in this darkness, Bonnie thought. She had already spent nearly a decade in darkness with only her dreams for company. I don't want to be here, she thought trying desperately to feel her body, to move, to open her eyes.
Klaus and Hope needed her. She wanted to be with them.
I belong with them. Please don't take me again.
I don't want to dream again.
I want to live.
I want to wake up.
Slowly, very slowly Bonnie regained consciousness. A soft groan escaped her lips as she pushed through the darkness that threatened to chain her in another coma. Her body felt heavy. She felt really thirsty too.
"Bonnie," Klaus's accented voice reached her ears.
I'm awake, Bonnie felt relieved upon hearing his voice. She had come back from that abyss once more. Her eyes blinked open slowly. She was in their bedroom at the safe house in Mystic Falls-that much she knew right away. There was a small body curled up against her side.
Hope
The little girl was snuggled against her and Bonnie smiled feeling her familiar weight.
The bed dipped as Klaus came to sit beside her.
Bonnie immediately noticed how relieved he looked. "Hi," she whispered groggily. Her own voice sounded strange to her ears. She cleared her throat.
"Hello love." His fingers shook as he cupped her cheek tenderly. He closed his eyes briefly, feeling the flesh heat under his touch. "I was seriously considering kissing you."
"You should have, maybe I would have woken up sooner," Bonnie teased.
Klaus's lips twitched.
"Why didn't you?"
"I was terrified it would not work again." He traced the outline of her cheek before slowly moving down her lips.
Bonnie's mouth parted and she placed a soft kiss on his fingertips.
They shared a smile before Bonnie glanced down at Hope who continued to sleep by her side.
"She refused to leave your side," Klaus informed her in a soft whisper. He had a wonderous look on his face. He was looking down at Bonnie with so much adoration, she felt her heart swell.
She never wanted him to stop looking at her like that. "How is she?" Bonnie asked softly, she did not want to wake Hope, the poor thing looked exhausted.
"She's fine," Klaus was quick to assure her. "She has been through a lot. She was scared when you didn't wake up but she will be alright. She is a warrior."
"Just like her dad." Bonnie sat up slowly, careful not to disturb a sleeping Hope. Klaus helped her with the pillows and she leaned back against the headboard. She licked her lips when she spotted a couple of bottles of water on the nightstand. She was parched.
She didn't even have to tell Klaus; one look and he knew. He got her a bottle right away. "Here."
"Thanks." She took the bottle from him and drank all of it greedily. It felt good.
"How are you feeling?" Klaus asked as he regarded her carefully.
"Tired but good," Bonnie responded as she placed the empty bottle on the nightstand. "How is everyone else?" She had no idea how long she had been out. It could not have been that long though; Klaus was still wearing the same clothes and so was Hope. Bonnie glanced down at her own clothes. She was covered in ash and a strange smell clung to her skin. She also had dried blood on her neck. She made a face. "Drusilla did she-"
"She's alive, linked to her brother for now." Klaus responded. He glanced at Hope's sleeping form. "All of the Crescent wolves that came with Mary are dead. Some of the wolves from Ansel's pack too and most of the vampires that Marcel brought."
Bonnie winced at the news. "Matt, do you know if he-"
"He's fine," Klaus assured her. "He came back to the house a few hours ago with Rebekah and Kol. Everyone is working to clean up the town." He glanced at her bloodied clothes and the ash that clung to her hair. "That ash is scattered all over Mystic Falls, it is the only thing left of Inadu and her vicious forces." He gave her one of those intense looks that had butterflies taking flight in her stomach. "You completely obliterated her. You won."
"We won."
"No, love." Klaus shook his head. "We helped you but, in the end, it was just you and her and you won. Everyone is safe because of you."
Bonnie remembered the confrontation with Inadu and the exhilarating power of Expression as it met the power of the Hollow head on.
"You were magnificent, Bonnie." Klaus was in awe of her. "The way you fought, the way you protected all of us. I have never seen anything like it."
"I had to tap into Expression," Bonnie admitted in a whisper. "I didn't even think it was still in me. I guess it was dormant since I fell into a coma. I was desperate. She broke the link to the Bennett line and I knew then that only another dark power could be a match for her. It was a gamble but it paid off."
Klaus nodded. "You fainted shortly after delivering the final blow-" his voice broke then. He was not one to let his emotions get the best of him but in that moment, he allowed himself to be vulnerable. In their room, he allowed the fear he felt to reflect in his face and voice. "You were so cold, your heart so weak…" he shook his head. He had to look away. "For a moment, I thought I might lose you and I-"
Bonnie reached out for his hand and linked their fingers together. "For a moment there, I thought I would fall into a coma again." She had been so exhausted after battling Inadu and then there was that familiar darkness that had consumed her. She came back though. This time she pulled through on her own. "I didn't though." She squeezed his finger. "I'm alive. I'm okay."
Klaus turned back to face her again. "You are."
"You gave me some of your blood, didn't you?" she could still taste some of his essence in her tongue. It lingered still. Even now as they sat there, she felt his blood mixing with hers, easing he aches and taking away the tiredness. His blood was still in her system, healing her.
Klaus nodded. "I could barely hear your heart. It was the only thing I knew could help you. We came back to the safe house shortly after. Freya examined you and said you needed to rest. That channeling all that power took a toll on your body."
"It makes sense." She had been in a similar situation before. No matter how powerful she was, no matter how glorious the power of Expression was, she was still human. Her body still had limitations. "Thank-you."
"I should be the one thank-you, sweetheart. You saved Hope, you saved my siblings, you defeated that damn spirit that hunted us for years-" he couldn't contain his emotions anymore. He leaned closer, one of his hands went behind her neck and pulled her face up with infinite tenderness. He touched his forehead to hers and playfully bumped her nose. "Thank-you, my love."
My love.
Bonnie's insides melted at his words. Everything she felt for him surged in that moment.
Klaus lowered his head and brushed his lips against her. He wanted to devour her mouth but he contained his most beastly impulses and kissed her gently instead. Bonnie needed to be adored. She needed to be cared for. There would be plenty of time later for more passionate encounters, for now he simply wanted to express all the adoration he felt for her. Bonnie kissed him back sweetly, touching the side of his face before moving her hands to his hair and tugging at it as she opened her mouth to him. Her fingers played with his hair as their tongues met in a dance they knew well.
They kissed and kissed, pouring all the feelings they had yet to articulate into their lips and tongue. Her heart was beating wildly against her chest and her body practically melted against him.
She had to pull away eventually in need of air. Her entire face was set aflame as she struggled to catch her breath while Klaus's lips curved into a satisfied smirk.
Their eyes held.
He leaned closer again, ready to plunder her mouth once more when-
"Bonnie!" Hope's excited voice cut through their lust. "You're awake!" She sat up immediately, eyes wide, and a happy smile adorning her lips.
Despite the interruption, Klaus couldn't help but smile. Long gone was the sad and worried little girl that had stayed vigil by Bonnie's side. Hope was back to her cheerful self.
"Hi!" Bonnie greeted her.
Hope threw her arms around Bonnie hugging her so tightly that Bonnie nearly lost her breath but she held the little girl to her chest, returning her hug with fierceness. She met Klaus's eyes over Hope's arms and beamed at him. The look he gave her in return was the most beautiful thing Bonnie had ever seen.
"I was so scared, Bonnie." Hope pulled away and looked into her eyes. "You fainted and you were so cold and didn't drink Daddy's blood at first and then you weren't waking up, and-"
"Breathe, sweetheart." Klaus placed a hand on her shoulder.
Hope took a big gulp of air. "Oh Bonnie! You did it!" Now that Bonnie was awake all the restraint and patience Hope had showed evaporated as she was finally able to express how happy she felt. "She's gone. You kicked her ass!" She bounced with joy. "Our family is together at last. Thanks to you!"
Bonnie smiled at Hope, completely charmed by her enthusiasm. "You were amazing too." She had held her own too. Hope had used her magic brilliantly and had faced the hollow fiercely too.
Hope hugged her again. "I'm so glad it's over," she whispered against Bonnie's neck. "I'm so happy you're okay and that we are together." She pulled away and grinned at her father. She reached for his hand and also took Bonnie's hand in hers.
"Me too." Bonnie agreed as she and Klaus held hands with Hope. This is how things are meant to be, Bonnie thought. Being with Hope and Klaus was the only thing she wanted. This was her future, Bonnie realized. This was what she wanted the rest of her life to be like; with the two of them by her side and judging by the look on Klaus's face, he felt the same.
The three of them wanted the same thing.
The three of them wanted to be a family.
Hope wiggled herself in between Bonnie and Klaus. She continued to held their hands as she snuggled between them. "I want us to be together always," she told them softly. She looked at her father before staring at Bonnie. "You, Daddy, and me. I want us to be a family." She squeezed their hands. The three of them linked forever. "Would you like that too?" she asked almost shyly.
"Yes," Bonnie smiled down at her. "I would like that very much," she murmured while holding Klaus's gaze.
The hybrid smiled. "You know what?" he leaned down a bit, so he could whisper in Hope's ear.
"What?" Hope whispered back.
"We are a family," Klaus stated. "You, Bonnie, and me." He lifted his chin and stared right into Bonnie's eyes which were glistening with tears. "We will be together always and forever." It was a promise.
Hope smiled brightly at her father's words.
Bonnie's heart stuttered. She was incredibly touched by his words and what they meant to her, to Hope, to them. This was exactly what she wanted. Her face broke into a joyous smile. However, the next words that came out Klaus' lips had her melting completely.
"I want forever with you, Bonnie." Klaus confessed as he leaned closer, over the top of Hope's head.
A single tear slid down Bonnie's cheek. "Me too," she found herself whispering as she also leaned forward. Their lips met in a sweet although chaste kiss as Hope was still between them beaming like crazy. They pulled apart with matching grins on their faces. Bonnie felt like she could touch the sky. She had never felt so happy. Forever with Klaus and Hope sounded positively wonderful.
"It's time to get married!" Hope proclaimed cheerfully.
Klaus and Bonnie laughed.
Hope was still on a mission to see them wed.
Not a single word of protest was uttered from their lips though.
AN: I was going to include Bonnie meeting with all the Mikalesons but it would have made this chapter way too long so it's going in the next one. I really love this fic and I plan to finish it. Thank-you so much! :)
