Chapter 4 - Saving Each Other

As the thick earth spike slowly pulled itself out of Natsu's chest, Natsu slowly crashed onto the beach pier. Erza's eyes widened in shock and astonishment as she ran toward Natsu's limp body. "Natsu, please!" She shook his body, and tears couldn't stop falling from her eyes. "NATSU! PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME! I LOVE YOU!" Erza screamed into Natsu's chest as she cried out in anguish. She continued when Natsu answered her; she could hear his slow, labored breathing as his heartbeat began to slow. "Natsu..."

"BWAHAHAHA!" Erza lifted her head toward the source of that wicked laughter. She gritted her teeth and furrowed her brow in total anger as she saw Jacque slowly standing with significant burns littering his massive hairy arms. "I wanted to kill you both in one swift chop, but that damn fire bastard seemed to save you, but it looks like he wasn't able to save himself!" Jacque clapped his hands before rubbing his face. "What? Was he trying to prove something?! He wanted to look cool to his girlfriend before he kicked the bucket! Or should I say, take the spear!" Jacque smirked devilishly as he knelt before quickly running toward Erza. "You won't get a second chance! You'll die with this attack, armored bitch! Stone Devil's Boulder Fist!" As Jacque ran toward Erza with his left fist covered in thick, hardened earth, he smiled as he thrust the fist toward her. "NOW DIE!" Just as Jacque entered Erza's space, he was suddenly thrown back into a nearby tree, splintering it as he landed. He groaned as he slowly stood up, and his eyes widened as he realized that he was covered in water. "What the hell...?"

"You bastard..." Jacque's eyes widened as he saw Erza standing before Natsu's body. Her face was stained with tears; strangely enough, crimson reptilian scales enveloped her arms and face. Her scarlet strands started swaying as glowing turquoise water surrounded her. As she growled that insult, her teeth grew and developed into fangs. "I always try to find the good in people because nothing is worse than the loss of life... However, you, Jacque, have committed the greatest sin of all... You have killed my Malrak Itov, and you dare to belittle his sacrifice. Jacque, I promise you this...!" As Erza lifted her head toward the mercenary, her eyes glowed ominously and intimidatingly as her chocolate orbs changed into emerald animalistic slits. Erza stomped toward Jacque, and her armor began to melt and fall away. More and more crimson scales began to envelop her body. However, Erza didn't care. All she wanted was to make the ugly bastard in front of her pay, and she wanted blood.

Natsu chuckled as he placed his hands on his hips. "Seems like you've developed a sense of humor while dead, Zeref. I'm sure that you saw that my heart had been pierced through. No one could survive that, not a human, demon, or dragon. So tell me, what makes you think that I'm not dead? Because I have this gaping hole..." Natsu's eyes widened as he looked down at his chest; there was no gaping hole in it. "What the hell?! How don't I have a hole in my chest?!"

"You're right, Natsu." The Fire Dragonslayer turned his head to a redheaded woman who looked strikingly similar to Erza. As they calmed down from chuckling, they walked toward the Fire Dragonslayer. Irene softly gripped Natsu's hands, and she smiled. "Natsu, you may act like you're underserving of it, but you can't dispute it. If your fiancee's mother sees all you do for her and is willing to talk good of you, that is something to be proud of!"

Natsu then turned to both Zeref and Irene, yelling while looking distraught.
