Chapter 5: A Ghostly Surprise

"Thank goodness we're safe, but this chainsaw needs to be stopped. Maybe if we drop something on it, the heavy object will stop the chainsaw," Ryder suggested as he looked around for a solution.

"Hopefully without getting ripped apart! Hmmm." Rocky agreed, as he too looked for anything they could drop onto the chainsaw. After a minute of looking, Rocky spotted an old engine on a shelf above them.

"Aha! Perfect!" Rocky exclaimed happily. Seeing a rope that was hanging near, Rocky looked closer, and saw the other end was tied around the engine he had spotted.

"Ryder, help me with this. We can drop this old engine onto the chainsaw!" Rocky explained loudly. Ryder nodded before they both grabbed the rope; Ryder with his hands, and Rocky with his mouth. They carefully pulled the rope, lifting the engine off the shelf. The two friends walked to the side, as they tried to position the engine above the out of control chainsaw.

"Now!" Ryder said as he nodded to the mixed breed. Rocky nodded back before they let go of the rope, releasing the engine. CRASH! The old engine fell on top of the buzzing chainsaw, and with one final outburst of power, the chainsaw stopped. The engine was also destroyed from the impact.

"Phew! Well, I'll clean this up. You can go back upstairs," Ryder told Rocky with a smile.

"Wait a minute!" Rocky retorted cautiously. He walked over to the mangled mess of metal before barking out his screwdriver from his pup pack. The pup positioned his screwdriver into several holes of the wrecked chainsaw, before he barked the screwdriver back into his pup pack. Suddenly, the chainsaw broke into smaller pieces.

"There you go! No danger if the chainsaw is in pieces!" Rocky reasoned as he walked back to the boy. Ryder chuckled.

"Good thinking Rocky. We can find a different use for the chainsaw pieces. You may go now," Ryder answered, before petting the pup on the head. After receiving the pets, Rocky walked back into the elevator, and went up to the main floor. Upon reaching the main floor however, he heard noises.

"Hey! Watch it!"

"Help! Help! Get me outta here!"

"Where's the exit?! I can't see!"

"Where am I? Get me out!"

"I'm stuck! Ah! Ahhhh! Safe me!"

"What the heck?" Rocky asked himself, confused. The mixed breed walked over to the door he heard the noises from, only to become more confused. The noises were coming from the room he was making his Christmas tree parachute in.

"Oh boy..." Rocky said, a sense of dread coming over him, as his eyes widened. Apprehension filled the pup's stomach as he slowly opened the door. Once he looked inside, Rocky was greeted by five flailing, wandering, muffled yelling, dark green ghosts.

"Help! Help! I can't get out!" yelled the green ghost to the left of Rocky.

"I can't see! Get me outta here!" exclaimed the green ghost to the right of Rocky as it tried to escape.

"I'm stuck! Help! Ahhhh! I'm getting tangled!" the green ghost in the middle of the parachute cried out, thrashing around.

"Ahhhh! I'm trapped! Somebody help!" shouted the green ghost to the left of the middle one as it fumbled about.

"I'm stuck! Help! Ahhhhh!" yelled the green ghost to the right of the middle one, flailing about frantically.

Rocky watched the bizarre, spooky situation occur before him, feeling confused, concerned - for more than one reason, and slightly amused at the same time. Then again, ghosts in his Christmas tree parachute was the last thing he expected.

"What the pup treats IS GOING ON?!" Rocky exclaimed loudly, hoping to understand the ghostly situation, and keep it from getting worse. The five green ghosts stopped moving, and turned to him.

"Rocky?! Is that you? When did you get here?" one of the ghosts asked the mixed breed. Rocky was about to answer, when the voice sounded familiar.

"Wait ... Marshall? Is that you under there? Guys? Are all of you the ghosts? How did you all ..." Rocky asked, before giving the green parachute covered Marshall a deadpanned look. "You tripped and covered everyone up by accident, right Marshall?"

"Yes. Sorry," Marshall apologized despite looking like a green ghost. The five green ghosts giggled nervously, before playfully pretending to be ghosts. Rocky though, wasn't as amused.

"Looks like you guys could use some help. Stay still," Rocky said before carefully grabbing the parachute fabric in his mouth, and walking forwards. Eventually, after several minutes of untangling, spreading out the fabric, and confusing discussions, the rest of the pups were freed from the big, green parachute.

"Done. Why didn't you call me when you pups got stuck under here?" Rocky asked, turning to Chase.

"Well, you were busy with your basement project with Ryder, and with how loud the situation was, we didn't think you'd be available to help us," Chase explained calmly.

"Plus, we didn't think to call you. We thought we could get out ourselves!" Rubble added, causing the group to laugh.

"Well, you pups are lucky you didn't rip the fabric! Otherwise, I would've had to repair any damage. At least everyone and everything is safe!" Rocky commented, as he scanned the green parachute for any possible rips.

"We're sorry Rocky," the five pups apologized to their friend.

"I forgive you pups. It was an accident after all," Rocky replied. Chase, Rubble, Zuma, Skye, and Marshall all smiled before exiting the room. However, just as Chase was walking out, he turned back to Rocky with a suspicious look.

"I do have a question though; what was that crash we heard earlier?" the German Shephard asked.

"Oh, I accidentally turned on a chainsaw in the basement, and it wouldn't turn off. Ryder and I had to drop an old engine on top of it, so the chainsaw would stop. I even disassembled it into pieces to be extra safe!" Rocky replied with a nervous smile. "Good news is none of us were hurt,"

Chase sighed with relief before shaking his head slowly, and walked out before closing the door. Rocky still managed to hear Chase though as his friend walked off.

"Why would Ryder keep a chainsaw? Those things can be dangerous..."
