Hello all. It's been a very long time, hasn't it? Twelve years to be exact, and I only had two chapters put out. I know I only had two reviews, but every review counts, y'know?
I didn't mean to abandon this story for over a decade, but real life happened. And as much as I hate to say it, but I was significantly unhappy with what I had started with and simply... Abandoned it. Shame on me, ugh. Don't start something you can't finish. But truly, I was unhappy with the start.
Cut to a much older, more experienced version of me. Over the years, I've slowly been making notes and changes to what I was planning on writing, and I think I have enough to start re-writing the story.
First things first... I'm changing the title. For some reason, "Dragon Tongue" just doesn't feel good with me. So, I'm changing it to be "Dragon Mage". It feels more suitable since the Dragon Mages were able to use the magic powers of Dragons without having to BE dragons. As far as them being the only ones able to understand the speech of dragons, I've nixed that aspect. Anybody can understand the speech of dragons, but only Dragon Mages can utilize their magic.
Second, Dragon Mages are no longer going to just be "humans". Creatures from centaurs, fauns, fairies, nymphs, etc. They were all able to be Dragon Mages because of their chosen bloodlines. However, the one thing that WON'T be changing is the fact that Dragon Mages are all females. I like strong female characters, and we have so many strong male characters that are the center of their stories.
Third, name and age changes. I don't know what I was thinking when it came to my main character's name... Lily? Really? Ugh, I hate thinking of it even now. I've changed her name to Kaida, and she celebrates her thirteenth birthday at the start of the re-written story. Thirteen years old is when the innate magical abilities of Dragon Mages awaken, and the reason why I aged her down is I kind of wanted this to be a "coming of age" story. I've also done away with her family (whomp whomp) but she has been raised by her village chief. She still has her pampered princess of a friend, but she's also getting a name change; Emilie will be her name. Look up what their names mean for some fun Easter eggs/foreshadowing! Spyro himself is a young adult along with Sparx, and Ripto is roughly 200 years old, though Riptocs age slowly; he's considered pretty young for a Riptoc.
As far as when/where the story takes place... I'm only using the Spyro Trilogy and a few elements from that mistake we call, "Enter the Dragonfly". Sorry guys, I grew up with the original trilogy and "Enter the Dragonfly". I never got into "A Heroes Tale" or "Skylanders". There will be nothing from "The Legend of Spyro" series. So, no Cynder, Ember, Malefor, etc.

Not going to lie, Ripto is my favorite of the Spyro villains. I'm changing a few elements about him in the story. The main one? He's not a goofball or funny. He's quite serious and dangerous in my story. A remarkably powerful sorcerer, having two centuries of magical knowledge in comparison to Kaida. He commands an army of Riptocs and they will obey him without any question. Gulp and Crush run the army of Ripto, with Crush being the General and Gulp being the Colonel. In "Attack of the Rhynocs", Ripto is seen to be living at "Chateau Ripto". He still has this chateau, but it isn't goofy or cartoony looking like it does in the game; it's intimidating and massive in size, complete with dungeons, torture chambers, etc.

Still working on more notes and such for when I get writing again, but if you guys have questions, feel free to shoot me a question. I work and such, so I'll update whenever I can.
