Chapter 1: PROLOGUE
Cold droplets of rain ran down his pale skin; he would never admit that those droplets weren't rain but tears. He knew not to show weakness but there wasn't a soul on this roof, he was all alone, where? He didn't know yet. But he knew that he had lost everything, and then there was this hot liquid that ran against his skin. Was it the rain? No, the rain was cold. Then was it blood? Most possible.
His hold on his skateboard tightened as more tears came out. He decided to take off his backpack and throw it on the other side of the roof, then he fell backward, lying down facing the cloudy dark sky of... Wherever he was... Watching as the rain fell and with it, his own tears. He brought his hand over his face, in order to hide it and took a deep breath. He knew if he didn't get treatment for his wounds soon, he would die but then again, he didn't have the strength to care, or rather he didn't want to live anymore.
"Why would you do it Alluka? Why?" He whispered to himself. "I just want this to end, I don't care anymore. I've lost everything." His vision became blurry and not because of his tears but because of his wounds. He was losing too much blood and all the training in the world wouldn't be able to prevent his consciousness from fading away. But before he blacked out, he heard footsteps running on the wet rooftops and jumping, finally stopping beside him, and then cold darkness consumed his very existence. Was he dead? Maybe, but he doubted it. After all, he could feel hands holding him, carrying him away to who knows where. There were also voices, hard to distinguish, but they were there.
How did this happen you may ask? Killua himself wasn't sure about the answer. What started as a usual day for two runaway kids ended up going completely wrong.
They woke up in their hotel, packed their stuff to leave. They'd been staying in the hotel for too long and their family, the Zoldycks, would soon find them. Then there was their meeting with Killua's friends. Gon had found an important clue about his father and asked all of them to be there with him, in case he finally managed to find Ging. They left on the brink of sunrise, before any of the hotel's occupants or even most of its staff woke up.
They ran for hours in the forest. It would take them about two days to reach their meeting point with Gon and the others, and Killua couldn't risk using his Godspeed. He wanted to conserve as much energy as possible in case something went wrong.
That's when he felt it. This immense killing intent, he recognized it as his brother Illumi's. He knew what that meant, it meant his family stopped playing around and started taking things seriously, otherwise, his brother would never reveal himself.
Illumi dropped off the tree in front of them. He could feel Alluka's hold on his hand tighten.
"Playtime is over Killua, it's time to come back home." Killua gritted his teeth in rage, but also in fear. He tried to activate his Godspeed but realized that something was blocking his Nen.
"Alluka, get ready to run." He whispered to his little sister and gave her his skateboard so he could fight, even though he knew he wouldn't be able to beat Illumi. He raised his hands in a fighting position and got ready to lunge forward.
"Killua, if I have to hurt you to get you to come back to us, I will." He lunged forward and prepared to kick his older brother in the face. Illumi countered with his own kick which was more powerful, resulting in three of his ribs on his right side breaking. He didn't show any signs of pain and once he landed on his feet, he lunged towards Illumi once again, only to stop in order to catch three throwing knives but got stabbed in his shoulder by another knife that was concealed with Nen energy, making it invisible. Once again, he ignored the pain and moved in an unpredictable way to make things harder for the knife thrower. He got close to Illumi and used his electricity to cover his body as he tried to land a hit on his brother. Even if he got blocked, his electricity would land a hit. Due to something blocking most of his Nen power though, the electricity itself was weak compared to its normal state, and his brother was a master assassin, so he dodged every one of Killua's attacks. Even when he used his yo-yos, Illumi was able to dodge most of them. The knife thrower threw another set of knives and this time Killua dodged every single one of them until he was stabbed from the opposite direction of the knife thrower. It was a rare case for Illumi to use knives, but it was his second favorite after his needles, of course.
"Killua, that's enough." He heard his father's deep voice. Three of his family's butlers made their appearance. He recognized two of them: Gotoh, one of their most trusted butlers whom he was his previous caretaker, and Kasuga. The third he didn't recognize; she was a woman with dark short hair, she kept half of her face hidden under a mask and had knives tied at her side.
Gotoh kept a laptop in his hands which showed Silva's strict posture, his face as always was unreadable, blank of any emotion.
"We are not coming back," Killua said, taking a few steps back, blocking their view from Alluka.
"Big brother." She said, gaining his attention. She gave him his skateboard, then said in a low voice, one that only he could hear, "Nanika, I wish for you to take big brother Killua as far away from our family as possible and to banish him from this world forever so he can remain safe." As she said that, Nanika took over, and her body started to become dust in the air. In order to make Alluka's wish come true, she had to make a sacrifice, that sacrifice was her life.
"Big brother Killua, please remain safe for Alluka and Nanika," Nanika said as her body became dust. Killua took hold of her hand, trying to keep her with him.
"What the hell did you do?" He said, feeling his own voice breaking. And just like Nanika, his body started turning to dust. Illumi got closer to them and tried to reach for Killua's hand, only for it to become dust and disappear.
Then cold rain and darkness consumed his surroundings. He lost all the strength in his legs and fell down on his knees, his hold on his skateboard tightening, and tears came in waves. Then nothing, only cold darkness.
