Legacy of the Force
Chapter One: Saving The Duchess
Disclaimer: Usual BS. I don't own SW, Disney and Lucasfilm do.
Hello, Hello, fellow SW fan. After being away in other fandoms, it is good to be back at my roots, and better able to properly write a fic. The oneshot I am not counting as that was for a fic exchange.
Yes, the title of this fic is intentional, though we are going to focus on Mandalore for a little bit. We begin during the episode the Lawless when Obi-Wan shows up to save Satine and go from there. I will be mixing Legends and New Canon as that is how my brain works.
I hope you enjoy and come along for the ride.
A single decision can change the course of history.
Mandalore
Bo-Katan stood on a platform overlooking the docks, preparing her next move when she saw the rust bucket ship come in for a landing. She saw a figure come out of the ship and have some trouble with the ramp. Her curiosity was peaked as she saw both helmeted individuals, the newcomer and the Super Commando walk into the ship, and only one came back out. The Loyalist to her left took aim at the red armored individual, but Bo stayed their shot. She had seen just enough of the person's face to realize that it was the Jedi friend her sister tried to contact. 'Obi-Wan Kenobi, hope you are as good as they say,' she thought. Despite having a distaste for the Jedi Order due to their role as enemies of the Warriors of the Mandalore, as well as Kenobi personally for Death Watch's exile from Concordia, she had to admit that they sort of needed his help right now.
Turning to one of her loyalists, "Ursa, follow the Jedi. Don't get seen, contact me when he has the Duchess or if there are any complications."
"Yes, my lady," Ursa said, activating her Jetpack to follow Kenobi. Bo and the other loyalists took off to pursue another objective.
Obi-Wan boarded a flat speeder and headed for the Royal prison. The Royal prisons were located in the top of the Bio-Dome that encased the capital city of Sundari.
Open reaching the prisons, Obi-Wan moved like he belonged and did not speak to anyone so as not to draw attention to the fact that he was there. He managed to find an unlocked terminal that that he could access to find Satine. Fortunately, it was a quick find for the Jedi Master. Quickly erasing any information that could indicate that someone was not as they seemed, Kenobi snuck around the prison until he located the right cell.
Obi-Wan hit the release on the cell door, and it slid open. "Come to do more of your master's bidding," was the snide, defeated question that came at him.
Pulling off his helmet, "I do my own bidding," he corrected her.
Satine's eyes opened wide in joy. "Obi-Wan!" She stood and threw herself against him. Obi-Wan was unsure what to do, and let her lean on him a sec before pushing her back. "Are you alone?"
"Yes, the Jedi Council and Republic will be of no use to us here." He checked to make sure the coast was clear and then took Satine's hand and led her to a turbo lift.
"I suppose you have an escape plan then?" She asked the Jedi Master as he put the helmet back on to sell the disguise.
"As always, my dear," his voice was distorted a bit by the helmet. The lift stopped and opened. Not according to plan was that there already was an occupant of the lift. Obi-Wan pushed Satine into the lift and entered after her, standing between her and the other Super Commando. Satine wisely stood silent and head bowed in shame to help sell the ruse.
After the lift moved down a few floors, the ruse nearly came undone. "There is no record of a prisoner transfer here," the Commando questioned.
"The orders came from upstairs," Obi-Wan said, unsure how to play this.
"What's the authorization code?" The Commando questioned. The jig was up, and they knew it.
Obi-Wan knocked the soldier out and his body hit the floor as the lift reached its destination. Both of them creeped on the platform to a speeder, trying to avoid detection, but it was of no use. As they got on, another commando came out and saw them, "Hey you, stop!" They took off as fast as they could.
"It's the Duchess, she's getting away," the commando said into his wrist comlink, before being shot by Ursa Wren.
"Blast it, Aruetii," Ursa called them a traitor in the old tongue, then opened her comms. "Lady Bo-Katan, The Jedi has the Duchess and is heading for the docks, but they are being pursued by traitors." Ursa traded shots with several of them.
"I'm on my way, get out of there Ursa. I am not losing you too today," Bo-Katan's voice came back. Ursa knew better than to protest, also she had her own reasons to live today. Firing a few more shots, Ursa was able to slip away, the same way she had come.
With the Je3di and Duchess
As they flew, Obi-Wan could sense that they were being followed, which was to be expected as they had been caught, but the Force was telling Kenobi that something else was wrong here, but he couldn't place what exactly. He did not have the time to listen to what the Force was telling as he thought it was warning him about the Super Commandos that were chasing them. However, something worse was following them.
Managing to reach the landing pad with the Twilight on it, the two of them disembarked as they saw their pursuers coming up on them, with laser bolts whizzing by them. Both of them made a run for the ship's ramp with blaster fire all around them. Obi-Wan briefly turned around to fight, one blaster in hand, he squeezed off a shot with the uncivilized weapon.
The blaster bolt hit a Commando dead in the chest, killing them, as reinforcements came in on their jetpacks. As Satine boarded, Obi-Wan fired several more shots before getting on the ship and closing the ramp.
In the cockpit, Obi-Wan had to take a sec to find the laser cannon controls, he had to slam his fist on it when it didn't work the first time. The guns came to life and sprayed a hail of blue laser fire into the enemy forces as another speeder came to land on the edge of the platform.
Two Zabraks, one red and black tattooed and the other was yellow and black tattooed. Maul and Savage had come. Maul's yellow eyes looked upon the scene in interest at Kenobi's plan.
As laser blasts hammered the viewport, Satine had an idea. "We have to contact my sister for help. She'll send reinforcements."
In the time that Kenobi knew the Duchess, she never once mentioned that she had a sister. "Who's your sister?" he asked as he managed to get the engines fired and the ship began to rise into the air.
Maul frowned and walked up a hall of crates and gave a slight nod of his head to two of his men. Both of them fired the rockets in their jetpacks, which collided with the Twilight, taking out the wing engines, sending it into a downward tail spin.
"Brace yourself," Kenobi told Satine. Maul watched with mild satisfation at this event. "Let's get out of here," Obi-Wan decided, grabbing his jedi weapon on his way.
Opening the ramp to jump, Satine was thrown from the hold, Obi-Wan caught her by the hand while he was holding a support strut. He held on long enough for the ship to spin them back toward the landing pad. He let go a moment before an explosion ripped through the ship's hold. Both went rolling a bit when they landed. Both looked up briefly to see the Twilight's final explosion, sending pieces of burning metal everywhere. A piece of debris landed on top of Satine. Fortunately, only pinning her and nothing more. Obi-Wan used the Force to lift the debris off of her.
His vision a bit blurred from the smoking wreckage of the Twilight. 'Anakin is not going to be happy.' Through the smoke, he saw what the Force was trying to warn him about, Maul was here. "No, it can't be." How does he keep running into these two? He struggled to his feet, and activated his lightsaber.
Maul easily overpowered the Jedi Master, lifting him in a Force Grip and pulled him to Maul's open hand, which grabbed his mortal foe at the throat. The other hand gripped Obi-Wan's wrist, making him drop his lightsaber. It hit the deck with an audible clang sound.
"We meet again, Kenobi. Welcome to my world," Maul said as he lifted Kenobi by the neck. Savage picked up the unconscious Satine over his shoulder, as he had knocked her out before doing so. Maul tossed Kenobi to two of his men. "Take them back to the palace." Maul's yellow eyes glinted with dark glee to them, and they all headed back to the royal palace.
At the Palace
Maul sat in the throne with Savage at his right hand, with Prime Minister Almec to his left and Satine on her knees between Almec and the throne. Two Super Commandos stood at the foot of the stairs. Two more stood holding Obi-Wan back. "Your noble flaw is a weakness shared by you…" Maul lifted Satine up in a Force Choke, who started clwing at her own throat trying to breathe. "And your Duchess." Maul stood up, his hand still raised to choke Satine. "You should have chosen the Dark Side, Master Jedi." He began to walk down the steps toward Kenobi. "Your emotions betray you. Your fear and yes, your anger." Obi-Wan had to center himself in the Force as he knew Maul was trying to get him to turn to the Dark Side. "Let your anger deepen your hatred."
"Don't listen to him, Obi-" Satine choked out. Despite the situation, she did not want him to comprise who he was for her sake.
"Quiet," Savage growled at her.
"You can kill me, but you will never destroy me. It takes strength to resist the Dark Side." Ever the paragon of light, looking up at the Sith to make his next point sting. "Only the weak embrace it."
"It is more powerful than you know." Now were they to debate their views on the Force?
"And those who oppose it are more powerful than you'll ever be." The Dark Side granted strength, yes, but of a self-destructive sort. Quick and done. The Light is a slower, but more beneficial form of strength to is practitioners. In a moment of trying to get through to the Sith Lord that killed his master, he brought up his past, as well as to try to unnerve him a bit. "I've been to your village. I know the decision to the join the Dark Side wasn't yours. The Nightsisters made it for you."
"Silence!" Obi-Wan definitely struck a nerve with Maul. "You think you know me? It was I who languished for years, thinking of nothing, but you. Nothing, but this moment." Satine was still clutching at her throat, it was getting really hard to fight it for her. "And now the perfect tool for my vengeance is in front of us. I never planned on killing you, but I will make you share my pain, Kenobi!"
With Bo-Katan
Having got the call from Ursa about Satine and Kenobi's escape and pursuit, Bo and her forces that she could gather, started toward the landing pad. She did not get there in time, and saw the flaming wreck of the Twilight go down in the distance and a bolt of fear went into her heart. 'No, no, no.' Arriving at the pad, but being detected, she saw Maul and Savage take Satine and Kenobi back to the palace. She breathed a sigh of relief that her sister was still alive. Without a word, and but a few simple hand motioned, she directed her men to follow the traitors to the palace.
They followed the speeder at a good distance so as not be seen or detected. Maul and Savage were thankfully to busy with Kenobi and Satine to have their senses out for her. As they flew, Ursa met back up with Bo-Katan. "What's the plan, boss?"
"Rescue my sister and the Jedi, then come up with a plan to deal with the Sith." Bo-Katan did not have a more solid idea than that right now. When the speeder landed at the palace, Bo and her forces landed on a nearby roof top, with the perfect angle that Bo could see everything important in the throne room, mainly Satine and Obi-Wan. Her forces held tight while she thought of a plan that would not get them all killed. However, her planning time got cut short.
Upon seeing Maul lift Satine up in a Force Choke, Bo-Katan without a word to her forces, activated her jetpack. Her followers took a cue and followed her. 'I won't let you kill her, you dar'jetti aruetti (Sith outsider)' The old tongue was finding its way back into fashion today.
"I never planned on killing you, but I will make you share my pain, Kenobi!" The two Super Commandos restraining Kenobi kicked out his knees and held him down while one held their blaster at his back. Maul activated the Darksaber. At that moment, Bo-Katan's forces came crashing in through the windows behind the throne, firing their blasters at Maul's Death Watch forces. A blaster bolt from Bo-Katan's blasters struck Maul in the hand that was holding the Darksaber, causing him to drop the weapon. Same hand that Pre Viszla shot Maul's red blade from the other day. The unexpected move distracted Maul enough to break his concentration on his Force choke, and drawing his single saber to defend against the aerial attacks. Satine dropped back to the floor of her throne room gasping for breath. Bo-Katan landed next to her sister. "Excellent timing, Bo," Satine said as she found her breath.
The distraction allowed Obi-Wan to Force Push the two Mandalorians holding on to him. Getting to his feet, he grabbed a blaster and joined the fray.
"Kenobi, catch" Bo-Katan tossed Obi-Wan his lightsaber, having been handed it by one of her troops. They had picked it up from the Super Commando that had it. Dropping the blaster for his more civilized weapon, Obi-Wan engaged the two brothers in a duel.
Fortunately for Obi-Wan, several of Bo-Katan's forces were firing their blasters on the Sith, keeping them distracted, to make up for the lack of another trained Force user.
Noticing where the legendary weapon had fallen, Bo-Katan used her whip cord and picked up the Darksaber. Grabbing her sister by the waist, "Kenobi, we're leaving." She activated her jetpack and took off through the broken window, getting Satine to safety. Obi-Wan had to borrow a dead Super Commando's jetpack to get out of there as well. Nite Owls used thermal detonators to cover the retreat.
Maul yelled in rage at Kenobi getting away from him. He took a look around at the survivors of his own detachment. "Find them, and bring them back here." His loyalists took off to find them.
Hope you guys enjoyed that first chapter and are looking forward to more, cause I am excited to tell this tale. The inspiration behinf this was that when I was rewatching this episode of TCW for this fic, it came to me that Bo-Katan does nothing when Obi-Wan shows up, aside from watching him, until she goes and rescues him from the prisons. Like seriously, where were you when Satine was murdered.
Anyway, this is going to be a fun time. Follow me, and we will go places.
The Emperor is out. Peace.
