Tatum sat cross-legged on Bonnie's living room floor, a pile of ancient grimoires spread out between them. The room smelled faintly of sage and wax from the candles flickering around them, casting dancing shadows on the walls.
Bonnie's expression was grim as she flipped through a thick, leather-bound book, her brow furrowed in concentration. Tatum shifted nervously, the tension in the room growing heavier by the second.
"Bonnie," Tatum said finally, her voice tentative. "What's going on? You've been quiet for over an hour."
Bonnie hesitated, then closed the grimoire with a heavy thud. She met Tatum's gaze, her eyes filled with worry.
"I found it," Bonnie said. "The truth about Klaus and why he's so interested in you."
The Revelation
Tatum's stomach twisted. "What truth?"
Bonnie sighed, pushing the grimoire toward her. "Klaus wants to sacrifice you, Tatum. He needs your magic to complete a ritual that will allow him to become a full hybrid—both vampire and werewolf."
The words hit Tatum like a punch to the gut. "Sacrifice me? That can't be right. Why me?"
"It's the Solas curse," Bonnie explained. "Your bloodline was tied to powerful magic—magic that was bound to the supernatural balance. If Klaus uses you, he can break his own curse and unlock his full potential. You're the key, Tatum."
Tatum shook her head, panic rising in her chest. "No. There has to be another way. A way to stop him."
Bonnie's expression darkened. "Stopping Klaus isn't easy. And if he's set his sights on you, he won't stop until he gets what he wants."
Damon's Reaction
The front door opened, and Damon strode into the room, his usual smirk fading when he saw their expressions.
"What's going on?" he asked, his tone sharp.
Bonnie stood, crossing her arms. "I found out why Klaus wants Tatum. He's planning to sacrifice her."
Damon's jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. "Over my dead body."
Tatum looked up at him, her voice trembling. "Damon, what am I supposed to do? How do I stop this?"
"You don't," Damon said firmly. "You get out of here. You leave Mystic Falls."
Tatum's eyes widened. "What? No, I can't just leave. What about you? Bonnie? Elena?"
"This isn't about us," Damon snapped. "It's about keeping you alive. If Klaus gets his hands on you, you're as good as dead. And I'm not letting that happen."
Alaric's Plan
Before Tatum could respond, Alaric appeared in the doorway, a backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked at the group, his expression serious.
"I heard," Alaric said. "And Damon's right. You need to leave. Klaus has too many eyes on Mystic Falls—it's not safe here anymore."
Tatum frowned. "Where would I even go?"
"I know a place," Alaric said. "A safe house in Kentucky. It's off the grid, far enough from here that Klaus won't find you right away. We can regroup there and figure out our next move."
Tatum hesitated, the thought of leaving everything she knew weighing heavily on her. "I don't want to run."
"You don't have a choice," Damon said, his voice softening. "This isn't just about you, Tatum. If Klaus gets to you, it'll destroy everyone who tries to stop him."
Tatum swallowed hard, tears stinging her eyes. "Okay. I'll go."
Packing Up
The next few hours were a blur. Tatum packed a small bag, her hands trembling as she shoved clothes and personal items into it. Bonnie hugged her tightly before she left, whispering promises to find a way to stop Klaus.
Damon and Alaric loaded supplies into Alaric's car, their movements quick and efficient. The tension was palpable, the weight of what they were about to do hanging over them like a storm cloud.
As Tatum climbed into the back seat, she glanced back at Mystic Falls, her heart breaking. She didn't know when—or if—she'd ever return.
On the Road
The car ride was silent at first, the hum of the engine the only sound. Tatum stared out the window, the familiar scenery of Mystic Falls fading into the distance.
Damon glanced at her in the rearview mirror, his voice softer than usual. "You're doing the right thing, Tatum. This isn't the end—it's just a detour."
Tatum managed a small, shaky smile. "It doesn't feel like it."
Alaric chimed in from the driver's seat. "It's not forever. Once we're safe, we'll figure out a way to deal with Klaus. But for now, staying alive is the priority."
Tatum nodded, the weight of their words settling over her. She didn't feel brave or strong—she felt scared and powerless. But as the miles stretched on, she resolved to survive, no matter what it took.
A New Beginning
As they crossed the state line into Kentucky, Tatum took a deep breath, her resolve hardening. Klaus might be chasing her, but she wouldn't let him win.
She had Damon, Alaric, and Bonnie on her side. And for now, that was enough.
