Chapter 1: The Mission

Argall IV was not the ideal place to live, but it was far from the worst. The descendants of the last of the righteous Saiyans who once lived on Sadala had lived here for a few generations. They faithfully guarded the old ways: preserving them for a future generation.

They represented the only chance at a future for their race, as their bloodthirsty relatives on Planet Vegeta were no more. Rumors as to why that was abounded, but many whispered that Frieza himself was responsible. Not that anyone on Argall IV much cared about that. No, they had much more pressing concerns: they were in need of a new homeworld.

King Argos sat nervously, tapping his foot and staring at the ceiling. "Are you certain?" he asked of his chief scientist, who had been monitoring the planet's core and seismic activity for some time.

"Yes," the man replied. "Our calculations put the danger of our planet detonating in a little over a year." King Argos sighed. They'd dealt with this same situation on three planets in the chain before this one. He stroked his beard and then spoke again. "And there's nothing that we can do to forestall this?" he asked.

"No," the scientist replied. "We need to find a new planet. And fast." "I know," Argos replied. "But these things take time." "I understand," the scientist said. "But time is a luxury that we do not have, my king."

"That is true," King Argos conceded. "But I have the perfect man for the job." "Will he accept?" the scientist replied. "Knowing Kalrot, he'll be here within the hour," Argos replied with a smile. His scientist nodded and moved to leave. "I'll be back later. Let me know when your man gets here."

"You'll be the first to know," Argos replied. The scientist nodded and departed. "We're in all kinds of trouble, aren't we….?" he thought, staring at the now-closed doorway. "I just hope that Kalrot will accept this mission…."

Elsewhere, Kalrot awoke, taking great care not to disturb his wife, who was still sleeping quite peacefully. "I wonder if I can find us another job…" he thought. Mercenary work was hard to come by sometimes.

He moved to get up, but found himself intercepted by his wife, who stirred. "Hey," she said. "Don't leave." Kalrot chuckled a bit. "Sorry, Rayna," he replied. "I was just gonna get up, since you were still asleep."

"Well, I'm awake now," she said. "And you didn't grant my request last night." "I fail to see where you're going with that," Kalrot replied. "I was exhausted. It wouldn't have been any fun." Rayna smirked a bit. "You aren't now," she said. "So get over here."

Kalrot moved closer to her, placing his arms around her. "So…" he began, "this better not end up making us parents." "We technically already are," she said. "You know what I mean. Those two are adopted," Kalrot replied. "Let's not have one of our own, just yet."

Rayna opened her mouth to reply, when there came a knock on the door. "Are you in there?" the voice on the other side asked. "Yeah. But we're not up yet!" Kalrot replied, recognizing the voice as Rutaba, Rayna's brother.

"Well, you better!" Rutaba said. "King Argos needs you for something." "Then give me a minute," Kalrot replied, sighing. He turned to Rayna, who seemed a bit annoyed. "Well, that was unfortunate timing," she said. Kalrot laughed a bit as he stood up. "Come on. We've got to get dressed. It wouldn't be too great to leave King Argos waiting."

Rayna nodded. "I know," she said. "I just really don't want to get up." Kalrot laughed again and headed over to search for his armor- something was going down if the king was asking for him, and not sending one of his own people.

Twenty minutes later…

Kalrot and Rayna arrived at the palace, and were promptly escorted to the king's throne room, where he awaited them."I need your help," King Argos began. "With what?" Kalrot asked. "Rebels? Pirates? An opposing military force?"

Argos sighed. "I wish it was that simple," he said. "But it is not." "What do you mean?" Kalrot asked. Argos sighed and decided to cut right to the chase. "My top scientists have informed me that an instability has been discovered in the planet's core. We have a year, give or take a few days, before it causes the core to rupture and destroy the planet."

"What do you want me to do?" Kalrot asked quizzically. "I need you to scout a new planet for us," King Argos answered. Kalrot nodded, but it was his wife who spoke. "Right, then. Do you have any ideas?" Rayna asked. "Yes," Argos replied. "We have a list of potential new settling sites. I'll have it forwarded to your ship, alongside the coordinates to each world." Rayna nodded, absorbing that information. "Do we know anything about these planets?" Kalrot asked.

"Unfortunately not," Argos replied. "Our intelligence on these worlds is rather sparse," he said. Kalrot nodded. "Don't worry about it. We can figure it out." Argos nodded. "This is why I like working with you. You're very good."

Kalrot nodded in acknowledgement, but said nothing, as Rayna spoke again. "We'll take care of this," she said. "But we need a little time to assemble our crew." Argos nodded. "Yes. Gather your teammates," he said. "And then you can depart."

"Yeah," Kalrot said. "You can count on us. We'll get this done." Argos nodded. "Hurry. We only have so much time to move everyone," he said. "I know. We won't let it get to that point." "Good. I will reward you handsomely," King Argos said. "Provided we all survive this."

Kalrot nodded with a chuckle, and then he and Rayna departed. Argos breathed a sigh of relief knowing that Kalrot was on the job. They'd have a new planet soon enough. "So," Kalrot began, "where would we find the others?" "Probably down at Spinaka's place. You know they hang out there," she said. Kalrot nodded. "Oh, right. Let's get moving," he said. "They're probably down there eating."

Rayna nodded, and they made their way towards the local restaurant. They made their way inside, hoping that they were all there. "Hey, there guys," the host said. "What's up, Maiz?" Kalrot replied. "Are my friends here?"

Maiz nodded. "Yeah. The usual spot. They just got here, actually," he said. "If you want to eat with them, go ahead. Dad won't care." Kalrot chuckled. "Nah. Spinaka makes entirely too much money off of me for him to be mad." Maiz laughed a bit. "True," he said. "Still, your friends are in the back room like usual."

Kalrot nodded. "Right. Tell your dad that we said hi," he said, moving to leave. "Right," Maiz said. "See you later." Kalrot again nodded, before he and Rayna headed to meet with their crew. They found said crew assembled around the table, seeming to be in a normal, cheerful mood, as usual. Rutaba soon noticed them as they approached. "Hey! You guys made it!" he said. Kalrot nodded. "Of course," he said. "Now, are you gonna let us in or what?" Rutaba nodded, sliding over enough for them to sit down. "Sorry about not waiting for you," he said. "But the boys were complaining about being hungry, and Cornalia was glaring at me like I'd insulted his mother."

Kalrot chuckled. "Sounds about right," he said, briefly glancing at his adopted children and then his friend. "So…first order of business. We eat, and then we get going." Rutaba nodded. "Why so urgent?" he asked. "We'll talk about it later," Kalrot replied. "It's sort of sensitive." Rutaba nodded. "Right. Then let's get moving," he said. "After we eat," Kalrot replied. Rutaba nodded quickly. "After we eat," he amended.

Kalrot smiled and pulled a thumbs up.

Rutaba nodded again, returning to the menu.

After breakfast, the crew quickly headed out. As they boarded their ship, Rutaba spoke. "So…what's this job?" he asked. "We're going to be looking for a new planet to settle on. The king has been informed that the planet's core has developed an instability," Kalrot replied. Rutaba's expression darkened. "How long do we have?" he asked. "King Argos said a little over a year," Rayna replied. "But we'd do well to find somewhere well before that."

Rutaba nodded. "Yeah. We'd need time to move everyone, even if we can find a new planet."

"Yeah," Kalrot said. "It's not ideal." "That's an understatement," Rutaba said. Kalrot nodded again. "Go and get the others settled in. Me and Rayna are gonna go fire up the ship," he said. Rutaba nodded in return and headed off to accomplish his task.

"Are we sure we're going to succeed?" Rayna asked. "We're going to have to," Kalrot replied. "Or our people are doomed."

Rayna nodded, but didn't want to think too hard about that implication. "Let's get up to the bridge, then," she said. Her husband nodded and headed for the elevator. They needed to move, and fast.

"How much longer can we survive? Even if we find somewhere else to live?" Kalrot mused, as the ship took off. Rayna noticed his silence. "Is there something wrong?" she asked. "It's nothing. Nothing at all," he replied. She wasn't entirely convinced that he was telling the truth, but she decided not to press the issue. After all, they had a mission to take care instead pressed a few buttons on the computer console, pulling up the list of planets they'd been given. It read, as follows:

Zydron

Gorolai

Logamor

Gallia

Centauri V

Fretzal

Sadala

"Why is Sadala here?" Kalrot questioned. "That planet is a wasteland."

"Who knows," Rayna said. "Maybe he hopes to find a way to restore it if all else fails?" "Maybe," Kalrot said. "We'll just have to find out." Rayna nodded. "Right. There's only so much that we can do about it," she said. "Which is, to say, nothing," Kalrot replied. "Unless the rumors of Namek's 'power spheres' are true."

"That's just a legend," Rayna said. "And Namek is entirely too far out of our way to investigate."

"Maybe. But that may be our last resort," Kalrot said. "Travel there. Find out if those spheres are the real deal or not." "I acknowledge that, but it's not likely," Rayna replied. Kalrot chuckled, but said nothing as he and Rayna fully focused on flying the ship.

Several hours later, they came across the first planet on their list. "Here we are," Kalrot said. "Zydron."

"What do we know about it?" Rayna asked. "Not much," Kalrot said. Just that it was ravaged by the Starlight Corporation's failed mining operations."

Rayna nodded. "Alright. Let's land and check this place out." Kalrot nodded, and they maneuvered the ship down to the surface and landed. "The crew should be getting ready," Rayna said. Kalrot nodded again. "Our mandate is to check each of the planets on the list- see if they can support life. We'll find one that's preferably uninhabited."

Rayna nodded. "Right. Then let's head down." Her husband nodded again, making to move as the ship powered soon departed the ship, examining their surroundings. "Man. This place is worse than I thought," Kalrot said, examining the area. "Where are we?" Rutaba asked, joining them. "Zydron," Rayna answered. "Why does it look like this?" Rutaba asked, looking around.

"It was ravaged by the Starlight Corporation's failed mining operations," Kalrot answered. "Or so the official story goes, anyway."

Rutaba nodded. "Ah. Seems like a terrible place to settle," he said. "We don't know that," Rayna said. "Not for sure, anyway."

"Seems like it to me," Rutaba said. "But you guys are in charge. We'll do what you think."

His sister nodded, waiting for her husband. "Kalrot, what do you think?" she asked. "I'm not sure. But if the whole place looks like this, then it's not great." Rayna nodded. "We still have several more planets to check out."

"Place sure is eerie," Kallot said, stepping off of the ship. "Nice of you to join us, Kallot," Rutaba said, sarcastically. "Shut it," Kallot responded, jokingly. "What are we doing here?" he asked."Scouting this place to see if it's a viable choice to relocate to," Kalrot answered.

"This looks like a terrible place to do that," Kallot said. Kalrot chuckled. "Yeah. I don't know where the others are, though," he replied."They haven't left the ship yet," he said. Kalrot opened his mouth to reply, just in time for the others to exit the ship. "Nice of you guys to join us," he said. Cornalia rolled his eyes, pushing to the front of the group. "What are we doing? Clearly this place is no good."

"Maybe, but we still have to scout it," Kalrot said. "Now! I'm going to plan this operation!"

The others paid him rapt attention, as he was their leader. "Alright. We have eight of us, so we'll split four and four. Me, Rayna, Kallot and Rutaba will go out looking. Parsel, Beat, Bean, and Cornalia will stay with the ship."

"Anyone have any questions?" he asked. "No sir!" the others cried (minus Cornalia, who muttered something under his breath). "Good. We begin our trek now," Kalrot said, ignoring Cornalia's complaining. With that, Kalrot's team departed.

The group set out to explore Zydron, wondering whether or not the planet will be suitable to relocate their people to. They traveled several hours toward the east, hoping to find something of interest. "It's no good. We can't see anything in the dark," Kallot said, noting that it was almost nighttime. "You're right," Kalrot said. "Let's set up camp for the night. Maybe we'll find something tomorrow." The four of them set up camp for the night, noting that there was nothing to be done until morning.

They awoke bright and early, packing up and setting out again. "A new day- and more searching," Rayna said. "Yep. Let's get on with it," Kalrot replied. Kallot and Rutaba nodded in agreement, and the group set off. Eventually, they came across a small village, and the travelers wandered inside it. "Looks abandoned," Rutaba said, observing the area. "I wonder why?" Kalrot said. "Let's split up and see if we can find anything."

After searching the houses and other buildings and not finding a single thing, they met up outside the town hall. "Do you think there could be anything in here?" Kallot asked. "Maybe. Sign says town hall," Kalrot said. "But how do we get in? The door clearly has no power," Rayna asked. "Like this," Kalrot said, and blew the door open with a ki blast. "Really? Why must you always break stuff?" Rayna asked, incredulously. "Got us in, didn't it?" Kalrot said. "And this place is obviously abandoned." His wife sighed and rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Let's go in," she said.

Kalrot chuckled and led the others inside the building. To no one's surprise, the place was dusty, dark, and obviously long derelict. Rayna noticed them as they entered. "Hey guys! Over here! "I've found something. One of these computers still has power!" she said, calling them over. "How?" Kalrot asked, approaching her. "I have no idea," Rayna replied. "Did you get anything off of it?" Kalrot asked. "Just some old logs. But they paint a different picture of what really happened to this place," she replied."Can you read them?" Kalrot asked. Rayna nodded. "I'll read them out loud- there are four of them." Kalrot nodded in return as she continued.

"Log One: Tensions are rising. The Arcadian Empire has tightened its grip, and the king is being pressured to fully surrender control or die, but he refuses. Active rebel movement is organizing. The King has not publicly supported it, not yet, anyway."

-Signing off, Mayor Orgall

"Log Two: The rebellion grows each day. They have established a hidden base here in Southern Village. I will support them till my last breath. Officials from the Empire are beginning to suspect something. We must strike now!"

-Signing off, Mayor Orgall.

"Log Three: Evacuation may be necessary. The empire has come dangerously close to discovering the base are beginning to suspect that we are harboring rebels and rebel activity. Evacuation begins tomorrow night."

-Signing off, Mayor Orgall

"Log Four: Evacuation is necessary. The Empire has discovered the rebel cell here. They're attacking the are being evacuated alongside fleeing rebels. Others are staying to fight. I will fight to the very end."

-Signing off, Mayor Orgall

"Those seem ominous," Kalrot said. "Yeah," Rayna said. "This means that the Arcadian Empire was behind Zydron's destruction," Rutaba said, taking that in. "Yeah- those guys are bad news," Kallot added, briefly glancing around the room. "How old are those logs?" Kalrot asked. "They're timestamped seven years ago," Rayna said. "The same time that Zydron was devastated. Now I'm intrigued. Let's explore some more," Kalrot said. "Right. We can get moving," Rayna replied, and the group moved out in search of answers.

Eventually, the four of them stumbled upon a small military outpost, also abandoned, save for one unconscious man wearing black armor. He was a red skinned alien, not a Saiyan, or any race they'd seen lately. "Is that a Pyronian?" Rayna asked. "Looks like one. But I haven't seen any since we left the Alliance military. What's he doing all the way out here?" Kalrot wondered. Rayna shrugged as they decided to take a closer look.

Argall IV, Argos' Palace….

The Saiyan king's ruling council entered the throne room. The six of them seemed a bit annoyed to be disturbed. Nonetheless, they entered- a summons from the king was not to be ignored. "I was informed that we're doing something regarding the pressing issue of our planet exploding?" Ruta, Minister of Science, asked. King Argos nodded, assuring him. "Yes, Ruta. I've got people on it."

Ruta nodded, but found his question preempted by Yuga, the king's daughter, and the Minister of Defense. "Who?" Argos sighed at his daughter's lack of tact. "A group of highly-trained individuals," he said. Yuga rolled her eyes. "Dad, you can't keep this up!" she replied. "Hiring mercenaries?"

"That is not for you to decide, Princess," he replied, using her title- knowing that she hated the formalities. "Stop. You don't need all of those titles and crap," Yuga replied. "Just tell me who you hired." Bega, Ruta's twin sister, spoke next. "Yes, I would like to know as well," she said. Argos directed his attention to his Minister of Agriculture. "That is overstepping the bounds of your position," he said remained silent, though it was obvious that she did not like it. Ruta spoke in defense of his sister. "My lord, we only wish to know who you've sent. This is important for our continued survival."

Argos sighed. "Fine. Clearly there's no swaying you," he said. "I sent my usual agents."

The council seemed to ruminate on that for a few seconds. Finally, Yuga spoke once again. "Who are these agents?" she asked. "That's a good question, my dear," King Argos replied. "I've provided some dossiers for you all," he said, activating a holographic display. "These…are some of our own?" Pargus, the King's Minister of Internal Affairs, asked, speaking for the first time in the whole meeting. "Yes," King Argos replied. "They are. Here's the first one." A few seconds later, the first one appeared, displaying Kalrot's file.

Name: Kalrot

Sex: Male

Age: 22

Height: 6 ft. 2 in.

Weight: 225 lbs.

Subject is highly trained, and was once a member of the Alliance military. Possesses great skill in combat and piloting. He is a Class III mercenary, and is a favored pick due to his refusal to give up, and his stellar success rate. Skilled with a blade, and carries a Sadalan style katana. Last known power level: 17,000. Danger rating: extreme.

"So…" Ruta said, examining the information. "This one is Karo's boy?" King Argos nodded. "Yes. He is quite good at what he does." Ruta nodded. "I feel more….assured about this," he said. "Show us the rest." King Argos nodded and brought up the second file, Rayna's. "This one is Kalrot's wife," he said. "You may recognize her as well."

Bega nodded. "Old Spinaka's daughter," she said. "We do, indeed, know her." Argos nodded as he opened up the file, displaying the information within.

Name: Rayna

Sex: Female

Age: 21

Height: 5 ft. 5 in.

Weight: 180 lbs.

Subject is a former combat medic in the Alliance military. She is known to have an interest in scientific pursuits as well, however. Her skill in battle is considerable, and she is married to Kalrot, leader of the group in question. Last known power level: 10,000. Danger rating: high.

None of the council members said anything following that, so King Argos carried on with the briefing. "Here's the third one," he said, bringing up Rutaba's information. The assembled council members nodded as he did so.

Name: Rutaba

Sex: Male

Age: 20

Height: 6 ft. 0 in.

Weight: 210 lbs.

Subject is a former soldier, and served in the Alliance military like his friends. Brother of Rayna, subject 2. He is known for his adaptability, and is Kalrot's best friend. He is not known to have any special interests or skills. Last known power level: 9,000. Danger rating: medium.

"What are the danger ratings for?" Ruta asked, speaking up. "Those," Yuga said, preempting her father, "are measures of how much trouble we'd have if any of these individuals were to go rogue."Ruta nodded, though he did not speak. Yuga nodded in return and gestured for her father to continue. King Argos nodded and did so. "We have five more files to go over, so let's continue," he said, receiving nods from the council as he continued. "Wait," Pargus began, "how do we know that we can trust them?"

"Good question," King Argos replied. "They are some of the most loyal people I have ever known." Pargus seemed satisfied by that answer, and allowed him to continue. The fourth file, this one Cornalia's, appeared on the display. "Here's another of them," Argos continued, again eliciting nods from the assembled Ruling Council.

Name: Cornalia

Sex: Male

Age: 23

5 ft. 2 in.

Weight: 230 lbs.

Subject is known as a hotheaded, but reliable soldier. He, too, was an Alliance soldier, like each member of his group. He's known to be an instigator of fights, and is often seen hitting on various women. His past is marred by tragedy: his parents and his girlfriend were killed during an Arcadian raid. This is the likely explanation for his behavior in the present. Last known power level: 8,000. Danger rating: Medium.

Again, none of the Council members seemed to have anything to interject, so King Argos continued to the fifth file, that of Kallot.

Name: Kallot

Sex: Male

Age: 24

Height: 5 ft. 10 in.

Weight: 220 lbs.

Subject is another of Kalrot's close friends. He's known as a rather calculating, tactical, and collected individual. He serves as the group's tactician, and was once a soldier, like his friends. He is known as a reliable individual, and is known to respect his leader. Last known power level: 9,500. Danger level: high.

"So…" Brocol, Minister of External Affairs, said, speaking for the first time all meeting, "this one is Brass' boy, right?" he asked. "Yes," King Argos said, recalling his departed friend for a moment. Brocol nodded. "He was my friend, as well. What happened to the boy, then?" King Argos remained silent for a few seconds, and then answered. "He, like his friends, were orphans taken in by old Celery," King Argos said. "They worked for him until they came of age and joined the military."

Brocol nodded. "Ah," he said. "But that description does not fit Rayna and her brother." Argos nodded in return. "Yes. Those two are the exceptions," he said. "There are three others that they once associated with that are no longer around." Brocol nodded, but did not press further, beckoning King Argos to continue with the presentation. "Right," the king said, "let's continue." Parsel's information was then displayed.

Name: Parsel

Sex: Male

Age: 22

Subject is the quietest member of the group, and is rarely observed speaking. Another former Alliance soldier, he is formidable in battle. He's known as a superb swordsman, and carries a traditional Sadalan-style blade. Last known power level: 7,500. Danger level: medium.

The Ruling Council was again silent, allowing King Argos to continue. "And now for the last two," he said, preparing both Beet and Bean's files simultaneously.

Name: Beet

Sex: Male

Age: 15

Occupation: Mercenary

5 ft. 5 in.

Weight: 154 lbs

An orphan taken in by Kalrot and Rayna, and treated as their own child, despite the age difference making them more akin to siblings than parents and child. Beet is a rather unrefined warrior, possessing more of a street brawler style. Last known power level: 4,000. Danger level: low.

Name: Bean

Sex: Male

Age: 15

Occupation: Mercenary

Height: 5 ft. 3 in.

Weight: 150 lbs

Beet's twin brother. He was also taken in by Kalrot and Rayna, meaning that he is also their adopted son. He too, is a brawler, and is not especially skilled. Last known power level: 3,500. Danger level: low.

"And that's all of them," King Argos said, pressing a button and organizing all six files together. "I'll forward this information to each of you if you want to study it more."

The mostly silent sixth member of the Ruling Council, General Carro, finally spoke, at last. "So…you've sent the best you could get?" he asked. Everyone, sans King Argos, were surprised that he spoke. His usual attitude was that words were useless- so it caught them by surprise.

"Yes," the king said, after a few seconds of silence. "They'll pull this mission off. Give them time." Carro nodded. "I hope so," he said. "Because we're all dead if they don't." Argos nodded, accepting that grim truth. "Yes. Let's hope that doesn't come to pass. Meeting adjourned," he said, dismissing the Council.

Back on Zydron…

Kalrot and Rayna approached the unconscious man, examining him up close. "He's still alive," Kalrot said, looking him over. "What are we going to do with him?" Rayna asked. "Let's take him back to the ship. We might be able to get some info out of him," Kalrot answered. Rayna nodded. "Of course. He might know something about what happened here," she said. Kalrot nodded and slung him over his shoulder. "Let's go," he said. "Are we sure that's a good idea?" Rutaba asked. "I mean, he is a stranger." "I think it should be fine," Rayna said. "I trust Kalrot."

Rutaba sighed and turned his attention to Kallot. "What do you think?" he asked. "I think that we should trust Kalrot's judgment," Kallot replied. Rutaba nodded, but seemed apprehensive. "Fine," he said.

"We don't need any arguing," Kalrot said. "I've already made my decision. Let's go." The others nodded affirmatively, and the four took off towards the ship. They arrived shortly thereafter, where they were greeted by Parsel, who'd been standing watch over the entrance.

"Who's he?" Parsel asked. "Him? I don't know. We found him like that. Brought him here to see if we can get any info from him," Kalrot answered. "Is that really a good idea?" Parsel asked. "Not this again…" Kalrot sighed. "I'm the captain, and it's my say. Help us get him to the medical bay," he said with authority.

Parsel nodded and followed them inside, where they immediately put the unconscious man in the ship's healing chamber. "Parsel, you stand guard first. The rest of us are going to get some rest," Kalrot said. The other Saiyan nodded and took his post. The group spent the rest of the night taking turns, ending with Kalrot.

When morning came, the soldier in the pod was finally fully healed, and the pod opened. "Where am I?" he thought, stepping out. Noting the confused look on his face, Kalrot, who was sitting in a chair in the corner, spoke up. "You're on my ship," he said. The man rounded on his heel to face him.

"What? Why?" the mysterious man asked. "Because me and my crew found you out in the wilds, laying face down in the dirt," Kalrot answered. "That's embarrassing," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Name's Kalrot, stranger. What's yours?" the Saiyan replied, calmly. "My name? It's Pyrus," the alien said. "Well, Pyrus. What were you doing out there?" Kalrot asked. "I first came here with a scout team from the Arcadian Empire," Pyrus said. "But I deserted and started helping the citizens- and the rebels trying to run the Arcadians off this planet."

Kalrot nodded. "What's the last thing you remember before waking up here?" he asked. "The last thing I remember was being attacked by my old CO when I tried to stop my old team from bullying some poor citizens traveling between villages," he said. "Explains how you were pretty roughed up when we found you," Kalrot said.

Pyrus nodded, but remained silent. "How'd you join up?" Kalrot asked, now intrigued."I was young and stupid. You see, I'm from Pyron. There's not much to see there, and I wanted adventure. I was the leader of a group of minor troublemakers- and they'd humiliated us at the restaurant we hung out at. Their boss was impressed with my skill, so he asked if I wanted to join up. Told me that they'd be at the spaceport recruiting for the next few days. I wanted adventure, so I joined," Pyrus said.

"Do you ever miss being home?" Kalrot said. "Every day. I left my friends, my girlfriend, everyone I knew, everything, and left. Pretty sure my parents hate me now," Pyrus said. "I'd love to be able to go back," he said. "I'll tell you what- you help us find a new home for our people, and we'll give you a ride to Pyron." Kalrot said. "You mean it?" Pyrus said, nodded affirmatively. "Then we have a deal," he said. "Come on. Let's introduce you to the crew," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded, and the two walked up to the top deck, where the others were eating.

"So he's awake," Rayna said. "Yep," Kalrot said. "Everyone, this is Pyrus," he said. They introduced themselves to him, accepting him into the crew. "So you work for the Arcadian Empire?" Rayna asked, noticing the insignia on his armor. "Used to. I deserted- and I've been helping the people that still live here, by leading security teams to protect citizens traveling between villages," Pyrus answered."Then why are you still wearing that armor?" she asked. "Because the rebels out protecting the citizenry didn't have anything else to give me, so I wear this old armor that I already had," he said. "I think we've got a few spare sets of armor in the armory," Kalrot replied, stroking his chin. "Thanks. This suit is pretty worn out," he said. Kalrot then led the new recruit down to the armory.

"Here we are," Kalrot said, as he opened the door. The two walked inside the room, filled wall to wall with weapons, armor, and other equipment used by Kalrot's mercenary team. Kalrot pulled out a few sets of armor and laid them on the table. "See if one of these will fit you. I have a few more if they don't," Kalrot said. "I've never seen any armor like that before," Pyrus said, surprised.

"Not surprised. It's an old Saiyan style- those on Planet Vegeta hadn't worn it since they joined Frieza. Our colony never stopped," Kalrot said. "The changing room is over there," he said, pointing to a door on the other side of the room. Pyrus nodded, and carried the first suit over toward the room, and changed. He came out a few seconds later.

"This one fits great," Pyrus said. "Good. Now we're going back to the bridge to decide what to do next," Kalrot said. "I thought all of the Saiyans were evil conquerors, but you guys aren't," Pyrus said, confused. "Oh right. We're from a colony of a few hundred- the last descendants of the heroic Saiyans that lost the civil war that devastated Sadala, the original homeworld of our race," Kalrot explained. "So Planet Vegeta wasn't where the Saiyans originated?" Pyrus asked. "Nope. Long ago, the Saiyans lived on Sadala. It was destroyed, or at least its civilization was, in a massive civil war that the evil Saiyans won. They moved on and took over another planet, which they named after their king," Kalrot explained.

Pyrus nodded- and started to ask another question, only to be cut off by Kalrot. "Let's head back to the bridge. We need to plan our next move," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded, and followed Kalrot back to the bridge, where the others were waiting. "That armor looks good on you," Rayna said. "Thanks. It feels a lot better than that old dirty stuff I was stuck with," Pyrus responded. "Alright. Let's get down to business. We need a plan," Kalrot said. "Right. We need to figure out if the empire still has a presence on this world or not," Rayna added. "I can confirm that they do," Pyrus said.

"Oh?" Kalrot asked, intrigued. Pyrus nodded. "There's a large imperial base up to the north. When I was working for the empire, I was stationed there." Kalrot nodded in return as Rayna spoke. "You mentioned that you were working for some rebels here?" she asked. "Yes. If you want information about the facility here, we should go meet them," Pyrus replied. "Where are they?" Kalrot asked. "Their base is off to the east. I'll give you the coordinates," Pyrus answered. "It'll be faster if we take your ship," he said.

"Alright, then let's punch in the coordinates," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded and followed him into the cockpit, where Kalrot input the coordinates into the launch computer. Rayna walked in, and sat down in the co-pilot's chair. "We're ready, then?" she asked. "Yeah," Kalrot replied. "We're ready to take off."

"Pyrus. Go sit with the others in the other room. And don't stand up until we're airborne," Kalrot said, ordering his newest recruit off the bridge. The Pyronian nodded and departed as he and Rayna began preparing for launch.

A couple of hours later, Pyrus returned to the bridge. "We're almost there," he said. "I see that," Kalrot said, glancing at the computer. "What are we looking for, exactly?" Rayna asked, preempting her husband's next question.

"There's a base- where the remnants of Zydron's military are holed up- nearby. That's what we're looking for," Pyrus answered. "You feel that you can't just abandon them, right?" Kalrot asked. "Exactly," Pyrus responded."Well, you'd better take a seat. We're about to land," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded and took a seat in the observation chair as Kalrot and Rayna began landing procedures. They sat the ship down a short ways away from the coordinates that Pyrus gave.

A meeting was quickly held in the common area. "Alright. How should we proceed?" Kalrot asked. "I think it would be smart to limit the number of people that go in for the introduction," Pyrus answered. "Okay. Then it's decided. Me and you will go inside," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded affirmatively, but before he could answer, Rayna spoke up. "I'm coming too," she said. Kalrot nodded. "Pyrus?"

"I don't object," the Pyronian replied. "We should probably get going, though." Kalrot nodded, and the trio exited the ship. Once outside, Kalrot asked "So what exactly are we looking for around here?"

"A hidden door. The entire complex is subterranean," Pyrus answered. He walked over to a nearby cave and went inside, gesturing for Kalrot and Rayna to follow. Inside the cave, Kalrot looked around, noticing machinery and some sort of computer systems built into the walls. "Wonder what all that stuff is for?" he thought to himself. "This place seems impressive," Rayna said, interrupting her husband's quiet musings.

"Or it was," he said. "Before the Arcadians wrecked the place." Rayna nodded, but her reply was cut off by Pyrus approaching them. "This way," he said. Kalrot and Rayna nodded, following him , they came across a computer terminal connected to a large door. The screen flashed brightly- the interface requesting a password. "Alright. This door will take us into the main base," Pyrus said. "Do you have the password?" Kalrot asked. "Of course I do," Pyrus replied. He then turned toward the computer and pressed a few keys. Just like that, the door opened, and they proceeded inside.

"This place looks abandoned," Kalrot said. "That's because they don't have enough manpower to staff the entire place," Pyrus said. "Ah. So that's why this place looks so empty," Kalrot replied, glancing around the room.

Pyrus nodded. "They're mostly concentrated downstairs, in the command center on the lowest level," he said. "Does the elevator work?" Kalrot asked, inquisitively. "It should," Pyrus responded.

He walked over to the elevator panel and pressed the button, calling the elevator. "How does that still have power?" Rayna wondered to herself. She wasn't given much time to ponder that, though, as Pyrus stepped inside and waved for the two Saiyans to follow him.

"So, these associates of yours- who are they?" Kalrot asked. "They're remnants of Zydron's military- and they're holed up here, one of the few surviving installations on the planet," Pyrus responded. "They're still fighting?" Rayna asked.

"Yeah, but it's mostly a war of attrition at this point," Pyrus answered. Their conversation was then cut short by the elevator arriving at its destination. On the other side of the doors, several of the soldiers stood with weapons drawn, aiming at the doors. "Steady! It could be anyone in there!" the commander shouted as the elevator stopped moving. When the doors opened and they saw that it was Pyrus, they relaxed. The commander approached them. "Pyrus! We thought you were dead!" he said. "I survived thanks to my new friends," Pyrus answered.

The commander nodded, glancing at Kalrot and Rayna. "These two?" he asked. "Well, there are more of them than just these two, but yeah," Pyrus replied. "We're mercenaries by trade," Kalrot said, catching the squad commander's attention. "Mercenaries, you say?" he asked. "That's right," Rayna said. "Then I'll take you to the boss," the commander replied.

"Lead the way," Kalrot said. The squad commander nodded and led the trio to the general's office. As they walked inside, said general looked up from his desk. "Pyrus! You survived?" he said, in shock. "That's right, General Raibol," Pyrus said. "It seems that you had help," Raibol said. "Sure did," Kalrot said, putting his arm around his wife. "You look like warriors of great skill," Raibol said. Kalrot nodded. "We are," he said. "Our crew is waiting on our ship."

"So why have you come here?" Raibol asked. "Because they're looking for a new home for their people, and came to scout out Zydron, but found me," Pyrus said. "Interesting," Raibol said, looking at Kalrot. "We've already decided that we aren't going to settle here, if that's what you're worried about," Kalrot said.

Pyrus shook his head. "That's not what he's worried about," he said. "You're right. What I'm worried about is the war we're fighting," Raibol said. "We're losing men every day. And the enemy is dangerously close to discovering us." "We'd be glad to assist you," Kalrot said. "Really? You'd really risk your lives to help us free our world?" Raibol asked in disbelief.

"Yes. People like the Arcadian Empire disgust me. They only want power for power's sake," Kalrot said. "One thing, though," Kalrot said. "Pyrus wants to go back to his homeworld, but he felt that he couldn't just abandon you guys," he added. "Is this true? I don't blame you if it is," Raibol said. "Yes. I've gotten very homesick. They promised to take me home if I help them find a home for their people," Pyrus responded. "Then let's get down to business," Raibol said.

"The base is to the north. A very large complex- Governor Raikorr's palace lies deep within it." he continued. "My top agent will brief you on our plan for a raid. With your help, the plan will finally be able to come to fruition," Raibol said. "The briefing room is down the hallway to the right," he added. Kalrot and Pyrus headed there, where they met with said agent.

"You must be our new allies," he said. Kalrot nodded. "The name's Kalrot. And this is my wife, Rayna." The man nodded. "Nice to meet you," he said. Kalrot nodded in return, but didn't speak again.

"And Pyrus. Good to see you alive," the agent said. Pyrus nodded as he redirected his attention to Kalrot and Rayna. "Anyway, I'm Lt. Orgall. I'm in charge of tactics," he said. "Wait. You said Orgall? That was the name on some journal entries we found in some ruins," Rayna said, now curious. "Those were written by my father. And those ruins were the village where I grew up," he replied.

"My condolences," Kalrot said. "Don't feel sorry for me. I've made peace with it," Orgall replied. "Let's get down to business. We're planning an attack on the Imperial base. We fight every day. That's why we call ourselves the Guardians of Zydron," he said. "Fancy name. But can you back it up?" Kalrot asked. "You bet we can," Orgall said. "I hope so, for your sake. Can we go over your plan now?" Kalrot said. "Yes- let's get into it," Orgall said. "Let's get the briefing started," Orgall began. "We've already briefed our men, and were preparing the raid when you arrived," he continued. "It would've been a lot harder with just us," Pyrus said. "Yes. That's why it's fortunate that you met Kalrot's group," he said.

"So what's the plan?" Kalrot asked. "The plan is simple. Attack them from all sides- overwhelm them," Orgall said. "That's remarkably simple. But it'll work," Kalrot said. "We'll split the force into three groups. Our forces will assault the left and right sides. You take your group up the middle," Orgall responded."All right. I can get that done," Kalrot said. "Sounds easy enough," Rayna added. "We'll go and get our crew ready." Orgall nodded, and the two returned to their ship, accompanied by Pyrus, to inform the others of the plan. While they did that, the Guardians mobilized their forces- loading their volunteers onto their ships- preparing to transport them to the target.

Kalrot and Rayna started the ship up- and headed off to meet up with their new allies. Pyrus stepped onto the bridge a few seconds later. "The others are going ahead to prepare for our arrival," he said."We're going to assault the front gate, be the first ones in, right?" Kalrot said. "That's the plan," Pyrus answered.

"We're approaching the landing zone. Take a seat- and we'll begin our descent," Kalrot said. Pyrus nodded and returned to the observation chair. Once the ship had landed, Kalrot and the others set out to assault their target. "So there it is," Kalrot said. "That's it," Pyrus affirmed. "Why are we assaulting it head on?" Rutaba asked. "Because we're the distraction. To make them so focused on us- that they miss the gathered army breaking through the walls," Kalrot answered. "Makes sense," Rutaba replied. Kalrot nodded, and led the group down to the base. As they approached the gate, the guards noticed them. "Who are you? And what are you doing here?" the lead guard demanded.

"None of your business," Kalrot said, punching the guard in the face. Reeling, all he could do was gesture for the others to attack. "Let me handle this," Rutaba said. Kalrot nodded and pulled back- and watched as Rutaba dispatched the guards with ease. Recovered, the lead guard charged Rutaba, and got a swift kick to the stomach, dropping him in one blow.

He and the others got up, intending to gang up on Rutaba, in a five on one fight. "Let's get him!" he said, angrily. Rutaba simply raised his hand and fired off his Scatter Beam, eliminating all five of them at once. "That was easy," he quipped. "Let's get inside," Kalrot said, and blasted the gate open. As soon as the group entered the base grounds-nearly every soldier in the area converged on their position. "Get ready for a fight!" Kalrot shouted- and the team sprung into action. Pyrus rushed forward first, slamming one soldier to the ground with a kick to the chest as he rounded and caught another by the arm.

"Don't take all the fun," Cornalia smirked, taking off into the crowd. Parsel said nothing, powering up and drawing his sword. He shot Kalrot a knowing look and took off after Cornalia. That left Kalrot, Rayna, Kallot, Rutaba, Beet and Bean to work out their opponents on their own. Not that that was complicated, given the immense horde of enemy soldiers surrounding them.

Kalrot cracked his knuckles, surveying his opponents. "I've got the left!" he called, powering up and rushing off to the left of the crowd. Rayna nodded and charged right up the middle, beginning to form a ki blast on each hand.

"Come on, Rutaba! Let's get going! We'll blast them from above!" Kallot called, shooting up into the air. "Good idea!" Rutaba called back, launching up after him. Beet and Bean shared a look after that. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Beet asked. His brother nodded. "Yeah. Let's do it!"

Beet nodded in return, and the two started firing blasts into the crowd, effectively herding them into one place for their allies to beat up. Cornalia shot them an impressed smirk as he effortlessly blew several of them away with a ki wave. "Impressive," he said. "Keep it up, kids!" he called, rushing back into the crowd. Beet nodded, unleashing another ki wave. "You heard the man, Bean! Keep firing!" "Right!" Bean called back, unleashing two more himself.

Kalrot took notice of that himself as he drew his katana back for a strike. "Those two are managing themselves well…" he thought, slashing the poor unsuspecting soldier he'd been fighting across the shoulder. The man stumbled back just in time for Rayna to blast him. "You know, these guys are kind of weak," she said.

Kalrot nodded, slashing another across the chest. "Yeah," he replied. "They really are." A soldier leapt at him with a snarl, only to take a ki wave head-on, courtesy of Rayna. "So…what's our plan?" she asked. "I'll take them on with my sword," Kalrot said. "You blast them from a distance." Rayna nodded. "Okay. I'll get right on that," she said, forming another ki wave. Kalrot smiled and leapt into the crowd, his sword at the ready.

Elsewhere, Kallot and Rutaba continued to harass a large group of soldiers from the air. "This is really fun," Rutaba said, nailing one right in the face. Kallot nodded. "Uh-huh. These guys are idiots. They aren't even attempting to run."

Rutaba laughed and blasted a few more. "Let's keep it up!" he said. Kallot nodded, and began preparing a special move of his. "That's not what I think it is, is it?" Rutaba asked, noting the silverish ki building in his hands. "Oh, it is!" Kallot replied. "Care to join me?"

Rutaba nodded, drawing his hand back. "Yeah. Why not," he said. The reddish ki of Rutaba's preferred special move began forming. He shot Kallot a knowing smirk as he prepared to fire. The other Saiyan nodded, and the two launched their respective attacks.

"Flash Cannon!" "Blaster Beam!"

The group of Arcadian soldiers they were fighting found themselves completely obliterated. The two shared a knowing look as they descended. When the smoke cleared, a massive crater was visible in the ground. "Impressive, boys," Cornalia said, approaching them. "Thanks," Rutaba responded. "We tried hard."

Cornalia nodded. "Right. How about you two help me finish off my share?" he asked. "Sure," Kallot said. "I could use a good brawl. How about you, Rutaba?" "I'm up for it," Rutaba replied. Cornalia smirked. "That's what I like to hear! Come on!" he said, taking off. Rutaba and Kallot shared a nod and took off after him.

Elsewhere, on the other side of the crater, Parsel was staring down an enemy commander- neither had made any sort of move. Parsel's hand was positioned on the hilt of his sword, prepared to draw the second the enemy made a move.

His opponent stared right back, a ki blast formed in his hand. They'd been in this standoff for several minutes, neither willing to back down. Each fighter took a deep breath, and then struck. Parsel was too fast for the enemy commander to react- and the Saiyan's sword slashed straight through the guy's armor, dropping him to the ground. "Shouldn't have tried it," Parsel said, sheathing his blade. The commander briefly stared up at him, but failed to materialize any words before expiring. The Saiyan smirked and turned away, noticing the carnage that had ensued as the others finished off the remaining enemies. "Already…? Those guys were weaker than we thought," Parsel mused, before taking off to join the others.

Kalrot and Rayna were the first to meet up with him. "That was easy," Kalrot said. "Almost too easy…" "I agree," Rayna said. "We should be careful." "I concur," Parsel interjected. "Though, if all of the soldiers here are as weak as these guys were, then there won't be a problem." Kalrot nodded, but found his reply preempted by a newly arrived Cornalia. "Yeah. These guys are pathetic. No wonder they can't hold this planet," the smug Saiyan said. "These guys are weaker than the ones we used to fight back when we were with the Alliance."

"Yeah, that's true," Kalrot said. "But caution is still advisable." Cornalia nodded. "Of course. I'm not stupid. But I'm just saying that I'm not scared of these idiots."

"Yeah," Rutaba said, catching up. "I don't always agree with you, but you're right on that." Cornalia nodded and smiled smugly, though he didn't reply. Kallot chuckled at this as he caught up. "I, as the team's resident strategist, agree with Cornalia," he said. "These guys aren't tough enough to challenge us." Kalrot sighed. "Guess you might be right," he said. "When the boys get here, we'll go on ahead."

"We're right here," Beet said, descending near Kalrot- shortly followed by Bean. Kalrot nodded and addressed the group. "All right! Let's move out! We need to meet up with our allies!"

The team nodded and formed up behind him as they moved out.

A short time later, they regrouped with the Guardians. "Are you guys ready?" Pyrus asked, noticing their approach. Kalrot nodded. "Yeah. What's our next move?" he asked. "Assaulting the governor's palace," Lieutenant Orgall said, joining the conversation. "Right," Kalrot said. "Where is it?"

"Over there," Orgall replied, pointing out a large, ornate building. Kalrot nodded, turning to face the direction that Orgall was pointing. "Ah," he said. "We'll assault it." Orgall nodded in return as Kalrot turned back toward him. "Okay. "We'll hold the outside. You go on in," he said. "Be careful. There are rumors that the governor has a bodyguard. A fighter far tougher than anyone on this planet." Kalrot nodded. "I'll take that into consideration," he said. Orgall nodded again. "Good luck," he replied. "Thanks. We'll need it," Kalrot replied. "Now, move out!"

His teammates nodded, preparing to move on the palace. "Wait!" Pyrus called. "I'm coming with you!" "Are you sure?" Kalrot asked. "You aren't technically my subordinate, not yet, anyway." "Yes. I want to do this. And we're allied," Pyrus replied. Kalrot nodded. "Alright then. You'll be under my command, then. Come on."

Pyrus quickly nodded back and followed the Saiyan inside of the palace was ornate, overly designed, and surprisingly clean for how the outside (and the rest of the planet) looked. "Now I know why this planet is so poor," Kalrot quipped, glancing nodded. "Yeah. The Arcadians hoard everything valuable. And build stuff like this while everyone else suffers," he said. "Yeah. We've fought them before," Kalrot replied. "And it doesn't get any more pleasant."

Pyrus nodded, but found his reply dying in his throat as the group found itself approached by a burly Saiyan wearing a dark green version of the usual Arcadian armor. Accompanying him were twelve soldiers, all wearing a dark red version of the armor. "What's the meaning of this?" he asked. "Like I'd tell you that, scum. It's none of your business," Kalrot spat. The other Saiyan laughed. "You've got guts," he said. "But you must be working with the rebels."

Kalrot's silence told him everything he needed to know. "So…the lot of you are Saiyans…" he said. "Oh. And that Pyronian traitor…"

"Get to the point!" Kalrot snarled, assuming a combat stance. "The name's Argus," the burly Saiyan said, and these are my elite troops. "Can you beat them?" he asked, smirking. "Shut it!" Kalrot said. "Let's get down to business. We're here to fight, not chat!"

"You've got guts, I'll give you that. Now let's get this show on the road!" Argus said, powering up. "Stand back, guys. I'll handle him," Kalrot said, powering up himself. Argus tapped his scouter to read Kalrot's power at that. "Oh? A power level of 17,000? This will be interesting," he said. "Two can play at that game," Kalrot scoffed, activating his own scouter. "18,000, huh? This will be harder than I thought it would be."

Argus smirked. "Well, if you're done gawking, let's get this started! Boys, get the others! Keep 'em out of my fight!" he said. His men nodded as Kalrot's face twisted into a snarl. "Shut up!" Kalrot shouted, rushing into battle.

Argus engaged him, blocking his first strike as the fight began. Kalrot muttered something under his breath and kicked him in the chest, briefly staggering him. "You know," Argus said, getting up, "I never caught your name."

"The name is Kalrot," the younger Saiyan replied. "Don't forget it- because I'm gonna send you to hell personally!"

Argus laughed. "You talk a big game, Kalrot. But can you back it up?" Kalrot said nothing, charging forward, fist extended. Argus blocked the first blow, and the second, but was unable to stop the third, which connected with his the burly Saiyan stumbled, Kalrot drew his katana. "Face your doom with honor! With dignity!" he shouted, preparing to take his opponent down. Argus' eyes widened as he saw the other Saiyan charging, blade at the ready. He leapt aside with a last minute dodge, suffering a slash across the cheek- as opposed to the full decapitation strike that Kalrot was aiming at. "So…you're choosing to do this the hard way?" Kalrot asked, sheathing the sword.

Argus, meanwhile, was shocked. "You…those are Sadalan martial arts! The sword…I see it! You're a traditionally trained Saiyan warrior…" he said. "Where did you learn those moves? The bladework?"

Kalrot openly scoffed, not bothering to hide his disdain. "Like I'd tell you that," he said. "You must have come from that hellhole- Planet Vegeta."

Argus did not refute that statement. "I.. yeah, I did," he said. "I left as soon as I could."

"Yet you still serve the Arcadians. It would have been better for the universe if you had stayed and let Frieza kill you," Kalrot said. "You have no honor!"

"Don't you dare lecture me about honor! You slaughtered my men!" Argus snarled, now angered. That set Kalrot off. "Shut. Your. Mouth. Those men tried to kill me first!" he growled. "And not one Saiyan on Planet Vegeta was righteous! They deserved oblivion!"

Argus flinched back. He'd not expected this fire, this…conviction… from his opponent. "I…I see now," he said, after a few minutes of silence. "You are one of the last vanguard of the lost way of the Saiyans…"

Kalrot nodded. "Finally. Something you said makes sense," he said. "And the Saiyan race lost its way a long time ago. So shut up and fight me!"

Argus nodded, reassuming his combat stance. "Fine! If we have to fight, then let's fight!" Kalrot smirked and charged into combat. Both traded a series of blows, neither able to gain much ground over the other. As the fight continued, it became increasingly clearer that Argus had a slight advantage over Kalrot. "Damn it! This is more trouble than I'd wanted! Guess I'll need to try the Light Piercer…" Kalrot thought. "What's the matter? Give up already?" Argus mocked, noting that Kalrot was not saying a word or moving.

"No. Not yet," Kalrot answered, though he did not move. Argus grinned maniacally and assumed his stance. "Bring it on!" he said. Kalrot smirked, silently assuming his own stance.

A few minutes earlier….

Kalrot's friends found themselves put on the defensive by Argus' troops. Given that it was an eight on twelve fight, it wasn't going to be easy. "Careful," Pyrus said. "These guys are tougher than the standard soldier."

The others nodded, though Cornalia wasn't convinced. "They don't look all that strong," he said, powering up. "Wait-" Pyrus began, only to be cut off by the Saiyan rushing ahead. "He does that," Rayna said. "You'll get used to it."

Pyrus sighed. "Well, let's get ready for a fight," he said. Rayna nodded, beginning to organize the others. "Form up!" she shouted. The others immediately sprang into action, creating a defensive formation as the Arcadian elites closed in. The fight quickly got violent as Cornalia slammed his fist into one soldier's gut, sending him staggering back. He smirked as another attempted to strike him, and he caught her fist. "I ain't above fighting a woman, you know," he said, yanking her over his shoulder. She slammed into the ground as the first recovered.

Cornalia smirked as he approached him. "Give up. Before I have to rough you up," he said. "Never!" the soldier cried, rushing back into the fight. "Fine," Cornalia said. "Have it your way." With a kick, the soldier was sent flying as the second got back to her feet.

Cornalia effortlessly dodged her as well, before knocking her off her feet with a kick to the ankle. Cornalia laughed and continued to toy with the two as the others became embroiled in a brawl with the rest. Rayna engaged three on her own, Pyrus took two, Kallot and Rutaba took one each, Parsel took two, and Beet and Bean began double teaming the last one, who found himself overwhelmed by their teamwork.

This led directly to their present situation- a struggle for dominance against the Arcadian soldiers. Rayna grabbed one soldier in a headlock as the other two approached her. She smiled as they did so, and flung him into his allies, dropping all three. "Time to finish this!" she said, gathering up her ki.

The soldiers recovered just in time for her to fire the blast she'd been forming. "Eat this! Aura Sphere!" The high speed ball of pinkish ki slammed into the ground near them, exploding in a burst of harsh light. The trio was swiftly crushed, left utterly beaten. Rayna smirked as she admired her handiwork and flew off to assist her brother, who was struggling. Rutaba found himself pushed onto the defensive, having been caught off-guard.

The soldier he was fighting kept up the ruthless offense, pushing Rutaba back. "This is getting old…" he muttered, drawing his hand back for a Blaster opponent rushed in and swept his legs, throwing his balance off and interrupting his attempt to attack. Rutaba struggled to his feet as the soldier began forming a blast of his own. Just as he thought that he was going to have to take the blast, Rayna planted her boot in the side of the soldier's face, sending him sighed, pulling himself to his feet. "Thanks," he said. "Don't mention it," Rayna replied. "Just focus on the fight!"

Rutaba nodded, punching out the nearest soldier. His sister smiled as she unleashed an Aura Sphere, nailing another, stopping his attempt to ambush Rutaba from behind. He acknowledged the assist with a nod and took to the air. He charged a beam of ki up, preparing another attack. "Eat this! Blaster Beam!"

His target found himself blasted head-on, dropping to the ground. Kallot caught up shortly thereafter, grabbing the guy in a headlock. "Thought you could escape, huh?" he asked, smirking.

The soldier nodded fearfully, before the Saiyan flung him into the air. "Rutaba, now!" he shouted. Rutaba nodded, and shot forward like a rocket. He smashed into the soldier, driving him down to the ground. Once he finished, the soldier was left utterly beaten. "I love that combo," Kallot said. Rutaba nodded. "It's fun, that's for sure."

Rayna chuckled, walking over to them. "You guys have some good moves," she said. Her brother nodded. "Damn right we do." All three laughed at that. Elsewhere, Pyrus caught a blow from the first soldier as the second closed in. A smirk crossed his face as he grabbed hold of the first one's wrist. "Let's see how you guys like this!" he shouted, using the first one as a club to strike the second.

As the soldiers dropped to the ground, Pyrus drew his hands to his chest, preparing for an attack. A dark red ki formed in his palms as he began charging his blast. "TAKE THIS! OVERHEAT!"

The beam shot forward, annihilating the two soldiers entirely. Pyrus smirked, descending to the ground to catch his breath. "That'll show you…" he thought. He smirked as he realized that most of the soldiers had fallen by now. They were close to winning this thing!

Over where Parsel was….

Parsel smirked as he blocked every strike thrown his way. He'd already dispatched the first soldier with his blade, and the second was not making him work very hard. "You killed my partner!" the man shouted, attempting to blast the Saiyan. Parsel interrupted with a kick to the gut, sending the soldier to the ground. He descended, drawing his sword once more. "You and your partner tried to kill me first," he said. The soldier gulped nervously, unable to refute that.

"Surrender," Parsel continued, "and I just might let you live." The soldier seemed to consider it for a few seconds, but he ultimately chose…poorly. He leapt at Parsel, a ki blast in his hand. The Saiyan swordsman sighed, springing forward. He carved a deep gash into the soldier's chest, dropping him to the ground. He glanced down towards the man's body with something resembling pity as he pulled a cloth from his pocket and cleaned the blood from his blade.

"I told you to surrender," he quipped, sheathing his blade. With that, he headed off to meet up with the others. Parsel arrived at the spot where the others were just as Cornalia returned to the group. "Good. You finished those fools off," he said. The swordsman nodded. "I did," he replied. "Now…are we going to help Kalrot?"

Before Cornalia could answer, though, Rayna spoke. "Not yet," she said. "Let's see how it turns out." Parsel nodded, moving to watch the brawl between Kalrot and Argus. Cornalia rolled his eyes, disappointed that he wasn't being allowed to fight. But he didn't disobey- no, he took up a place next to Parsel.

Beet and Bean returned to the group next. "Can dad win this?" Beet asked, observing the fight. "I'm not sure," Rayna replied, not taking her eyes off of the fight. "I'm just not sure." "That's…not very reassuring, mom," Beet replied. Rayna chuckled slightly. "I suppose not," she said. "Stay back here, though," she said. "It's far too dangerous for the two of you to engage him." Beet nodded. He wanted to tell her that he knew that, but decided against it- instead, he remained totally silent, focusing his attention on the battle.

Kalrot and Argus stared each other down, having taken a brief break from the action. "What's the matter? Give up already?" Argus mocked. Kalrot shot him a cold glare. "You wish!" he snarled, launching into a series of blows meant to distract him more than anything. Argus blocked most of them, but that was okay. The goal was to knock him off-guard, not to actually inflict serious damage. That was what the next attack was for.

"Is this really all you've got?" Argus asked, after a few minutes of this. "No…" Kalrot responded, shooting his leg out. His boot connected with Argus' chest, knocking the wind out of the burly Saiyan's smirked, charging up his next attack. "EAT THIS! LIGHT CANNON!" he shouted, firing his signature technique. Argus threw his hands up in an attempt to block it, but failed miserably. The blast washed over him unimpeded as a result, sending him flying backwards into a nearby wall.

When the dust settled, there was a hole in the wall and Argus was gone, seemingly defeated. "Heh…that was easier than I thought," Kalrot chuckled to himself. His mood was soon spoiled as his victory proved to be a false one- and Argus came charging back in for more. Kalrot's Light Cannon had clearly had an effect, however. His armor was in shambles, and he was covered in burns and scars, but he was still alive. Kalrot smirked and dodged his wild, enraged strikes with ease.

"Are you an animal? Or a man?" Kalrot asked, throwing a punch of his own. Argus went stumbling back from the blow, clearing his head. "You're right…I lost my composure…" he said.

Kalrot was briefly caught off guard. He hadn't expected his opponent to admit when he'd screwed up- people like this usually didn't. Argus seized the opportunity created by Kalrot's bewilderment, forcing him to defend against his rapid heavy blows. Kalrot had to admit that Argus did seem to know what he was doing, as opposed to the sloppiness of the other Arcadian soldiers under him. "You're not the pushover I thought you'd be," he said, blocking a punch meant for his face. Argus nodded. "I'm a cut above the others."

Kalrot smiled as he blocked another one. "I wouldn't have it any other way," he said. Argus nodded, sharing that sentiment. "Spoken like a true Saiyan. Let's end this!" he replied, rushing back into fierce clash continued for several more minutes. At first, it appeared that Kalrot had the advantage, but the momentum quickly turned against him. Argus managed to shatter his guard with a heavy blow. Smirking, the brute slammed Kalrot into the ground with another.

The younger Saiyan recovered just in time to take a nasty blow to the face, and then found himself kicked across the room. Before he could recover, Argus was right on top of him, wailing on him with a series of hammer blows. "Shoot…guess the Piercer Beam is back on the table…" Kalrot thought, barely blocking a punch aimed at his face.

But before he could figure out a solid plan, he found his wrist gripped tightly in the brute's hand. Argus smirked, and Kalrot grimaced. What followed was Kalrot being yanked off the ground by the larger Saiyan, who slung him over his shoulder and into the ground. Argus smirked, turning around. Kalrot groaned in pain as Argus shot up into the air. "Let's see how you like my famous Backbreaker Comet!" he shouted.

Over where the others were watching….

"This is bad," Rutaba said. "Kalrot's on the ground." Rayna didn't say a word, merely balling her fists tightly. "We need to help him!" Cornalia snarled, and Parsel nodded. Rayna ignored him, seemingly stewing in her own rage too much to notice him.

"What are we going to do?" Kallot asked. "Interfere," Pyrus said, rushing off towards the fight. Rutaba nodded, watching as the Pyronian did so. "Right," he said. Cornalia, Rutaba, and Rayna stopped what they'd been doing, staring at the newest turn of events. Parsel nodded Rutaba's way with a smirk. Rutaba smiled back with a nod, and then took off to assist.

"He's got help," Rayna said, relieved. "It's not over yet," Cornalia scoffed. "But it's about to be," Beet said. "No matter what happens."

Rayna nodded at that, though she said nothing. Cornalia rolled his eyes and resumed watching the fight. "Jerk…" Beet thought, returning his attention to the fight. "Is dad gonna be alright?" Bean whispered. "I'm not sure," Beet replied. "We'll just have to wait and see."

Up in the air, Argus was laughing like a madman as he shot down towards Kalrot like a meteor. His face was crossed by a massive, unhinged smile, and he was clearly anticipating the strike. But, before he could connect, he was blasted mid-dive. He recovered quickly, glancing around to see where the blast had come from, noticing Pyrus. "You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you?" he snarled. "No," Pyrus replied, rushing in and kicking him to the ground. Argus got back to his feet, thoroughly annoyed. "You're finished, punk!" he snarled, rushing towards him. Only to take a kick to the ribs, courtesy of Kalrot. The brute fell to the ground as Kalrot greeted Pyrus. "Thanks for the assist."

"You're welcome," Pyrus replied, as Rutaba caught up to them. "You too?" Kalrot asked. Rutaba nodded. "Yeah. What's the plan?"

Kalrot's response was preempted by Argus climbing back to his feet. "You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you?" he asked, looking Pyrus in the eye. "No," the Pyronian answered, his voice a low stepped up, kicking him back. "I have friends! You don't. That's the difference between us!" "Shut it!" Argus snarled. Kalrot smirked, blocking the brute's first blow. He blocked the second and then smacked him back with a headbutt.

"Take this!" Kalrot shouted, following it up with a heavy kick. Argus staggered back as Kalrot smirked confidently. Unfortunately, he left himself open to a kick to the stomach in doing so- which enabled Argus to follow that up with a devastating right hook, sending him flying backwards. "I could use some help, guys!" Kalrot called, ducking another blow. "Right!" Rutaba called, rushing in. He shot his foot out, striking Argus' ankle and causing the brute to lose his footing. Despite that, he managed to nail Kalrot across the face with a wild haymaker before he went down.

"Now would be a good time to jump in!" he shouted. Pyrus quickly got the message, shooting forward to assist. He struck the brute across the face, stalling him long enough for Kalrot to fire a ki wave, but Argus simply charged through it.

"Shit…." Kalrot thought, concerned. "I need time…" Pyrus seemed eager to give him that time, though, and charged forward again. He struck the brute in the stomach, dropping Argus to the Pyronian smirked, pulling his fist back, unloading his fist right into Argus' cheek. His victory was short-lived, however, as Argus quickly recovered and decked Pyrus right back.

Rutaba charged in as the Pyronian stumbled back, attempting to strike him in the other cheek. But Argus was prepared- he raised a hand and caught the punch. He smirked and flung Rutaba over his shoulder, taking him out of the fight for a few seconds. But that few seconds was all Pyrus needed to kick him in the chest, dropping the brute to his knees.

Granted a brief reprieve, the trio of warriors regrouped. "So…what's the plan?" Pyrus asked. "I need you guys to stall him so that I can gather my ki," Kalrot replied. "That's easier said than done," Rutaba said. Pyrus nodded in agreement, though he did not speak.

"Just trust me. If I can get this technique charged, then he's done!" Kalrot said. "Are you sure?" Pyrus asked. Kalrot nodded. "Absolutely." "Right," Pyrus said. "Then I'll do it!" he said, charging off. Rutaba lingered, glancing at Kalrot for a few seconds, and then he too took off to fight.

Kalrot watched them go, a smirk forming on his face. "This will be all over soon…." he thought, pressing his index and middle fingers together. He then crossed his arm over his chest, his fingers pointed out to the side as a dark blue ki began building on them.

Pyrus blocked a blow from Argus and retaliated with a blow to the face. Argus smirked, firing a ki wave into his chest. The Pyronian staggered back, reeling. Argus chuckled, drawing his fists back for a double hammer blow.

Just before Argus could connect, however, Rutaba rushed in and kicked him away, sending him flying through the massive statue of the governor that was standing in the foyer. "That was a nice kick…Shame about the statue," he quipped as Pyrus recovered. "Can we focus?" Pyrus asked, assuming his stance once more. "Right!" Rutaba said, doing the same as Argus charged back into the fray.

They sprung into action, evading Argus' rapid strikes with their superior agility. "Let's hit him together! You go high, I'll go low!" Pyrus shouted. Rutaba nodded, shooting straight up, baiting Argus into following him. Pyrus shot forward, striking Argus in the chest as Rutaba's fist connected with his back. The two smirked as the brute fell back to the floor. "Let's keep up the pressure!" Rutaba called, gathering his ki for a Blaster Beam.

Pyrus nodded, rushing in. He started off with a series of heavy blows to wear down his guard whilst Rutaba charged his attack. Pyrus smiled- Argus didn't suspect a thing. "You aren't doing much, you know," the burly Saiyan said. "I know. But I don't have to," Pyrus responded. "What…?" Argus asked, confused. "You heard me," Pyrus responded, throwing another punch, which Argus blocked.

He then smirked and leapt back. "NOW! DO IT!" he shouted, leaping back. Argus looked around, quickly noticing Rutaba hovering above him, a Blaster Beam at the ready. His eyes widened, having finally realized that Pyrus was just distracting him. A soft 'oh, shit' was all that he could muster as Rutaba fired. "TAKE THIS! BLASTER BEAM!" Rutaba shouted, firing his signature move. Argus was blown backwards, having sustained even more damage. Pyrus followed that up with an attack of his own, slamming a ki coated fist into the floor.

The energy seemed to travel underneath the ground, cracking it and the floor with glowing lines of red, until it burst into a column of energy underneath Argus, inflicting further damage. Both Pyrus and Rutaba then began firing a barrage of ki blasts, forcing the big Saiyan to defend rather than attack. "That's cool. What was that?" Rutaba asked. "I call it the Lava Plume," Pyrus said. "But never mind that. Let's finish this!"

Rutaba nodded, allowing Pyrus to take the lead. They charged in close, unleashing a relentless barrage of heavy blows, staggering the burly Saiyan, who was surprisingly still able to fight. Unfortunately for the two attackers, he managed to get a hit in, sending Rutaba flying into a wall, before connecting a kick that sent Pyrus flying as well. "Now I've got you!" he shouted, unleashing a ki wave from each hand.

Both fighters managed to recover in time to evade the blasts, leaving two more holes in the walls- making the building look significantly worse than before. "STOP THAT!" Argus demanded. "Stop what?" Rutaba taunted, despite knowing full well what he meant. "Yeah! Stop what?" Pyrus asked, further enraging Argus. "You know what!" he growled, rushing in. In doing so, he'd left himself wide open to another kick from Rutaba, sending him flying. Pyrus took advantage of that to unleash an Overheat attack, inflicting a large chunk of damage.

Argus charged back in, clearly angry at how the fight was going. Pyrus and Rutaba split, evading the bruiser's charge before unloading a barrage of ki blasts on him once more. "Alright! Now let's blast him with everything we've got!" Pyrus shouted.

Rutaba nodded, and began charging a Blaster Beam as Pyrus began forming an Overheat. "Good plan!" he called back, to Pyrus' smile. "Stupid…cheating…losers…." Argus mumbled under his looked up just in time to see the pair of blasts that his opponents were charging. "Well, shit," he deadpanned. The attacks hit their mark shortly thereafter, causing a massive explosion that further damaged the already wrecked foyer and shook the entire building. "Did we get him?" Rutaba asked, panting heavily. "I think so…" Pyrus said.

The smoke cleared shortly thereafter, revealing that Argus was still up, albeit finally showing signs of fatigue on his heavily damaged body. "He's still up?!" Pyrus exclaimed, in utter disbelief. "Heh…I told you…that…I'm a cut above…the rest…" Argus panted. "This is ridiculous," Kalrot said, annoyed. Argus just gave a meat-headed grin at that- he knew what he was doing- annoying the crap out of his opponents. His toughness was unparalleled, at least on this particular backwater dust ball. Smiling, he rushed forward, capitalizing on their annoyed and distracted state to nail each of them with a heavy blow to the stomach.

They crumpled to the ground, seemingly down for the count as Argus landed nearby and began to gloat. "Ha! I win again!" he said. He started to say something else, but took a ki blast from Pyrus. "Shut up!" he said, as Rutaba got back up as well.

Argus smirked, preparing to fight once more as his opponents stared at him in determination. The battle was winding down- it would all be over soon. Rutaba rushed in, launching into a series of heavy blows. Argus found himself hard pressed to defend against them and was pushed back. Rutaba followed up with a stiff right hook, connecting with Argus' face, sending the burly Saiyan stumbling backwards.

Pyrus then rushed in with his fist drawn back. Argus recovered in time to block the first punch, but took the second to the face, followed by a kick to the ribs, briefly halting his advance. Argus recovered in enough time to stop the incoming kick to the other side by grabbing his ankle.

"You know what that means," he said. Pyrus sighed, following the logic. Argus then slung the Pyronian by his ankle, throwing him into a wall. Kalrot grimaced at how the battle was going. "Hold on guys," he thought. "I just need a few more minutes…."

His attack was about half charged, but he wasn't really sure if he could kill Argus with it or not. But he owed it to himself and his allies to try. Rutaba attempted a left hook, only for the burly Saiyan to dodge it. Smiling, he threw out a punch and nailed Rutaba in the face, nearly knocking him out. He followed that one up with a particularly devastating kick, sending him flying into a wall. Rutaba promptly collapsed to the ground shortly afterwards, completely, and totally unconscious.

"Time to finish him off…" Argus said, before trailing off. "No you don't! Not on my watch!" Kalrot shouted, rushing back into battle. Argus turned just in time for Kalrot's fist to collide with his chest, knocking the wind out of him. "You won't touch my friends! Not while they're down!" he shouted, kicking him in the face. "NOW DIE! LIGHT PIERCER!" he shouted, unleashing his partially charged attack. Argus narrowly managed to avoid the blast, staring up at Kalrot in shock. "What was that?" he asked, in disbelief.

But all he got for an answer was a beatdown. The enraged Kalrot began relentlessly pummeling Argus, who struggled to defend against his blisteringly fast offensive. "You won't get near him!" Kalrot shouted, throwing in a powerful blow, dropping Argus to his knees. He glanced toward the rest of his allies for a few moments. "Or the rest of my friends!" he added, this time kicking him across the room. Following him across, Kalrot intercepted his path and kicked him back the other way. He then sped back across the room, intercepting his path again.

However, this time, he kicked Argus upwards, towards the ceiling. But he didn't let him hit it. No, Kalrot flew up and sent Argus flying down towards the floor with an axe handle. "EAT THIS!" he shouted, unloading a massive Light Cannon. Another building shaking explosion ensued, this time leaving a large crater in the floor.

Kalrot landed near the edge of it, breathing heavily- he'd spent a lot of power on this fight. Argus lied in the bottom of the crater, seemingly defeated. Argus crawled up and laid on the edge not long after, much to Kalrot's chagrin. "What does it take to get rid of this guy?" he said, incredulously.

"I don't know," Pyrus said, stepping over. "We need to do something, and fast." Kalrot nodded, but he said nothing. There wasn't much left to do now but finish the fight- and his opponent. "Are you ready?" Kalrot asked. Pyrus nodded, assuming his stance as Argus charged back in.

The brute attempted to connect a blow, only for Kalrot to sidestep it and kick him back into the crater. "Can you just give up now?" he asked. "NEVER!" Argus shouted, rushing in with his fist drawn back. Kalrot rolled his eyes and sidestepped that one too. He then responded with a sweeping kick, striking Argus in the ankle, causing him to drop to one knee. Smirking, Kalrot followed that up with a flying kick, nailing Argus in the chest, leaving him sprawled out on his back. "There's not much point in keeping this going," Kalrot said.

"Stand aside and let us deal with your boss," he added. Argus struggled to his feet, having been finally worn down by the repeated attacks. "If I did that, I'd be a really awful bodyguard…" he said. Kalrot smiled at that. "At least you've got some honor. But it's misplaced serving someone as evil as the Arcadians," he said. "Heh…strong in your convictions…like a Saiyan should be…." Argus responded, panting heavily.

"We Saiyans lost our way a long time ago, Kalrot. And we'll probably never find it again…" he said. "I agree with you there. Those morons on Planet Vegeta were nothing but Frieza's attack dogs. Scum of the lowest order," Kalrot responded. "But you're no better, serving these Arcadians."

Argus nodded, acknowledging his own hypocrisy. "I'm a hypocrite, yes. But I'm not wrong," he said. Kalrot had to agree there, he had a point. "Still, that makes us adversaries," he said. "Yes. And we have a fight to finish. May the best warrior prevail," Argus responded. "My thoughts exactly," Kalrot said, assuming his stance. Argus did the same as they prepared for the final clash to decide the victor. "What is going on here?" a voice said, coming from the balcony overlooking the now wrecked foyer. "Governor?!" Argus said, shocked.

"I came to see what the ruckus was, and found out that you've let rebels, or mercenaries, or whatever they are, into my palace," he said, calmly, yet angrily. "I'll deal with them," Argus said.

"You'd better. They've wrecked my foyer," he said, and stepped back to observe. "Just who are you?" Kalrot asked, ignoring Argus for a moment. "I am the esteemed Raikorr, governor of Zydron," he said. "So, you're the guy I'm looking for. See, I'm your eviction notice. Take your men and leave, and nobody else has to get hurt," Kalrot responded. "You dare speak to me that way, you insolent simpleton?" Raikorr said, offended. "Argus, kill him!" he ordered. "Kill him now!"

Argus sighed and prepared to attack as Kalrot raised his hand, forming a ring of shimmering ki. The burly Saiyan found himself trapped- his arms pinned to his sides. "Agh! What's this?!" he asked, annoyed. "I call that the Binding Ring. Good luck getting out," Kalrot replied. "While I'm at it, take two more!"

He formed two more Binding Ring attacks, one on each hand, and tossed them at Argus, increasing the total number restraining him to three. "You preach about honor and then this! You don't deserve my respect!" Argus said, angrily. "It's not dishonorable conduct. It's pragmatism," Kalrot replied calmly.

"That doesn't change the fact that I don't like it! I didn't want to have to kill you, but I'm going to now!" Argus shouted, starting to gather up his ki in an attempt to break free. "You won't get out of there," Kalrot said with a chuckle, beginning to charge his Light Piercer once more. Argus' eyes widened as he saw the beam forming. "What the hell is that?" Argus demanded. "Your doom!" Kalrot replied. "Just hold still for a few more minutes, and you'll get to see what it does!"

Argus growled something under his breath as he managed to flare his aura, shattering the first of the rings. Kalrot laughed as his Light Piercer grew larger. "It doesn't matter! By the time you've shattered those rings, you'll be too tired to dodge!" he said. Argus muttered something unintelligible and shattered the second ring as Kalrot's Light Piercer reached seventy-five percent power. The younger Saiyan smirked. "You've got maybe two minutes left! Say your prayers!"

"I'll see you in hell first!" Argus shouted, managing to shatter the third ring- though by then it was too late, and Kalrot fired. "I told you! It's time for you to die!"

Argus' eyes widened. Unfortunately for the burly Saiyan, he wasn't fast enough to completely dodge the attack, suffering a nasty wound. He clutched the hole in his shoulder, attempting to staunch the bleeding. "Tch…figures, with how this fight's been going…" Kalrot grumbled to himself.

"That was one hell of an attack," Argus said, as Kalrot approached him. "You gonna finish the job?" he asked. Kalrot shook his head. "Killing a defenseless opponent would be dishonorable," he replied. Argus smirked at that. "Guess you've got some honor in you after all…" he said. Kalrot grinned. "Yeah. But that doesn't mean that I won't do this instead!" he replied, knocking the burly Saiyan warrior out with a kick to the rounded to face the balcony and Governor Raikorr, who was who was slowly, sarcastically clapping at the sight of Argus' defeat.

"Since that buffoon Argus couldn't beat you, I guess I've got to do it myself," he said, sighing.

"Then get down here, if you're so tough," Kalrot said. "Tch…so pushy for someone who looks so exhausted. This will be easy," Raikorr said, leaping down from the balcony to engage Kalrot. "Hah! You? Beat me? I don't think so," Kalrot said, tapping his scouter. Surprisingly, it had survived the fight with nothing but a cracked lens.

"My scouter's only giving a reading of 6,500. I've got more than enough left to take you out!" Kalrot said, not the least bit intimidated. Raikorr looked scared at that declaration, but he didn't let it show as Kalrot powered up. The ensuing clash was incredibly one sided in Kalrot's favor as he relentlessly pummeled Raikorr, who was clearly in over his head. The cowardly governor attempted all manner of dirty tricks, none of which had any sort of effect on Kalrot, who continued to pummel him. The Saiyan finally had enough and kicked him away, leaving him bruised and beaten. "Is that all you've got?" Kalrot asked.

Raikorr muttered something foul under his breath and launched a ki blast at Kalrot, who caught it and crushed it into nothing with his bare hand. "Is that all? Final chance to back down," he cursed in an alien language and raised his arm cannon, exasperated with his inability to hit the Saiyan. "Take THIS!" he shouted, and fired the beam, which Kalrot dodged. "Really?" he asked, sarcastically. "Give me that!" Raikorr demanded. "What? This?" Kalrot asked, mockingly, holding up the arm cannon.

"YES!" Raikorr snapped, clearly incensed. Kalrot smirked, dropping it to the ground. Raikorr moved to reach for it, but Kalrot crushed it with his foot. "Try something else," he said. "Why you…." Raikorr muttered to himself and charged Kalrot with his sword drawn. The Saiyan smirked, effortlessly dodging his then swiftly kicked him in the chest, sending him staggering. The sword that he had been holding clattered to the ground as Kalrot closed the distance. "Try again," he said. Down to his last resort, Raikorr drew his laser pistol from his holster and fired at Kalrot, who dodged every shot. Smirking, the Saiyan grabbed the pistol and crushed it to pieces in his bare hand. A shocked Raikorr stumbled backward, falling to the ground.

Kalrot let the pieces of what used to be Raikorr's pistol fall to the ground as the alien glanced at his dropped sword. The Saiyan made it known that he knew what Raikorr was looking at by glancing at it lunged for it as Kalrot stepped back, gathering up his ki for a Light Piercer. The Saiyan effortlessly evaded a series of wild swings of the sword, none coming close to hitting him. Not a single one.

"You know, you're terrible with that thing," he said. "Shut your filthy mouth!" Raikorr snarled, leaping forward, sword raised. "Sorry, but your time is up!" Kalrot shouted. Raikorr's eyes widened as he saw the attack that Kalrot had been charging- but it was too late for him to dodge. "DIE!" Kalrot shouted, firing the attack, which left a gaping hole in Raikorr's dropped to his knees, shocked at his defeat. Kalrot simply turned to leave as the Arcadian gasped for air. "That's it. You're done," he said.

Raikorr just glared at him, then collapsed. "You did it," Pyrus said, approaching Kalrot with the unconscious Rutaba slung over his shoulder. Kalrot nodded. "That I did," he said. "Let's go meet up with your resistance buddies. Tell them that we won."

Pyrus nodded in return. "Sounds like a plan." With that, the victorious warriors left the palace, finding that the Guardians of Zydron had forced the Arcadian forces around the palace into a headlong retreat. "We did It, thanks to you," Orgall said as they approached. "You're welcome," Kalrot responded.

"If I may," Pyrus said, joining the conversation. "You may," Orgall said, allowing him in. "I'm announcing my resignation in order to return to my home world," Pyrus said. "Are you sure?" Orgall asked.

"Yes. Very much so," he responded. "Then you're officially discharged," Orgall said. "I'll let Raibol know that you're leaving for sure." "Thank you. I won't forget this!" Pyrus said. Orgall nodded. "You're welcome. It has been an honor serving with you." Pyrus nodded, shaking hands with his former CO.

"Then it's all set. We'll leave as soon as you're ready," Kalrot said. "If it's all the same to you, I'm ready anytime," Pyrus replied. Kalrot nodded. "Alright, then. Let's go," he said. With that, Kalrot and his team said their goodbyes and promptly departed Zydron.

Deep space, aboard an Arcadian flagship….

A messenger brought news to the Arcadian emperor, who was overseeing a battle from the bridge. "Lord Hoarfrost! We've just received word that Zydron has fallen into rebel hands! Governor Raikorr is dead as well."

Emperor Hoarfrost turned to face him, his tail flicking back. "That is of no concern," he said. "I was planning a full-scale withdrawal from that useless dust ball anyway."

"Yes sir, my lord. What shall I tell headquarters?"

"You may tell them that Zydron is no longer of any value to the empire. All troops there are to be reassigned immediately."

"Yes sir. What about the news about the governor?" the messenger answered. "Raikorr was a fool. His death saves me the trouble of executing him," Hoarfrost said, coldly.

"Yes sir. I will relay your message," the messenger said, and left the bridge. Hoarfrost resumed watching the battle, thinking to himself. "I'll get to the bottom of this. No one defies MY empire and lives to tell the tale!" "This fool...or group of fools, considering the damage that was reported…shall pay dearly for daring to oppose me... When I find them, they will die. Slowly and painfully..." he mused. "No mercy... None. Not from me."

His thoughts were interrupted again, this time by his servant bringing the wine that he requested, lifting his mood. "This will not do…but I'll deal with it later," he thought, taking a sip from his glass. Soon enough, he'd sort out this problem and be done with it. Until then, he was going to relax.

Kalrot's ship…

Elsewhere, Kalrot and his crew blasted into space, leaving Zydron behind. "Seems weird leaving that place," Pyrus said as he stepped onto the bridge. "You'd been there so long, I'd imagine so," Kalrot responded. Pyrus nodded. "Yeah. It seems a bit bittersweet. Maybe I'll find a girl when I get back home," he said. Kalrot chuckled at that part. "None in Hoarfrost's group?" he asked. Pyrus laughed. "No. Not any worth having, anyway," he said. Kalrot chuckled again. "We're en route to the next planet we're supposed to be scouting," Rayna said, interrupting.

"Where?" Pyrus asked. "A couple systems away," Kalrot responded. Pyrus nodded as Rayna picked up the explanation again. "We're plotting the jump now, though it may take a while to get there. We can't find a direct route there from here, so it's going to require a lot of shortcuts and out of the way detours," she said. "Right, then," Pyrus responded. "I'm going to take a shower and settle into my quarters. See you guys later," he added, turning and leaving the bridge.

"That's a nice guy, there," Rayna said, once he'd stepped into the elevator. Kalrot nodded. "He'll fit right in," he said. Rayna smiled. "You do know how to find the good ones. Maybe we'll pick up a few more?" she said.

Kalrot smiled and gave a small chuckle. "Maybe, maybe not. I'll try," he said. "Too many people makes it hard for us to get any private time." Rayna nodded, catching his insinuation. "You owe me some of that time," she said. "As soon as we make our next destination," Kalrot replied. "You have my word."

"Of better hold up your end of the bargain," Rayna replied. Kalrot nodded. "I will. When we stop to refuel, meet me in our quarters," he said. Rayna nodded, before changing the subject. "What about the rest of the crew? Nobody got hurt, right?" she asked. "No. Rutaba was a little roughed up from the fight, but no one else was hurt," Kalrot answered. "That's good. Then everyone will be ready when we arrive," Rayna said. "I don't have to patch anyone up first."

Kalrot nodded. "Yep. Our mission can stay on track," he said. You seemed like you got a good workout in," Rayna said. "I'm almost jealous." Kalrot nodded. "Yeah, I did. Didn't think that guy would ever go down. He just kept getting up- it's one reason that Rutaba got knocked out- that Argus guy just wouldn't stay down," Kalrot said. "Looked frustrating," Rayna responded. Kalrot chuckled. "Yeah. It was," he said. "Then let's get to our next destination- maybe you'll get into a fight that's less annoying," she said. Kalrot smiled at this. "Maybe," he said, laughing. "Just maybe…"

"Only maybe? Seems like you've got low standards," Rayna joked. Kalrot laughed yet again, finding that hilarious. "My standards aren't too low," he said. "I married you." Rayna smiled, genuinely touched by that sentiment. "Yeah," she said. "I'm glad for that."

Crew Quarters….

Pyrus set foot in his new quarters for the first time, glancing around. "This place is nicer that I thought," he said, to no one in particular, given that he was alone. "Yeah," Rutaba said. "They're pretty good."

Pyrus spun around in surprise. "Don't do that!" he said. The Saiyan chuckled. "Sorry. I just came down here to see how you were settling in." "Pretty good," Pyrus said. "That's good," Rutaba replied. "Let one of us know if you need anything."

Pyrus nodded. "I will," he said. Rutaba nodded and turned on his heel, exiting the room. Pyrus collapsed onto the bed as he left. "I really need a nap…." he thought, closing his eyes. Rutaba had been right about these quarters: they were very nice. He hadn't slept in a proper bed in a long time, so it would take some getting used to, but Pyrus was sure that he'd get along great.

This ship wasn't a bad place to be, and its crew seemed trustworthy pulled his boots and armor off, slipping into the bed for his well deserved nap. His last conscious thought was him wondering how everyone was doing back home. Were they okay? Did they miss him? Did they think he was dead? Alive? Coming back? Those were questions for another day, he supposed, as sleep finally claimed him.

So, this is another story that I originally put up over on AO3 and have just decided to put here. It was actually one of the first stories I started writing, long before I ever decided to post any of them anywhere. It's intended to share a universe with A Saiyan's Pride, like I said in the description.

And it's going to eventually cross over with it. Neither of them are to that point yet, so we're not gonna get to that for a while, but I'm going to try and get enough written for both of them to get there!
