Chapter 34: Poison Trap (part 1)
Finally, we have the last main engaged couple. Zooli decided to propose to her boyfriend Urchin. And the news took the couple's friends and both families by surprise. Khloe was overjoyed about her niece's engagement. Urchin's parents had mixed reactions. While the father was very happy, the mother was still not convinced about the relationship. Despite this, she had learned to accept the relationship between her son and her now future daughter-in-law. The news spread through the guppies' inner circle, which was why it was important for them to get down to business. Zooli and Urchin began to think about the kind of wedding they wanted. Although their friends and family suggested ideas, the couple had a clear idea: It would be a simple wedding. They didn't want a lot of logistics or many guests. They would only invite those close to the couple. The budget was important to keep in mind and manage in the best way. However, it is possible that the arrival of someone could complicate the wedding plans. And even put the relationship between Zooli and Urchin at risk.
In order for you to understand the context, I need to tell you this story. Everything seemed like a normal day in Big Bubble City, the big city near BubbleTucky. A city where there was a lot of constant activity. People were coming and going from their homes and their workplaces. Basically, it was a city that moved without rest. Which indicated that there were always situations or circumstances that needed to be reported. And that is the job of journalism. Of all the news networks in the area, a very important one was Marine News. This was an important news network that had the job of informing the entire population of things that happened in the city, surrounding areas and even international affairs. And this is where we are going to focus.
"...And that's the afternoon's report. I'm William Starman and we hope you can tune in to our next news edition on the evening broadcast. Have a nice afternoon, beloved viewers" William Starman, the famous reporter was the one who presented the latest news.
"And that's it...We're offline" A cameraman assistant reported.
"Pheww….That was good. I need a cappuccino after this report" William commented.
"You did as well as always, Starman" He was a lobster-like man with a curly moustache and short brown hair edged with white, and he smoked a pipe lightly. His name was Luke Newman. He wore his formal uniform with a red tie. He was the head of the news network.
"The bad thing is that lately people watch less TV. You know, now it's all about social media and the internet" William commented.
"And that's why we're updating ourselves. This news was broadcast to our social media and our own app, wasn't it?" Luke said confidently.
"That's right, boss" An assistant answered.
"Hmmm I feel like someone is missing…" The lobster man was thinking before someone appeared from the elevator.
"Mr. Newman, I have already arrived with the exclusive you requested. I just need to prepare the writing and it will be ready for publication" It was Urchin, our Urchin. We see our guppy in his work area.
"My good friend Urchin! How is my star journalist? How was that report?" Luke asked him.
"Very well, sir. My article on the efforts of the BubbleTucky wildlife refuge deserves more viewing. Perhaps with the photos and videos we can show good catches and perhaps some local government department can help them" Urchin expressed his plan.
"Not a bad idea. Environmental issues are interesting. You are good at that. I don't know how you get good information in that area" The lobster asked him.
"I-I-I…I have my reliable sources" Urchin remembered that his girlfriend was the employee of the animal shelter who helped him with the exclusive.
"Just prepare your writing. Send it to the editor and your blog will be posted on the news network's pages...And our social networks" Luke said excitedly.
"Sir, with all due respect, I don't like the editing team very much. They don't know how to differentiate editing from censorship. I remind you what happened when I tried to investigate some important issues involving certain people" Urchin raised his eyebrow.
"My friend, we cannot publish rumors or theories. We can only publish true and verifiable facts. This is part of real journalism" The boss explained.
"But there is also freedom of the press. I don't want to think that we can't expose certain issues without upsetting "those people." There are investigations that I want to start or continue and you don't give me the go-ahead…" The wheeled boy explained his point.
"You just do your job, Urchin...We get paid to do what we're told and that's it...Don't be a whiner" A snail boy, office worker and journalist said.
"Calm down, Wilbur...I like people with initiative like Urchin...Go back to your thing..." Luke ordered and the snail just rolled his eyes and obeyed.
"Okay, I'll do my part" Urchin wanted to continue with his mission until someone appeared.
"Oh honey! I missed you!" At that moment, an adult red-haired female guppy arrived with her top and tail scarlet red with silver diamonds. She wore extravagant earrings, rings and necklaces. Her eyes were brown and her skin was almost orange-brown from special tanning.
"Oh my beloved woman!" Luke approached her and they kissed on the lips quickly "What brings you here, love?"
"Today is our special lunch, did you forget?" The woman asked him.
"Of course not! Oh! That reminds me...Urchin! Wouldn't you like to have an executive lunch with us? It'll be the three of us…." Luke asked hin.
"Oh! That sounds like a great honor...But I don't want to be a third party between you two" Urchin denied at first.
"It's not a bother. Luke and I eat together all the time. It'll be a pleasure having you with us" She smiled kindly.
"Ahem! Oh my manners! This is my wife Lilith Newman. Honey, this is Urchin Lee-Rivers, one of my best employees" He introduced both of them.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Newman" Urchin wanted to be polite and formal.
"So you're the famous Urchin Lee-Rivers. My husband talks about you a lot. He mentions that you're an exceptional reporter. Although...I confess I was surprised to see that...you're a guy in a wheelchair. Nothing bad of course, it just took me by surprise" Lilith said gently.
"Don't worry, lady...Everyone does the same when they meet me" Urchin commented.
"And now that you know each other, we can go to lunch at my office. I'll pay for the meal" Luke said proudly.
"It is truly an honor, sir" Urchin said politely.
"The same can be said, prodigious journalist" Lilith winked a bit in a funny way. That made Urchin nervous, but it was meant to be friendly, so he took it lightly.
Meanwhile, we see Zooli at her workplace, performing many of her daily tasks. In fact, we see her performing routine check-ups on one of her "patients."
"Okay, buddy... You seem to be in better shape than when you arrived here. You'll have some rehabilitation sessions and we can get you back into the woods" Zooli said as she was tending to a rescued deer. The animal just looked calm and she immediately took it upon herself to bring the deer to its special room.
"How is our patient?" A fellow veterinarian came to ask our well-known guppy.
"He's fine. He's better than when he arrived here. Poor thing, he was injured by a poacher's trap" Zooli presented her the report.
"Ugh! We always have problems with illegal hunters...The important thing is that the deer can return to the forest" The vet commented.
"And not only that. Many of these released animals are monitored for natural research, documentation and even to track many of these hunters" Zooli added.
"That's true. This new strategy has improved the performance of this shelter and those of other nearby animal shelters. It should be presented at the conference coming up in a few months" Her coworker expressed.
"Although I would like to, I think I won't be able to be there. In a few months I'm probably going to get married" The purple-haired guppy said.
"W-What? Seriously? That's good news! I thought you wanted to be single forever. No strings attached" Her companion commented.
"Well, I had a boyfriend... The intention is to advance further in the relationship, right?" Zooli asked.
"If what you want is to tie yourself to a man for the rest of your life..." Her coworker debated.
"Marriage is so much more than that. Besides, I was the one who proposed to him" Zooli defended her own decision.
"I just hope you don't regret it" The other vet said, rolling her eyes.
"What a way to congratulate me, huh?" Zooli said tiredly. And without wasting any more time, they returned to their assigned tasks.
After a long work day, they both returned to their respective homes. Due to many responsibilities, they had not seen each other in person very often. However, they were in close contact thanks to messages, calls and even video calls, which they made at the end of their work day.
"...And besides having taken care of a few more animals, I'm planning when to take vacations for our wedding and honeymoon. How about going in the summer?" Zooli asked her now fiance.
"Sounds like a good idea. Although where we're going is going to be warm just like here. So it doesn't matter what time of year we go. Maybe we should take advantage of the offers" Urchin explained.
" You're right about that. But anyway... We talked a lot about me. Let's talk about you... How was your day?" Zooli asked her future husband.
"Oh! Well everything went well. Always reporting the news to the city as always behind the scenes hehe. Oh and today the boss invited me to lunch with him and his wife. That... That was an honor" Urchin explained a bit.
"Sounds great! I didn't know your boss was married" Zooli was a bit surprised.
"Oh yeah, I was surprised too. She's Lilith Newman and she seems to be someone important. A businesswoman, I think" The green-haired guppy answered.
"Hmmm I see" She said.
"Wait...I know that tone of voice. Don't tell me you're jealous?" Urchin raised his eyebrow.
"Me? Of course not. I just thought it was strange that you mentioned her" The girl commented.
"There's nothing to worry about. She's just my boss's wife. Besides, a woman with her reputation and status would never take notice of me. Additionally, you know perfectly well that I only have eyes for you. I mean, aren't we going to be husband and wife soon?" Urchin calmed her.
"You're right...I don't know what things went through my head" Zooli apologized.
"Don't worry. Nothing has happened. Just don't give it any importance, we have more important things... For example, we have to think about the place where we will have the ceremony" The boy in the wheelchair accepted the apology without any problem. The two continued their video call without any problems, as they wanted to continue planning their wedding. What neither of them knew was that this person could bring them some problems.
The next few days went by as normal. Urchin continued working as a photographer and journalist, always getting interviews and developing reports on these exclusives. However, something began to worry him a little.
"Hi, Urchin!" It was Lilith who had arrived at the offices of Marine News.
"Oh hello, Mrs. Newman. Are you waiting for Mr. Newman?" Urchin asked politely.
"Yes, I think I came early. Well, while I wait for him...What are you doing?" She asked him curiously.
"Oh….Just work stuff. I'm working on an exclusive on proposals to better manage inorganic waste without compromising environmental policies. It's an important issue that needs more visibility. I'm in charge of those news stories that don't give much information to the public. It's my specialty" Urchin explained about his main role.
"Wow, that sounds very interesting. So you're in charge of those secret news, huh?" She said with some interest, but something awkward happened. She discreetly touched Urchin's hand. Moreover, the boy noticed something inappropriate. The neckline of Lilith's blouse was large and slightly open and close to him. The boy decided to move his hand to avoid contact.
"Y-Yeah! In fact, I need to get this first draft to the editing department. See you later, Mrs. Newman" Urchin commented nervously and decided to leave. It was obvious that he made up an excuse to avoid being rude and causing a scandal in his work environment. Lilith saw that with a not very pleasant smile. I wish the awkwardness had stopped there. However, this type of behavior will happen again and again. On another day, this happened.
"(sigh) Very well. I need to polish better details and improve the quality of the photos. Nothing that a little editing wouldn't help" Urchin said as he worked on his computer. At that moment, Lilith came and placed her hands on his shoulders.
"Working really hard again?" Lilith asked him.
"Y-Yeah….I have to finish an article before tomorrow's meeting…" Urchin said a bit nervous.
"Oh….But I feel like you're too tense...I feel like you're working too much...You should learn to relax from time to time.." Lilith said that in a suggestive tone. The boy felt nervous because of the woman's touch. Again, he didn't want to cause a scandal because she was his boss's wife. So he did something smart.
"Ohhh! Look at the time! It's my lunch break. I have to go now" Urchin said nervously before moving and retreating.
"Wouldn't you like me to accompany you?" The woman guppy asked him with a smile.
"Oh no! I mean….I had already arranged to meet some colleagues from work. Besides, I think Mr. Newman is waiting for you. Have a nice day!" Urchin said quickly before taking the elevator out of her sight. On his lunch break, he was unable to enjoy his lunch. He was accompanied by some coworkers.
"I must admit that I envy the boss. Besides being rich, he has a very hot wife" A lobster commented.
"That's true. And in fact, she has been eyeing you, Urchin..." Wilbur, the snail said with a smirk.
"What are you talking about? Of course she doesn't like me. She has very different standards than I do. Besides, you know very well that I would never look at another woman. I have my fiancée" Urchin defended himself.
"Please don't be so "straight and faithful" with her. I mean, you're not married yet and you have freedom. Take advantage of the fact that she's noticing you. Besides, who doesn't fantasize about being with the boss's wife?" The lobster said.
"Please don't imply anything wrong. I don't have those kinds of "fantasies". Besides, her advances have been inappropriate" Urchin said seriously.
"What do you mean "inappropriate"? Please don't tell me you don't like girls" Wilbur asked him.
"Of course I do. But I already have my fiancée. Plus, she's getting really close to me without my consent" Urchin defended himself.
"Please, Lilith is very pretty. Who wouldn't want to be with her? You should take advantage of it" The snail commented.
"Let's stop talking about this topic please" The guppy demanded. The lobster agreed. Wilbur too, but in a reluctant way.
Things seemed to continue this way, with Lilith putting Urchin in uncomfortable situations such as making off-color comments or inappropriate touching and approaching. These situations happened often and Urchin thought about not telling anyone about the situation. Because no one would take him seriously. Besides, she was his boss's wife. In many ways, he was the one who was at a disadvantage. Whether it was because of her economic or even social position. However, things would take a slightly disturbing turn some time later. At the end of a work day, Urchin had been summoned to the boss's office to discuss an important issue. The wheelchair-bound boy didn't know what it was about, but he simply obeyed and went to the office before going home. He thought he could talk to him about his wife's actions. At that moment, Urchin arrived at the office to talk to him.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Newman. Did you need to talk to me?" Urchin arrived at his boss's personal office. But he didn't see anyone. So he walked over to the desk to wait for him. It was at that precise moment that someone entered the office and locked the door.
"My husband is not available at the moment, but I can leave him a message if you like" It was Lilith standing behind Urchin. The boy turned to look at her.
"Oh Hi-Hi….I just came to talk to Mr. Newman. But since he's not here, I can go now" Urchin was preparing to leave the office until she touched his shoulder.
"Actually...it was me who called you here. I was looking forward to being with you, dear Urchin" Lilith said with a suggestive tone.
"Oh, I see... But I think I have to go now. I have things to do outside of work..." Urchin wanted to make an excuse.
"Please, Urchin...I've wanted to be with you for a long time...You can't deny that you would like to be with someone like me" Lilith said before unbuttoning her blouse mischievously. Urchin got nervous and started to approach the door.
"Hey, I don't know what impression you have of me...But you should know that I can't...nor do I want to...So please stop doing what you-...But what?!" Urchin tried to open the door, but it was locked.
"Hey, that was rude. You can't just leave a beautiful woman like me like that" She said with some malice as she undressed.
"Hey, stop it now...Look, this is wrong...Very wrong! You're married, you're my boss's wife...And I'm engaged to someone else. This is wrong on so many levels…" The green-haired boy was starting to panic.
"That makes it more exciting, dear...No one has to find out about this little secret" She said seductively.
"Nonononono! I'm not going to do something like that...Help! HELP!" Urchin started screaming and banging on the door with his hands. She simply moved the chair away from the door. The boy got out of the chair and started to crawl towards the exit, but Lilith got on top of him and made him face her. He was shaking and sweating.
"You can scream all you want, but the office is noise-proof. So...why don't you relax a little, dear? And let me do all the work" Lilith said as she took off Urchin's shirt.
"Stop please! I don't want to do this...This is just for my future wife...I...I..." Urchin was scared.
"You say you don't want to, but it seems like your body is saying something else... Just relax, dear" Lilith smiled evilly.
"No…Nononono….Stop! Stop! NO…NOOOOOO!"
Unfortunately, she ignored Urchin's pleas. Because of her strength and the boy's disability, she had total control of the situation. It didn't take much for her to get rid of his clothes and hers. Even though the boy screamed, showed physical resistance and refused, she didn't obey him. On the contrary, she forced him further. And with total control of the situation, she was able to become intimate with him in a way that he didn't want. What she saw as pleasure and exciting desire, for him was a sexual aggression that he couldn't get out of. He never stopped fighting, but her strength was greater by comparison and in this way, she achieved her goal. Those minutes were eternal for our protagonist, minutes of suffering. After a while, everything stopped. We can see Urchin trembling on the ground, exhausted, sweaty and sobbing from helplessness for not being able to do more to get rid of her. He could only cover his body with the clothes that were left on the floor. Lilith simply began to get dressed.
"Wow, that was satisfying. I haven't felt this much pleasure in a long time. You're not doing too bad for a guy in a wheelchair" Lilith commented.
"Y-Y-Y-You….You just abused me…." Urchin said fearfully as he continued to tremble.
"Abuse? What an ugly word... But hey, there is no such thing as abuse by women against men. If it had been the other way around, I would believe you" The woman said cruelly.
"Of course it was wrong! I told you to stop and you never listened to me. This was against my will!" He defended himself.
"Don't blame me. I know you enjoyed it deep down. Hehehe...your "body" told me otherwise. Please, you should feel lucky...Do you know how many guys in this place would like to have what I did to you?" She asked seductively.
"You're a cynic! You're my boss's wife! This... This... I'll tell the authorities what you did!" Urchin screamed furiously.
"HAHAHA! Wait...are you serious? I hope this is a joke. Do you know what will happen if you open your mouth? A lot of bad things for you. First, the police won't believe you...Why? Because there are no cases of sexual abuse of women by men...But if I said that it was you who manipulated me into doing it...Hohoho! You'd be facing many years in prison...Besides, would anyone really believe you? Your boss, your colleagues, your family and friends? All they'll say is that you sought me out and we took advantage of the moment. Oh! The worst? If your beloved fiancée finds out...she'll think that you were unfaithful...So...if I were you...I'd keep that mouth shut...After all, you're the one who will always lose" Lilith explained in a wicked way. Urchin was just trying not to sob anymore, but he couldn't. He felt like his hands were tied. She simply took advantage of the boy's shock to kiss him on the mouth without his consent and whispered in his ear "Good boy...I hope you'll be more cooperative next time. Make sure you dress nicely and don't leave any clues...See you later, my lover..." Lilith said before leaving the office, leaving Urchin on the ground suffering in silence, not knowing what to do. The boy didn't get up for a while. And unfortunately, he felt cornered.
Needless to say, this was a traumatic experience for Urchin. It put him in a worrying mood. He didn't want to eat and couldn't sleep. And if he did manage to sleep, it wasn't pleasant, because he remembered that experience. He started crying alone, when there was no one around. And he tried to pretend to be okay in front of his family, friends and even his fiancée. He tried to show interest in her upcoming wedding, but he was consumed by the feeling of guilt for having "committed infidelity." That worried Zooli a little, who knew Urchin well. But he didn't comment on it. Even so, she didn't pressure him either. Everything would be "less worse" if it had only been a bitter experience. However, Lilith wasn't satisfied with just one time. At certain times, she would invite him to have short or long encounters, hiding from her partners. It was obvious that Urchin didn't want to do such things, but he had to do it if he didn't want her to expose him. Or worse, Zooli to find out somehow. That would ruin their relationship.
Unfortunately, that secret wouldn't last long. One day, Urchin wanted to surprise his fiancée with a gift. He had invited her to the park to give her the gift. However, she also had a surprise in store for him, but it wouldn't be a pleasant one.
"Zooli! I have to give you a surprise!" Urchin tried to be happy.
"...I also have a surprise... but it's not to my liking" Zooli said seriously.
"What are you talking about? You look very serious and...what's going on?" He was a bit worried about her attitude.
"And you still have the nerve to pretend? Urchin...I already know your secret...How could you?!" Zooli raised her voice annoyed.
"I don't understand, Zooli…."The wheelchaired guppy asked her.
"Stop lying to me! I already found out about your "affair" with her!" Zooli decided to show her fiancé her cell phone where she had a compromising video. Urchin saw it and what he saw scared him. It was his first intimate and secret encounter with Lilith. So that had been recorded!
"I-I-I can explain it" He said in a nervous and scared tone.
"There's nothing to explain! Everything is clear here! How could you do this to me?! We were just about to get married!" Zooli expressed her anger.
"Wait, I can explain it...I don't deny it, that...that happened...But the video doesn't tell the whole truth...I..." Urchin wanted to explain to her about the situation.
"I expected it from any guy I met who wanted to flirt with me...But...But I never expected it from you...That...hurt my soul a lot. You betrayed me" The dark purple-haired guppy expressed.
"You don't understand. What really happened was..."
"Nothing! I don't want to hear anything! I don't think I can hear you right now. But I'm sure of one thing: Our wedding is going to be postponed...indefinitely! And you know what that means!" She said loudly.
"No! No…Please…You don't…" Urchin was very sad.
"Not yet...But I'm going to seriously think about our relationship...Goodbye, Urchin" She simply left in a rage. But when he lost sight of her, she began to cry from sadness, rage and helplessness. She held back the urge to hit him out of anger, but more than anger, she felt pain. And on the other hand, Urchin left with his head down and great sadness. Everything indicated that the future of both would be uncertain from now on. How could a person manage to break an engagement... Whatever it is, perhaps this couple's wedding will be delayed... Or there simply won't be one.
No...I won't...I won't...I swore I wasn't going to...I can't stand it...BUAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! Damn, first episode of the year and I'm already crying! We started off too strong. A situation too serious and strong to start this year. Things went wrong too quickly. And believe me, it cost me a lot and it hurt me a lot to write this. The question is: How will our protagonists get out of this? Did Lilith end Urchin and Zooli's relationship? Will she get away with it? All I can say is, stay tuned for the next episode.
