Chapter 25: Last Stand
Sonic and Mina are in their home to get a call on their phones. "Guys, this is Shadow speaking. I need your assistance to assault Breezie's private island fortress," Shadow said.
"Finally, we can take down Breezie and get rid of her media empire for good," Mina said feeling excited about this.
"Well better to nail this and put her in jail," Sonic said.
"Meet me at the docks in Station Square. We will be waiting there," Shadow said to cut the line to see Whisper and Shard fully able to fight.
"Yo, you guys are going?" Tangle asked as she was still in her bed recovering with Ace still recovering in his medical pod.
"Yes, we are going to nail Breezie for all her crimes," Whisper said wielding her CAP weapon with her new robotic limbs. Whisper is thankful that Tangle got some frostbite but managed to heal properly. Whisper feels happy that her best friend is still alive but is worried about Ace waking up.
"Don't worry Ace is a fighter, he will survive. He is our great leader after all," Tangle said patting her on the shoulder.
"Yeah, but that moment of seeing you both motionlessly on the ground. It took me back to when my old team was wiped out by Metal Sonic right before the Black Arms invasion happened. I was so powerless to stop him," Whisper said as she used to have nightmares of Metal Sonic looming over the dead bodies of her old teammates.
"Come on. You didn't see that coming. It was Mimic who was to blame for that," Tangle said as Mimic was one of Whisper's old team members before he sold them out and drew them into an ambush with Metal Sonic.
"Yeah but still. The feeling is something I don't want to feel again. My weapons were useless against his magic," Whisper said.
"Well, I heard from Shard and Nicole that his magic can be countered by using Hyper-go-on energy from the Wisps," Tangle said.
"That's something to keep in mind," Whisper said as she can get an upgrade for her weapon.
"I am ready to go," Shard said as his body was at 100% and able to fight.
"Good. Team Dark move out," Rouge said as Whisper hugged Tangle.
"I will be back and visit you," Whisper said to adjust her combat suit and cloak.
"You better. Oh, you are looking pretty badass with those robotic arms," Tangle said.
"Yeah, they are okay. See you later" Whisper said as the four head into an airship to go towards Station Square.
Meanwhile Sonic and Mina are waiting for their ride as Mina is donning her adventure outfit to part her hair to see the GUN airship approaching. A helicopter hovers nearby to see Whisper allowing them inside.
"Good to see you guys," Whisper said
"How are you feeling Whisper?" Mina asked as Whisper looked down at the boots.
"Frightening, I have never faced anything like Naugus before. Even Black Doom wasn't that ruthless," Whisper said.
"Cool robot arms," Sonic commented.
"Yes, but they are temporary. I am getting my 3d printed arms very soon," Whisper said as she closed the door for them to enter the airship for them and three others to fly towards the location.
Mina gets a call from Tangle to see her face showing her bright smile. "Hey Mina girl. what's up?" Tangle asked.
'Tangle, are you okay?' Mina asked.
"Yes, I am okay. The doctors here are real whiz kids here. I got caught off guard, that is not happening again," Tangle said.
"Cool, we will figure out how to break his magic and bring the fight to him," Mina said.
"Yep, I am looking forward to that. Go kick some ass for me," Tangle said as she turns off the phone line.
"That Tangle, always seeking a new challenge to conquer," Whisper said to sport a smile.
"You have such a cute smile Whisper," Mina said.
"Oh really?" she asked.
"Yes, it's very beautiful. I can see why Ace would fall for you," Mina said as Whisper was glowing in the face.
"Oh yes, he said the same thing about my smile. He says it's the most beautiful smile he has ever seen," Whisper said as Mina cooed at this.
"That is so adorable. Hey, Whisper once Ace gets better. How about we go on a double date to Twinkle Park? There is a free couples' week coming up soon," Mina said.
"That would be nice when Ace's condition is stable and will be soon he will be able to get out of the medical wing," Whisper said.
"Cool," Mina said as both of the women looked out on the deck to the ocean below and the ships surrounding them.
Sonic is within the command center to see Rouge, Shadow, and Shard checking the status of Breezie's island fortress. "There are going to be a lot of defenses here. We are going to have to smash through the area but she will reinforce her inner defenses. Me, Sonic, and Shard will draw out the main forces while Rouge, Whisper, and Mina will sneak inside to catch Breezie by surprise," Shadow said as he set up his plan in motion.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Sonic said.
"Indeed, three hedgehogs will be too much for Breezie," Shard said as Sonic gave the friendly metal sonic a high five.
"No doubt," Sonic said as they went into the sky to head for their mission objective.
Elsewhere Whisper is holding onto a locket to see a picture of herself and Ace enjoying themselves at the beach. She holds it tight in her hand and places it on her chest to hold her CAP weapon to switch it to Needler mode.
Whisper and Mina wait for Rouge to come in. "Okay, we are going to sneak using a stealth chopper and drop us deep within enemy lines," Rouge said.
"Cool, let's do this," Mina said as Whisper cocks her gun.
"I'm ready," Whisper said as she put her mask over her face for the three women to get into the chopper to go ahead.
"Time to get serious and give Breezie one hell of a distraction," Sonic said as the three hedgehogs were on top of the airship with soldiers, Big Foot walkers, robotic troopers, and mech suits preparing for the assault on the base.
Elsewhere Breezie is in her command center as Scratch and Grounder are within another robot called the Egg Genesis. "Manned that battle station. That is key to holding back the enemy forces," Breezie said on the radio.
"Well Madam, you can count on us," Scratch said as Breezie sighed at this.
"I doubt that but the power of the Egg Genesis is idiot-proof. It has multiple weapon pods and over a hundred thousand troopers inside. I should be able to hold on until I can come up with a plan," Breezie said as she called Coconuts who is manning the Egg Cerberus.
"Mistress I am in the Egg Cerberus. I am guarding the back entrance," Coconuts said.
"Good, keep watch. I am expecting them to sneak back my defenses to try to capture me," Breezie said.
"Of course, keep watching," Breezie said as she looked at her monitor to prepare the Egg Wyvern just in case.
Several GUN Airships are approaching the island with Rouge, Mina, and Whisper sneaking deep within the island bypassing their defenses. "Units on standby, we are detecting anti-air cannons being deployed," the captain said to Shadow for them to be rocked by explosions but their shields were holding up.
"Sonic and Shard, grab my shoulder," Shadow said as they held him there with Shadow using Chao Control to teleport onto the beach to see a ton of robotic forces there.
"Kill Hedgehogs," the Swat-bots open fire but Shard puts up a Black Shield which is a very powerful barrier to protect them from the wave of lasers and missiles. Shard transforms his arm into a chain gun to pepper explosive bullets to tear apart legions of Swat-bots. He lunges and rams his fist into a Hover Unit and tosses it into an Assault Walker destroying them both.
Shadow is warping around to kick and punch down several robots. Shadow teleports in the middle of a huge group of robots. "Chaos Blast," Shadows summons a powerful blast of Chaos energy to blow all surrounding bots away turning them to scrap metal.
"Chaos Spear," Shadow tosses energy spears to knock Hover Units out of the sky.
"Hey Shard, how did you get so strong?" Sonic asked as he was using Homing Attack to destroy Swat-bot.
"I am using a Chaos Drive but one of the bigger models to give me power," Shard uses his sharp claws to tear into Swat-bots as he uses his jets to fly through groupings of robots leaving behind piles of scrap.
"Good to know," Sonic uses a Spin Dash to cut down groups of enemies.
"Hold it right there hedgehog," Scratch said as a huge battle station floats above the beach to unleash a barrage of missiles and lasers. The three hedgehogs avoided all the attacks with Shard focusing his energy on his chain gun arm.
"Plasma Pulse," Shard fires a full-charged energy burst to crash into the Egg Genesis causing a series of explosions to put a few dents into the huge mech.
"Gee, how rude Metal Sonic. You bloody traitor," Scratch said as he saw Shard has been upgraded by GUN over the years.
"I turned over a new leaf unlike you relics from the past. Still stuck in the past too," Shard said as the GUN airships opened fire on the huge battle station putting up a shield to protect themselves.
"Gee, these hedgehogs are doubling up lately," Grounder said to see a blue hedgehog, a black hedgehog, and a robot hedgehog. Scratch slaps him upside the head.
"No, you moron. That is Sonic, Shadow and Metal Sonic aka 'Shard' as he calls himself these days," Scratch said.
"They seem the same to me," Grounder said.
'That's because you are a massive idiot," Scratch said as GUN began landing their forces all over the island to encircle the area. "As long as this battle station is working. We can still hold this island long enough for the boss to think of something," Scratch said.
"That shield will be problematic. All airships make distance and encircle, we will take care of the battle station," Shadow said as they used their speed to avoid incoming barrages of projectiles blowing holes in the beach. "I going to knock out its shield generator," Shadow teleports within the shield to land on top of the huge mech.
Turrets pop up on the surface of the mech as Shadow blows them up with precise Chaos Spears. He spots the shield generator as he tosses a Chaos Spear to slam into his target. He blows it up and teleports back near Sonic and Shard as the shield disappears.
"Gee, it doesn't matter. Time to employ the legions of troops," Scratch opens the battle station's massive arms to drop a ton of robots onto the beach. "Taste this you rats," he screamed as the three hedgehogs dashed into the fray to smash through hordes of machines with their attacks.
Shard scans the hull to check for weakness. "Got it," Shard powers up his jets to go towards the Egg Genesis.
"What the hell, open fire," Scratch said as Shard was firing his Plasma Pulse attack to blow away the arms of the huge mech. "Stop it you traitor," Scratch said as Shard destroyed three of the four arms. He aims his chain gun arm to fully charge a Plasma Pulse to blow the last arm to scrap.
"This ends here Scratch and Grounder," Shard flies towards the giant battle station as Scratch pushes a button to bring up another shield.
"Another shield?" Sonic questioned as Scratch laughed at them.
"Always have a backup plan. These shields can block shots from GUN capital ships. I doubt you can break it, buddy," Scratch said as Shard looked on with confidence.
"You want to bet on that," Shard empowers his whole body to be engulfed with energy pushing his systems beyond their normal limits. "Overdrive times 2," Shard is overwhelmed with power for everything is increased by double.
Scratch looks worried as the shield is beginning to fail. "How did he get strong so fast?" Scratch questioned.
"Unless you two, I am not locked to the past anymore. My rivalry died with Sonic years ago and now I have someone worth fighting for," Shard has his mind on Nicole's sweet smile which pushes him to power up further to see the powerful barrier failing.
"No, this is impossible," Grounder said as they tried to increase power but it was useless. Shard manages to pierce through the shield and the Egg Genesis with a powerful dash attack. The mech was no more and it exploded taking out Scratch and Grounder with it.
"Now that was tight Shard," Sonic gives the Metal Sonic a high five.
"Thanks, now we can move forward and take this island," Shard said.
"All units move in. Close off all routes on this island," Shadow ordered as GUN forces were surrounding the island.
Breezie looks on to see the Egg Genesis has been lost and her defenses have been cut by 75%. "Damn it, I need to take matters into my own hands," Breezie goes onto a lift and heads for the hanger to get into the Egg Wyvern.
Elsewhere Rouge, Whisper, and Mina set down deep behind enemy lines to go forward to see the huge battle station was destroyed in a big explosion. "Well, there goes the defenses and now we are going to arrest Breezie," Rouge said as the female trio rushed through the forest to see tons of defenders blocking their way to the fortress.
"Here's the red carpet," Mina leashes out fireballs to blast incoming Swat-bots. She blasts and kicks enemy troopers making them into the scrap pile. "Hover," Mina launches a wave of energy to make several robots float helpless in the air. Mina leashes out a large electric whip to slice up the robots to pieces.
Whisper is sniping targets with her CAP in Laser Mode as she switches to RPG mode to launch rockets to blast Hover Units out of the sky. Whisper fires a rocket into an Assault Walker to blow them to bits as she rolls out of the path of a charging Assault Walker.
She switches to Drone mode as she fires the disc into the air for it begins to spin laser bolts in 360 degrees. It tears apart everything in its path with Rouge ducking under a tree.
She places a bomb onto a tree to trigger the blast to make the large tree fall on top of a group of robots to crush them under its weight. Rouge is kicking down several robots as she tosses remote bombs to set off explosions killing them off.
Mina unleashes her Rhythm color power to let out a powerful sonic scream from her mouth to blow away several groups of robots. The Egg Cerberus lands on the ground to unleash a big shockwave to knock the girls into trees.
"Hello girls, here to crash the party," Coconut said to be within the Egg Cerberus's cockpit.
"Oh, not you again. Can you take a hint," Mina said as she peppered the robot with fireballs. "You two go on ahead, I will take care of this," Mina said as she fired an electric blast to stun the robot.
"Alright, be careful," Whisper said as the two went forward with Mina taking care of Coconuts. Mina combines her Burst and Lightning color powers to form Plasma orbs. She is scoring heavy hits on the Egg Cerberus as her Plasma attacks were truly powerful.
Coconuts is surprised by how powerful Mina is. "What in the world," Coconut lunges at Mina as she uses Drill to go underground to avoid his attack. "Hey, where did you go rat?" Coconut demanded.
"Eat this," Mina pops right under the metal beast to use her Drill form to stab into the underbelly. Mina uses her Ghost state to let the robot's attacks pass harmlessly through her.
"Why can't you die alright," Coconut said as she fired more Plasma shots to break away more armor to make the robot dog more exposed.
Mina empowers her body with the Burst power to use a Flame Boost to slam into the side of the metal beast to knock it down. The Egg Cerberus does a spinning tackle as Mina is dodging his attacks.
She spots the head is exposed to get ready for her next move. "Asteroid + Bomb," Mina is flinging explosive clones to strike the cockpit several times until it explodes.
"No, sorry Mistress I failed you," Coconuts gets wiped out by the explosions, and the Egg Cerberus is destroyed.
"Well, that is done. I need to catch up with the others," Mina uses her speed to enter into the back of the fortress with Rouge and Whisper cutting through robots to head for the command center.
Breezie sees the three women on the camera to be quite angry that her assistants failed her. "Well useless to the end. Better take off and wipe them out," Breezie is in the cockpit of the Egg Wyvern to prepare to take off in her hanger.
She flies out into the sky as Sonic, Shadow, and Shard hear a roar to see a large metal dragon hovering in the air. "that's not good," Shard said as Mina noticed the large dragon use Drill to scale up the fort to be on top of the roof to confront Breezie.
"Breezie," Mina said as the metal dragon loomed over her.
"You ruined everything, you little bitch. My media empire is ruined by your photos," Breezie.
"That was your fault Breezie. I did nothing but expose the truth that you are a horrible woman who only cares about making money by exploiting nature and people turning them into robots," Mina said.
"You know Mina, you and I would have made one hell of a team. Your singing talent and my connections, we have been unstoppable in the media world," Breezie said.
"I would rather die than join with a corporate suit like you. All you do is exploit until there is nothing left. Honey is a tool to you until you find another doll you can play with. I am going to stop you for good," Mina said as the Egg Wyvern lets out a sonic scream to knock Mina on her ass.
"This is one of Eggman's best mechs. I hope you are ready for it," Breezie said as she began circling the fort to start launching laser strikes to damage the huge complex. Mina dodges her incoming attacks as the Egg Wyvern fires rapid plasma bolts. Mina backflips away from the strikes.
"Eat this," she tries zapping it with lightning bolts with its spike on its head like a lightning rod. It draws the thunderbolts to it and absorbs it into the machine.
"Unleashing Gaia Cannon, open fire," Breezie charges energy into the machine's mouth and then fires a huge orb of lightning heading for Mina.
"Oh crap," she uses Laser to get out of the blast radius for the attack and unleashes a massive explosion which destroyed half of her fortress leaving a crater behind. "That is some serious firepower," Mina said not wanting to get hit by that powerful energy cannon.
"Don't think I will go down so easily Mina. I am going to enjoy turning you into a pile of ash," Breezie said as she got hit by a laser cannon for she looked over to see a GUN airship firing their weapons at her Egg Wyvern. "Fools," Breezie goes after the airship as she fires another Gaia Cannon shot.
The energy orb smashes through the ship's energy barrier and strikes the hull. The explosion wipes out the entire airship turning it into falling scrap. "Now it's your turn, die," Breezie said as Mina is dodging her rapid-fire plasma shots and homing missiles.
"Hover," she made the missiles float and wave them back to the Egg Wyvern. The robot took some damage with Mina following up with plasma orbs to strike on the weakened area. Breezie sees the Egg Wyvern has 70% hull integrity left.
"Mina, you could have been on the winning side but no. You have your little honor about being an indie star," Breezie mocks her as Mina is using both Ghost and Asteroid color powers to evade her weapons. Mina raises a huge stone wall to block incoming missiles to take the shots.
"Damn proud of it, I will climb to the top with my own two feet and not rely on a soulless company like yours. Rocket + Bomb," she launches several energy rockets into the air to emit a series of cluster explosions. Breezie tries to avoid it but gets caught in a cluster strike knocking her back onto the roof.
Mina drives her powerful kicks empowered by the Quake color power to crush the hull of the machine with each strong strike. "Spike," Mina turns into a pink spike ball and uses a powerful Spin Dash to slam into the head to deliver some serious damage.
Breezie knocks Mina aside with her wings to see the mech has 50% hull integrity. Breezie is starting to panic as the Egg Wyvern is showing battle damage. The Egg Wyvern lunges at Mina as she kicks the head knocking it back. "Bomb + Spike," she summons energy sawblades above her palms as she flings them at the metal monster.
The energy sawblades dig into the sides of the Egg Wyvern as the discs explode weakening the weapon further.
Mina tosses more explosive discs to strike the wings to blow up the joints making the Egg Wyvern grounded. Its wings are too damaged to be able to fly again.
"I am Breezie Hedgehog, owner of the most powerful media empire on this planet. I will not fall to some dumb naïve pop star," Breezie makes the Egg Wyvern swing its tail as Mina dodges by ducking under a tail swipe.
Mina tosses a mini black hole to strike the tail to make it disappear via implosion. The Egg Wyvern is on its last legs for it only has 20% hull integrity. "Egg Wyvern systems are in critical condition. Eject ASAP," the computer said.
"No Breezie, you are just a sad woman. Burst + Laser," Mina conjures a ball of flames in her palms and thrusts her palms forward to unleash a huge beam of flames.
"Stop, no!" Egg Wyvern fires a Gaia Cannon as the two attacks collide but Mina's attack overpowers the Gaia Cannon attack and strikes the robot to destroy the entire body turning it into a burning wreck. The head is what remains to crash onto the roof with Breezie flopping out of the cockpit.
"Damn it, damn you Songoose," Breezie blacks out and falls onto the ground.
"It's over," Mina said on the radio with Rouge and Whisper fighting into the command center to see if the computers were still active. Whisper draws out her pistol to blast the heads of Swat-bots to clear out the room.
"Excellent, we managed to get into the command center and secured it," Rouge said.
"I got Breezie here on the roof waiting for pick up," Mina said.
"Thanks, Mina, Breezie is going to jail for a long time," Rouge said as GUN fully secured the island, and Breezie was put in handcuffs to be dragged into an airship.
"Thank you Sonic and Mina, we can take this from here. We will drop you back onto the docks," Shadow said.
"No problem Shadow, give us a call and we can help," Sonic said
"Yeah, we are happy to help again," Mina said as Shadow nodded his head. Mina looks over to see Whisper taking a break by the window to look outside the ship. "So how are you feeling?" she asked.
"I am pretty good. Busting this woman is needed to make this world a better place. You did pretty well stopping that mech," Whisper said as Mina felt humbled by her praise.
"It's nothing, stopping Breezie is what matters most," Mina said.
"Well, we are making progress. I hope to see you on that double date at Twinkle Park," Whisper said.
"Looking forward to it," Mina said as she gave her a friendly hug for Shadow to drop the duo off. The day has ended with Breezie now going to jail and her media empire a thing of the past.
