Chapter 4 Semester exams.

Chapter 4 Midterm exams.
(Morning of the next day. 06:30am.)
"Gumball! Hey, Gumball!" Darwin says, while shaking Gumball to try to wake him up. "Wake up, Gumball! We're going to be late!"
"Hmmm..." Gumball groans in frustration as he continues to lie down.
"Let's go, Gumball! Or we'll miss the bus!" Darwin moves Gumball's body harder.
"Right..." Gumball reluctantly gets up, his body still feeling heavy.
"Let's get some breakfast!" Darwin runs out of the bedroom and quickly down the stairs.
"Hmmm..." Gumball groans as he gets up and starts walking to the bathroom.
Grabbing his toothbrush, he begins to brush his teeth and clean his face. After a while he goes down to the kitchen and sees everyone sitting at the table eating breakfast.
"Good morning, everyone." Gumball says as he sits down at the table.
"Good morning!" They all say at the same time.
"You were pretty tired yesterday." Anais says as she eats a piece of toast.
"Really, you just got home and went to bed. You slept all afternoon." Nicole says as she sips her coffee.
"I'm sure school must have been very tiring." Ricardo says as he puts tuna, mayonnaise, ham and cheese on a sandwich.
"Yeah... that's right..." Gumball picks up a piece of toast and takes a bite.
"And why did you give me your paycheck? Don't you want to spend it on something fun?" Nicole asks, taking a spoonful of her scrambled eggs and taking a bite.
"I just... don't feel like spending it anyway." Gumball says, picking up a glass of juice and drinking it.
"Usually, when Mom gives you some money, you spend it on the same thing. On games, sweets or nonsense." Anais says with a raised eyebrow.
"I just don't want to spend it." Gumball finishes his juice and eats the rest of his toast. "Let's go, Darwin!" Gumball picks up his backpack and leaves the house.
"Hold on, you're not going without me!" Darwin says as he quickly picks up his backpack and runs after Gumball.

"Have you heard about this new hero?" A girl gossips to a group of girls.
"I heard. And did you see that he took on that creature?" Another girl speaks up.
"My brother was in the crowd. He said the monster appeared out of nowhere and started jumping all over the place while growling." Another girl speaks.
Gumball and Darwin listened to the conversation while Gumball was deep in thought.
"This new hero is pretty cool, isn't he? Gumball!" Darwin turns excitedly to Gumball.
"It really is! This hero is very cool and hip!" Gumball says, gloating a little.
"And look at his name. Blade. What a stylish name!" Darwin says, sounding even more excited.
"Hehe! You seem pretty excited." Gumball laughs lightly.
"But of course! You know better than anyone that I love superheroes!" Darwin says as he spreads his arms in excitement.
"Yeah... your stack of Batman and Iron Man comics says it all." Gumball says in a comical tone.
"Hi kids!" A wiry girl stands over the seat of the bus where Gumball and Darwin are.
"Oh, hi Sarah!" Darwin greets her.
"Hi, Sarah! Do you need anything?" Gumball asks, looking at the girl.
"It's just that we have our end-of-semester exams today, so I was wondering if we could get together to do some last studies in the library?" Sarah says with a smile on her face.
"Fine with me!" Darwin says, returning her smile.
"We don't have much choice, do we?" Gumball says, knowing that his grades aren't very good.
"So, I'm coming with you!" A ghost girl flies up to the boys.
"Hi, Carrie!" Darwin greets the ghost girl.
"Could I come too?" Penny says, approaching the four of them.
"AH... of course you can!" Gumball says with a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Then why don't we all get together and have a study club in the library?" The girl with the spiky green hair and green skin suggests to everyone.
"Yeah, that's kind of a good idea." Tobias says thoughtfully.
"Then let's all get together to study and help each other out." The balloon boy (Allan) says to the people on the bus and they all agree.
"This is going to be a long day..." Gumball mutters as he rests his head on the bus window.

(10:35am.)
Everyone in Gumball's class is together at a huge table in the library reading and studying. Gumball is reading a chemistry book while doing some research on his cell phone, as this is his worst subject.
"Does anyone here know about equations and chemical enthalpy?" Gumball asks, turning to the guys.
"I know about it!" The Japanese girl says and walks over to Gumball.
"Thanks, Masami!" Gumball and Masami read the book and do some research.
"Does anyone here know about colonization?" Darwin says.
"Me, I can help!" Alan says, walking over to Darwin.
"Complex math equations, does anyone know?" Penny asks the group.
"Oops, me here!" Sarah says excitedly and walks over to Penny.
"Does anyone know about physics?" Tobias says, looking at the group.
"Me here!" Darwin says excitedly as he walks over to Tobias.
The group continues in the library, studying for a while longer. Until the class break arrives, because after midday the mid-semester exams will begin.

(11:55am.)
Everyone was in their classroom. Everyone is sitting in their seats and waiting for the bell to ring so that the exams can begin. Most seem nervous, but some are relatively calm.
"Can we get a high mark?" Darwin approaches Gumball and whispers.
"Maybe. But I'm not sure." Gumball whispers back.
"I just hope these tests aren't too hard..." Tobias mutters as he looks nervous.
(12:00am.)
Everyone hears the bell ring and the door to the room opens, with Miss Simian entering the room carrying several papers.
"Here's the deal, you little pests!" Miss Simian places the pile of papers on the table abruptly, making everyone in the room shudder. "You'll have four exams in a row. Math, History, Chemistry and Physics! Do you understand?"
Everyone nods silently. Miss Simian gives a mischievous smile and looks at everyone in the class.
"You'll have four hours to finish your exams! Good luck!" Miss Simian smiles and walks over to the students, handing them each the four exam papers.
[...]
"Okay... just do some thinking..." Gumball thinks for a while looking at the equations. "Oh my God! I'm screwed!" Gumball thinks in despair.
"Okay... if I put the zero on the other side... and I can't find the answer..." Darwin bites his pencil as he looks at his proof.
"Okay... with what we studied last minute, we can answer something..." Masami looks at the test and then sighs deeply. "Yeah... we're lost..."
"Ouch, ouch! If I don't get a good grade..." Tobias mutters. "Will I still be able to play video games?"
[...]
"Help!" Gumball whispers as he stares at the dozens of chemical calculations on his exam paper. "I'm lost... I'm lost... Gumball despairs.
"Oh, boy... if I get a bad grade, Mom's going to give me one of those scoldings..." Darwin thinks while sounding cold.
"It's a good thing we had that study group..." Penny smiles, managing to answer most of the questions.
"Okay... okay... focus, Gumball!" Gumball takes a deep breath and looks at his test again. "I can do it... I didn't study for just over an hour for nothing!"

(03:58pm.)
Miss Simian watched the students taking their exams, glancing at her wristwatch and silently counting the seconds as she waited for the collection time.
"Soon..." Miss Simian mutters as she watches her wristwatch. Finally the time arrives.
(04:00pm.)
"Time's up. Everyone, hand in your exam papers!" Miss Simian says and everyone relaxes their bodies as they sigh.
"Finally..." Gumball melts into his chair as he relaxes his body.
"I thought my head was going to explode!" Darwin says exhausted.
"At least the worst is over..." Masami says, laying his head on the table.
"Finally... let's go home soon..." Tobias said, already looking like he was sweating.
"Calm down. You still have one more thing to do." Miss Simian says, leaving everyone surprised and incredulous.
"WHAT?!" Everyone asks at the same time, not believing what they've just heard.
"It's no big deal. You'll just have to write a short 15-line report." Miss Simian says.
"AHH WHAT IS IT?!" Everyone speaks at once again.
"Calm down, I haven't told you what the report will be about yet." Miss Simian says, trying to be frank. "You paid a visit to Elmore's archaeological company, B.O.A.R.D."
"B.O.A.R.D?" Gumball mutters, listening to her words.
"The report is simple. You will visit the company and report on any workers there." Miss Simian speaks.
Everyone murmurs about this archaeological company that most of them don't know about. The murmurs continue until Gumball raises his hand.
"Miss Simian, what about those who already work there? How's that?" Gumball says.
Everyone except Darwin looks at Gumball and remains silent, just watching him.
"WHAT!" All the students shout in disbelief.

(05:00pm.)
"We're here!" Darwin says as he enters his house.
"Finally! Gumball says, already tired of so many questions from his classmates.
"You took your time." Anais says as she relaxes on the sofa.
"What did you hear that took you so long?" Ricardo asks as he sits on the sofa with Anais.
"My friends found out that I work for B.O.A.R.D. and they've been asking me all sorts of questions..." Gumball says tiredly as he sits down on the sofa.
"I'm going to have a snack." Darwin says, going into the kitchen. "Where's Mom, anyway?"
"Really, where is she?" Gumball asks, turning to Anais and his father.
"Ouch, ouch! Dad..." Darwin enters the room, carrying two sandwiches. He hands one to Gumball.
"Thanks..." Gumball takes a bite of the sandwich and thinks.
"But anyway, what do you want to do now?" Anais says, turning to her two brothers.
Gumball and Darwin look at each other before turning back to Anais.
"We're going to play video games." They both reply at the same time.

(11:45pm.)
"Ahh... what a tiring day..." Nicole sighs as she enters her house.
Seeing the house clean and clutter-free, she sighs with relief again. Going into the kitchen to make herself a snack, she sees Gumball sitting at the kitchen table while looking at something that looks like a letter with a beetle on it.
"Gumball, are you still tied up?" Nicole says in surprise.
"Hi, Mom..." Gumball says hello while still looking at the Change letter.
"You couldn't get to sleep?" Nicole asks, going to the fridge and grabbing a carton of milk.
"No. I just... I'm thinking..." Gumball says as he fiddles with the letter in his hand.
"Were you stressed about the exams today?" Nicole picks up a glass and fills it with milk.
Nicole approaches the table and sits down next to Gumball.
"More or less. I was kind of desperate, but I think I did okay..." Gumball lays his head on the table as he continues to look at the letter.
"Oh, dear!" Nicole approaches Gumball and gives her son a hug. "If there's anything wrong, you can tell me."
"Yes..." Gumball returns the hug, enjoying the moment with his mother.
"Now go to sleep. You still have school tomorrow." Nicole speaks in a calm but firm tone of voice.
"Right..." Gumball gets up to go to his room.
But he comes back. Giving Nicole another hug, he runs back towards his room.
"Ow, ow... what's wrong, Gumball?" Nicole mutters, watching Gumball run up the stairs towards his room.

Note: As this story takes place in the middle of 2018, there will be some commemorative dates in the future. And as you can see, the responsibilities of being a Rider are starting to cross Gumball's mind.
