Chapter 9: More Missions, More Threats
So far, the new Justice League has a new lead on the mysterious Legion group. While they have disabled their machines thus far, they are yet to uncover what their plan is. But now they have a new face. Doctor Polaris. Who is he? What are his motives? Why is he leading this Legion?
Hiding out in their base in a swamp, they discuss important matters regarding their plan. And with them, Polaris has invited a mysterious guest.
"Your machines have been trashed by the new League. So much for your genius. This shitty plan of yours is next to ruin." Captain Cold claimed.
"I said that we would use them to find the mysterious spot. I didn't say anything about them being kept intact. Thankfully, my assassin has been working with the last one without notice. The Justice League are growing thin. Even Batman isn't stupid enough to take us on by himself." Polaris said.
"Knowing him very well, you got that right." Poison Ivy defended. "A shame. I always had a thing for the bat. I love it when he plays hard to get."
"Save the flirtiness for somewhere else, woman of weeds. People wonder how many times he has to knock you upside the head so you'd get the message." Deadshot rudely insulted her.
"Awe, what's the matter, big boy? Sad you can't be with your daughter and wife that both hate you? See what happens when you make poor love choices." Poison Ivy shot back.
"You don't get to bring them into this! You helped Gorilla Grodd kidnap me! It's partly your fault I can't even be across the street from them!" Deadshot began to argue with her.
Two huge metal parts suddenly attack Deadshot and Ivy and pin them both to the wall.
"Enough!" Polaris shouted, holding his hands up. "I have built this Legion. And I won't hesitate to set examples of punishments for you two. But fortunately for you, I am in the mood. Besides, we have an important guest here." Polaris releases them as the three walk back to the circle. As they all sat down, a mysterious hooded figure comes in and joins them.
"You make quite the leader, Doctor Polaris." The mysterious man said. "Now. For those who are confused on why me and Polaris constructed your machines."
"What are they meant for other than wasting our time? It's not to call Superman and Wonder Woman back to Earth." Cheetah said as she sharpened her claws.
"Much more than that, dear. They will return. Superman is locked up in a place called the Phantom Zone. But the real reason is because there is something hidden on this planet. Created since this planet existed and has survived an apocalypse, survived every war. And one of a kind. It is something that can manipulate and control all life. Not just on this planet. But the entire universe." The hooded man said.
This gains the interest of everyone in the Legion. Manipulating and controlling the lives of everyone on Earth and beyond? That definitely sounds promising to them compared to simply making a deal with Brainiac to allow them to conquer Earth. Everyone can imagine what their lives would be like if they got their hands on this new finding.
Cheetah imagines herself slaying, killing and enslaving the Amazons and conquering Themyscira. Deadshot would be happy to see his wife and daughter again. Scarecrow would make everyone fear him without the need of his fear toxins, but could use them for far worse. As for Captain Cold and Ivy, they could conquer different regions. In Ivy's case, make armies out of slaves and Captain Cold could have scientists create cryomancer weapons. But Polaris remains quiet about all of this.
"What about you, Polaris?" The hooded figure turned to him. "What are your goals, should you get your hands on our findings?"
"Let's just say some of us tend to have more of a personal, private business. But other than that, be the first redeemed and refined scientist. Superior to Batman, have powers superior towards the Green Lantern. Superior leadership skills compared to Superman." Polaris said with a slight hint of anger in his tone. The man under hood hides a smirk.
"I like this one." The man said. "The first three have remained accurate to Polaris' satellite. We just have to wait for the last one to give us the last of the coordinates. And then we will find it within the Earth's surface." The man said.
"It won't be long now. It should take enough hours for my spy to make sure that the last coordinates are given. And then after that, that's where we will find what we are looking for. I will send David Hyde to assist him." Polaris said. "For now, make no more movements. We do not want Batman and his new friends to find us and commit breaking and entering."
As everyone splits up, the mysterious hooded man remains behind and quietly chuckles to himself. Just who is this guy exactly?
At the Titans tower, the teenagers were relaxing from the exercises and training they have been doing. But it ended shortly because of Terra having a mental breakdown and passing out. Thankfully, Starfire was able to calm her down. Unlike everyone else, she has struggled to move on from the past. With her being disowned and losing Beast Boy no thanks to the Joker.
Firestorm and Blue Beetle talk about her in private.
"Man. Poor girl. She deserves to be part of a familia like this. Hopefully she'll be alright after this." Blue Beetle feels bad for Terra.
"Yeah. But thank god we didn't get killed ourselves. Last thing we needed was to get crushed by a boulder like mere bugs." Jason said.
"Jason!" Blue Beetle yelled.
"That was insensitive of you. Terra has been going through a lot of trauma compared to everyone else on the team. Being a team member is about considering one's emotions and how they feel." Professor Stein scolds him.
"Sorry. I wasn't trying to be a jerk to her. I mean, I'm not used to being around these guys. We barely know each other." Jason defended himself.
"I understand that. That's another reason why Bruce asked you two to join the Teen Titans. Maybe someday when you're all older, you can all sit at the big table." Professor Stein reminds them.
"Yeah. Better late than never." Blue Beetle backs him up. "I mean most of these guys were locked in that Phantom Zone. Now that Superman is in there, there's nothing for us to worry about."
"I guess so. Still, it sucks that they've been through so much crap. Wish we've known these guys sooner, but yeah. Good point, Jaime." Jason agrees.
"One step at a time, you two. For now, until we hear from Batman about any new movements, we stay where we are. He's been searching for the Legion for some time. I don't know what they're up to though." Professor Stein said.
"Hopefully it won't come into play." Blue Beetle said.
"We can hope so too, Jaime." Stein nodded.
Starfire and Cassandra Cain sit by her side as she begins to wake up. Terra groans and has a huge headache. She tries to sit up, only for Starfire to place a hand on her forehead to lay her back down.
"Easy, friend. You're gonna be fine. Proper rest, comfort and some healthy food to eat will help ease the pain." Starfire gives Terra a friendly smile.
"Ugh. What… what happened? How long was I out for?" Terra asked.
"For about a few hours. You gave us quite the scare there. How you feeling?" Cain asked out of worry.
"I feel kinda blurry. My head hurts like hell." Terra replied before she remembered something. "Oh no. I did it again, didn't I?"
Starfire and Cassandra both looked at each other with reluctance on their faces before Starfire spoke up. "You did. We restrained you while I used the technique on Tamaran to help calm you down." Starfire as she placed her hand on her forehead.
"I'm…. I'm sorry. I don't know what the heck is going on? It's the second time I lost control of myself since I joined the team. I hope I didn't hurt anyone." Terra fears.
"Oh, don't worry. We can take some hits. We're fine." Cassandra gives her a friendly smile. Terra sighs in relief.
"But I could have killed someone. What if–" Terra tries to speak before Kori shushes her.
"Don't say negative things like that. It will only cause you more pain than what you have already. What happened was not your fault. Nobody on this team is perfect." Starfire said to her.
"But how I can I control something like this? It could get worse and worse for all we know. I don't want to hurt anyone." Terra feels scared. She feels her own hands trembling. Starfire shows some sadness in her eyes and scoots closer.
"Terra. Terra, you are not alone anymore. You are among friends and family. Look at me." Kori said and Terra looked into her pure green eyes. "I felt the exact same way when I first came to this planet. I once believed that I would not fit among the lives of Earth. But then I met Dick Grayson. I also had other friends. His father, Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Cyborg, Raven. Cassandra and Connor. And Beast Boy and Kid Flash. We made such a great team. That was until that tragic day with the Joker. From there, things changed. I lost most of my friends. Including Dick. I loved him. And I mourned him. Since the end of Superman's reign over this planet, I have learned to move on from what happened. Batman grieved for his son, and he was wise not to drown within his grief and move on. From that moment on, I found new friends here, you included."
Terra didn't think of that. She had no idea that someone else would go through such tragic changes within one's life. She thought that she was the only one who lost friends and had no family in her lifetime. She's always been a bit of a loner, not wanting to hurt anyone. She has a sad look on her face after hearing Starfire's words.
"I…. I didn't know. I'm sorry. I had no idea that you would go through crap like that. It's just that Garfield was my only friend. And I found him to be a special type of guy. I just really miss him." Terra feels sorry for her.
"Do not be sorry. It's okay. One thing you should remember is that we all consider each other and how they feel. None of us are perfect and that's a good thing. Perfection does not exist in my eyes. But you can improve on your social skills and your abilities once you know your potential." Starfire places a gentle hand on her heart. Terra places her hand on top of hers and gives a small smile.
Terra looks at Cassandra and Superboy and they both nod to her. She finally sits up and sighs. She thinks about what to do and how she can improve. Terra looks up at her friends.
"Well. I don't know how long it'll take, but I'm hoping to do my best. For you guys. And for Garfield. I miss him." Terra said with sadness in her eyes.
"I miss him too. But I am sure that Beast Boy would agree with me if he sat here with us today. And he would be happy for you." Starfire smiled.
Terra couldn't help but smile and drop a tear before she hugs Kori and holds Cain's hand. She hugs her tight before she pulls away. "Thanks. I promise to do my best next time we train."
"That's what I like to hear, girl. And when that comes, put on your mean face for us, okay?" Cain fistbumps her shoulder.
"Hey. Am I interrupting anything?" Blue Beetle asked, leaning his head in the room.
"Not at all. I'm feeling a little better." Terra forced a smile.
"What's wrong, Jaime?" Kori asked.
In the main living room, the Titans and Professor Stein are receiving a video call from Batman and Mister Terrific. And given the usual look on their faces, there appears to be some bad news coming towards them.
"Titans. Sorry to interrupt your training day. But apparently we got some bad news. The Legion is up to something. So far they dispatched four satellite machines around certain regions around the world. And so far, Supergirl, Flash and Green Lantern have destroyed three of them. We have located the last one in New Jersey." Batman tells everyone.
"Any idea why the Legion is using them?" Superboy asked.
"No. Right now, I discover through my drones that they're all aiming at a bigger satellite in outer space. The reason is still unclear, but based on its technological analysis, it doesn't look like a planet killer type of weapon." Mister Terrific answered.
"Makes sense, considering that they would have to be real big idiots to do some stupid shit like that. They'd have nowhere to go, no planet to conquer." Wonder Girl shrugged her shoulders.
"Whatever they have going on, it isn't good. But I got a lead that Red Hood, Black Manta and Bane are in charge of the last one. And their leader is Doctor Polaris. I'm sending the info to Martin Stein so he can tell you." Batman said.
"Understood. And You want us to destroy the last one, right?" The Professor asked.
"Yes. Something is on Earth and they tend to find it. If they discover it, we need to make sure we get there first before they do. We'll keep in touch with you. Good luck." Batman nods before he signs off. A moment later, Stein gets an encrypted message from Bruce Wayne.
"Well then, Titans. We have our mission. You heard Batman. Grab your gear and let us head to the city of New Jersey." Starfire instructs everyone. Jason and Stein high five each other and they fuse into Firestorm. Jaime's scrab forms into the armor of the Blue Beetle. Wonder Girl grabs her lasso, sword and shield. Superboy and Terra suit up as well as Starfire. They fly out to confront the source and find out what their plan is.
The Teen Titans fly to New Jersey. Everyone is flying with super flight except for Terra, who is using a boulder as some sort of hoverboard. Despite not mastering her powers, she is more than capable of flying with no trouble whatsoever. Terra enjoys flying in the skies alongside her friends from time to time. The only thing missing is her being able to fly around with Beast Boy, or even ride on him when he transformed into a Pterodactyl. They had fun together.
Starfire can tell by the look on her friend's face and she doesn't personally blame her. She often laughs when Beast Boy liked to joke around while flying in a flying animal form. Now with everything mostly back to normal, he may rest in peace.
"So, Con-El." Wonder Girl asked, getting his attention. "How's it feel to be back on the outside again?"
Superboy didn't really think anyone would ask him that. He forgot what it was like to fly real high and explore the planet now that he's been freed from the Phantom Zone.
"First time someone has asked me that. I've always enjoyed the sunlight. Hearing all the people happy down there and the voices. And man, the food. Always will be better than the prison food we were given." Superboy answered. Cassandra snickered.
"Yeah. I don't even want to know what it's like inside the Phantom Zone. At least Superman got his just desserts." Cassandra replied. Superboy turns to her.
"Better than fly solo than partner up with him. Y'know, I never got to talk to Kara much. Hope she's doing good. I'd like to spar with her someday." Superboy said with a confident voice.
"I'd bet she would kick your ass in that training room. Heard she beat the hell outta Black Canary and Green Arrow." Wonder Girl teased.
"Oh, very funny. We'll see about that. Loser buys pizza." Superboy joked. This made Cassandra smile and lick her lips.
"Oh, you're so on." Wonder Girl accepted the bet with a fistbump.
"Titans. We got a visual." Blue Beetle called out to them.
"Where are they, Jaime?" Starfire asked.
"According to scans, the satellite thingie is in the east coast. Close to a skyscraper in the middle of construction. We got hostages." Blue Beetle pointed out.
"Titans! Go!" Starfire flies ahead of everyone. Everyone follows close behind her. Wonder Girl shows a devious smirk and yanks Superboy's hoodie over his head before boosting ahead of him and she laughs. Superboy removes the hoodie and smirks as he gives chase after her as they fly toward their destination.
Several construction workers have been gagged and tied up by Red Hood and his two partners. They have tried to run and escape but to no avail. Of course, should they try, they were threatened with death.
While they are wanted, they, especially Red Hood, prefer to work alone, but then they have some things in common, which is a bit surprising for anyone. If anyone knows them, it'd be the likes of Batman, Catwoman and Aquaman.
Black Manta's real name is David Hyde. Diagnosed with autism and raised by his father to be a tough to break man, David proved to be a successful treasure hunter working for him. They lived their lives until one day while searching underwater in a submarine, they stole treasure and took many innocent lives while invading an island. At that point, the Atlanteans under King Aquaman's command followed by the beginning of Superman's Regime attacked him and his father's men. During the fight, Hyde's father was fatally wounded by Arthur's trident and left to die despite his son's pleas. Arthur ignored him and instead, Superman tells him off, claiming that it'll be a lesson that he will live with for the rest of his life.
Now angry and determined to take down both Superman and Aquaman, he used the stolen technology from the fallen Atlantean warriors and donned powerful armor and dubbed himself the Black Manta.
Red Hood lived a previous life as a young man named Jason Todd. He was once known as Robin before Damian Wayne and Dick Grayson. He fought by Batman's side for a couple of years until he met a tragic end at the hands of the Joker himself. He beat him to death with a crowbar and left him to die in an exploding warehouse.
Sometime later, someone managed to resurrect him using the Lazarus Pit's magical waters. But unfortunately, the pits ended up changing his personality entirely. He developed a deep hatred for criminals to the point where he would betray all of Batman's moral lessons and would hunt down anyone and carry out his job by killing them with guns and lethal weapons. He even abandoned his old name and carries the name of Red Hood and refuses to show his face around anyone within the bat family.
"This was not my idea of a temporary alliance." Black Manta said.
"It is better than teaming up with someone who refuses to keep their word and go with our deal." Bane replied, referencing Brainiac and Gorilla Grodd.
"Well I'm glad he's gone. I heard he stole Atlantis. If anyone is gonna destroy that damn place, it's gonna be me. Fortunately, Aquaman still lives." Black Manta is pleased. He hates it when someone tries to steal or kill his bounty. But he's not alone.
"You and I both. I would have loved to kill the bitches myself. They all think they're invincible, but every criminal has a weakness. Even beyond this planet." Red Hood stares into the sky.
"I don't have any weaknesses. My armor and newly installed weapons are handy in almost any situation. Including kryptonians." Black Manta claimed.
"Technology is not my best thing. Brute strength along with intellect have always been my source of liability. Thanks to these, I can now be on equal footing with them as well. If Superman or Supergirl come, they will be the first to taste my kryptonite venom." Bane said as his hands were briefly covered in electricity.
"Let us stick to our plan." Red Hood reminds them. "My vigilante followers will guard these prisoners. When someone comes, we'll be ready. There's several of them, but three of us, but we can hold our own."
"We cannot keep them away from the satellite radar. They will find out eventually." Black Manta said.
"Doesn't mean we can't delay them. Justice League or those damn kids. By the time our fight is done, they'll be too late, and we'll each get what we're promised." Red Hood cocks his guns.
The Teen Titans arrive at the construction site. All they see are tied up workers, panicking among seeing the young kids coming to rescue them. The vigilantes guard them, but they fail to notice the Titans.
Starfire nods to Terra. Her hands glow yellow and she yanks her hands up in the air. Boulders are lifted right under each hostage, carrying each construction worker, two to three at a time. All of them are carried to a safe distance and each of the boulders carrying them crumble into tiny rocks. Then Starfire shoots green lasers from her eyes and burns the ropes off of the hostages without hurting them.
The Teen Titans immediately noticed these innocent people are looking very afraid of them, particularly with Starfire's appearance and Superboy's symbol that he shares with Supergirl.
Con-El sadly gestures to his symbol and steps back so no one would see him. Starfire notices this and slowly approaches the men. Wonder Girl holds his hand to comfort him.
"It is alright, fellow humans. Do not be afraid. We are here to help. Please. Get to safety. We promise to try to not cause too much damage to your building. Now get back." Starfire tells them.
All of the workers run without hesitation. But that didn't stop them from looking at these teenagers with fear or hatred. Blue Beetle and Firestorm look at each other with concern in their eyes. Firestorm seems to be a little disappointed while Blue Beetle feels a bit embarrassed. He isn't used to being watched by normal people and seeing their expressions on them.
Terra on the other hand could care less what people would think of her. Considering that everyone called her a freak where she came from, this was nothing new to her. Starfire turns to everyone.
"Everyone. Do not let their concerns and thoughts get to you. We fight to protect, regardless of whoever trusts us or not. We have our own duty to do." Starfire nods before they each fly in within the construction site.
Upon entering, however, they forgot about the guards. They proceed to fire at the titans. Terra brings up a stone wall to protect herself and Firestorm from incoming bullets. Once they ran out of bullets, Firestorm flies up and shoots a small fireball at one vigilante, taking him down. He flies into two of them, knocking them into an excavator. Three more ran at him, but they were suddenly hit by some big rocks to the head. Thankfully, none of them are dead, but they will have concussions in the morning.
Blue Beetle and Wonder Girl use their shields. They fly and ram two of them into some stainless steel. Wonder Girl wraps her lasso around one and throws him into several more while Blue Beetle uses his arm cannon to stun more that tried to approach him. He swings a built in blade and slices their weapons in half before he shoots and stuns them all.
Con-El walks towards four of them effortlessly since as a kryptonian clone, he is bullet proof. He holds back his strength as he punches and easily knocks each one out. He uses his ice breath to freeze one in place except for her head and uses super breath and blows them away into the ground. Starfire fires her green ultraviolet energy beams to knock them out all while holding back her own strength. Once they're all rounded up, things seem to be looking up for them.
"Alright, Titans. Now let us find their machine and complete our objective." Starfire instructed.
The team looked everywhere outside, but they couldn't find it. It wasn't on top of the building, nor was it around. But then, Blue Beetle spotted something underneath it. Superboy uses his x-ray vision and looks underground. It's the last satellite machine.
"I see it. Right underneath the ground." Superboy pointed.
Superboy uses his heat vision and draws a circle with them, allowing Terra to lift it with her powers and gently place it down somewhere where it would be out of the way. Con-El flies into the hole and easily grabs the last one and lifts it up high in the air. Con-El looked at his friends with a smile on his face and gave Wonder Girl a little wink. Cassandra smiles and rolls her eyes. But her eyes widened as someone was standing right behind the floating Con-El.
Superboy was suddenly zapped and blasted away from the building, causing him to drop the machine and fall to the ground. Starfire catches the machine and places it as the Teen Titans get ready to face whoever just attacked their friend.
They hear yelling coming from above as Bane jumps down from the building and smashes the ground. Red Hood followed by Black Manta as the three approached them.
"Oh geez louise. It's Bane again. A big brute who I thought looked as dumb as he looked." Blue Beetle threw an insult.
"Don't judge someone based on appearance." Bane held up his hands. "You like? Kryptonite venom. Made specifically for your alien kind by yours truly."
"So the bat decided to send some kids to do his dirty work for him. That is not surprising, since he already has two high school students invited." Black Manta referred to Blue Beetle and Firestorm.
"Typical and predictable. Yet Batman is always planning like the paranoid maniac he is. A shame that his former son Damian isn't with him anymore. I would love to pay a visit to him." Red Hood stated.
"Blue Beetle. You and Terra guard the machine." Starfire ordered them and they nod. She goes to fight Red Hood, Superboy and Wonder Girl fight Bane while Firestorm engages Black Manta.
"Normally, I prefer to hold back my strength and go easy on ya, but sucker punching me with that Kryptonite stuff, you're definitely in for it now." Superboy is agitated as he and Cassandra fight Bane.
Superboy fires heat vision, which only causes Bane to slide backwards upon getting hit in the chest. He grabs a metal pipe and throws it at Superboy, knocking him back as he is still weakened from the kryptonite. Wonder Girl flies in and kicks Bane in his face twice before bashing his chest with her shield and punching him in the gut. Bane charges in and throws a strong punch at her, but much to his surprise, she easily catches it, twists it and kicks him in his spine, sending him into Con-El, who flies and rams into him through a fence and onto the street.
Bane gets back up and was ready. Wonder Girl flies in and goes for a punch, but only hits the ground, leaving a few cracks. Bane kicks her in her right ribs before kicking her in the face, followed by two punches and a backhand strike to the face. He grabs her by the head and throws her down onto the concrete behind him, lifts her up and throws her onto a car. Superboy uppercuts Bane's back, sending him into the air before grabbing a lamp post and swinging it down on him. Bane crashes into the ground, and despite sustaining plenty of injuries, he is still standing. Superboy lands on the ground and goes for another punch, but Bane grabs his throat and starts shocking him with more kryptonite blasts. Con-El screams in pain as he tries to break free, to no avail. Bane smirks as he was ready to kill a Kryptonian.
But then, Wonder Girl grabs Bane's throat with her lasso and is pretty pissed now. She grits her teeth in anger and tightens her grip around the lasso and Bane in turn gets shocked by powerful lightning, forcing him to release Con-El. Bane falls to a knee before Con-El uses his strength to throw Bane through an empty, abandoned building, defeating him. Superboy falls to his knees as Cassandra runs over to him.
"Con! You okay, dude?" Wonder Girl asked, helping him up.
"Yeah. The guys was a real pain in the ass. Blue Beetle was right. Thought he'd be a big, dumb brute." Superboy jokes.
"Well he's smart alright to take you down by yourself. But he's dumb enough to forget that I was right there. Dumbass." Wonder Girl said while flipping Bane off. Con-El snickered.
Starfire continues to fight Red Hood and is easily gaining the advantage. But she has some sorrow in her eyes for some reason.
"I know who you are, Jason Todd. You suffered a horrible fate. And you've changed. You swore that you'd fight crime on this planet." Starfire reminds him.
"Jason Todd is dead. He was weak, losing to someone like the Joker. I'm his superior. And I have sworn to fight crime. I'd take lives, but I'm not Superman." Red Hood exclaimed.
"Then you need to surrender. Please. Don't make me fight you further." Starfire said with a pitiful voice.
"You don't have a choice. Good news for me is, you're not bulletproof. You have good news too. I won't kill anyone who are friends with Batman, but I'll leave plenty of marks." Red Hood said as they resume fighting.
Starfire throws an energy blast in the air, creating tiny sparkles. Red Hood spirals forward and punches her stomach, rolls her and kicks her into the air and shoots a mini rocket in the air, blasting her in the sky. She recovers in the air and fires ultraviolet beams, which Red Hood avoids and jumps backwards. He avoids a dive kick and electrifies his two pistols and swings at Starfire, shocking her shoulders and face. But before he could shoot them, Starfire grabs his wrists and headbutts him before shooting him backwards with her beams, defeating him.
"I hope one day your soul will be cleansed." Starfire sighs in sadness. She always believed that some people deserve a second chance in life.
Firestorm struggles to fight Black Manta because of his superior fighting style. "You've only trained for a year. I have trained my entire life. I'd walk away with your buddies if I were you."
"Like hell am I taking orders from you, you metal fish freak." Firestorm replied.
"Who's your boss? Your teacher? If that's the case, then he's as blind as you are, child." Black Manta fired back as they resumed.
Firestorm avoids two blade swings but is met with an uppercut to the chest, two stabs in the left shoulder and left leg before he knees Firestorm in the chin before firing a red laser from his helmet and sends him backwards. Firestorm holds his injured shoulder bleeding out. Thankfully he uses his fire powers to cauterize his wounds. Black Manta swings another punch and was gonna do a stab strike to the face, but Firestorm blocks the swing and kicks him in his knee, face and chest before using his lit fists and throws two punches to the helmet and an uppercut to the chest. One of his lenses is cracked.
Black Manta recovers and fires a laser from his helmet while Firestorm counters this with his fire. The fire overpowers the laser and makes contact. Firestorm's hands light up as he throws two fireballs at his armor before going underground, emerging from underneath him, sending him in the air and slamming two larger fireballs into him. Thankfully, his armor protected him from being killed, which Firestorm held back on. But it didn't save him from being knocked out.
"Respect Professor Stein you douchebag." Firestorm said.
Once all three were defeated, Firestorm gets to work on the satellite to hack into it.
"I'm in. So just like the other three, this one is aiming at a strange satellite. Doctor Polaris must've built it. That's what the professor and Batman think." Firestorm said.
Firestorm shows a bright blue and purple large satellite hovering over Earth. It's bigger than any satellite built by NASA. And he shows recordings of the three other machines already destroyed firing at the satellite.
"But why did they build this thing? There's gotta be something hidden on Earth that's hard as hell to find." Wonder Girl asked.
"Perhaps something that has existed before we were all born." Starfire guessed.
"I'm shutting it down right now. And done." Firestorm said as it turns off.
Starfire and Superboy take the machine to space and they use their heart vision and ultraviolet beams and blow it into hundreds of pieces.
"Hey. I see the satellite all the way from here. Where the Watchtower used to be. That's the one Firestorm showed us." Superboy points out.
"Then allow us to do the honor of finishing this job." Starfire smiles and nods to him.
They fly as fast as possible to the satellite and attempt to destroy it. They try to use their powers, but tiles open up everywhere on the satellite and start shooting at Starfire and Con-El. They avoid as many shots as possible, but until a missile comes out of nowhere and aims for Starfire. Starfire reacted too late to protect herself as she was blown backwards by the explosion. Luckily, she is caught by Superboy, and seeing that these weapons are also enhanced with kryptonite, they have no choice but to retreat to Earth.
The rest of the Titans watch with confusion on their faces. Their expressions change to worry when their leader Starfire becomes injured as a result of their attempt.
"What happened? Why didn't you blow it up?" Terra asked.
"That thing has shields and weapons surrounding it. Including kryptonite weapons. We can't get through." Superboy answered.
"Well. We gotta do something about it. Can't just stand here and do nothing. We still don't know what they're planning." Wonder Girl said.
"Yeah. I think it's time we call the big bat himself and tell him what happened." Blue Beetle said.
"He's right." Starfire said as she stands up. "Batman will know what to do. For now, let us retreat back to the Titans Tower." Starfire said before they retreat.
After escaping, Red Hood contacts Doctor Polaris. "They know. Just like you predicted."
"Good. Expect a rise in your pay. For now, return to hiding. I will inform you all for any more details." Doctor Polaris signed off before turning to the hooded figure. "Our phase one of the plan is nearly finished and coordinates will be set. I hope your trip over here was worth it, old man."
"Oh, do not worry, my friend. I am always right. The time will come." The hooded figure smiled evilly.
Note: Doctor Polaris is a scientist obsessed with magnetics, and his studies caused him to go insane and become more power hungry. He becomes an enemy of Green Lantern, Hal to be specific. He has electromagnetic based powers. He's the leader of Legion in this story. His backstory here will be another time.
