"Stop the car," Charles said.
"Yes, sir," the guard said, slowing down and pulling the car over. Charles got out of the car and went to inspect the motorcycle which was upright with the kickstand down. He noticed the gas gauge was at empty.
"Sir, do we need to call someone," the guard asked once they were back in the car.
"Not yet," Charles said, "Just drive slow."
The guard nodded and started the car.
The guard drove slow as Charles watched the road. As they came around a curve, Charles saw a familiar figure in riding gear, carrying her helmet.
"Stop here," Charles said as Kellie ducked behind a tree to get out of the road.
Kellie moved further back from the road and hid behind a larger tree. She sat, exhausted and soaked. She dropped her helmet beside her. Crying, she leaned back against the tree
That was where Charles found her.
"I take it you could probably use a ride," Charles said, causing Kellie to look up.
Kellie shook her head.
"I'm certainly not leaving you here to catch a cold," Charles said, holding his hand out, "Let's get you to the safehouse where we can at least get you warm and dry."
Kellie thought for a moment and took Charles hand as he helped her stand up. Charles grabbed Kellie's helmet and handed it to the guard.
Back at the car, the guard put the helmet in the trunk, along with Kellie's jacket and gloves which Charles insisted she take off. The guard grabbed a spare blanket and handed it to Charles who wrapped the blanket around Kellie's shoulders.
They were in the car, waiting for the guard to get in, when another vehicle pulled up behind them. The guard looked tense for a moment, but then eased up when he saw it was Johnny.
Charles rolled down the window.
Johnny looked relieved when he saw Kellie was in the vehicle.
"You okay, kid," Johnny asked.
Kellie shrugged.
"Lorenzo's already sending someone to come pick up the bike," Johnny said, "I told you to refuel it the last time you had it out."
"I kind of forgot," Kellie said, quietly, "When I just needed to get away and think."
"Next time, tell Francis or I," Johnny said, "Rather than worrying us like that."
"I'm sorry, I just wasn't thinking," Kellie said.
"Why don't we sort this out after we get you warmed up and maybe a change of clothes if I can find something at the safehouse," Charles said.
"I already did the scrounging," Johnny said, showing them a duffle bag, "I figured Kellie might need dry clothes after riding in the rain."
The guard took the bag and put it in the front passenger seat.
"Johnny, can you just not tell anyone where I am right now?" Kellie said.
"I'll buy you whatever time you need, kid," Johnny answered, "I'll follow you to the safehouse. Oh, and Liz said to tell you, she'll bring the tequila next time. Did you two get up to some shenanigans I should know about?"
Kellie shook her head in response.
"I guess I should apologize for your day off being interrupted," Kellie said, "And obviously interrupting your date with Liz."
"That was bound to happen at some point," Johnny said.
Charlie's Pub
Lorenzo breathed a sigh of relief after hanging up the phone.
"Sounds like Johnny caught up to Kellie," Sam said.
"She's out near one of my safehouses," Lorenzo said, "Johnny's heading out there with her. She was pretty soaked and cold when they found her. You were right, Kellie just needs time to herself to sort this out before she talks to Jason whatever happens."
"Are you planning to head out there?" Sam asked.
"Not yet," Lorenzo said, pausing and considering if he would continue, "Charles is with her. He actually caught up to her first. She was out near his safe house."
"That's actually kind of surprising," Sam said, "Charles was at the zoo with Kelsey and I wouldn't think she'd talk to Charles if her marriage with Jason is in trouble."
"Johnny thinks she banked on us not considering she'd be out there," Lorenzo said, "For those reasons."
"But then she ran out of fuel and refused to call for help before Charles and Johnny found her," Sam said, "That tracks."
"I wish she would have just lashed out at Jason and Sonny instead of running off," Lorenzo said.
"I'm sure that's still coming," Sam said, "But important thing right now is Kellie's been found and she's safe. And now we have to give her the space she needs to process until she's ready to talk to Jason. If Jason's serious about not letting Carly give him up to the feds to keep herself out of prison, Charles might be his best bet for Kellie being able to listen to him sooner."
"I can't see Kellie discussing her marriage to Jason with Charles," Lorenzo said, "He's still Tyler, her first husband's father. I remember how hard it was for her tell him she and Jason were dating if we can call it that."
"She also had to tell him that sooner than she was ready to," Sam said, "But if Charles is with her now, he probably has the best shot at getting her to open up about what she heard. If she misunderstood something, I think he can talk her through it without raising her defenses or riling her up. Dad, as much as I hate to say this, you'd rile her up right now."
"Are you saying I can't be objective?" Lorenzo replied.
"You were just in Jason's face a little while ago," Sam said, "Over just the idea of Carly turning him into the Feds."
"You can't tell me that part of you doesn't understand," Lorenzo said, "Not when…."
"Oh believe me I do," Sam interrupted, heatedly, "And I am doing everything I can to not jump to conclusions and assume the worst. If Jason goes to prison, do you know what that's going to do to Danny."
"Believe me I know," Lorenzo said, "Danny will be devastated especially after he lost so much time when Jason was being held by Helena, Faison, and Henrik in Russia."
"It doesn't matter that Danny's going to be graduating from high school next year," Sam said, upset, "And going to trade school for auto mechanics."
"Jason taught him about working on cars and motorcycles," Lorenzo said, "Why do you think I'm so angry that this is even a discussion or possibility for you, for Danny, for Kellie and Kelsey."
"It's not like prison isn't ever a possibility for Jason," Sam said, "it's always a possibility in his line of work. But Jason going to prison to keep Carly from going because of something she did, I can't even. It was hard enough when he went to prison to protect Michael years ago. I just can't imagine it now that Danny's old enough to…I want to believe that Jason's serious about not getting involved in Carly's SEC case that way, but…."
Sam's voice cracked.
Lorenzo took Sam's hand.
"I'd like to believe it to," Lorenzo said, "But If the worst happens, we'll get Danny through it, I promise."
"I hope so," Sam said.
