Ch 120 The Final Stretch Pt 1
There was a wave of Heat traveling across the Ocean, the Heat melted all the Ice Floats and caused the surface Water to steam.
On one side of the Battle, Jackie and Mantine managed to shield themselves from Groudon's Overheat with the Stone spikes he made.
Jackie huffs, feeling the Temperature increase. He wipes away the sweat accumulating on his forehead. "Talk about a close one, that might be the strongest Overheat I've ever seen." The blonde Pokemon Ranger looks down at the Kite Pokemon, feeling his skin is a bit dry.
"Mantine, your Skin is dry. Did you get hit by Groudon's Attack by any chance?" Jackie asked the Pokemon, petting Mantine's back.
Mantine gazes upward at the Ranger, nodding slightly at his question.
Jackie nodded, looking below them at the Water down beneath them. "Okay, Mantine dive down into the Water." The Pokemon Ranger said, knowing what to do whenever a Water-type Pokemon gets dry like Mantine.
Mantine obliges to Jackie's Words, diving into the Water to refresh himself. After taking a quick dip, the Kite Pokemon burst out of the Water's Surface,
Jackie chuckles, soaked by the dive into the Ocean. "Hahaha, refresh now, Mantine?" The Pokemon Ranger laughs, petting the Water/Flying-type Pokemon.
Mantine cheered happily as they reached the Spiked Prison that Kyogre.
"That's good to hear, Mantine. I know you're working your hardest to aid us." The blonde Pokemon Ranger said, petting the Duel-type Pokemon. "However, I need you to lend us more of your strength to free Kyogre. Can you do that?" He asked his Friend,
The Water/Flying-type Pokemon nodded, already agreeing with helping to protect Hoenn. They gaze over to where Kyogre is held up.
Jackie held out his Hand out, relaying orders to Mantine on what to do. "Okay, Mantine use Giga Impact on the Rocks to release Kyogre!" He said, seeing only one way to do this.
The Kite Pokemon cried out, emitting a white and Rainbow-colored Aura around him. The Aura swirls around both Mantine and Jackie,
They rushed forward, picking up speed as the two slammed right into the Rocky Spikes,
Back at the Battle with Primal Groudon, his Attack has taken its toll on the Area. The Ocean was now producing Steam on the surface, all Ice Floats were nonexistent, and the air was so hot that it made it a bit difficult to breathe.
Flying above the Area, N is still on Reshiram as Latios and Latias all looked down below. However, with the Steam surrounding the Area, made them see what's going on down there hard.
N held hope that everyone was safe, "Helena, please, in the Name of Arceus be saf-" The green-haired Ability User paused, hearing the Dragons around all crying for his attention.
Reshiram, Latios, and Latias all motion to where the others were last seen.
The former King of Team Plasma gazed down at where the Legendary Dragons were pointing. N saw the Steam clearing up below,
Down below, N saw his Sister and the others were all safe; being protected by Registeel's Protection.
Registeel stood before his trainer and the others, using Protect against the Overheat. Gardevoir and Metagross used dual light screens to lessen the effects of Groudon's Overheat Attack.
Helena gave a sigh of relief, seeing that their Pokemon had protected them in the nick of time. "Gardevoir, Metagross, thank you for the help." She smiled at her Friends,
The two nodded, still protecting them by keeping up the Light Screen for a bit.
"Steven, great quick thinking of using Registeel's sturdy Body and Protection from Groudon's Attack." The black-haired Woman smiled at her Fiancé standing next to her.
However, when she gazes over to him, Helena sees Steven gasping and kneeling on the ground. "STEVEN!" Helena exclaims, rushing over to the Steel-blue haired Champion.
Brendan was already there helping his Mentor up. "S-Steven, are you okay-" The young trainer paused, seeing that the Champion was looking pale. "You're looking pale as ice, Steven. You need to rest," He urges him to stop what he's doing and rest.
Helena came over, checking over her Fiancé, "Steven, what did you do to make yourself pale and unwell?" She asked, not wanting to see him like this.
"I-It's nothing, Ellie. I'm doing fine. Besides, there's a Battle that needs to-" Steven tried to stand up, but he tumbled over a bit, allowing Helena and Brendan to catch him.
Helena looked over at Steven's Body, the pale skin, the dizziness, and the heavy breathing. She had heard something like this before. She then got a spark in her Head, remembering where exactly she had seen/heard of Steven's Symptoms.
The young Professor looks at Registeel; hitting her Head because she didn't see it sooner. "Steven, don't tell me…you caught Registeel," Helena asked, actually it's more of a demand.
"Registeel's here, that means I ca-"
"YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!" Helena raised her voice against her Husband-to-be. Steven paused, having never seen Helena angry with her before.
Steven ultimately nodded to what Helena said, understanding what was going on. "Yes, I did."
Brendan was still confused with what was going on, "W-What? What's happening to Steven, Professor?" He asked Helena, wanting to know what was going on with Steven.
Helena sighs, giving a quick explanation of what's happening. "Legendary Pokemon aren't your normal Pokemon. They have very powerful Energy within them." She explains to Brendan. "Regardless of the size, Legendary Pokemon can't be wielded by any trainer. Both trainer and Legendary Pokemon need to have a strong connection, a Bond per se to fully utilize their full potential." She looks up, motioning to her Brother with Reshiram.
"N and Reshiram are examples of a Legendary Pokemon and their chosen trainer. Reshiram chose him because he desires the Truth of People and Pokemon. Though the Unovan Legendries tend to choose trainers who represent their Beliefs, the outcome is still the same." Helena explains what Rood told her a while back. "What Steven did is reckless, foolish even that would be fatal if he continues."
Steven nodded, placing his hand on the black-haired Girl. "Capturing a Legendary Pokemon is easy as you can see…" He said, gazing up at Registeel. "I found Registeel's Tomb in an Expedition in the Desert Resort. I opened it and Registeel was there, waiting and ready to test me which I won."
"However, with the issue of Team Aqua and Magma, I haven't really been able to Bond with Registeel," Steven said shamefully, unable to do the simplest things as a trainer and Champion of Hoenn. "I've been using him in the Battles, but I wasn't able to handle the power that he wielded. Heh, me and my rashness got the better of me…"
The brown-haired trainer looks at Steven, still concerned for his Mentor's well-being. "Does that mean Steven can't Battle with Registeel?" Brendan asked, based on what the couple is saying.
Helena shook her Head, reiterating what she said to Brendan, "No, that's not it." She said, "What I mean is that Steven needs to get to know Registeel first and foremost before Batting with him." She glares at Steven, peeved by his recklessness.
"Y-Yeah, I know." Steven huffs, standing up as Registeel turns to face his trainer. He took out the Steel-type Pokemon's Pokeball, "Registeel, I'm sorry but right now isn't the right time for us to Battle together." The Hoenn Champion said, asked the Iron Pokemon.
The Legendary Pokemon merely nodded, already knowing that Steven was not ready to withstand his Power just yet. Registeel allowed his trainer to call him back, not minding the request.
The Steel-blue haired Champion raises his Pokeball at his Pokemon, calling him back into his Pokeball.
After calling his Pokemon back, Steven felt a little better from doing so. He was still a bit pale but the weight he was feeling suddenly lifted from his Body.
Helena knelt to her Fiancé's side, helping him up on his feet. "Steven, are you sure you can stand? I know that you weren't looking good before," She said, wanting him to rest a bit.
Steven appreciates Helena's concerns over him. He patted her Hand and spoke. "Yes, I'm getting better by the second." He said, standing up on the new Landmass. "Thank you, Helena, Brendan." He added, looking at both of them.
Helena slowly steps back, watching her Husband-to-be stand on his own. "Steven, if Groudon is going to do that Overheat Attack again, we have no way we can count Registeel if you're not well adjusted with him," Brendan asked as Sceptile nodded in agreement.
"I'll figure something out for that," Steven said, answering his Protégée's question. "For now, to avoid that possibility, we need to hit harder and quicker to prevent that Attack again."
"Good plan, then let's get to it," Helena said, wanting this Battle to be over before anything like the incident with Steven again. "Gardevoir!" She called out to her Partner,
"Metagross," Steven also called for his Partner, who responded immediately as did Gardevoir.
"We're going to ask something that might be really tiresome," Helena explains to the two Psychic-types Pokemon, wanting to ensure they continue with the Battle.
Both Metagross and Gardevoir nodded, having no qualms with the request.
The Legendary Pokemon continued his way to Sootoplis City, determined to regain more Power.
As he took two more steps, another Attack caught him off guard,
N and the Dragons flew above Groudon, still going with the Plan. "Good, keep Groudon where he is my Friends." The green-haired trainer said, looking over Reshiram's shoulder.
He saw a small light emitting from the top of Groudon's Head. "That light… it must be where the Orb is." He said, aware of where they needed to hit before.
"Sceptile, Leaf Blade!" N turns to the side, seeing and hearing Brendan's Sceptile coming in from the side.
"Scep!" The Mega Forrest Pokemon Leaps toward Groudon, his two Leaf Appendages glow and enlarge. Sceptile was inches away from the Legendary Pokemon, slashing his back as he roared in pain.
Sceptile leaps back, landing on Mega Metagross's Head. He then leaps back, landing on the new Landmass.
"Metagross, use Zen Headbutt on Groudon!" Steven cried out, following up on the Attack.
"Meta!" The Mega Evolved Iron Legs Pokemon prostrated his Legs/Arms forward, and a pinkish hue covered his entire Body. Metagross then dashed forward, accelerating faster as he collided with Groudon,
With Mega Metagross landing an Attack on Primal Groudon, Helena, and Mega Gardevoir took the opening to follow up the Attack, "Gardevoir, now's our chance."' Helena spoke out, raising her Hand at the Primal Pokemon. "Use Moon Blast!"
Gardevoir held her Hands in the air, and a Moon appeared just above her. "Gar…" The Embraced Pokemon charged up her Attack before releasing a powerful Moon Blast at their Opponent.
Primal Groudon immediately retaliated with a powerful Fire Blast to counter the oncoming Moon Blast. Like all attacks, they were countered, and they were unable to reach the Legendary Pokemon.
Helena frowns, seeing that most of their Attacks were either deflected or it wasn't enough to bring Groudon to a weakened state or bring him down. "Our Attacks aren't doing anything," She said as Gardevoir agreed.
"Meta!" Metagross turns to Steven and the others, sharing his idea with everyone.
Brendan steps forward, hearing Metagross speak. "What is he saying?" The young trainer asked,
Steven listens to his Partner's idea, nodding to what he said. "Metagross is suggesting that we should focus our Attacks rather than just Attack individually," The Hoenn Champion explains what Metagross's plan is to beat Primal Groudon.
"That…could actually work," Helena seconded the idea of the Steel/Psychic-type Pokemon suggested. "We hardly did any real impact on Groudon now he's in his Primal Form." The young Professor said, adding her thoughts to it.
"I think it'll work too," Brendan said, agreeing with the logic being said now. "At this moment, anything can go, right?" The young trainer asked,
The two Adults, Sceptile, and Gardevoir looked at one another before ultimately agreeing. "Alright, let's get to it then," Steven said, switching their plan.
Helena looks up at her Brother still Attacking Groudon, "N!" She cried out to the green-haired trainer, catching his attention. She motions for him to descend, wanting to inform him about their new course on defeating the Legendary Pokemon.
Primal Groudon noticed that the ongoing Attacks ceased, prompting him to continue his path. Out of nowhere where his guard was down, Kyogre leaps from the Ocean surface, releasing an Origin Pulse dead on into his Rival's face.
"Yeah! Way to go Kyogre!" Jackie exclaims, successfully freeing the Sea Basin Pokemon from the Prison Primal Groudon created.
Both Jackie and Mantine were flying beside the Battle, seeing Kyogre pushing his Rival back before a large Beam of all sorts of Attacks at Groudon's back,
Groudon roared in pain, finally gaining some damage. "It worked, keep it up, everyone!" Brendan exclaims, holding his Hand out. "Sceptile, Dragon Pulse!"
"Metagross, use Flash Cannon!" Steven cried out, raising his Hand in the air.
"Gardevoir, Moon Blast, let's go!" Helena smiled, ordering her Partner to Attack,
"Reshiram, Fusion Flare, Latios, Latias use Outrage!" N ordered, commanding the Three Dragon-types beside him.
All of the Pokemon released their Attacks at Groudon, receiving the same amount of damage as before.
Primal Groudon roared, using Precipice Blades to shield himself from the Attack. "Keep pushing, we're almost weakening him!" Steven cried out, about to proceed to the next stage of their Plan.
However, Stone Spikes emerges from the Sea, blocking the Combined Attacks with his Special Move.
"Ngh, we're back on square one again," Steven gritted his teeth as he saw Kyogre and Mantine using Ice Beam to try and break down the Spikes.
"We cornered Groudon, but he protected himself with his Special Move," Helena stated, observing the Battle. "There has to be another way to get around those Spikes,"
Everyone searches the Area for an opening to reach for their Attacks to land a hit. "We have to- "
Just when Helena was about to speak, the Landmass they were on and the Ocean's surface were rumbling. Everyone looked at Groudon, assuming that he was using Earthquake that caused for the Tremors they were feeling. "Groudon must have used his Earthquake Attack to stop our Attacks on him!" Brendan exclaims,
The young trainer stumbles forward, only for Sceptile to grab hold of his trainer. "Sceptile," the Forrest Pokemon asked his Partner if he was all right,
"Thanks for that save there, Sceptile." Brendan smiles at his First Pokemon being helpful. He then looked back at the Legendary Pokemon, assuming he was causing the tremors.
However, when the brown-haired trainer gazes back at where Groudon was. However, instead of what they were expecting, something else occurred that proved their assumption wrong.
Rising from the Ocean's Surface was Rayquaza, who recovered from the injuries he received from his Battle with Primal Groudon.
The Sky High Pokemon flew in the air; everyone was looking at the Legendary Pokemon. Rayquaza gave a powerful roar, echoing in the air,
With a mighty roar, a shining light appeared on the Head of the Flying/Dragon-type Pokemon. "T-That light…" Helena spoke, seeing the light shined similarly to when Pokemon Mega Evolves, however, one thing remains a mystery.
Brendan and the others stare at Rayquaza being engulfed by a bright light, "Is Rayquaza Mega Evolving?" The young trainer asked,
"Sceptile," The Forest Pokemon nodded, asking the same thing as his trainer.
Steven was about to answer his Protégée when something else caught his attention. "I be-huh?" The Hoenn Champion's eyes advert down to his Mega Pin, seeing it starting to glow. "My Keystone, it's shining,"
"Mine too!" Brendan said, looking at his Mega Bracelet, unsure how it was activated without his touch.
Helena gazed down at her Mega Pendant, noticing it was shining much like Steven's and Brendan's Keystone. "What is causing our Keystones to react like this?" she asked, uncertain how they activated.
The Hoenn Champion looked at his Keystone, then at the other two Keystones. Suddenly, the Keystones shined brighter,
A second bright light shone above them, emanating from Rayquaza. Steven then puts the pieces together, realizing what was happening before them. "Our Keystones, they must be giving him the Power to Mega Evolve!" Steven exclaims, looking up at the Legendary Pokemon, anticipating what form he's going to take.
Rayquaza flew up in the air, as high as he could go. His Body is surrounded by the white light from his Mega Stone and the Keystones in the Area.
As his Serpentine-like body continued to grow, it became longer and somewhat bulkier. Four magnificent Crests emerged along his head, with graceful fins running down his slender body. The Four Crests were notably larger, especially the two on the sides of his mouth, and the ones on the top including the edges of the bottom extended into mesmerizing orange tendrils, adding to the Pokemon's majestic appearance.
A Mega Evolution Symbol shined above his Head, roaring out loud as it disappeared.
Everyone saw the Third Legendary Pokemon of Hoenn Mega Evolved before their eyes. Rayquaza hovered above the Battlefield, glaring at Primal Groudon, ready to take him on for a rematch.
Groudon roared, regardless of the advantage Rayquaza processed. However, there was a hint of uncertainty in his mighty roar,
Mainly because under Mega Rayquaza, his rival, Kyogre was ready to continue the battle they'd started.
Witnessing the Legendary Pokémon Mega Evolve right before their eyes left everyone in awe. Even with a new power joining the battle, they knew they still had a long way to go to achieve victory.
Primal Groudon bellowed triumphantly as it witnessed its opponents' numbers and power increasing. Nevertheless, the Continent Pokémon stood resolute against its Foes.
"Groudon is still determined to fight, even with our numbers, he's not backing down," N said, with Reshiram hovering beside the group.
"Regardless, our plan remains the same, N," Steven said to the former King of Team Plasma. "Get Groudon to weaken and retrieve or destroy the Red Orb,"
Jackie nodded, taking the first incentive against the Legendary Pokemon. "I'll do what I've been doing with Kyogre," The Pokemon Ranger said, guiding Mantine near the Sea Basin Pokemon, "Kyogre!" He called for the Water-type Pokemon,
Kyogre dove beneath the Ocean's Surface before rising from the Waves and heading straight for his Rival. Jackie led the Legendary Pokemon to Groudon, getting his attention while the others were on the Attack.
"Now that Jackie, Mantine, and Kyogre are getting Groudon's attention we need to-" Rayquaza roared, interrupting Helena's sentence.
The Sky High Pokemon's eyes stare down at the group of Pokemon trainers, communicating to the one who understands the Pokemon Language.
N understood Mega Rayquaza's message clearly. The former King of Team Plasma conveyed the Legendary Pokemon's directive to the group. "Listen up, everyone. Rayquaza has something important to say," he declared.
Everyone listens to what N is saying on Rayquaza's behalf, agreeing with the additional plan the Duel-type Legendary Pokemon suggested.
With everything settled, the group of trainers proceeded to make a final stand against Groudon and end his rampage right here and there.
"Listen up, everyone! We're going to finish this Battle once and for all," Steven commanded, as he led the team into the heat of the Battle.
