Chapter 1
The Land Down Under
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Scooby-Doo or My Little Pony. They belong to both Hanna-Barbera and Hasbro. I only own the story. This film marks the return of Casey Kasem as Shaggy, Heather North as Daphne, and Nicole Jaffe as Velma from the original 1969 Where Are You cartoon. This is also the debut of Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo himself. With all that out of the way, let the mystery begin!
Somewhere in the outback of Australia during September, an Aboriginal man by the name of Daniel was out near a place called Vampire Rock. It turns out he was setting up a stage for an upcoming music festival. Just then, his grandfather, Malcolm, appeared before him.
"Daniel, this concert's not a good idea," he warned.
"Relax, grandfather," Daniel said reassuringly. "Everything will be fine."
He then took him over to the stage to see a musician known as Matt Marvelous. Matt was a guitarist who was very good.
"Rock our world, Matt!" he called out.
"Okay," Matt said nervously.
Matt then warmed up a bit before rocking out on his guitar. Once he did, a white swirl of energy appeared above him. This not only got Daniel and Malcolm's attention, but it also managed to attract the attention of a mysterious girl nearby. She gasped silently as she watched from the shadows. From the mysterious light emerged a massive vampire with red bat-like wings. He then ordered three other vampires to surround Matt. The girl watched intently while this was happening. She narrowed her yellow eyes as she watched. Soon, the giant vampire brought Matt upwards with lightning-like energy. The vampire soon made Matt disappear as he himself disappeared, as well. Once he did, the girl slowly backed away, where she disappeared into the night.
"The vampire legend is true," Malcolm said at last.
While all of this was going on, Scooby and the rest of the gang were on a cruise during a storm.
"Ruttershy, relp!" Scooby cried as a seaweed monster chased both him and Fluttershy during the storm.
Turns out that the gang, now wearing their original high school clothing, save for the Rainbooms, were solving another mystery. As the gang walked passed a door, a shark monster covered in seaweed exited it to follow them. The mystery that the gang was trying to solve was the mystery of sea serpent smugglers. The mystery was intense, but the gang soon managed to crack it and unmask three crooks in the process.
After the mystery was over, the gang could finally kick back and relax on their cruise trip. Rarity, of course, wanted to work on catching some rays. Fred and Velma were busy playing shuffleboard. Unfortunately, Applejack had gotten seasick. Thankfully, Rainbow Dash was there for her. Twilight, though, was extremely excited to reach land. The girls' band, the Rainbooms, was going to perform at a music festival.
"This is the life," Velma sighed.
"Sure is," said Fred. "And now that we've solved the mystery of the sea serpent smugglers, our one-week vacation from our first week at college should be smooth sailing."
Daphne, who was in her swimsuit and wearing her hairband, suddenly dove off the diving board and into the nearby pool. The resulting splash caused not only Fred and Velma to get wet, but Rarity, as well, causing her mascara to leak.
"MY MASCARA!" she wailed. "DO YOU HAVE ANY DECENCY, DAPHNE?!"
Daphne just laughed at her best friend's outburst, however, as she found it funny.
Meanwhile, in the ship's dining hall, Shaggy had brought a huge sandwich to his table where his girlfriend Sunset, Pinkie Pie, and Scooby-Doo were sitting. Pinkie stuck her tongue out in delight.
"Now that's what I call a triple-decker sandwich!" she exclaimed.
"This should do for an appetizer," said Shaggy.
Just then, Scooby used the pie he was eating as a boomerang to bring Shaggy's sandwich over to him. He was successful and managed to gobble the sandwich down in one bite.
"Oh, Scooby-Doo, you are such a ham!" Pinkie snickered.
Later on, Fluttershy met with the others near the ship's railing. What she saw had her mesmerized.
"Hey, guys, look at this! We're here!" she called.
"Sydney harbor!" gasped Twilight.
"Absolutely beautiful!" gasped Rarity.
"Well, I'll be!" Applejack added.
"Wow, we're finally in Australia!" said Fred.
"This is going to be the best vacation ever!" Daphne squealed.
Once they reached the harbor, Fred had another surprise for them: the original Mystery Machine.
"Freddy, you sly dog! They finally fixed it, did they?" said Rainbow.
"Yep! And she's raring to go!" Fred responded.
Once they were finally on the road, Velma had her nose in the guidebook to Australia.
"This guidebook says Sydney has the best restaurants in the entire southern hemisphere," she read.
"Like, that's great, Velma, but Scoob, Pinkie and I have got the food situation covered," said Shaggy.
He then revealed that he had brought a doggie bag with an entire platter along. The rest of the gang just laughed at their friends' overpacking of food.
"Better eat now, guys," said Velma as she got out her camera. "We've got sightseeing to do and pictures to take. Say vegemite."
The three of them did just that as they smiled with food in their mouths.
Later, the gang found a lookout point where they could view most of the continent.
"Wow! It sure is lovely here!" Fluttershy beamed.
"Sure is, Fluttershy," said Twilight as she gazed through the binoculars. "Sydney's got a bunch famous landmarks that I'd like to visit."
"Hey, Twi, what's that?" Rainbow asked as she pointed to a building.
"That's the Sydney Opera House, Rainbow Dash. It's the city's most famous landmark."
Just then, Daphne found exactly what she was looking for: Bondi Beach. The beach itself was incredibly beautiful. The gang stopped there so they could have their lunch.
"Lunch is served!" Fred announced, getting an ear of corn on a plate.
"Be right there, Freddy," said Velma as she read her book.
Next to her was Daphne, who was catching some rays with Rarity.
"Come on, gang! Everything's going to get cold!"
"Speaking of cold, where's Pinkie?" Daphne asked.
"Getting sno-cones," Twilight responded.
And that's exactly what she was doing. Pinkie was about to return with them when she burnt her feet on the hot sand.
"OW! Hothothothothothothothot!" she complained.
She hopped back on to the step in frustration. Pinkie then decided to make a run for it to get the sno cones over to her friends. So, she did. Granted, her feet got a little burnt, but she still managed to bring them over. Shaggy, Scooby and Rainbow, on the other hand, were surfing near the beach.
"Let's catch this wave," said Shaggy. "I'm hungry."
"Whatever you say, Rogers," said Rainbow.
And so that's what they did. They were unaware of the looming danger that was nearing them, though.
Back on the beach, both Daphne and Rarity were applying sunscreen to their bodies. As they were doing so, they managed to catch the attention of two lifeguards.
"Whoa. What a couple of Sheila," gasped the light-skinned one.
"I'll say, mate," his friend added.
It was clear to both of them that they were smitten with the two fashionistas of the gang. This did not go unnoticed by Fred, however, who was furious when they got near Daphne. Daphne was HIS girlfriend, plain and simple.
"Looks like somebody's jealous," Twilight said, looking up from her book.
"Shut up," Fred grumbled.
Back in the ocean, Scooby, Shaggy and Rainbow were having a blast surfing on the wave. They were, that is, until a shark came out of it.
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" Rainbow shrieked. "Nice Brucie! Good Brucie! Don't eat me! Don't eat me!"
Thankfully, the three of them managed to avoid the shark before it could have them for lunch. The shark managed to wash ashore, devour most of the gang's lunch, and even managed to chase the lifeguards up the lifeguard tower.
"Well! So much for that!" Rarity huffed.
Just then, Shaggy, Scooby and Rainbow all washed ashore after having survived the encounter. As soon as they did, a crab pinched Scooby's tail, causing him to run around in pain. Seeing that he was in pain, Fluttershy gently took the crab off Scooby's tail before it could do any permanent damage.
"Aw, it's only a little guy," she cooed. "Shame on you for pinching my friend's tail."
She then set it down, where it practically walked away from there.
"You be careful out there!"
"Come here, you guys!" Velma called. "I've got a great idea."
Everyone walked over to Velma to hear what she had to say.
"How do you guys feel about exploring the outback?"
"Outback?! Velma, you just read my mind!" Twilight squealed. "I've always wanted to see the Australian wildlife in person!"
"Well, I don't want to go out back to look at dust and trees!" Shaggy complained.
"Come on, Norvie, I'm sure it's not all that bad," said Sunset.
"What if you could hear great music while you were there?" Fred suggested.
"In the middle of nowhere?" Shaggy retorted.
"Not nowhere. There, look!"
Fred pointed to a billboard advertising the Vampire Rock Music Festival.
"Vampire Rock Music Festival?!" Rainbow gasped. "Is this what you've been teasing to us, Twilight?"
"Yep," Twilight chuckled. "I booked our band a spot for the festival this year."
"That sounds like a lot of fun, Freddy!" Daphne said excitedly.
"Vampire Rock is located right in the middle of Australia," Velma read. "We can see a lot of the outback on our way there."
"B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-But the place is called Vampire Rock," Fluttershy shivered. "That sounds scary."
"That's just the name of it, Fluttershy," said Twilight. "Besides, if there were any real vampires, they might be like the one Phanty described to us before we left."
"I hope so," Fluttershy gulped.
"And besides, I'm pretty sure that this festival will have plenty of concessions as you guys watch us perform," Sunset teased.
Just thinking about food made Shaggy and Scooby excited. Quick as a wink, the two hams declared that they were ready to go exploring with the gang. Unbeknownst to them, they were about to encounter the exact vampire that Twilight mentioned earlier. Would they be like how Phantasma described them to be? They were about to find out, one way or another.
