It was a quiet evening, just the two of them sitting on a park bench, eating burgers from a small food stall Dino had dragged Hibari to. The air was cool, the lights from the nearby streetlamps casting a soft glow around them.
They had been dating for two years now. Dino knew Hibari's habits well—he never shared food, never asked for a bite, never really cared what Dino was eating. Hibari just ate his own meal in silence, as he always did.
So when Hibari suddenly spoke, voice calm and flat as ever, Dino almost choked on his burger.
"What did you order?"
Dino blinked, caught off guard. "Uh—double cheeseburger."
"Can I have a bite?"
Dino froze.
Did he just—?
For a second, he thought he misheard. Two years. Two years, and Hibari had never, ever asked to taste his food before.
His heart swelled in his chest, a ridiculous happiness bubbling up inside him. If they weren't holding greasy burgers, Dino would have smothered him in kisses right then and there.
Instead, he took a second to compose himself, schooling his expression into something normal before holding out his burger with a small smile.
Hibari leaned in, taking a quick bite before pulling away, chewing in silence.
Dino watched, still stunned, still trying to process what had just happened. He actually took a bite. From my food. Willingly. Kyoya, my boyfriend, my grumpy little cloud, just—
Hibari swallowed, then simply said, "It's good."
Dino wanted to laugh. Not at Hibari—never at him—but at how absurdly happy he felt over something so small.
Then Hibari held out his own burger. "Do you want to taste mine?"
Dino's grin nearly split his face in half. "Yeah!"
He eagerly took a bite, nodding in approval. "Mmm—this one's good too!"
Hibari hummed, going back to eating like nothing had happened.
Dino, meanwhile, was losing his mind internally.
If this was what progress looked like in their relationship, Dino was perfectly happy to wait another two years for the next big moment.
