Hey there guys! I am so sorry to have done this to all of you, but to me, it was definitely needed. There were just too many mistakes and such for me to not ignore and also some other things I wanted to add in, I didn't want to just take the chapters and add them in unceremoniously, I wanted to take the time, go through each chapter and refresh it. I hope you all forgive me and find this updated version better written.
I also want to bring up again, this will, in later chapters, will have mentions of the LGBT community written in. If this is uncomfortable for some of you, or goes against your beliefs, then please, do not read. I care about everyone and don't want to make people feel uncomfortable with whatever I am writing. I also don't want negativity in the reviews section, or in my pms. I want this to be a safe space for everyone, so please, don't read if it goes against your personal or religious beliefs
Also, this is going to be based on movies and some parts of the books until the end of The Hobbit story, where it will continue on. I feel I as though I have to put this warning as I have had comments about this too.
Well, rant out of the way, let's get on with the story.
Chapter 1
I groan as I feel myself coming around. Shaking my head slightly, I put my hand to it as I remember what just happened. . .
It had been almost a year since splitting up from my ex, David, a peaceful and happy year. Deciding we needed a holiday, I had chosento take my almost five-year-old son, Aiden, camping for the first time, which is something he was excited about. So, I bought everything we would need, packed up the car and drove us to Cornwall. We had a great time camping with me showing Aiden how to put up a tent, make a fire and other stuff you do when you go camping. It was our final day when I decided for us to go for another walk through the woods.
Halfway through the walk, I suddenly have a feeling of being watched. Looking around, I don't see anyone. Not wanting to scare Aiden, I continue on as if nothing is wrong. However, after another five or ten minutes, I can no longer hide the feeling. Looking around again, my body freezes as I see him. David, standing at the end of the path, just watching the two of us. I suddenly feel as though I'm in a horror movie, like I'm in Friday 13th or something and David is Jason. Just without the hockey mask and machete.
"Mummy?" Aiden's little voice calls out.
That's when something inside David seems to snap and he suddenly begins running towards us.
"Quick, Aiden!" I exclaim.
Quickly lifting him into my arms, I begin running along the path, Aiden now crying into my shoulder after seeing his father chasing after us. Hearing David getting close, I put Aiden on his feet and tell him to hide before turning to face my ex. I can only open my mouth to speak when he backhands me across the face, causing me to fall from the impact.
"Mummy!" Aiden cries out.
I feel myself being flipped onto my back before David straddles me, his hands going to my throat as he squeezes, my hands coming up to try to claw his away.
"I'll teach you to run from me, bitch!" he hisses at me.
As he's talking, I can smell the booze on his breath and know he's absolutely wasted, bleary eyed and unfocused as he looks menacingly at me. His intent clear. . .he wants to kill me.
Hearing Aiden crying, I know I'm not going to let that happen. If anything were to happen to me, who knows what he would do to my baby. Remembering my training, I grab his right wrist with my hand, my left gripping behind his elbow. I then put my left foot over his right, my right leg coming up in between his legs and then push up with my hips to flip us over. Before he can do anything, I grab hold of a rock and strike him in the head with it, with enough force and in the right place to knock him out, blood now dripping from where I struck him.
Breathing heavily, I shakily stand and go over to Aiden, who is standing behind a tree, crying
"Come on, sweetie, let's get away from here." I say as I take his hand.
I'm on high alert as we walk, keeping a firm grip on Aiden's hand so I don't lose him. As what happened goes through my head, I can't help but think how he found me. How did he know we were here? Did he bug my car or something? Has he been following us for some time and I've not known? I'll have to make sure to inform the police of that when we get back to camp and I can get signal to call them.
We both walk on, managing to get quite a bit of distance away before we hear a yell coming from David's direction. He's woken up. Lifting Aiden again, I go into a run, trying to get back to the campsite where there's people, trying to get somewhere safe. Asking for God, my parents, or anyone who can hear my prayers, to get us to safety. That's when Aiden and I are suddenly engulfed by a bright, white light for a few seconds before seeing black as I pass out.
I still wonder what that light was. Where did it come from? Why did it happen? Many other thoughts go through my mind as I sit up and look around, freezing as I see I am not in the same woods as before. These woods are denser than the campsite. Where the hell are we?
Looking to my right, I see Aiden laying on the ground, seeming to be asleep as he's sucking his thumb. Despite the situation, I have to smile as I crawl over to him and gently shake him awake.
"Aiden, come on sweetie, wake up."
He groans a little, his eyes fluttering open as he wakes up.
"Where's daddy?" he asks, his eyes full of fear.
My heart drops. The man that's supposed to look after and love his son, has made my baby afraid of him. Him and all men in fact.
"He's not here, sweetie. It's just us."
He nods as he looks around, also noticing we're not in the same woods.
"Where are we?"
"I'm not sure."
I take my phone out of my pocket and look at it. Luckily, it's not broken and still works, a picture of Aiden's smiling face as my background. Looking at the signal, there's no bars. Crap. I can't even make a phone call to the authorities.
I sigh as I put the phone back in my pocket. "Come on, carino, we need to see if we can find someone to help us."
I help him onto his feet and put his Simba backpack on before picking up my rucksack and after making sure we still have everything, we begin to walk hand in hand, going in a random direction, hoping that we come upon some form of civilisation.
By the time the sun begins to set, we haven't found any sign of people at all. We are now sitting under a large tree, ready to eat and then sleep for the night before continuing to try to find some help in the morning.
As we're sitting and eating some snacks, I hear a twig snap from nearby. Looking in the direction of the sound and waiting a few moments, I don't hear anything more. So, deciding it was just a rabbit or a rodent scurrying by, I turn back to Aiden, putting my arm around him to calm him as he looks a little scared.
After we've eaten, I get us both settled down, huddled up together for warmth since we have no blankets, our packs still on our backs. I begin to tell the story of his favourite Disney movie, Lion King and thanks to my eidetic memory, I'm able to recount it word for word, since I'm not wanting to get my tablet out just yet. Just as I get to the part of the stampede, there's a loud rustle of bushes, in the same direction as the snapping twig from before. I'm instantly on my feet, as is Aiden as he clings to me. Just as I'm about to call out who's there, a male voice speaks from behind me.
"Well, well, well. What DO we have here?"
Whipping around, I come face to chest with a huge man, towering over my measly five-foot height. When I say huge, I don't mean he's overweight, I mean he looks as though he works out. A lot. No doubt he's a body builder of sorts, or could pass as one at least. His black hair is slightly greasy and falls into his eyes, which are full of greed and malice, a wicked grin on his face.
There's suddenly some laughing from behind and turning my head, I inwardly panic as I realise Aiden and I are surrounded by five men, all ranging from different sizes and ages, the youngest looking to be roughly my age. Aiden's arms wrap tight around my waist as he whimpers, and I hold him close to me.
"Pretty little thing you have there, Ernie." One of the men say.
The man behind me, Ernie, suddenly grabs hold of my arms and yanks me back hard, almost making Aiden and I lose our grip on each other.
"Aye, that she is. What do you think lads? Make a fine little bed warmer, don't you think? Shall we keep her around?"
As the men laugh and jeer, my stomach drops as I begin to feel sick. I never thought I would ever find myself in a situation where men would talk about wanting to rape me! I knew I had to get myself and Aiden out of this. I couldn't let anything happen to him, I wouldn't!
Swinging my leg back, I manage to kick Ernie hard in the shins, causing him to loosen his grip on my arms in surprise, allowing me to get my arms free where I elbow him hard in the gut and then push him aside. While the men are distracted, I pick Aiden up and begin running, trying to get away from these men.
As I'm running, I suddenly cry out as blinding pain hits from my calf, making me fall to the ground, rolling to the side so I don't hurt Aiden. Looking at my legs, I see an arrow sticking out of my right calf. An arrow!? What are we in, the Middle Ages!?
Looking back, I see the men advancing towards us and knowing I have Aiden to protect, I try to get onto my feet, but only managing to collapse back onto my knees. I look to my son.
"Aiden, you need to run. Get as far away from here as you can."
He shakes his head. "I can't leave you, mummy."
I put a hand on his face. "Go, Aiden. I will find you; I promise." I lean down and kiss his cheek. "Now go. Run!"
He hesitates for a second before he turns and runs through the bushes ahead, causing me to sigh in relief, which soon fades as I am grabbed from behind and roughly pulled to my feet, causing me to cry out again as a rush of pain goes through me.
Ernie stands in front of me as he roughly grabs my face and growls. "You're going to regret doing that, missy."
"What about the runt?" One of the other men asks.
"Leave him. We've got the real prize with this one."
I don't show my emotions, but inside I can feel my fear coursing through me. Although, there is one thing that gives me some relief; Aiden was able to get away from here, get away from these men. I didn't want him here to witness whatever was going to happen, and then for him to get hurt or worse. Hopefully, he'll be able to find somewhere safe and someone willing to help him.
Meanwhile, not far away, a group of thirteen dwarves, a hobbit and a wizard had decided to make camp on an outcropping at the edge of a cliff, overlooking the lands. There is one way leading in and away from camp, which means anything won't sneak up on them from behind.
Thorin orders his nephews, Fili and Kili, to take care of the ponies while Gloin and Oin get a fire started so Bombur and Bofur can start on dinner. Bilbo, after ungracefully dismounting from his pony, finds a small boulder to sit on and rub his aching thighs.
It had been almost a week since the hobbit had left his door, left the comforts of home behind, and he still hasn't found his place within the company. He knew that some, Thorin and Dwalin for example, didn't want him there, although he is apparently needed.
Apart from being their 'burglar', he doesn't really have a role to play on the journey, not like the others; it's Gloin and Oin's job to get the fire going, Bombur and Bofur make the dinner that Kili and Dwalin will hunt for and Fili and Kili take care of the ponies when they stop. Bilbo just hopes that before this journey is over, he will make his own mark within the company, maybe even to make friends with the dwarves, he doubts this right now, but you never know what can happen in life.
The sun has almost set by the time the company have finished eating and everyone is now lounging and relaxing. Some are puffing on pipes, sharpening weapon, Ori's writing in his book while Dori is sewing a hole in a pair of trousers.
Bofur is in the middle of telling a story when they suddenly hear a rustling in the bushes behind them. This causes the dwarves to be on alert, all of them taking up arms, even Gandalf is preparing for an attack. A few moments later, all weapons are lowered when a small human boy falls out of the bushes, sniffling and sobbing into the ground, surprising everyone.
"A boy? What in Mahal's name is a boy doing this far out alone?" Gloin asks, his fatherly instincts coming forward.
At hearing his voice, the boy's head snaps up and a look of pure fear and panic appears before he quickly scrambles behind a tree to hide. The poor boy can't be any more than five. Why is he alone and in such a state?
Balin steps forward and speaks to the boy in a grandfatherly manner. "There is no need to be afraid, laddie, we're not going to hurt you."
The boy pokes his head out from behind the tree so that only half of his face is showing, but he doesn't say anything, his brown eyes wide in fear, tear tracks on his chuccy cheeks.
"Why are you out here alone? Where are your parents?" Balins tries asking.
The boy begins to sniffle at this, almost sobbing again. "Th-They have her."
"Who has who?" Fili asks, feeling sorry for the small boy.
"Bad men. They got mummy. She-She told me to run, I dint want to, but she made me."
"Where are they?" Thorin growls as he moves forward, the protective instinct that is ingrained in each dwarrow to protect women and children kicking in.
Noticing the fear on the boy, Thorin realises his tone was too rough for the poor, terrified child and sighing, internally cursing himself, he takes a knee and speaks more gently to him, trying not to seem as terryfing to him.
"It is alright, little one. Please tell me, where do these men have your mother?"
The boy, still cowering back slightly, bravely comes out from behind the tree, seeing that these people are going to help him. He points back in the direction he came from. Thorin looks into the woods for a moment before standing and turning back to his dwarves.
"Fili, Kili, Dwalin and Gloin, with me. The rest of you, stay here with the boy."
"I come too!" The boy calls out, suddenly brave enough to step towards them, ready to save his mother.
Thorin admires the little one's courage. Even though he is afraid, he is still willing to face that and save his mother. Though, he has to do the right thing and to keep him from danger.
He shakes his head as he kneels in front of the boy again. "No, little one, you need to stay here. We will find your mother and bring her back, I promise."
After sending him a comforting smile, or as comforting as he can in the situation, Thorin stands and charges off with the four other dwarrow right behind him, hoping and praying to Mahal that they can get there in time to save the woman and to keep his promise to the boy.
'How do I get into these predicaments with men?' I think to myself.
There was my first boyfriend when I was fifteen, then there was David and now these thugs. What is it about me? Do I just naturally attract jerks or something?
Having watched Aiden get to safety, Ernie dragged me over to the other men and then sat me down, painfully I might add, after tying my hands behind my back. They had roughly removed my pack and just tossed it to the side, luckily leaving it alone after not finding it important enough to go through.
While they were sorting the camp out, I manage to look around at my calf and see the arrow is still in there, but the shaft has been broken off from the struggle. I still wonder what is going on for someone to be using bow and arrows these days and think for a moment whether I've stumbled into some sort of renaissance festival or a LARP game or something. I soon push that from my mind, there's no way participants would be allowed to use weapons to inflict damage on people. . .right?
So lost in my thoughts, I don't notice Ernie coming to me until he roughly pulls me up and I struggle to get away from him, causing him to laugh aloud.
"Oh, I love them feisty." Ernie chuckles as he turns me so my back is to himand I'm facing the other mne.
"Get your hands off me, you brute!" I yell out, paling as I feel Ernies hand slide up to my breast.
"No can do, missy, you belong to us now." Another man says as he and the others are watching with sickening grins on their faces.
After seeing them all and knowing what's going through their heads, I know I need to get out of this and fast. For one, Aiden is out there alone somewhere, and he could be in just as much danger and I wouldn't know it, so I need to find him. And second, I'm not going to allow myself to be used by these men and possibly killed or worse, sold off to other men once they've had enough of me.
With this in mind, I gather what courage I have and throw my head back hard and fast, hearing a crunch and a scream as the back of my head collides painfully with Ernie's nose. As he drops me, I try to scramble away from the men, but to no avail as the other men grab me and pin me down.
"No! Let me go!" I yell out.
Still struggling, I manage to let out a scream which is soon muffled as I am gagged.
"Ya alright, Ern?" One of the men asks.
I look over in time to see the man who talked help Ernie to straighten up. Ernie pushes the man away before he turns his attention to me. A feeling of satisfaction comes over me as I see blood pouring from his nose, the feeling soon passes however as he pulls out a dagger and makes his way over to me.
"You're going to regret that, you little bitch!" he snarls.
He straddles me and puts the dagger to my throat, close enough to where I feel the coolness of the steel against my skin. I close my eyes, not wanting Ernie's face being the last thing I see, instead, focusing my thoughts on my little boy, on Aiden. I pray he's found somewhere safe. . .someone who will help him.
Well, that's part one done. I'm going to get started on part two soon and get it up as soon as I am able. I hope you enjoy reading this for now and I hope it's a lot better than before.
