Just do it.

You say to yourself as you stand atop the UA building. You look out into the looming distance as a light breeze ruffles your clothing. You take a deep breath as you feel yourself leaning forward. You suddenly pull yourself back when you hear the door to the roof opening and turn to see a head with fluffy green hair poking through.

"DEKU!" You exclaim as you nearly lose your footing but fall onto the roof.

"Y/n? What are you doing here?" He steps out the door the rest of the way with his backpack over his shoulder, his notebook tucked between his elbow and ribs, and his lunch tray in his hands. "I didn't know anyone else knew how to get up here. Always good to have a lunch buddy, righ-... y/n?" He's cut off from his train of thought when he sees that you still haven't gotten up. Your gaze down and your posture defensive.

"Um..." He places his stuff against the wall as he walks steadily towards you. He crouches down next to you and leans back onto his heels to steady himself. "Everything, ok there?" He tries to say playfully as he brushes a lock of hair away from your face gently. His gaze softens at the sight of the tears lining your cheeks and the puffiness having overtook your eyes. "Hey, what's wrong? You know you can tell me, right?" He places his fingers under your chin to face him. As you turn your head, you lose your balance and as you fall back, A piece of paper flies out of your hand. "I got it!" Deku said as he stood quickly and lunged for the paper. "What's this?" He unfolds the paper.

"No! Don't read that!" You try to get out, but you already find his eyes tracing your angry words.

"You're quitting UA?" His head tilting questioningly as he lowers himself to sit next to you again. "That's a real shame, you know." He shuffles the paper to reveal a second note. "I don't understand why you need two pages for a letter of notic-." His words trailing off as he reads the second page. You curl your knees to your chest and turn your face away from him with shame as his eyes continue to scan the letter silently. He finishes reading the letter, and without a word he folds it and puts it in his pocket. He crosses his legs and leans back against the wall while his green eyes stare into the distance.

"You weren't just planning on quitting UA, were you?" He kept his gaze forward as you sighed at the question. "The uh...second letter made that pretty clear."

You don't have an answer for him as you shift your gaze and rest your chin on your knees while the tears begin to flow again from your eyes and to the ground.

"I mean..." He hesitates. "I can see why you would jump. I wanted to a hundred times."

"Really?" You say through the frog in your throat as you turn your head to face him and bring your legs to a more relaxed crisscross applesauce.

"Yep." He says calmly says as he stays sitting straight. "Kachan would tell me that if I jumped, I would be born into my second life where I might have a quirk and be someone worth living." He turns his face to look at you as a lock of green hair falls over his face. "But I realized that I didn't need a different life. I just needed a different way of living it." He reaches over and softly interlaces his fingers with yours as he brings them to his lips and kisses your knuckles gently. "Something tells me that something similar might by going on 'here." He gives your hand a squeeze as he looks into your eyes.

"Maybe." You wipe your eyes with your free hand and you lean back against the wall.

"Tell me." His green eyes looking lovingly into your soul. "Why did you want to jump?"

"Does this stay between us?" Your hands shaking slightly.

He grabs your other hand and brings both of them to his chest where you can feel his heartbeat. "This all stays right here."

You take a deep breath as you prepare your words but something in your heart stops you. You open your mouth to speak but nothing comes out as you stare blankly at the door yards in front of you and tears well in your eyes. Deku's heart aches at the sight of your struggle with your feelings. You open your mouth again to try to say something but you quickly close it as Deku scoots in front of you and wraps his strong arms around you. He brings one hand to cradle the back of your head and the other rests around your lower back.

"You don't have to say anything if you can't." He whispers into your ear with a sense of assurance. You could tell he was swallowing the emotion in his voice as his words cause to melt into his embrace. Your arms come around to hug him around his ribs as your head nuzzles his chest. You breathe in deeply at this new sense of security you find in your classmate. His hands continued to rub your back but he brings his hands to your shoulders so he can see your face. You keep your gaze down. He ducks his head low and tilts it, raising his eyebrows comically so he is now upside-down from your view.

You laugh slightly at his humorous gesture while you use the back of your sleeve to cover your mouth. He sits back up, laughing slightly, and places his hand over the hand you are using to cover your mouth.

"You know." He says sweetly with a genuinely caring smile. "I would really miss getting to see your smile if you were gone." He brings the hand down to your lap. "Please don't ever try to hide it."

Your eyes fill with tears at the compliment and you continue to laugh as you found it slightly cheesy.

"It sounded pretty mushy, huh?" He laughs and nervously rubs the back of his neck.

"Maybe just a little." Your giggling fades as you find his eyes set on you and his hands reaching for yours again. His expression is now a little more serious as he opens his mouth to speak.

"I mean it. Really, I do." His hands finding yours as he stares down at them and chuckles to himself slightly. "I mean, who else starts food fights in the kitchen, throws papers at Aizawa, and openly mocks Kachan when he talks? It definitely isn't anyone else in the class."

You chuckle slightly remembering the things you did during your first year at UA. Deku's eyes meet yours as one of his hands releases yours and reaches up to cradle your face delicately.

"Who else would live your life better than you, hm? You're here for a reason. Finding the reason can be real punch to the gut sometimes, but I'm pretty sure that's why both of us are right here, right now." He stands and offers his hand to help you up. You take it as he easily brings you to your feet and you find yourself against his chest as he keeps his hands on your waist.

"You're right." You say as you both stand there savoring this moment of connection. You look away and giggle slightly. "You're gonna make me cry again, you nerd." He lifts one of his hands to bring your face back to look at his.

"You know I would never do that on purpose, love." He lowers his lips and places a soft kiss on the top of your head as of his hands runs through your hair.

You sigh contentedly as he continues to caress your back gently. He looks back at you with a sense of question but you don't want to hear it.

"Can we just stay like this for a while?" You whisper into his chest when his arms relax off of your frame. When you completed your statement, his arms went back to securing you against him as he rested his chin on top of your head.

"Anything for you. Anytime. Any place. Whatever you say. Whatever you need. Wherever you go. I will be there to stand at your side."
