Chapter 10

I'm Losing Her

I swim quickly out of the palace leaving Altancia behind. I was on a mission to find Ariel, Sebastian or Flounder before the King does and warn them about him. I push as fast as my fins would carry me only to stumbled upon by heaps of sea creatures who were heading towards me. "Get out of my way! I'm in a hurry!" i cry trying to get them to move out of the way "Oh way!", "How rude!", "Hey didn't anyone teach ya some manners!" were some of the responses i heard from the local neighbours.

Eventually they all moved out of the way and i couldn't help but notice them all singing a catchy tune. If i could just pick out the words to the song after hearing them come from the angel fish the words were "Under the sea, Under the sea! Darling its better where its wetter take it from me!". Sounds like one of Sebastians numbers but he was no where to be seen.

I continue looking for Ariel and finally managed to catch a glimpes of a mermaid with a flounder fish swimming towards the secret grotto. "Ariel! Flounder!" i yell as i swim towards to them "Urchin!" Ariel cries "Oh hey Urchin!" Flounder says happily, i was puffing my lungs out after swimming to fast "I'm (puff) so glad I (puff) court up (puff) to you guys!" tell them.

"Urchin what's wrong with you? You look like you have swam a marathon!" giggled Ariel, i finally begin to catch my breath and explain to Ariel and Flounder that i needed to talk to them. Ariel smiles as she turns to Flounder. She then gentley grabs hold his two front fins and begins to dance, in which Flounder was enjoying "Oh can it wait? Flounder says he has a surprise for me in my Grotto! Hey you should come too!".

"Ariel is about your father!" i tell her hoping to grab her attention but it failed. Ariel remained not to listen, so i tried once more "Ariel! Listen to me, i have just lied to the King!". I then get an answer "You lie Urchin? impossible, i thought Daddy made you nervous!" she simply answers back while giggling to herself I could tell she really wasn't listening which began to break my heart. Then Ariel sped up to Flounder "It was for you Ariel...our promise remember..." i whisper but she hadn't heard me she was too busy humming.

Ariel's humming was a song i'd never heard before. It wasn't the same one as those Angel fish were singing. "Got to admit Sebastian's song is kinda catchy!" says Flounder, Ariel giggles "Yeah i guess but i but you Sebastian just sang to me to convince me that life is better under the sea then above the sea". At least Sebastian was trying his best to wheel her away from the human world. This could be on the Kings commands.

"Oh... i was looking for Sebastian too! Do you know where he is?" i ask her, Ariel stops and looks at me, finally i might have her full attention "Oh Flounder and i left halfway through the song, i was just too excited about Flounders surprise!" she says to me. I lifted an eyebrow "You left during the song?" i ask her "I was getting bored, as you know i am sick and tired of everyone telling me to keep away from the human world!" snaps Ariel "How can a world that makes such wonderful things be bad?".

I looked at her and thoughts flowed in my mind about last night. Thinking back when Ariel was rescuing that human when their ship was going down "Ariel, what happened after you saved that human?" i carefully ask her. Ariel turned to face me and didn't seem at all scared or nervous.

She then began to speak quite cheerfully along with a bit of seriousness in her voice "After i rescued the Prince, i swam with his unconcious body to a nearby beach and stayed with him until he regained conciousness". I look at her in shock "Were you seen?" i ask her, "No i don't believe so i fled back into the ocean when iheard the other humans calling out his name" Ariel informed me "Oh Urchin, he was so handsome!".

I could sense Ariel's vibes, not only has she become ever so fasinated with the land above , she was now in love with a human prince!. My heart sank! I've lost her, there goes my last chance of whooing her "Is the Prince alive?" i ask her, "Yes! Thankfully he is, i watched from afar!" Ariel tells me with a smile on her face. "Oh Urchin, i am going to be part of that world! I don't know how, i don't know when but someday!".

I swam sliently beside her, i didn't know whether to be happy or disappointed for her. I should've seen it. She never showed the same affection towards me like i did for her. Not once did she physically say that she loved me or try and kiss me. I think she had always just seen me as a good friend rather then a possible love interest. My heart was broken and i didn't know how to mend it. Maybe we were not really mean't for each other after all.

Ariel will always be my love but I guess sometimes you have to understand your friends wishes and let them go to full fill their dreams or if they fall for another. I have to let her go but who's heard of a mermaid becoming a human?. imagining Ariel becoming part of their world! Having legs instead of fins! The thought of it makes me cringe!. No matter what happens I still wanted to remain by her side even with the fear that i may be losing her now.

"Here we are!" says Flounder excitedly "Urchin? Would you mind opening the door for us?", "Yeah sure thing!" was all i could come up with as i helped move the rock that hid the entrance to Ariel's Grotto. "Flounder, why can't you just tell me what this is all about?" Ariel questions the little fish excitedly as we all swam through the corridor of the Grotto. Flounder led the way "You'll see, Its a surprise!".

Ariel and i both stopped and both slient, in our sights was not only Ariel's massive collection of human treasures but a big stone carving of the human that she rescued last night!. I was unable to speak "Oh Flounder, Flounder you're the best!" Ariel says to Flounder grabbing and hugging him "It looks just like him. It even has his eyes, why Eric run away with you? This is all so...so sudden...".

As i listened to her speak towards the statue, i had no idea that myself and Ariel were about to get into some hot water. Suddenly Ariel stops twiling around and gasps. I wondered why until i hear her say "Daddy!". Flounder goes to hide behind a chest. I slowly turn around to find the King lurking in the dark shadows of the corridor. Ariel's busted, i'm busted!.
