Chapter Five: Staying behind.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything but this story idea, yada yada, you guys know how it goes.
A.N: Yo, yo, yo everyone, here is the long awaited fifth chapter. Now i've noticed I've been getting a few questions about why Naruto looks the way he does and about Chichi and I'm going to address them now. So the long answer is a genetic anomaly/mutation from being a half breed Saiyan. Because of this mutation, Naruto looks like his Uncle Minato who had blue eyes and blond hair, now if you want the short and boring answer, I had the art commissioned before I had the story idea. So there's your reason why Naruto looks the way he does.
Now on to Chichi, let me be clear, I like Chichi, so no, Goku isn't going to leave his wife for Suno, No I'm not going to bash her, no I'm not writting her out of the story or any bullshit like that. If you don't like it, then tough, it is what it is.
I'm still going back and forth on who I want for the pairing but those I do know i want for sure is Tsunade, Android 21, Kale, Caulifla and maybe one more character. If you guys want it to be 18 then let me know but if you want that final spot to go to someone else then let me know in the reviews or if you have any messages just send me a Pm and I'll try and get back to you as soon as I can.
Like always here is the link to Aizen's server and I'll catch you guys at the next update- /GmaQeHG7
A day had passed since the Saiyans invaded earth and upon making first contact with humanity, took countless innocent lives with a swipe of two fingers. Worst of all, they killed Piccolo, Yamcha and Tien, taking away the hope of bringing anyone back from the dead…or so one would think but as Naruto, his father and brother were about to find out, that might not be the case.
Naruto was currently sitting on the same bed as Gohan, a square band-aid firmly on his cheek while most of his body was covered in fresh bandages. The sons of Goku were busy talking, thinking of ways on how they could bring everyone back. Goku was resting on the other side of the room, looking like a mummy as the only thing not covered in a cast or a bandage was his face. Chichi was by his side ever the loyal and loving wife but at the moment, her heart and mind were caught in a whirlwind of emotions.
Chichi hadn't seen her baby boy nor her husband for nearly a year because of what was supposed to be a simple visit to see old friends but the next thing she knew her husband was dead, sacrificing himself to save the world of course, but worst of all, her poor Gohan was taken away by Piccolo who Chichi thought was still an enemy. It was a lot to take in, especially in a single day.
'That's not even to mention him…' Chichi silently thought to herself as her eyes looked across the room at Naruto. The wife of Goku wasn't sure what to feel when it came to the little golden monkey-tailed boy. If she was honest, she felt no malice toward him, how could she? He was only an innocent child, yet Chichi would be lying if she didn't admit she was somewhat hurt. Goku was her husband just as she was his wife, she felt the right of having his firstborn son fell to her but it seemed the world had other plans. Perhaps the worst part was the fact she didn't even know what Naruto's mother looked like or her name.
If she was honest, she couldn't really blame Goku nor could she blame Naruto's mother. They weren't engaged at the time, hell her husband didn't even know what the word engaged meant until they actually got married but still, a nagging part of Chichi couldn't put the reoccurring thoughts to rest.
Goku glanced at his wife with concern, he made to speak with Chichi but found himself interrupted by his older brother, "You look like crap."
"I can't say you look any better." Goku responded with a weak grin.
"Heh, still a cheeky little bastard." Raditz muttered as he crossed his arms. The Saiyan seemed to be debating saying something in his mind, becoming somewhat bashful as he couldn't quite meet Goku or Chichi's gaze, "I erm, I wanted to say thank you for saving me Kakarot and I'm…I'm sorry."
"Raditz…" Goku whispered out his brother's name, he gave the spikey, long-haired Saiyan a smile, a smile that said everything without actually saying anything.
I forgive you.
Chichi rested a hand on the machine covering most of her husband's body, "Goku, who is this?"
"Chichi, I'd like you to meet my older brother, Raditz." Through his cheery introduction, Goku missed the way his wife narrowed her eyes, Raditz did not.
"Older brother? So this is the guy that got you killed huh?" The two Saiyan brothers shared a nervous glance. Raditz for the first time in his life felt shame as he scratched the back of his head, a family trait it would seem.
"I, uh." But Chichi wouldn't let the man finish as she poked at his bandaged chest, feeling a small bit of satisfaction at every wince.
"And kidnapped my Gohan." That statement had everyone in the room staring at Chichi, waiting to see what she would do.
"…"
"Let me tell you something you long-haired thug, if you ever try to hurt my son or husband again, a hole in your chest is the last thing you have to worry about. Am I clear?" Chichi threatened, a regular human she maybe but the warrior deep inside had yet to leave her heart and she would fight tooth and nail to protect her family, even against world-ending threats.
"Crystal." Raditz gritted out as he looked away, crossing his arms as he moved out of the woman's way.
"Hmph, Goku, I'm going to get you and Gohan something to eat, okay?" Goku smiled at his wife, feeling relief when she smiled back.
"You're the best, Chichi." Chichi walked over to Gohan, giving her baby boy a kiss on the head while sending Naruto an unsure smile before leaving the room.
"I must say Kakarot, your wife is one hell of a woman." Raditz said, complimenting his brother on his choice for a mate. He knew their parents would be proud and would have welcomed her and Gohan with open arms.
"I'm very lucky to have her." Goku responded, truly meaning those words.
"I take it she didn't take the news about Naruto well?" Raditz's question left the father of two sighing, looking at the ceiling with a contemplating look, "Give her time brother, this all must have been quite a shock."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." The younger full-blooded Saiyan sighed, trying to think of a way to make Chichi feel better.
A crash outside the door silenced the room, and the following shout left everyone bar Naruto confused, "Hey! Hey! Little girl, you can't go in there!"
"Get lost, I'm looking for my pupil." The door swung open and standing there with a scowl was Tsunade, the honey brown-eyed girl lost her scowl at the sight of her favourite monkey boy, "There you are."
"Tsuna, I'm so glad you came to visit me!" Naruto said cheerfully, his tail wagging in excitement.
"I told you not to call me that you blond idiot!" Tsunade replied with an embarrassed face, moving around the other side of the bed so the blonde boy couldn't see her rosy cheeks, "Now move over so I can heal you and Gohan."
"Hehe." Naruto's grin was practically beaming, Gohan looked equally happy to see their favourite healer, about to greet Tsunade before he was interrupted by his father's martial arts master.
"Naruto my boy, I didn't know you had a girlfriend? Already taking after your master aye? Hahaha-" Roshi didn't get the chance to finish his cackle as a tiny fist buried itself into his wrinkled cheek.
Wham!
"Stupid dirty old man." Tsunade muttered, turning her back on Roshi as she continued to heal Naruto.
"Hasn't anyone taught you to respect your elders!" Roshi yelled as he jumped to his feet, sunglasses slightly askew as he held his swollen cheek, grumbling as everyone seemed to ignore his self-inflicted sufferings.
"Hey Krillin, last night, didn't you say something about there being a planet full of um, what do you call it, Napenjian's?" Naruto asked, completely butchering the name of Piccolo's people.
"Heh, it's Namekian's Naruto and yeah apparently there's a whole planet out there full of them. I'm thinking there might just be some dragon balls there too." Krillin said as hope started to seep into his voice.
"There is some merit to that theory. Not long after planet Vegeta blew up when I was still a child and was aboard one of Frieza's ships, I heard some drunken ramblings between soldiers in the recreation room. They talked about an impossible planet to find that housed magical wishing orbs guarded by namekians. I simply thought it was nothing more than an old wives tale." Raditz's confirmation had lit a storm of ideas inside the smartest woman on earth's busy mind. Broken out of her train of thought as her closest friend called out to her.
"So we just have to go into space right? Bulma you could build a spaceship no problem." The purple-haired woman was touched by her friends' confidence in her abilities and that reminded her of the remote that could connect to the Saiyans pods, luckily she brought it with her.
"It shouldn't be a problem, we'll just use that Nappa guy's space pod. Maybe I can call it using this remote I found from Raditz's broken pod." Bulma said as she walked across the room to turn on the TV, switching the channels until she stopped on a new station showing off Nappa's pod.
"My what?" Raditz asked, frowning as he was ignored by the future owner of Capsule Corp.
"I hope this works." Bulma muttered to herself, not knowing that she was actually about to press the self-destruct button.
Raditz's eyes widened as he yelled, "Wait don't press that-"
Boom!
The room was silent as the long-haired Saiyan seethed, turning to face the smartest woman on earth as he barked, "You idiot, look at what you've done!"
Bulma, already feeling foolish for her massive blunder, scowled as he turned to face Raditz, getting in his face as she yelled, "Hey, who are you calling an idiot, you long-haired freak?!"
"Are you deaf as well?" Raditz questioned, feeling his fury grow the more Bulma screeched.
"Why I outta!" Bulma growled as she took a swipe at the taller alien, missing her hit as she was held back by both Krillin and Roshi.
"Bulma, settle down!" Their tussle ended abruptly as a voice called out from the other side of the open window.
"Is this a bad time?"
"Mr Popo? What are you doing here?" Goku asked as everyone turned to face the open window, turning to face the mystical dark genie in surprise. Mr Popo stood still as a statue as he rode his flying magic carpet, his eyes unblinking and wide but still filled with nothing but kindness even after the loss of his oldest and closest friend.
"I thought you would like to know about the ship Kami used to come to Earth. Perhaps you could use it to travel to Namek." The genie with skin dark as night said with his arms folded behind his back.
"You know about planet Namek, Mr Popo?" Naruto questioned, curious to what Mr Popo really knew.
"Kami talked about Namek once or twice but he didn't remember too much as he came to earth when he was very young." Popo explained
"So you're saying Kami had a ship, Mr Popo?" Bulma questioned, hoping her hunch was right about the old guardian of Earth having a spaceship and even better, the coordinates too planet Namek.
"That's right." Mr Popo confirmed with a nod.
"Well, I guess there's no time to waste. Can you take me to his ship?" Bulma asked as she started to walk towards the window, getting ready to jump onto the mystical genie's magical carpet.
"Of course."
"I'll be back soon guys." Bulma promised, giving her friends a thumbs up as she hurried to find Kami's old ship, hoping to fix her previous blunder as fast as possible.
"Good luck Bulma." Everyone wished their favourite purple-haired scientist luck as she disappeared in a flash.
"You have some odd friends." Tsunade told her pupil, moving from healing Naruto's back to his arms.
"That just makes them interesting." The Saiyan told his fellow blonde with a grin before his gaze and smile became softer, "Thanks for coming to see me, Tsunade."
Tsunade felt her lips curl, saying, "I wanted to come help you when I felt you fighting but grandpa refused, saying it was too dangerous." Tsunade stopped healing Naruto's arms to hold his hands, head bowed as she whispered, "I felt scared when I couldn't feel your ki, I was worried you might have…"
Naruto gave Tsunade's hands a squeeze, grinning sheepishly as he said, "I'm sorry, I made you worry."
"Yeah well, you should be. Dumb monkey boy, making me worry." Tsunade huffed, finishing her healing with the golden monkey-tailed boy and starting to move onto his brother, stopping to stand next to the large bag she brought with her.
"Hehe."
"I also found something of yours." That perked Naruto's interest immediately, tilting his head as he asked.
"Something of mine?" Naruto's eyes lit up as he recognised the weapon he lost in battle, "My power pole!"
"Grandpa and I rushed to where we last sensed your Ki, hoping to bring some medical support when we felt that Saiyan leave the planet but you guys were already gone before we could help. I thought bringing your power pole back was the least I could do." Naruto was touched by Tsunade's kind gesture. He was going to go back out to the battlefield to find his staff anyway but it would seem the high ponytailed girl saved him the trouble.
"Ma'am, ma'am! You can't just run through here!" A familiar doctor's voice called out as the door to their shared hospital room swung wide open and a frantic Suno stepped forward.
"Naruto!" The golden monkey-tailed boy leapt to his feet, leaping toward his mother as he called out her name.
"Momma!" Suno caught her alien son in a tight embrace, peppering his face with affectionate kisses as she whispered, "I'm so glad you're okay. Don't you ever scare me like that again, do you understand?"
"I'll try." Naruto responded with a sheepish grin, knowing he couldn't really keep that promise.
Suno shook her head with a tired smile, brushing Naruto's golden locks, "*sigh* What am I going to do with you?"
Naruto didn't give his mother an answer, instead choosing to shoot her a cheeky grin, "Hehe."
"Suno?" Goku called out, smiling when he saw the mother of his firstborn.
Suno let out a gasp, walking over to her son's father's side with Naruto in hand, "Goku? Is that you? Are you okay?"
"Long time no see. I'm all good and I'll be out of this thing before you know it, stronger than ever" Goku swore shooting his son a grin at the last part, something only two Saiyan could appreciate.
"Why is it that nearly every time I see you, you end up getting yourself beat up trying to save the world?" Suno asked with an exasperated sigh but still smiling nonetheless.
"Guess I'm lucky like that." Was Goku's simple explanation, laughing alongside Suno while Naruto grinned at his parents, seeing and feeling what all children want at his age, a complete family. Naruto then remembered his brother and ushered the younger boy over to meet his mother.
"Lucky isn't the word I would use." Suno said with a shake of her head, a smile graced her lips as she rested her hand on the machine helping Goku recover, "It's good to see you, Goku."
It was at this time Chichi chose to make her return, a bag full of food in one hand and at the sight of Suno, her gaze narrowed. The room was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.
"Wha!" Mr Popo and Bulma reappeared from their sudden trip from across the globe, the purple-haired scientist shooting the genie a glare as she shouted, "Don't just take off like that."
"My apologies." Mr Popo replied with his constant unnerving stare, "I hope the ship will be sufficient for your trip to Namek?"
"More than sufficient, I'll need a little time to study the technology and clean the ship up but we'll be heading off in no time." Bulma swore, her words bringing newfound hope to everyone in the room who heard it.
Mr Popo looked pleased, giving a smile, "That is good to hear. I'll be off then, good luck everyone."
Bulma sighed, still more than a little creeped out by the mysterious genie, temporarily ignorant to the tension in the air as she asked, "So what did I miss?"
It was November 14th, and ten days had passed but Bulma was finally done with the Namekian spaceship, even more so, the small group forming of Krillin, Bulma and Gohan were ready for their long journey towards Namek.
It was no shock to the group when Gohan demanded he go along, even more so when he disobeyed his mother and yelled at her, saying he was going not just to help bring his friends back but because he needed to do it for Piccolo. Chichi was stunned into silence, never before thinking her precious Gohan would ever yell at his own mother and she couldn't help but have a creeping suspicion that his half-brother was to blame or perhaps that was what she told herself. Nevertheless, she gave Gohan permission to go to Namek and a bag full of a month's worth of supplies to support a hungry growing saiyan was given to the boy without a fuss.
Everyone was surprised when Naruto told them he would not be joining them for this trip but rather coming at a later date as he would stay to protect the earth while Goku could not. They accepted his reasoning but both Gohan and Raditz knew better, they knew Naruto wanted to also use his time this month with his father, getting to know him and make up for memories they never got to share.
That was why Raditz chose to stay himself, not only to heal the injuries dealt to him by Vegeta but to spend time with his little brother and nephew.
Naruto, Tsunade, Raditz, Chichi, her father the Ox King, Chiaotzu and Master Roshi were saying goodbyes to the brave heroes of their group who were about to travel the stars.
Naruto clasped his brother's hand in what he thought was a rather manly way, "Don't have too much fun without me."
"I'll try not to. You make sure to keep everyone safe." The golden-haired boy gave a fierce nod, motivated by the smaller Saiyan's worlds.
"Of course bro!" Naruto stepped away from Gohan so he could say goodbye to his mother. The monkey-tailed boy turned his attention to the amazing purple-haired scientist who made this all possible, Bulma, "I hope you stay safe Miss Bulma."
"Thanks, Naruto. You sure you don't want to come with? A strong little guy like you will make me feel safer for sure." Bulma asked as she crouched so she was closer to Naruto's height, meeting the fierce little saiyan's eyes.
"I would really like to, but Dad needs me and someone should stay to protect the earth. As soon as he's all better, we'll be there in a flash to kick some ass." Naruto promised as he punched a clenched fist into his palm, beaming at the softly smiling older woman.
"That makes me feel much better, you make sure your dad gets better soon so you can hurry over to protect me, okay?" Bulma asked one of her closest friends son's playfully, tussling his golden spikes as he gave her a thumbs up.
"You got it."
Bulma giggled as she rose to her full height, finding herself wearing rose tinted glasses as the monkey tailed continued to remind her of his father, "Thanks cutie."
Tsunade watched the entire interaction with her mouth set in a thin line and her eyes narrowed, glaring at the older woman. It wasn't hard for Bulma to notice, the purple-haired scientist laughed nervously as she thought to herself, 'I hope she didn't get the wrong idea. Jeez, was I that bad when I was her age?'
Raditz took his turn to speak with Gohan after the boy was done receiving his tenth hug from his mother, giving a small smile as he asked, "Are you ready?"
"Yeah. I think I am."
"Good, you look ready." Raditz uttered softly, "You know, back when I was on Planet Vegeta, boys your age would be sent off into space. It was for a different purpose but you do your race proud. I…I am proud."
"Thank you, Uncle!" Gohan replied happily, bowing to his uncle and nearly falling over with his giant backpack from doing so, he regained his balance, grinning as he promised, "I'll keep trying to do my best."
Raditz, content with his youngest nephew's words, stepped back, standing alongside Naruto as they watched Bulma, Krillin and Gohan board the ship. Watching as the mighty Namekian ship, fully restored to its former glory with a few upgrades, soared out of Earth's atmosphere and past Jupiter in mere minutes.
This didn't stop Naruto from running forward waving towards the sky as he kept his eyes trained on the fading light of the ship, yelling out, "Bye Gohan!"
"Fret not nephew, we'll be joining them soon." Raditz promised as he started to hover in the air.
"*Sigh* Yeah, I know. I just hope they'll be okay." Naruto mumbled to himself before looking over to his floating uncle.
"Have faith, Naruto." Was all Raditz had to say before he took off, leaving just the half saiyan, Tsunade, Chichi and her father, Roshi having taken his leave a little earlier.
"I guess it's just us, huh, Tsunade?" Naruto asked his fellow blonde, becoming confused at the irritated glare being sent his way.
"Hmph."
"Eh? Tsunade? What's wrong?" The golden-haired Saiyan questioned the older girl, resting his hands on his hips as he tilted his head in a confused manner.
"'Thanks cutie.'" Tsunade repeated Bulma's words, spinning on her heel and starting to fly away with her arms crossed and her nose upturned to the sky, "Monkey-tailed idiot."
"What does that mean? Tsunade!" Naruto whined, head falling as he let out a sigh, "Oh geez, what is she grumpy about this time?"
"You got a lot to learn about women, my boy, ahahaha." Gohan's grandfather let out a big belly laugh, patting his stomach as he said, "My wife was very much the same."
"Oh, your mister Ox King right? Gohan's grandpa?" Naruto questioned before giving a polite bow as a greeting.
"That's right, it's nice to meet you." Ox King returned the bow, smiling down through his bushy beard at the small Saiyan child.
"Dad, we should get going." Chichi told her father softly as she turned and walked over to their capsule corp plane without saying another word.
"Oh, are you sure you wanna-" But Ox King didn't bother finishing as his daughter ignored him, leaving the larger man to sigh, "Oh."
Naruto, ignorant of Chichi's plight, waved goodbye as he said kindly, "Bye, Misses Chichi."
"Take care of yourself, kid." The Ox King wished Naruto luck in his training before taking off with his daughter in their plane back to their home in the mountains.
"You too." Naruto mumbled, now alone, he turned his attention back to the sky, already starting to miss his little brother and hoping the smaller Saiyan would be safe.
Nearly two weeks have passed since Bulma, Gohan and Krillin left Earth in search of Namek. Within that time, Naruto had dedicated himself heavily to his training, when he wasn't spending much-needed time with his father. The golden-haired Saiyan was actually flying above Wukong hospital in West City, shocking the regular inhabitants of the city as he gently touched down from the sky and walked in, waving at the familiar doctors and nurses as he made his way to his father's room.
"Dad, you up?" Naruto slid open the door to find his father, while still heavily wrapped in bandages and his left leg covered in a cast, attempting to do one arm push-ups, Naruto gave a playful sigh as he shook his head, unable to hide his grin "Dad you know you're supposed to be resting right?"
"Hey son," Goku slowly lowered his body down and was careful to put all his weight on his strongest leg but he didn't have to worry as Naruto was by his side, helping him hop back over to his bed, "I'm actually happy you're here."
"Is everything okay, Dad?" Goku patted Naruto on the shoulder to ease his worries.
"Everything is fine son, I just have a favour I was hoping to ask you." The little monkey-tailed boy was curious. He hopped onto his father's bed, sitting cross-legged as his tail lazily swished back and forth.
"Well whatever it is, don't worry, I can handle it."
"I know you can, Naruto." Goku said with a smile before crossing his arms as he started to explain to his son, "Not too long ago, Chichi brought up the idea of starting our own farm with all the land we have but I uh, died before we could fully get it started. Last time I saw Chichi she mentioned the farm again and I was hoping you could help her out for me."
Naruto didn't need much convincing as he was already on his feet, ready to leap out the window and head in the direction of where he could send Chichi's ki, "You can count on me, pops!"
"Thanks, kiddo, I really appreciate it." Goku said earnestly, really proud and appreciative of his son's help.
"I'll head over to help Chichi right away. I'll see you later, Dad." Naruto yelled as he jumped out the window, shocking and scaring many patients, doctors and nurses who were unfamiliar with Naruto's antics.
"Bye son, thanks again." Goku whispered. There was a specific reason why the saviour of the world was asking this of his son. Now, while Goku wasn't the smartest man in the world, he certainly wasn't stupid, naive and perhaps a tad childish at times but never stupid. Goku could tell Chichi hadn't quite come to accept Naruto yet and was hoping perhaps this was a way for them to bond.
Goku sighed as he rested his bandaged head on a pillow, quietly thinking to himself 'I hope I'm doin' the right thing, Grandpa…'
(Son Family Home)
Naruto had his arms held out in front of himself as he speared through the sky like a rocket. Passing through the clouds with a joyful spin. The golden-haired Saiyan child broke the cloud line, hovering in the sky, eyes narrowed as he scanned the landscape, a smile breaking across his lips as he finally saw a dome-shaped house.
It didn't take long for Naruto to land a few feet away from the door, it took even less time for the young lad to crack his knuckles against the wood briefly before waiting.
"Just a moment." Chichi's voice called out followed by a few hurried steps. The door opened and the mother of Gohan peaked her head out while asking politely, "Hello?"
"Hi, misses Chichi." Naruto's cheerful greeting left the mother of one, momentarily stunned as she was not expecting to see her husband's other child.
"Oh, Naruto." Chichi looked around to see if anyone else was around but became more confused when she realised it was just Naruto, "What are you doing here?"
"I went to visit Dad earlier and he was tellin' me about the farm you guys are gonna start." Chichi raised a brow as she listened, letting Naruto finish as he continued, "And since Dad is still in the hospital, he sent me over to help get it started."
Chichi was touched by Goku's idea but she felt it was still much too soon and wasn't sure if this was really a good idea, "That's very kind of you Naruto but-"
Naruto interrupted Chichi by clasping his hands together, bowing his head as he begged, "Please let me help, misses Chichi! I'm a hard worker and a good listener, I promise."
The mother of Gohan sighed, biting her lip in thought. After a brief moment, Chichi weakened and agreed to let Naruto help, "Well, I suppose some help wouldn't hurt. Come on, let's get you out of that Gi and find you some proper clothes to work in."
Naruto cheered as he followed Chichi inside, excited to see what his father's and brother's home was like, feeling satisfied to know it wasn't too dissimilar to his own.
"Gohan's room is the left door down the hall. I packed away some clothes for when he gets a little bit older but you can use those in the meantime." Naruto nodded as he followed Chichi's directions, opening the door to a well-kept room full of toys, a bed, a desk and a shelf full of books.
'So this is Gohan's room…Heh, he's such a nerd.' Naruto thought, chuckling to himself as he glanced briefly at the books that looked way too boring in Naruto's humble opinion. After a minute of rummaging around, the Saiyan halfling found a white t-shirt and some simple brown pants to work in.
Chichi's unexpected little helper came back with a grin and his golden tail wagging excitedly, "I'm ready!"
"So you are." Chichi commented with a small smile, Naruto's energy was quite infectious, just like her Goku.
"So what do you need me to do, misses Chichi?" Naruto asked as he followed Gohan's mother outside the house, just noticing that Chichi herself had changed out of her dress and into something more useful for farming.
"Come, I'll show you." The golden monkey-tailed boy followed Chichi outside of the dome-shaped house, towards a large field of dirt that had yet to be ploughed or fertilised, "I'll hop on the tractor and you plant these seeds in all of the ploughed dirt."
"Seeds huh? What kind are they?" Naruto asked as he was handed a large brown sack full of pink round seeds with a thick green stem.
"Radishes." Was Chichi's simple reply as she leapt onto her tractor and kickstarted the engine with a simple turn of her key, "And once we're done here, we'll move on and plant cabbages, carrots, and all sorts of Vegetables."
"Yosh! You can count on me." Naruto promised with a thumbs up and a grin
"That's what I like to hear. Now try and plant them evenly, okay?" Chichi ordered as she pressed a button, lowering the cultivator, stirring and pulverising the soil as she drove past.
"Okay." Naruto did as he was told without complaint, planting the radish seeds evenly but also at a decent pace, the golden monkey-tailed boy found himself enjoying the activity as he followed after Chichi, 'It's kind of like training.'
Naruto punched the earth making a small hole, placed the radish seed inside and then covered it with dirt. Naruto repeated this over and over but he never found it boring, his amazing little mind found the process not only fun but also an easy way to practice strength control. He knew if he wanted to, Naruto could make a crater with a simple punch but that would destroy everything and clearly that wasn't what Naruto wanted.
It didn't help that Naruto had the habit of forgetting how strong he was at times and ended up breaking things at home. The amount of money his mother spent fixing doors and cutlery was not lost on the boy.
An hour went by and once they were done planting the radishes, they moved onto to the cabbages and then the carrots and so forth, a long process that left Naruto wiping his red and sweaty face with a handkerchief that Chichi had given him.
The happy wife and mother gazed upon her newly planted crops with pride, her body ached from the long day of riding and helping Naruto fertilise the land.
"Who knew farming could be such hard work." Naruto said as he stretched his little body, tail swishing lazily as he looked up at Chichi.
"Thank you so much, Naruto. I can't believe we nearly did it all in one afternoon." Chichi said in amazement as she started to lead the Saiyan boy back to her home.
"It was easy with your directions." Naruto complimented as he moved so he was walking next to Chichi.
"Well, I suppose it helped you were a good listener." Chichi said as she smiled back at Naruto, feeling herself warm up to the little Saiyan.
"Hehe." Naruto's bright grin turned into a sheepish curl of the lips as his stomach started to rumble, "Sheesh, I didn't realise I was so hungry."
"We have been working very hard. Come, I'll make you something to eat." Naruto gained stars in his eyes, monkey tail swishing excitedly.
"Really? Thanks misses Chichi."
Chichi waved off the young Saiyan boy's thanks, "It's no problem. With Gohan in space and Goku in the hospital, I haven't had anyone to cook for."
"Then I'll make sure to eat enough for both of them." Naruto promised, his grin widening at hearing Chichi laugh for the first time.
"I suppose you Saiyan boys are all alike, huh?" Once they were back at the Son family home, Chichi ordered Naruto to have a bath, saying his food would be ready by the time he was all clean.
The little hard worker looked refreshed as he took a seat at the table, watching Chichi cook what could only be described as a feast fit for a king. Naruto wiped the drool from his chin, snapping open a pair of chopsticks and clasping his hands together, an action Chichi mimicked as they both said, "Itadakimasu."
Like a ravenous wolf that hadn't eaten for days, Naruto tore into his meal with the grace only a Saiyan could have. Chichi ate at a much more modest and dignified pace, "So Naruto, can I ask you something?"
"Sure." Naruto replied with a mouthful of food, cheeks slightly bulged from over engorging on the heavenly meal.
"What is your mother like?" At Chichi's question, Naruto swallowed, beating his chest with his fist to help the food go down before letting out a content sigh.
Naruto's eyes then started to become kinder kind, and soft, expressing an innocent and unconditional love only a child could have for their parent, "Momma? Hehe, she's the best. She's the leader of our entire village, so she has a lot of responsibilities but that doesn't stop her from helping someone if they need it."
"She sounds…very nice. It's good that even though she's busy, she makes time for you." Chichi muttered as she started to get a better understanding of Suno's character.
"Yeah, she's pretty great like that." Naruto complimented his mother as he took a sip of his juice, wiping his mouth with the back of his arm.
"Do you go to school?"
Naruto gave a carefree shake of his head at Chichi's question, responding with a happy, "Nope."
Chichi gained a look that was a mixture of concern and disbelief, trying to rationalise what the boy was telling her in her head, "Oh, so you must be homeschooled."
"Well, not exactly." Naruto said sheepishly, scratching at his golden locks.
"Don't tell me you don't have any form of education?" Chichi questioned, placing her chopsticks down as she refused to believe that Naruto didn't have schooling of any kind.
Naruto was quick to defend his mother, saying, "It's not Momma's fault, she tried to teach me that stuff but I found it too boring. I much prefer to train and fight instead."
Chichi could only shake her head, the mother within her saying how she would never allow Gohan to act that way nor would she allow Naruto if he was her son, '…but he's not your son.' A voice coldly reminded the ever-faithful wife but Chichi was quick to dismiss those thoughts, reminding herself that even though Naruto wasn't her son, he was a good boy. He wasn't the delinquent that she assumed he was, a bad influence trying to corrupt her Gohan. He was just a little boy who was happy to have a brother and more family, he didn't deserve her disdain.
"Mrs. Chichi." The mother of one was so lost in thought, she nearly missed Naruto calling out to her.
"Yes?"
Naruto's eyes shined with unconditional kindness, beaming a bright smile, he simply said, "Thank you for being so kind to me."
Chichi wasn't sure what to say at first but settled for returning the gesture, "I…You're welcome, Naruto."
"I better head home, I know Eighter and Momma are probably wondering where I am." Naruto told the older woman after he finished all of his delicious food, standing near the door as he started to put on his martial arts boots.
"I suppose it is getting late." Chichi agreed as she followed the little Saiyan outside.
"Don't worry, misses Chichi, I'll be back tomorrow so we can do some more gardening." Naruto promised as the love for gardening and vegetables was starting to take root deep inside his heart.
"I'm looking forward to it." Chichi replied, watching as Naruto started to float in the air.
"See you tomorrow!" Naruto yelled, waving goodbye as he flew across a pink-orange dusk-coloured sky.
Chichi returned his wave, feeling a burden that had once been on her shoulders, lightened. A new bond was quickly forming between the two and just like a new garden, it would take time and care for it to bloom and grow.
Time passed as it often does, a simple five days, and during that time like Naruto promised, he came back every day to help Chichi with the crops. In fact that was where Naruto was currently going but before he made a visit to the Son household, he wanted to see what his uncle had been up to. It was rather easy for Naruto to track Raditz ki but the full-blooded Saiyan wasn't alone, in fact, he was sparring with someone.
"Uncle Raditz, Chiaotzu!" Naruto's call drew the attention and ended what seemed like a rather rough spar. Chiaotzu, who was looking pretty beat up but motivated, greeted Naruto with a call of his own while Raditz settled for a nod and a smile.
"Naruto, it's good to see you." Raditz turned to fully face his nephew, uncrossing his arms as he asked, "What brings you here?"
"I'm on my way to help with her farming but I stopped when I sensed your ki." Raditz raised a brow when he heard his nephew mention his brother's wife.
"Tch, you can actually stand to be around that woman?" Questioned Raditz as he walked over to a flat rock to sit on, Naruto and Chiaotzu following his lead.
"She's not so bad when you get to know her." Naruto said in defense of his brother's mom, resting his hands on his hips as he asked, "What are you guys doing?"
"We've been training." Naruto tilted his head at Raditz's simple explanation.
"Training? How did that happen?" Questioned the Saiyan halfling.
"When Tien died, I felt useless, I was useless but worst of all, I couldn't do anything to help Gohan when that big brute was about to kill him." Chiaotzu explained, his shame clear as day on his face. His voice then became brighter as he told Naruto, "So, I went searching for Raditz. I knew he was strong and he was tough, he was definitely the right guy to make me stronger."
"I see." Naruto replied as he crossed his arms, a proud smirk curling the young lad's lips, "That's awesome you want to become stronger and you're right, Uncle Raditz was definitely the right choice."
"Thanks." Chiaotzu replied humbly.
"I'm glad you guys are getting stronger, it reminds me I need to start kicking up my training too." Naruto mentioned with a sigh, resting his chin on his hand.
Raditz couldn't help but smirk, he reached out and ruffled Naruto's golden spikes, saying, "If you ever want a spar, you know where to find me, Nephew."
"Sounds good, Uncle." Naruto replied with a cheesy smile. Then his eyes snapped open in remembrance, and he was back on his feet and taking off towards the sky, "I'll see you guys later, I don't want to keep waiting any longer."
"Take care, Naruto."
"You too, Chiaotzu." The Saiyan halfling waved goodbye, breaking past the cloud line in a matter of seconds. As the afternoon sun shined down upon Naruto, the young lad couldn't help but think that today was going to be a great day.
It was a shame, he had no idea how wrong he was…
(Space)
A ship of massive proportions was soaring past Jupiter, travelling at astounding speeds as it approached its intended target, earth. Yet it wasn't exactly the ship that was of significance but whom that was within. A male full-blooded Saiyan was gazing outside the window and into the deep abyss that was space.
His dark grey skin was briefly illuminated by the sun before being covered once more in the darkness of his ship. Familiar black spikey hair swayed with his movements as he moved away from the window. Passing by a spherical machine that was designed to keep the ship in tip-top shape.
The mysterious saiyan's grey cloak covered his standard saiyan armour. His chest piece was pure black while his shoulder pieces, battle skirt and crotch piece were more of a grey-purple mix.
A man of towering height with red skin, a scared face and long brown braided hair, stood in front of a sealed door. He too wore Saiyan armour, albeit, slightly customised with small spikes on his shoulder pieces. He bowed at the sight of his leader and employer, "Lord Turles."
"Amond." Turles greeted with a nod of his head, strolling past the giant and entering the room, "How are the doctors today?"
"Finishing the final touches on the world engines, my lord."
"Good." Was all Turles said as he walked further into the ever-expanding space. The wonders of Tuffle technology were never lost on the low-class Saiyan, it was beyond anything the Saiyans had or could ever create but what the Saiyanshad in spades was their overwhelming power or rather, they did but now they were down to merely a handful.
Turles finally found the men he was looking for, the last two saviours of the near-extinct Tuffle race, the ever-brilliant Doctor Lychee and Doctor Myuu. Old scientists, who were forced to serve King Vegeta with the promise of freedom after their service was done but Lychee feared their service would never be done.
A Saiyan woman, younger than Turles, sat watching them work with a smirk, flipping a knife between her fingers. Her reddish brown hair was wild and untamed, even putting it in a ponytail did nothing to quell its untameable nature.
"Brussa." The Saiyan woman just gave him a simple wave of her hand, before using the knife in her hand to cut some fruit.
"Yo." Turles walked past Brussa to inspect the last remaining Tuffles, finding the scientist sitting together drinking tea as they played a famous strategic game from their home world.
"Doctors." Lychee rose to his feet first, followed by Myuu.
"Lord Turles." They greeted with a bow before following the Saiyan towards one of Tuffle kinds greatest creations, the world engines.
"It's finished?" Myuu nodded at the Saiyan's question, being the first out of the two to answer.
"It is my lord." Lychee answered as he gazed open a testament to Tuffle's genius.
"And it will alter the planet to completely replicate planet Vegeta perfectly?" Turles asked as he gazed at the black machines with the ability to change planets, his features hardening as he turned his attention back to the scientists.
"Of course. Originally it was designed for deep space colonisation for our people until…" Lychee seemed to struggle to finish his sentence. Even though it has been centuries since the death of his race, the wound still felt so fresh.
"Until the Saiyans arrived." Turles had no problem finishing for the doctor, smirking with a certain amount of cruelty that only a Saiyan could achieve.
"Yes…" Lychee muttered as he brought a hand behind his back, clenching it into a fist as he continued by saying, "It will replicate the atmosphere, the density and even the gravity of planet Vegeta. It will be exactly as you remembered it."
"We shall see." Turles said, his tone underlining a hidden warning should they fail, the leader of the ship turned his attention to his fellow Saiyan, "Brussa, you will be the one to unleash the outsides should anyone try and hold resistance."
"Do you think it will come to that?" Brussa asked, confident they wouldn't need their mutated army of feral mindless drones.
Turles nodded as he started to lead Brussa away from the Tuffles, "This is only a mere rumour but it's said that Prince Vegeta and the Saiyan elite Nappa visited this planet in search of Dragon balls."
"Dragon balls…like the ones Frieza is searching for with his son?" Brussa knew of the dragon balls or rather heard rumours from drunk Frieza soldiers in a faraway system on an out-of-the-way planet.
"That's right and Vegeta barely escaped this Earth with his life. If that's true then this won't be as simple as we think." Brussa couldn't find any faults in Turles logic and even if the rumour proved to be wrong, it didn't hurt to be prepared.
"Of course. It will be done, my lord."
"Soon Brussa, the Saiyan race will be reborn back to its former glory once more." Turles promised as he and his female companion left the scientist to their own devices, never knowing of their quiet plotting.
"Soon Myuu, we will be free of this accursed ship. Slaves to these savages no longer." Lychee promised his oldest and only friend.
"Revenge will be ours, my old friend. Even if it did come with many sacrifices." Myuu muttered as his hands drifted to rest under his artificial eyes, ripped out by Turles for a planned mutiny with another Tuffle survivor who was now dead, amongst many others.
Lychee was not spared as he lost an entire arm, now replaced with a mechanical replacement. His metal fist clenched tight alongside his nontechnical hand, "It still infuriates me that they're using our technology for such means."
Myuu chuckled, his face highlighted by fury and madness as darkness riddled his tone, saying, "Let the fools believe that we're going to help them rebuild planet Vegeta. They forget it was once ours before they stole it. And I promise you this, it will be ours again brother, once Baby is ready to be brought into this world."
(Back on Earth)
Naruto was whistling happily as he was carrying a large canister four times his size and full of water. Gently the Saiyan child was pouring the fresh water from the local river onto the crops from high above, mimicking rain.
"This should be it and I'm done." Naruto said to himself as he poured the last of the remaining water on the cabbages.
"Naruto!" The Saiyan halfbreed looked down to Chichi waving up at him, calling out as she held a platter that was currently holding two large glasses and a pitcher full of lemonade, "Come have a break, you've been working hard."
"Oh boy lemonade, my favourite." Naruto cheered happily as he accepted his large class with a nod of his head. Nearly finishing more than half in less than three big gulps, "*Sighhh* You're the best, Mrs. Chichi."
Chichi just laughed at the little Saiyan's compliment before turning her attention back to the crops they started to grow together. Feeling proud at the sight of it even though it had been less than a week. Chichi would also admit she was thankful for her husband's idea, she was glad he sent Naruto over and she was even more glad to actually get to know the boy.
She won't lie and say she was a fan of his mother but she did like Naruto and hoped perhaps one day, both their families could become much closer.
Chichi was broken from her thoughts as she was tackled to the ground by Naruto, about to question the boy when the crops, the field, and everything they worked for was gone in a gigantic explosion.
Naruto used his infinity to shield them both, moving his brother's mother to a fallen tree as he whirled around to stare at the sky, eyes shaking at the man who looked exactly like his father, "D-Dad?"
"Heh, hello 'son." Turles laughed as he disappeared in a burst of speed, repairing in front of both Naruto and Chichi with his white gauntlet-covered arm drawn back.
Naruto, wanting to protect Chichi, uses his infinity to wrap around her completely and move her as far as he possibly could from Turles. This left Naruto open for a mean right hook that sent him soaring through the tree line.
"Naruto!" Chichi yelled as she called out for her husband's son, feeling great concern and fear as she ran to find the boy, only to be knocked unconscious and carried by Amond.
Blood trickled down Naruto's jaw from the heavy punch, struggling to rise to his feet as he was left dazed and confused, shaking away his confusion at the sight of the approaching Turles, "You're gonna pay for that cheap shot, you bastard!"
"Not so fast boy, you wouldn't want anything to happen to your mother would you?" Naruto froze at the sight of Amond's massive hand around Chichi's neck,
"Ngh." The Saiyan child was infuriated at the sight, gritting his teeth as he used everything in his power to restrain himself.
"Heh, find your father, the one they call Kakarot and both of you pledge your allegiance to me and the glory of the Saiyan race and you may have her back. Do not and she dies." Turles warned his fellow Saiyan as he started to float into the sky, Amond following, carrying Chichi under one of his arms.
"No…" Naruto whispered as she drew further and further away and he knew there was nothing he could do about it.
"Make your choice boy." That was the last thing Naruto heard as they flew to their ship and out of sight.
'I promise, I'll save you Chichi and I never break a promise!' Naruto thought determinedly as he strengthened his resolve, flying away from the destroyed area to find some much-needed backup…
