Weeks had passed since Link had finished the Water temple. It turned out that his friends Sidon, Yunobo, Tulin, and Riju were the four sages. Not to anyone's surprise however, there were fourcreaturessent by Ganondorf into the temples. Thankfully, They made quick work with each one. And, with the monsters gone, the disasters in each kingdom stopped respectfully. Now, he was on his way to the Great Plateau with Riju, the last of the sages, to rendezvous with the other sages. They had already reached the north face of the plateau, where Link was figuring out how to get up. "Link! Look over there!" Riju exclaimed. "There's water leaking out of those rocks. If we destroy them with my lightning, maybe we'll find a way up!" Link looked where she was pointing with confusion. Therewaswater leaking out from those rocks. And if his calculations were correct, it was right under the lake on the plateau. Maybe if they destroyed the rocks and drained the lake, they could get up. Link shrugged. It was worth a shot."Alright."He signed to Riju,"Charge up your lightning. I'll get my arrows."Riju nodded. Link reached behind him to grab his traveler's bow, and he notched in an arrow. "Ready?" Riju asked. Link nodded, took aim, and released the arrow. The arrow flew forward and hit the rocks with a resounding crack as the lightning struck. Water flooded forth as the rocks crumbled. Link couldn't see anything but water where the rocks had been. Eventually, the flood subsided and they could see an entrance where the rocks used to be. Cautiously creeping forward, Link peered through the entrance. There was indeed a way up unto the plateau. It was steep and rocky.

However, Link had climbed steeper cliffs, and he was confident in his and Riju's ability to make it. Suddenly, time seemed to stand still, and everything froze. He couldn't move.

"Thank you. You have freed me from my watery prison. Make your way to the Temple of Time, where you will receive guidance."

The world returned back to normal, and everything rushed to Link's head. He toppled over, overwhelmed. Face pressed into the rocky ground, he tried to comprehend what had just happened. "What was that?"

Riju looked him dead in the face. "I have no earthly idea."

Well, there was only one way to find out.

They began their ascent up the path.

Those Fools...

Something was off. The air was completely still, the sky cloudy and dark. And it was quiet. Too quiet. There were no sounds floating across the plateau, and they hadn't come across any other creature, not even a monster.

Suddenly, the bushes behind them gave off a rustling noise.

Link whipped around.

"What's wrong?" Riju's voice sounded in his ear."I think we're being followed."He replied, staring into the bush, before slowly backing up.

His foot caught on something, and he stumbled to the ground. It was a squirrel. At least, hethoughtit was a squirrel. The poor animal was dead, burnt beyond recognition.

What could have done this?

A screech in the distance brought his attention back to the world. Leaping to his feet, Link drew his sword and stared into the direction that the screech had come from.

"Did you hear that?"

There was no answer.

"riju?"

He dared to let his quiet voice slip.

She was gone. Nowhere in sight.

Nowhe was a little spooked.

'WHAM'

Something, orsomeone, crashed into him at full speed, toppling him over.

Riju?

She looked unharmed but she was cold and shaking. Link got up and grabbed her by the shoulders.

"What happened?" He whispered, still startled. She snapped her gaze up and gripped his shoulders tightly.

"run." The quiet sound came out of her pale lips.

"It..."

"It's coming..."

"What!?"

"What'scoming!" Link whispered, more urgently now, but Riju had slipped out of his grasp and fallen to the floor. Hurriedly, he grabbed her wrist and searched for a pulse.

Still alive.

An ominous red glow lit up her surprisingly pale face. Link felt a chill down his spine and the hairs on his neck began to rise.

Something was behind him.

Slowly, he rose up and turned around sword in hand.

It was Ganondorf. Shriveled and old, he was just standing there.Menacingly.

The once blue sky began to fade into a deep, bloody red.

Shit.

He was trapped. No Master Sword this time.

Not that it had helped much.

The, for lack of a better word, puppetof Ganondorf opened its mouth. The raspy sound that escaped was completely inhuman. Then again, Ganondorfwasinhuman.

"Four weeks."

Link glanced back up.

"Four weeks you have evaded capture."

It was easy.

"Four weeks you have rebelled against me."

Cause you're killing my friends.

"Four weeks you have decimated my progress."

Take that, you overgrown pig!

"Four weeks you have reviled against your King!"

Ganondorf's shriveled head snapped up.

Link backed away. This guy needed to get checked out.

"But no matter. I will still dispose of you yet. Go forth, my Phantom!"

Light.

That was all she could see.

Never-ending, blinding light. It was consuming all of her, slowly eating away at her soul. She knew it was worth it, but she couldn't quite remember what for.

But there was something, in the corner of her eye, something that didn't quite seem right. Darkness was creeping into the edge of her vision. Something sickly, spreading, threatening to take control.

Yet inside, there was something going on. What, she couldn't quite tell. It called to her, like the light had, and she felt a great need to enter.

Crap.Link hopped out of the way of the blade, narrowly escaping the slash.

This guy was good. He was bringing down every swing with full power, forcing Link into the defensive.

The corpse leapt towards him again, swinging the blade much faster. Bringing his sword up to block the attack, Link gritted his teeth.

I can't hold out much longer.

Upon entrance, she noticed two things.

First, there was a very unsettling tint of red. A deathly red, it illuminated the dark, bringing light to the second thing.

The two figures.

Their swords clashed once again. Breathing heavily, Link shuddered. His arms were starting to cramp up. His shirt was soaked with sweat. His rusty old sword was on the verge of shattering.

With a piercing shriek, the blade came slicing through the air again, this time too fast for him to block.

Link gasped as the sword slashed across his chest, leaving a trail of dark-red blood in its wake.

Dammit.

There was no way he was getting out of this one.

Taking up his sword once again, he forced himself to hold on.

One of the figures was pure evil, that she could easily see. It seemed to be the cause of the chaos.

The chaos that wasnowspreading like a cloud of blood in the water.

The chaos that seemed to be overtaking the other figure, a young man with dirty blond hair and an old tunic.

Something in the back of her mind told her she should know who he is, but she couldn't quite place it.

The first figure, the one coated in evil, charged again. The young man seemed to be struggling.

It clicked into place.

She knew what she must do.

With a sudden snap, Link's blade went flying from the hilt, landing a couple of feet away. Ganon slowly shambled towards it, cackling.

That wasn't gonna help.

Grabbing Link's broken blade with his bare hands, Ganon's puppet brought it up and crushed it with a smile.

"No one to protect you now, Little Hero!"

Slowly, Link staggered to his feet with a grunt. He had been bested. His sword was broken, he had been hit in more places than he could count, and, with no shield to protect him, It didn't look like he was getting out of this one. Besides, he was starting to get dizzy. Either from blood loss or exhaustion, he couldn't tell which. "Well...well...well."Ganondorf's voice echoed throughout the clearing. But there was something...something different this time. Ganondorf's mouth was moving, but the sound that came out was something...sinister.It was scraping over Link's ears like nails on a chalkboard. It was a horrible, loathsome sound. The kind that you would immediately know was a villain's. Now Ganondorf, obviously, was a villain, but this was arguably worse. This was a voice that was crawling, creeping out of the throat of Ganon. It was like he was possessed."I remember this."Phantom Ganon's mouth was moving again, drowning out Link's thoughts."I remember this all too well."Ganondorf chuckled."There you are, weakened and injured. You can barely even stand!"Ganondorf's head twisted to the side as his eyes were overtaken by a bloody shade of red."And I,"He paused."Am about to win. About to kill the Hero forever. About to triumph, and bury you six feet under. There was no way I could have lost!"Link's breath sped up.How could he know? Wasn't Ganondorf under the castle when the Calamity awoke? Wasn't it a guardian that ended him?"And then...and THEN,"Ganondorf spoke up again."Your precious princess ruined everything. With thatoneblow, everything was over. Vanished. Gone. I was forced to retreat."His piercing stare met Link's eyes."Onlythistime, there's no princess to save you. For I have destroyed her! No, worse. I have cursed her, cursed her to fly the heavens, forever alone."

With a shout he leapt towards Link once again, sword raised high.

"NO!"

"YOU WILL NOT TAKE HIM FROM ME AGAIN!"

The earth began to quake as a rumble deep as thunder spread across the plateau.

A dragon.

A long, scaled dragon enveloped in what could only be described as light rocketed through the clouds with a roar. On its right claw something resembling the tri-force was glowing. Link warily glanced up at the dragon with hope.

Zelda?

The supposed Zelda swept down and grabbed Ganondorf in her jaws. With an epic screech, he disappeared and the sky began to revert to normal.

But Zelda was gone.

Again.

Having been both emotionally and physically drained, Link finally closed his eyes and succumbed to the darkness with athud.
