He wanted to tell her not to marry Geoffrey.

She wanted him to tell her not to marry Geoffrey

But as always words were left unspoken

They were in the kitchen and Angela was going over her pro and con list. Tony couldn't believe it. She needed a pro and con list to tell her whether marrying Geoffrey was a good idea or not? Where was the spontaneity? If she really loved him and wanted to marry him she would have shouted yes and leapt into his arms the second he proposed. But instead she told him she had to think about it.

What in the world was going on with her? It should have been a simple yes. That was how it was when he asked Marie to marry him. She didn't hesitate or tell him she would think about it. Instead she had shouted up to her parents: "Hey Ma! Hey Pa! I'm marrying Tony!"

But for some reason Angela was taking her time and leaving Geoffrey waiting by the phone for an answer. And as much of a dork as he was, it wasn't fair to leave him hanging. He deserved an answer no matter what it was.

Tony hoped of course that her answer would be no. He wanted to tell her to say no. He longed to tell her that he didn't want her marrying Geoffrey or any man for that matter. Was he being fair? Probably not. But he liked-no loved the family they had created. And someone else coming in would just upset the foundation the five had them had built. But it wasn't his call. After all he was just her…..housekeeper.

She was telling him all of Geoffrey's pros. He was neat, punctual, witty, and was a great cook. The only con was that he overindulged her. But was that really a con? She was an amazing woman and deserved to be treated like a queen. If he were her man he would do just that. Pink roses. Her favorite desserts. Nights out on the town. Unfortunately that would never happen. After all he was only her…housekeeper.

She asked him if he could think of anything else to put on her list. Something that would either make her want to marry Geoffrey or not marry Geoffrey. Yeah, there were several things he could think of. At the top was whether or not Geoffrey knew his way around a house. After all he had grown up with servants like Angela had. Did he know how to do laundry? How to clean the oven? Has he ever washed a dish in his life? These were things that were important in a marriage.

"Is he going to put laundry detergent in the dishwasher?" He asked, almost afraid of the answer.

"Of course he knows what he's doing!"

Tony rolled his eyes and turned away from her. Yeah, he was right to be afraid.

But that wasn't what she meant. She asked him about more personal things that a wife would expect and want from her husband. He knew what she was referring to. At least he thought he did. But knowing how naïve she could sometimes be, it was hard to tell. So he asked her how Geoffrey was in the garage. He said that a man should be able to satisfy her automotive needs. She told him that that wasn't a problem because Geoffrey had his own metric tool kit.

'His own metric tool kit? What the hell does that mean? Oh Angela, if you couldn't understand that what I was really asking was how Geoffrey was in the bedroom and if he satisfied your physical and sexual needs you are in bigger trouble than I thought!'

Angela looked over her list again and stated that Geoffrey had a lot to offer. Once again Tony was taken aback. If that were true then why didn't she just say yes in the first place? This isn't something you think about, you feel them. And that was her problem. She was thinking too much about her answer. He told her that when he asked Marie to marry him that she didn't think she just jumped in his arms and said yes.

"We didn't have to think things through. We knew."

Angela was mesmerized by his recollection. It was one of the sweetest things she had ever heard. But Tony and Marie had been young and foolish. Geoffrey and her were two mature adults who had to be sure that marrying each other was the right thing to do.

'But, I want. No, I need you to tell me not to marry him!'

But no matter what she said or did he wouldn't tell her. It was like she would go left and he would go right.

Damn it. What did she have to say or do to get him to tell her to say no?!

Damn it. What did he have to say or do to get her to say no?

He knew of course that there wasn't anything that would even come close. In short of telling her that he was in love with her. But what would that have accomplished? Was she really going to tell him that she felt the same way? And then what? Would she really be satisfied dating her housekeeper? He didn't want her marrying Geoffrey but he knew he was more on her level than he ever would be.

"Tony please I really value your opinion as… my friend." She looked at him expectantly. She felt her hopes rising. Maybe he would tell her that he had feelings for her and that he didn't want her to marry Geoffrey.

"That's just it Angela. I'm not just your friend. I'm your….housekeeper. "

"Oh, okay."

"I mean I know I'm not just your housekeeper and you're not just my boss. After all, we're raising Sam and Jonathan together. Mona too." He smiled in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"Yeah that's true." She said softly.

'Tony, please tell me you don't want me marrying Geoffrey. I need to know if there's a chance for us.'

But he didn't say anything.

Her heart broke in a million pieces but at least now she had an answer.

She told him that she was going to tell Geoffrey that she would marry him.

He nodded and looked away.

He wanted to tell her not to marry Geoffrey

She wanted him to tell her not to marry Geoffrey.

But as always words were left….

Unspoken.
