Chapter 2

Lightwing

He honestly didn't understand Whiteout at all, he knew that she spoke weirdly, but he wasn't really prepared for it. And so did Arctic... At least... that's what Jack thought.

There was a clear way to tell that all three of the dragonets were part IceWing, Darkstalker had a thin white lining under his wings, Whiteout had white wings and horns, and Lightwing just had white wings, overall Whiteout resembled an IceWing the most out of her siblings.

Despite being Arctic's favorite, Whiteout was not required to attend this so-called meeting, and from what Darkstalker told him; Arctic was trying to see if any of his dragonets had inherited his animus power... Mainly to get Prudence off his tail about it.

"Darkstalker and Lightwing, you should already know why you're here... because somebody likes to stick his powers where they don't belong," Arctic explained... Which was true for the most part, and unlike Darkstalker; Jack hadn't hatched under any full moons, just like Foeslayer.

Both Jack and Darkstalker were handed a random item that Arctic found lying around the house. "Turn the items that you are given into anything your wild imaginations can think of," Arctic instructed the two of them.

Darkstalker rotated the pencil in his claws, then brought it close to his snout and whispered something to it. It sounded very much like a spell, but the pencil remained a pencil.

Jack did the same thing, he whispered to his paper to spontaneously combust, but nothing happened, he was clearly not an animus like Arctic hoped.

"Disappointing..." he grumbled to himself and walked away, back to his room where Foeslayer was waiting for him.

"What about Whiteout?" Lightwing asked Arctic. "Why exclude her when she could be the animus of the family?" Jack looked to the couch where Whiteout was reading a scroll, it was like she hadn't even heard her name being mentioned.

Arctic stopped to look at Whiteout as well, Jack knew exactly why she wasn't included. It was partly because of the way she spoke, at also because when she was playing with her toys; she had told one of them that it should be prettier, Arctic had been around for that and so had Jack, he just wanted to hear Arctic say it.

"You know why," Arctic simply said before walking into his room and shutting the door behind him.

Lightwing leaned closer to Darkstalker. "How did you do that?" he whispered to his brother, knowing damn well that he was the real animus, but still confused as to how the pencil did not transform when it was ordered to.

"I'm not an animus, that's how," Darkstalker told him before heading away to his own room.

I know your secrets Darkstalker, you cannot hide them from me, and I can also reveal them to father if you insist on trying to keep them from me. Lightwing thought at his brother, which earned him an angry glance and an invitation into Darkstalker's room.

Jack gleefully strutted into his brother's room where Darkstalker stood there looking incredibly angry.

"To address how exactly you know... Would you care to explain that?" Darkstalker asked.

"Oh yes, of course, I simply noticed your strange behavior whenever grandmother brought up the topic of one of us being an animus, you don't exactly hide it very well... other than trying to find an excuse to hide in your room," Lightwing explained, it was a version of the truth, Darkstalker always acted much more formal whenever Prudence visited, but also because of another reason which he dared not think about.

"It's like we're being visited by Queen Vigilance with the way you act," Lightwing continued. "You're lucky that I'm the only one who noticed."

Darkstalker only glared at Lightwing. "Fine. I'm an animus, and now, would you care to tell me why you keep thinking about scavengers?" he asked Jack.

Jack was speechless. "Well... It certainly is a fair trade... Sometimes, during the day, I sneak to the library, they have tons of fictional stories about scavengers, I find them cool," Jack explained.

Jack tried his absolute best to "remember" reading about how The Avengers thwarted Loki's attempt to use the Chitauri to take over New York.

Darkstalker narrowed his eyes at Jack, but he pointed to the door. "Your answer is acceptable, but you've earned a place in my list of suspicious dragons," he told Lightwing.

Lightwing opened the door but turned to look back at Darkstalker. "You may want to visit the library on occasion, you might just catch Clearsight off guard," he told his brother before leaving the room.

Jack decided that it would be a good idea to go outside for a short flight, when he was a kid as a human, his parents would get angry when he left the house without them knowing, Arctic and Foeslayer weren't like that, they were fine with Lightwing leaving, so long as he came back in one piece.

He enjoyed flying under the night sky as much as any NightWing, but usually he preferred to have a destination, so he went to the library so "fill his mind with knowledge" ... That was the motto for some strange reason.

Lightwing opened the door and immediately saw the thousands of scrolls on racks, granted that the holes designed for scrolls were shaped like squares instead of kinda like a rhombus or something, he had brought up that topic in one of his short encounters with Clearsight.

"Ah, Lightwing again, shall I make you a private room like I did for Clearsight?" the librarian asked him, yes, unlike the Jack of the human world; Lightwing often went to the library.

"No thank you, you can hold off on that, I'm just another ordinary visitor, I don't need special treatment so I can pour over scrolls containing details of the future," Lightwing chuckled.

The librarian snorted and looked back down to whatever he was doing behind his desk.

Jack looked through the window to Clearsight's library room, and sure enough from the tail disappearing behind the wall meant that she was here, which probably meant that Darkstalker wouldn't be making an appearance.

Jack found a scroll on SeaWings and began reading it. It had facts about their abilities, the royal lineage, and even the current animus of Albatross, and it was quite interesting if he was completely honest.

When Jack finally put the scroll back and looked out the window, the sun had started to rise, it was definitely time to go back home now.
