Icarus had leaned against the window of the car as he looked towards the trees it passed by as the vehicle moved, clearly wide awake. His twin sister, Irine, was already fast asleep after a few minutes into the car ride, her body already exhausted even after sleeping on the plane before getting picked up by Sue Clearwater from the airport. Icarus continued to stare out the window of the car, his eyes felt heavy yet he refuses to get a single wink of sleep until they reach their destination. Sue looked towards the back with the rear view mirror, seeing that Icarus hasn't slept at all since being picked up from the airport.
"I'm going to stop by the gas station to get some gas for the car before arriving at the Rez, do you want anything to eat?" Sue questioned Icarus, yet he looked towards her and shook his head, going back to staring out of the car window. He let out a small sigh as he looked out the window, zoning out from reality for a few seconds before the car came to an abrupt stop, causing him to gain focus on his surroundings once again. He looked out the window and saw that Sue had stopped at a gas station before continuing onto the road. The gas station was small, yet looked like it had the basic essentials that someone would need. He gently shook his twin sister awake, she stretched as she began to wake up slowly, yawning quietly as she rubbed the tiredness out of her eyes.
"We're at a gas station, Sue's getting gas for the car. I'm goin' to the bathroom, are you?" Icarus questioned Irine, speaking in a quiet voice in order not to frighten her while she was still in a more sleep-induced state. "Yeah, I was 'bouta ask you that, to be honest," Irine had replied to her brother—who whispered a "yeah, right."—as she stretched one last time before exiting the car. They both walked inside the building, and their noses almost immediately scrunched up as they took in the smell of the inside of the gas station. "Out of all of the most horrid smelling things we've encountered, why's it gotta be a gas-station of all places," Icarus had said the moment he had a slight whiff of the smell that came from the place. The twins walked in the rancid-smelling building and quickly found their respective designated restrooms, checking to see if there were any available stalls before entering.
After using the restroom (and Icarus silently panicking because he thought the stall didn't have any toilet paper), they washed their hands and left quietly, Irine popped her neck while Icarus yawned as he stretched before freezing suddenly. Icarus' eyes went wide while his hands balled up into fists as a familiar scent hit him, which was that of decay, copper, and somehow that of pine trees. "What's wrong? Is everything alright-" Irine's question was cut off short after the familiar scent hit her nose, her eyes went wide as the scent overwhelmed her senses.
Irine suddenly grabbed Icarus' wrist and ran out of the gas station, both twins ran out with adrenaline in their veins, their eyes filled with panic and fear. They got back to the car and entered, they breathed heavily as they sat in the back of the car with panicked faces. "We have to leave. Now," Icarus had told Sue with fear in his eyes while there was some panic laced within his voice. Sue was about to question the teen before seeing a man she immediately recognized from somewhere, her eyes narrowed before she turned on the car and reversed it quickly. She put the car in driving mode before stepping on the gas, driving quickly while the man from before gave chase.
Sue drove as fast as she could, making sure to loose the guy that was chasing them at speeds only vehicles can reach while trying to keep the twins safe. "Shit, this guy isn't giving up, is he?" Sue questioned as she drove down the road before suddenly turning the car and going onto a dirt road, "You know how I said you guys will be staying with me and my two kids? Well, change of plans, you're gonna stay with an old friend of mine for a while!" Sue had told the kids while kept the car on the dirt road within the woods, which effectively got them—and the car—out of the man's sight.
"But, why? Mom said that we were supposed to be staying with you," Irine had reasoned as the car's speed had slowed down before completing stopping in the middle of the dirt road, Sue turned off the car before turning towards her with a worried expression, her eyes were filled with panic. "Listen, that guy that was chasing us down earlier knows that you'll be on the Rez, which as almost as crazy as it sounds, isn't good. He'll try to harm the both of you if I don't get you guys somewhere safe and away from him. I have this old friend that the man is afraid of, like he's going to piss his pants the moment he sees her kind of afraid." Sue had explained to both of the twins, watching as both of them looked towards each other before looking back to her.
Sue sighed as she saw the twins unconvinced looks before she sighed and explained further. "Look, you have to trust me when I say this, that guy that just chased us is scared of her because of how powerful she is, plus her and her family don't hurt humans. They drink animal blood instead of human blood, their eyes are gold instead of blood red. That's going to play a major role if you end up seeing a vampire trying to be all nice and friendly with you, even if it's one of my old friend's family members besides my old friend, okay?" She quietly hoped for the twins to trust her with her explanation alone. Icarus sighed as he looked away for a moment, contemplating the words that came from Sue before looking back at her.
"We'll trust you, but my question from when we were away from the airport still stands, where will we be going to school from now on, especially since we've had an American education for majority of our lives?" Icarus had questioned Sue, she looked away for a moment before looking back towards Icarus and his twin sister. "You'll both be going to Forks High School, I'll set up your papers for the school and everything once we get to my friend's, okay?" Sue had replied to Icarus, she smiled softly after both twins had nodded their heads in agreement before she turned on the car again and began to drive.
"Alright. Now, let's get the show on the road then."
