Chapter 3
Lightwing
None of Lightwing's family knew the truth about the cheerful dragon that lived in their own house, and he would never tell them... Not ever... The timeline couldn't afford it. Which was most likely why Clearsight hadn't seen it in any of the futures.
"Lightwing, what are you doing?" Clearsight asked him, she kind of had a point in questioning him, he was sitting under a tree staring at the moons for who know how long.
Lightwing blinked out of the daydream that he'd been in. "Huh? What did you say?" he asked Clearsight.
She sighed and walked away to join Darkstalker in his little picnic, Fathom hadn't arrived yet though.
Lightwing turned to see Clearsight sitting down on the picnic cloth and begin subtly eyeing the basket in front of her, Darkstalker noticed this and opened the basket and took out a sweet which he broke in half and shared with his girlfriend.
Jack began to wonder where the rest of his group had ended up, had they all become Lightwing or something? An obvious hint was dragons having extra siblings or dragons making changes to the timeline. The thing was: it could be any dragon, he didn't know if there was a SeaWing with a family member they didn't normally have.
Ian? Malcolm? Daniel? Are you in here somewhere? He tested the possibility of all four of them being merged into the same dragon, but he got no response, he'd just have to wait to see if anything changed in the timeline. Hopefully Daniel didn't get anywhere past The Brightest Night, because then it would be total chaos.
"Hey Lightwing! Come over here and have a sandwich!" Clearsight called to him.
Lightwing turned around again to look at Clearsight and Darkstalker. "Are you sure you're not just luring me over so your boyfriend can read my unpredictable mind?" he asked her jokingly, which earned him a glare from Darkstalker. "I'm perfectly content with staying over here, thank you very much." He smiled at them and then returned to sitting under the tree.
He snatched a falling leaf in his talons and attempted to use his frostbreath on it, but it mostly was just fire with bits and pieces of ice in it.
Lightwing thought back to how IceWings used their deadly breath, they sucked in the air and then ice came out, so he tried again. This time it froze completely; he had to throw it away before the ice reached his claws.
A sandwich suddenly appeared in front of him, Darkstalker must have used his scroll to do that, so he turned back around with a stern face. "Why exactly did you bring your scroll along with you?" he asked his brother, to which Darkstalker simply blinked and mimed eating the sandwich.
Lightwing sighed and ate the sandwich that Darkstalker so generously used his magic to give him. His brother had no discipline over his magic at all, but it wasn't too bad right now, it only started to be used for dark things after Fathom arrived... Well... There was the tail band that he made to kill his enemies...
Jack had lived a life on Pyrrhia for about four years, just another three more and he could safely get himself into fights with IceWings, dragons had to be seven years or older to join the army, not that he even wanted to join the army, he just needed to be captured, that was the entire plan after all; he could actually make a difference in the war if he was on the other side, convincing Queen Diamond to stop the fighting, forgive his family and have more animus heirs so they didn't disappear from the tribe.
Unfortunately, he didn't think Snowfox would agree to that, she'd probably kill Diamond on the spot if she did that.
OK, I don't think Darkstalker's listening, so let's go over the plan again. Step one: turn seven years old. Step two: join the NightWing army. Step three: survive long enough to pose a real threat to the IceWings. Step four: be the last NightWing standing in a battle that includes Queen Diamond herself. Step five: be captured by the IceWings. And step six: turn the tide by any means necessary.
Yeah, it's a good plan.
It's not like anything would stand in his way... right?
"What are you thinking about?" Darkstalker had mysteriously snuck up on him, he had clearly heard Lightwing's plan, not good at all.
"I- uh... Nothing at all, go back to Clearsight why don't you?" Lightwing stammered.
Darkstalker stepped to the side to reveal that Clearsight was standing right behind him. "Well... I can't really argue with that, right?" Lightwing sighed.
"We both know your plan, why are you trying to hide it from your family?" Clearsight asked him, sitting down next to her boyfriend's brother.
Lightwing sighed. "I don't want to put any of you in harm's way while I stop the war, that's why," he explained.
"How would you stop the war?" Darkstalker chimed in, Lightwing had never really thought of that though.
"I know more about the future and the Ice Kingdom than any dragon in the Night Kingdom... including father," Lightwing said.
Darkstalker looked confused. "You're not a seer or an IceWing, so how would you know those things?" he asked.
Lightwing pictured the Forbidden Treasury, what Diamond wanted Arctic to make for his gift, and Arctic's dramatic escape from the Ice Kingdom with Foeslayer. He then pictured the Diamond Trial and Snowfall... No, he shouldn't go there with Darkstalker reading his mind and seeing the events that Lightwing was thinking about.
Darkstalker must have caught that though, based on his confused expression. "What was that last event?" he asked Lightwing.
"Er... Just an IceWing queen two thousand years from now... probably nothing though... right?... Are you going to get off of me?" Lightwing asked, apparently Darkstalker hadn't realized that his talon was pinning Lightwing to the ground.
Lightwing scrambled to his talons and ran away from Darkstalker and Clearsight, the less they knew, the better.
