Darius and Yaz raced through the junglw as fast as they could while dragging Peter. Whatever the seismic change was, it did some real damage to the V252. It was slowly beginning to reshape itself around giving some sort of control. Nut there was still a whole group of men coming after them.
"Any sign of them?" Yaz asks.
Darius looked back and only saw waving flashlights. "Not yet."
"Come on!" Yaz cried, lifting Peter to help him run.
Back with Hawkes and Brooklynn, he dragged her out of the facility through the door where Montana and Wu looked over in surprise, a handful of men still with them.
"Huh?" Wu was shocked to see her. "You! You and the other campers, you never made it off the island."
"Oh, you know, we just happen to enjoy death and destruction," Brooklynn said sarcastically.
"Hate to miss out on this reunion, but her friends took the laptop," Hawkes tells him, tossing Brooklynn over to Montana. "Watch her!"
"Am I getting extra for babysittin'?" Montana asks.
"You can argue about your money later," Hawkes snarled as he and a few others marched out into the jungle.
"Yaz is pretty much the fastest girl on the planet, and Darius is a pro at avoiding dinos," Brooklynn stated. "Trust me, they're long gone by now."
"With Hawkes on their tail, they won't get far," Montana stated.
"Well, if they aren't, then you're going to have to deal with Peter," Brooklynn said as she crossed her arms with a smug smile.
"Peter?" Wu asked in confusion and scoffed. "Don't worry. He's harmless."
"Oh, right, you weren't caught up," Brooklynn said with a smug, not planning to give it away.
Darius and Yaz rushed through the bushes and stopped for a moment. They looked down and saw Peter was unconscious as the mask revealed his unconscious face.
"Peter, come on, wake up," Yaz whispered, shaking him. "We need you."
Hawkes used thermal goggles and spotted them up ahead. "I know you can hear me!" he called out, getting the two to gasp. "Set down the laptop, and nobody gets hurt. I won't come any closer." He signaled for some of his men to move on ahead. "You have my word."
They heard bushes being pulled and shaken, causing them to gasp in worry. That was until they looked down and saw Peter was gone. They frantically looked around to try and see where he went, but that was when they heard other worldly snarling coming from the trees.
Just as the men with guns came out of the trees, they gasped. That was followed by tendrils coming from the trees, grabbing ahold of the men, and raising them into the air by their heads before slamming them into the ground. They were shocked to see Peter, his suit looking much more slimy than before. He leaped at one of the others in the bushes, letting out a roar they've never heard from him before.
"What the hell is that?!" One of them asked.
Peter then leaped at them, using the tendrils, and tackled several at once. He smacked one into a tree, one other opening gite as he shot out a tendril to knock him into an approaching group before spinning and throwing him away.
Hawkes watched it happen in surprise as he backed off. "We're heading to the valley to load up the chopper. That gives you about two hours to get there and bring me that laptop. It's the only way you'll ever see your friend again."
Peter frantically looked around as several more of the bombs were thrown. But this time he was prepared. Grabbing the bombs, he threw them upward into the air, the glimpses of flashing light giving Peter a clear sight of Hawkes and Brooklynn, and Wu. He snarled and was about to chase after them when he heard more guns and looked back toward Darius and Yaz. He snarled and shook his as it was almost like Peter just woke up from a dream. He looked around and was shocked at all of the people he attacked. He knew Darius and Yaz were the priority right now, and when they were safe, and the laptop was far from Wu's reach, he was going to come back here and rip them limb from limb.
Running over, he grabbed Yaz and Darius and then shot off into the air. Using his tendrils he leaped over a large distance to get them away from the people.
Laura sniffed the air as they approached the boat. "I don't smell Rexy." She then came through the bushes and sniffed the air again. "I don't smell the others though."
Maybe they're back on the boat," Kenji said.
"They can't be..." Sammy was beginning to consider the worst. That was until suddenly they headd something crash, getting them to look over and see Peter land with the other two. "'Cause they're here!
Everyone rushed over to them as Peter morphed the V252 off of him with a groan. He winced from the strange pain he was feeling, not entirely sure what went down.
"You're okay!" Sammy cheered as they saw each other.
"We thought you left on the chopper!" Ben said.
"Hold up." Kenji noticed their missing member. "Where's Brooklynn?"
Brooklynn was using Wu's umbrella to keep smacking the pipes in the hallway as Montana and Wu watched her.
"Must you continue doing that?" Wu asks.
"Doing what, Doc?" Brooklynn asked sarcastically, smacking the pipe. "This? This? This?"
"It's quite annoying. And it's "Doctor"." Wu stated.
"Well, maybe I'll stop doing this, Doctor…" Brooklynn mocked as she kept clanging the pipes. "...when you stop rocking turtlenecks and making dino/hybrid monsters."
Hawkes finally returns and grabs the umbrella from her.
"Reed?" Montana asks.
"The laptop?" Wu asks.
"Not yet." Hawkes snarled. "Her friends and whatever that freak out there still has it."
"Freak?" Brooklynn was confused.
"Whatever it was, it tore through our men," Hawkes said, shoving Brooklynn into the office. "Get what you need. Then we head to the chopper. No matter what, we stay on mission."
"Pretty sure my squad and I already ruined your little mission," Brooklynn said with a grin.
Hawkes snickered. "Don't worry, they'll bring us the laptop. Because if they don't, things ain't gonna go too well for pink-haired girls around here."
Brooklynn was a little spooked by the threat but didn't show it as she smacked the umbrella against the desk.
"Okay, you're gonna stop that right n-" Montana was going to threaten. That was when they heard a soft growl. "Uh-oh."
A Baryonix was making its way through the halls. They raised their guns while Wu backed off and Brooklynn raised the umbrella.
"You left her with them?" Kenji asks in shock.
"It's what Brooklynn wanted." Darius defended. "We just need a plan to get her back."
"Give them the stupid laptop. Plan done!" Kenji stated.
"It's not that easy," Darius replied.
Peter stated. "Brooklynn gave herself up to keep this laptop out of their hands. We are not going to just tive it to them!"
"And when do you get to make that kind of decision?" Kenji asked him.
You wanna fight me on this, rich boy?" Peter snarled in his face. "I will gladly-"
"Peter!" Yaz jumped in the way, pushing them apart. "Calm down." She said to him sternly. "I get we're worried, but calm down."
Peter looked at Yaz and looked back up at Kenji and sighed. He knew Yaz was right. He was just angry and irritated after the beating his head took from those sonic grenades. "You're right, Yaz. Sorry." He sighed and rubbed his head. "I'm just tired." He then backed off to take a small walk. "I am done with this island."
Laura was starting to also get worried. "I'll go see if I can talk to him."
"Yeah, go ahead," Yaz nodded, figuring Laura could talk to him.
"But Peter is right." Darius defended what was happening. "Everything that happened on the island, everything that went wrong, was because of Wu's research. The Cross-Species, the Indominous, Scorpios, Laura, the spider that bit Peter.
"If he gets it back, who knows how many more hybrids he'll make?" Yaz agreed with everyone.
"If we don't give it to them, who knows what they'll do to Brooklynn?" Kenji asks.
Ben sighed. "We don't have a choice. We have to give Wu the laptop."
That was when Darius got an idea. "Of course! We'll give it back after we copy and wipe it! We'll get Brooklynn, Dr. Wu gets nothing, and we turn him in to the cops once we reach Costa Rica!"
"Okay. But how do we copy it?" Yaz wonders.
"A flash drive!" Sammy cried. "I got one back at Camp Cretaceous!"
"Then let's do this!" Ben said, tightening his shirt on his head.
They then started to make their way back to camp. "Trust me, Kenj, this'll work," Darius promised.
"It's better." Kenji sighed.
Peter was still walking and Laura followed him. She could smell they were on the move and knew she could track their scent wherever they went. She followed Peter as he walked over to a ledge and sat down with a sigh.
Laura walked over and sat down beside him. "Tables have turned now."
"What?" Peter asks.
"Last time we were alone together, I was the animalistic one. You were the sane one." Laura explained, getting a laugh from herself.
Peter sighed as he rubbed his head. "I didn't mean to explode on Kenji like that."
"It looked like you did," Laura said.
"Its just... he didn't seem to get the idea," Peter said with a groan. "Brooklynn told us to leave her. To keep that laptop out of Wu's hands. If he got it back... who knows what he could do with the research? He could create more of us."
Laura froze when she started to put something together. "Wait.. is Wu the person who created me?"
Peter was surprised she didn't realize that, but then he figured he never got their names. "I... believe so."
Laura then thought about that for a second and looked back to Peter, bringing the focus back around. "Well...back to you, I think you are just worried about Brooklynn."
"Brooklynn. Wu making more of us. Kenji. I have a lot on my mind," Peter said as he stared off into the ocean. "This place really is beautiful...if you take away the chaos."
Laura was worried about his mind now, seeing how randomly he changed the subject. "Peter... are you worried about yourself?"
"Maybe," Peter admitted with a sigh. "I'm worried about how May will also take all of this. I... haven't thought about her much on the island. And... when we were on the boat, she came into my mind. What she might be going through. She thinks she lost us... and we were so close!" His anger returned as he gripped the log they sat on and cracked it. "If we had just left... if we just kept going...Brooklynn wouldn't be in danger. We wouldn't have to make this decision."
"And if we didn't come back, Wu would likely be on his way back to some lab, working on making more of us," Laura eased him down. "I am not defending Kenji, especially since it was his idea to come back, but it was a good thing we ended up where we were. We just need to make sure Brooklynn comes back safely." She watched him tense up to that. "And... that also worries you?"
Peter sighed and did a quick glance to make sure they weren't being watched. "I've been trying to talk to Yaz and Brooklynn about something."
"What?" Laura wonders.
"I heard everything," Peter whispered.
"We got you, Peter," Brooklynn promised him. "You've been protecting us all this time. Now it's time for us to protect you." She then placed his hand in hers. "You're going to make it through this. I... I never got the chance to say-" Kenji approached, getting Brooklynn to stop and turn to face him. "Hey, Kenji? Can you get some more water?"
Kenji nodded as he went off to do just that.
Brooklynn then looked back to Peter and leaned over. "Peter, can you hear me? I need you to hurry up and get better, okay? I've got too much that's gone unsaid for you to die now."
"Come on…" Yaz pleaded. "Please, wake up. I... I love..." She then looked to Brooklynn who shared a look. "We..."
Brooklynn leaned down and whispered into his ear something that seemed only for Peter to hear.
"I dont know if you can hear me anymore, or if you heard me at all, but... I love you. And I have a feeling that Yaz might as well. I think it's safe to say we both love you. If you don't feel the same for us I understand. But... if you are open to something strange..."
Laura had a look of shock when she heard what Peter told her. "So... Brooklynn admitted she likes you while you were on your deathbed?"
"Death bed?" Peter repeated.
"Sammy taught it to me," Laura shrugged. "But back to you."
"Yeah, Brook admitted that she and Yaz liked me," Peter confirmed with shock. "Like... what am I supposed to do with that knowledge?"
"Well, do they know you know?" Laura wonders.
"No, I haven't had a real chance to talk to them alone since the incident. I tried talking to them on the boat, but we kept getting interrupted." Peter explained. "I mean, what can I do with this information? I've got two girls that like me."
"Yeah, you do, you player," Laura almost sounded proud as she gave him a punch on the elbow.
Peter heard her say that and then gave her a confused look. "Okay, you are not allowed around Kenji anymore. I feel he is a bad influence."
Laura chuckled. "Look, I say we just focus on getting Brooklynn back." She said as they stood up. And once we get back to the boat, I will personally guarantee that nobody will interrupt you guys."
How are you going to do that?" Peter asked with a laugh. "Going to lock us below deck?"
Laura laughed sarcastically as Peter walked off. "Well, not anymore..."
Back at camp, the two of them arrived in time for Sammy to pull out the flash drive. "Still here!" She said, pulling off the gum. "I used to think Brooklynn smacking on all that gum was just plain rude. But it sure did come in handy for hiding stuff."
"I am not touching that with my bare hands," Peter told Laura.
"Almost forgot my bestie was an international super-spy," Yaz said as she opened the laptop, seeing it was working. "Hmm. Still got battery. 'Cause that would've sucked." She then plugged in the drive and saw Peyer and Laura. "You okay now?"
"As okay as I can be," Peter shrugged. "How are we with copying the computer?"
"Hang on..." Sammy then started the copying process, missing Laura was watching her work the computer to see how it worked. "It's copying, y'all!"
"Huh?" Laura asked, seeing a small green bar.
"Really slowly!" Yaz told them.
"Well, you are downloading a lot of data," Peter shrugged. "Of course, it is going to take some time."
"So if you're here, and Brooklynn and the bad guys exit the jungle there, then the rest of us should hide over here." Darius was showing a diagram that he made for the plan.
"If your plan turns out as good as this model, we're in great shape." Ben complimented.
"Great shape? Are you kidding?" Kenji asked. "What if they figure out we messed with the laptop? What happens to Brooklynn then?"
"They won't. Before Dr. Wu even gets a chance to boot up the laptop, I'll come in with a distraction." Ben answered. "It's kind of my thing now."
"While the rest of us rescue Brooklynn." Darius finished explaining. "After that, we head to the boat and get the heck off this island, once and for all."
"Sure, what could go wrong, except, I don't know, everything?" Kenji asked in anger.
"HEY!" Peter exclaimed in anger, getting Kenji to look up. Peter leaped down and slammed into the ground. "Let's not forget something here, Kenji, this was YOUR doing!" He exclaimed, poking Kenji in the chest. "We could have made it to Costa Rica if we hadn't turned around. So don't go accusing us of not taking the easy way out. We're trying to stop hell on earth. And all you care about is getting her back. We left her because she told us to. So don't use that against us." He then stared him in the face. "Don't act like that you care enough for her. I don't want to live in a world where we have to fight Cross-Species and hybrid dinos on the mainland because you think it's easier to just give them the very thing that could destroy the world. Stay in your lane, rich boy." He then gave Kenji a shove. "Just stick to the plan."
Everyone looked over to watch as Peter marched off with a snarl. They were beginning to get a little worried but figured he must be worried and taking that anger out on Kenji.
Brooklynn looked around as they were being marched through the jungle. She looked around and thought maybe making a shot for the jungle.
"I know what you're thinking," Hawkes said. "Don't."
"You'll be back with your friends as soon as we reach the rendezvous point," Wu promised.
Brooklynn scoffed. "You don't seriously expect me to trust a guy who hires mercenaries and kidnaps kids?"
"I didn't hire them, and you're not "kidnapped", you're… an unexpected complication." Wu defended. "I only came back for my research and to retrieve the Indom..."
Brooklynn didn't seem to like that mid-sentence cut off as she looked worried.
"The point is I'm a visionary pushing the boundaries of science. Hopefully, one day, you'll understand that."
"True visionaries make the world better, not worse," Brooklynn stated. "Hopefully, one day, you'll understand that. Just like Richard did."
"Richard?" Wu asked in surprise. "He survived?"
"His first encounter with Teresa," Brooklynn stated, getting Wu to look confused. "Teresa? Did he really not tell you?"
"Tell me what?" Wu asks.
Brooklynn chuckled. "Wow, and here I thought you were close. Richard added his own daughter's DNA into the mix of things you created. He said that's why the creature was so intelligent."
"He... why would he do that?" Wu asks.
"He was still grieving his lost family," Brooklynn said. "But even he realized what he did was wrong and foolish. Creating the Indominous was only asking for trouble. And not to mention the rest of them."
"The rest of them?" Wu asked.
"You think that we wouldn't learn about the Cross-Species?" Brooklynn said sarcastically. "Trust me, we've had a blast avoiding them."
Wu was surprised to hear his other experiments also escaped and got worried.
"Come on!" Kenji complained as the computer was going slow.
"Uh, Kenj, I'm not sure it's gonna go any faster just because you tell it to," Sammy said.
"We're running out of time," Kenji said. "They gave us two hours! How long has it already been?"
"About time passed for you to just shut the hell up!" Peter exclaimed. "It will be done when it is done!"
"The good news is it's done copying!" Sammy said.
"Well, then let's go!" Kenji said.
"But wiping it is gonna take at least another hour," Yaz said, smacking his hand. "But we should just make it in time."
""Should" make it?" Kenji asks.
"We'll make it." Ben said. "Have a little faith, Kenji. Besides, I'm about to go round up some extra help."
"Extra help? From who?" Yaz asks.
"The only dinosaur on the island we can trust." Ben proclaimed.
"And I am going to get some... unusual help," Peter said with a grin. "Laua gave me a bit of an idea."
Laura watched as everyone drifted away from the computer, a faint echo of their footsteps fading as they approached the gate. Ben began his preparations to leave, but Laura's curiosity was piqued. Memories of Sammy's intense focus on the screen tugged at her mind, compelling her to explore the files stored within the depths of the machine. Although her experience with reading was limited, a few numbers and letters sparked recognition.
One file name caught her eye like a beacon in the dark: *X PROGRAM*.
With a mixture of trepidation and intrigue, she clicked on the file. A treasure trove of videos and photos spilled forth, revealing glimpses into the sinister world of early Weapon X experiments—experiments that linked her to others like her. The images portrayed the fragile beginnings of her existence, showcasing various iterations of her siblings.
Her breath hitched as she stared at a haunting photograph of a figure with long, flowing white hair, their face adorned with cryptic markings. The file labeled *X23_2ZEL* sent chills down her spine.
Next, she found an image of a female that bore an uncanny resemblance to herself—almost a mirror, yet different. This version had her hair elegantly styled into a bun and strange, jagged scratch marks tracing down her cheeks, tagged as *X23 3PAR*.
Another photo revealed a youth with short white hair, and a bold *X* slashed across their face. This was *X23_1BEL, a stark reminder of their shared fate.
Yet another picture struck her—a younger version of herself, with a single claw protruding from her knuckles, suggesting a more innocent yet no less violent potential: *X23_4GAB*.
So many clones, a haunting lineage she never knew existed. The revelation crashed over her like a wave, and yet she had been led to believe she was the sole survivor.
Continuing her exploration, she delved deeper into the remnants of her history—scraps of information, poignant photographs, and even a few snippets of video featuring her genetic donor: the original Wolverine. As she watched, her heart raced; she marveled at his ferocity, the speed that turned him into a blur, the strength that made him a force of nature. There was a raw, animalistic quality in him that mirrored her own, a brutal essence that resonated in her veins.
Then, as if summoned by some dark prophecy, she discovered the most harrowing footage of all. Her heart sank as she recognized the scene: Dr. Wu and Richard ushering her video likeness into a sterile, cold room filled with her clones. They were not merely observing; they were probing, eager to understand how she functioned among them. And it was at that moment when the atmosphere turned heavily charged, that something unimaginable began to unfold.
Laura watched the camera glitch and suddenly, the clones were all at war. She watched as her video self fought through the clones as they all fought one another. She slashed at them, her knuckles bearing only bone claws. Dozens of men armed with some strange armor she hasn't seen at the Park fight through the clones, only to end up one of their victims in the process. Laura fought them all, slicing through the clones/siblings.
She backed away from the computer as she heard her ferocious scream come from the video. That was when someone walked over and paused the video of Laura, covered in blood, letting out a ferocious scream.
"What... what is that?" Sammy asked, her voice barely a whisper as she gazed at Laura.
"Me..." Laura murmured, her voice trembling with dread. She sank to the wooden floor, curling into a tight ball in the dim corner of the base. "I... I truly am nothing but a monster."
Sammy approached her, kneeling down to meet her where she was. "What? You are not a monster," she insisted, her eyes filled with concern.
"Did you not see that?" Laura replied, her gaze darting to the grim array of photographs hanging on the computer. "What I am? I'm nothing more than a monster. A weapon. X-23."
With a gentle urgency, Sammy reached out, taking Laura's trembling hands in her own. "Why do you think that? Why do you see yourself as just a weapon?"
"Because that's what I was created to be," Laura whispered, her voice thick with fear. "I am not a person. I never was..."
Sammy tightened her grip on Laura's hands, warmth radiating from her touch. "That may have been their intention, but it's not who you are."
Laura lifted her fearful eyes to meet Sammy's, uncertainty clouding her expression. "How can you be so certain?"
"Because you are one of us," Sammy declared, her voice steady and filled with conviction. "They may have molded you into a weapon, but you're part of our family now. And we don't see you as that. You aren't a weapon. You're Laura. Yes, you have those frightening metal claws, but you've used them to protect us."
Laura gazed down at her knuckles, where the glint of the claws lay hidden. "But what if I lose control? What if I go mad? What if I become—"
"Then we will be there," Sammy promised, her eyes fierce and unwavering. "I'll be right there with you."
Laura stared deep into Sammy's eyes, pools of determination and empathy that anchored her in a way she had never experienced before. From the very beginning, Sammy had never viewed her as a weapon. Others had accepted her, but Laura sensed their hesitance—a barely-there pause that lingered in the air. Sammy, on the other hand, stood steadfast, unwavering. A flicker of something ignited within Laura, a warmth that was both unfamiliar and inviting. It made her yearn to delve deeper into this strange feeling, but... what was it? Looking around, the warmth began to fade, until she turned her gaze back to Sammy, and it rushed back like a comforting tide.
Feeling a rush of heat bloom on her cheeks, Laura quickly looked away, stammering as she stood. "Uh, thanks, Sammy. I... I feel better now."
"I'm always here for you, girl!" Sammy exclaimed, her voice brightening as she pulled Laura into a tight embrace.
In the past, Laura would have recoiled at such closeness, but now she felt a radiant warmth spread through her as she accepted the hug. To her surprise, she found herself wrapping her arms around Sammy, returning the embrace with a newfound sense of connection that felt utterly transformative.
Brooklynn was a little nervous after Hawkes and Montana left the other members of their group to be snatched up by the river. They continued on their path when they heard something through the trees and ducked down. They moved forward and found a Parasaurolophuses glowing in the night as she ate. The two of them aimed to shoot the creature when Brooklynn stopped them.
"Relax. This one's just being a dinosaur." Brooklynn told them.
"See? My creations aren't "monsters"." Wu defended. "Her bioluminescence is stunning, even outside of the caves." Then a thought came into mind. "Wait, why is she here?"
"You can thank your other creations for that," Brooklynn stated. "The Scorpius rex was a monster. Both of them were."
"Both? I only made one." Wu said.
"Turns out E750 made its own E750," Brooklynn stated. "And between the two of them and the others, they would've killed everything on this island if it wasn't for us. Didn't think about that when you and Richard were being all Dr. Frankenstein, did ya?"
Hawkes then shot into the air, scaring the Parasaurolophuses. "Let's go."
Wu watched Montana yank Brooklynn and heard her words and thought back to his friend.
"And we'll meet up here." Darius finished explaining the plan to Laura and Yaz while Sammy was doing something odd.
"Click. Click."
"What you doing, Sammy?" Laura asks.
"Huh? Oh, I'm just taking a few mental pictures." Sammy explained. "This might be the last time we ever see this place."
"Yeah… I guess you're right." Darius said.
"Now smile, you guys!" Sammy tells them.
Yaz shrugged it off and decided to play along. "Why not?"
"Sure." Darius said as they got into a pose.
"Click!" Sammy said and looked at her hands. "Ugh! We gotta do it again. Laura, you blinked."
"I did what?" Laura asks in confusion. "How could I-
"I'm sure it's fine." Darius said.
"Do you really want my mental picture of this place to have you with your eyes closed?" Sammy asked them. "You look dippy!"
"Dippy?" Laura asked as the others snicker. "What does that even mean?"
"Now smile," Sammy said. "This time, don't blink Click! Perfect. Now let's take a group shot. Uh, where's Kenji?"
"Wait. Where is Kenji?" Darius asked in confusion.
Laura sniffed the air. "He isn't here."
"No, no, no." Darius panicked as they ran over to find the laptop was gone.
"I can't believe he went rogue," Yaz said in fear.
"At least he left this," Sammy said, seeing the flash drive.
"But the hard drive isn't wiped," Darius said in fear. "We got to stop Kenji."
Ben made it to the location he looked down and saw the dozens of choppers and armed men in the crowd. That was when he saw Montana, Wu, Brooklynn, and Hawkes approach the rest of them. Bumpy came out and knocked into him, getting his attention.
"Up for one last battle, old friend?" Ben asked, petting his friend.
Peter came swinging over and landed beside him. "You ready?"
Ben looked over the V252's new strange form and got a little spooked. "Uh, yeah. Where did you go?"
"Oh, I just summoned some friends who might want a reunion with Wu," Peter said as he looked down and saw Kenji running through the woods with the laptop. "No, no, no!"
"What?" Ben asked when he saw Kenji. "I thought Darius was making the exchange."
Peter snarled in anger. "He was! Kenji is going on his own."
"Then we're going to have to improvise a little," Ben said as he jumped on Bumpy. "Get ready, Bumps."
"Remember the plan. Me first, and when you see the opening, take it," Peter tells him.
"What will that look like?" Ben asks.
"You'll know," Peter promised as he leaped his way down.
"I have it! It's right here!" Kenji proclaimed, raising the laptop.
"Kenji." Brooklynn didn't like to see that he brought them the laptop.
"That's close enough," Hawkes said, keeping Brooklynn in the heart of the squad. "Doc?"
Wu sighed as he stepped ahead. "This is not how I envisioned spending my time on this island."
"I know the feeling." Brooklynn mocked.
Kenji watched Wu approach and held his hand out. They watched as he waited for them to bring Brooklynn ahead and they were doing just that. Until... A loud screech was heard, followed by Peter landing on the ground, a loud thud being heard and everyone drew their weapons at the location. That was when the dust settled and it showed Peter.
Peter looked around and sensed every one of them with their guns pointed at him. He wasn't scared of them. He would tear through all of them to keep Brooklynn safe. Wu was shocked when he saw what the suit was made out of and remembered what they said at the base. "Peter?" Wu asked in shock.
"Here's how this is going to go, Wu!" Peter exclaimed in anger. "You're going to hand over Brooklynn, Kenji is going to step back, holding the laptop, you return to the choppers, and none of your men will need to learn what the sound of crunching bones sounds like!"
"You think you're slick, showing up in some dark clothing, son?" Montana asked with a laugh. "You're outnumbered ten to one."
"No," Peter said with a snarl, tendrils forming off of his back and preparing to assist him in the fight. "You're outnumbered one to a hundred!"
Then chaos.
Peter shot off a dozen tendrils that grabbed one of them, yanking them over towards Peter, causing him to then punch him once in the chest, again in the chin, sending him flying, then doing another punch sending him flying into the crowd. Everyone ran or shot at him, but nobody was laying a finger on him.
A dozen tendrils reached off his body and grabbed another, causing them to trip, then slamming them into the ground. "This all could have been avoided if you just let... her... GO!"
Peter then started to use his acrobatic skills as he leaped above them, spinning as he latched a tendril onto one of their heads and then spun them around and slammed them into the crowd.
"Now what happens next is on YOU!"
Off in the distance, Kraven saw the monster before him and smiled. "Ah, the killer instinct. You have unleashed it." He almost sounded proud to say as he watched Peter tear through the men. "Now you are ready."
Peter then shot out a dozen tendrils to latch onto the heads of the men and lifted them into the air, slamming them into the ground. He roared at them, sending a tendril to latch onto one of the choppers, ripping off the blades, and then flung them at the people.
Montana saw the propellers coming for him and leaped out of the way and then saw the freak tearing through the men. "Nope. I ain't being paid enough for this." He then ran off toward one of the remaining choppers. "Nope! Montana knows when to leave a party!"
Peter then continued to fight through them when suddenly a sonic blast caused him to screech in pain. Turning around, he looked back and saw one of the men holding some sort of weapon that shot out a sonic vibration that harmed his suit. He snarled and ran over to deal with the suit, trying to stop it from firing again, but that was when another one had the same weapon, using it on Peter. He screamed as he dropped down, the sonic vibrations injuring the suit and stopping him from fighting back.
"Ha!" Hawkes stepped ahead and laughed when he saw they had him. "Oh, I know the Big Man will be very interested in you."
"Peter!" Brooklynn tried to fight her way through, but there were too many of them.
Peter screamed as he tried to fight through the noise, but it wasn't doing anything. That was when another loud scream filled the air, causing everyone to freeze and look off towards some boulders where the scream came from. Everyone stopped firing on Peter, the suit screeching in agony as they looked to see what was going on. That was when a lone figure marched out from behind the rocks. Her long flowing black hair was a dead giveaway to reveal who it was. It was Laura. She was carrying something as she marched her way over, everyone holding their weapons up high towards her.
Wu looked through the people in shock when he recognized who it was and walked ahead of them. "Oh, my word." He said in shock as he approached her. "X-23. You survived."
Laura then tossed what she was holding, sending it flying toward Wu, who fumbled back when he saw what it was. A head. He wasn't surprised, knowing of her animalistic nature. But everyone else in the group was shocked and a little terrified. Laura panted as she fumed with anger as she saw the man who tortured her, who created her to be this way.
"I am impressed," Wu said, shruging off the head she threw. "But I should have known you had what it took to survive." That was when he watched her as she kept approaching. "X-23."
Laura didn't stop her approach as she continued to march forward, slowly drawing her claws as she approached. "My name... IS LAURA!"
Wu was shocked when he heard her talk as Laura then went to strike, missing Wu, but stabbing one of the other men. That caused her to let out an animalistic scream as she then withdrew her claws and stabbed another in the leg. He let out a scream as she spun around, leaping upward, stabbing another in the shoulders, causing him to scream in agony. Then she spun around, taking the soldier down with her as she spun around, leaping into the air and drawing her talon claw. She stabbed another man, leaping over him and using her claws to slice right through another's gun. She made her way to a helicopter when she was then pinned by one of them.
"I got her!" He cried.
But he spoke too soon as he was kneed in the leg, causing him to wince as Laura leaped into the air, using the helicopter to wrap her legs around his head and then slammed him into the ground. But before she could finish him, she was shot through the shoulder by a harpoon. She screamed in pain as she was then yanked backward as she was being dragged off, flaying her arms around to try and cut the rope.
Peter saw Laura was in danger, Brooklynn being dragged off towards one of the helicopters and let out a ferocious scream. He got the suit under enough control to shoot off spikes that shot the men with the sonic cannons in dozens of directions. Getting back up, he shot out a dozen tendrils yet again and grabbed the men holding Laura, and raised them into the air. That allowed Laura access to cut the rope, falling down and landing while yanking the harpoon out of her shoulder and acting as if nothing happened while Peter slammed the rest of them into the ground.
"You can't take us all!" Kawkes said, dragging Brooklynn.
"Peter!" Brooklynn cried, trying to escape his grasp.
Laura ran to Peter's side as they watched for the next part of the plan to commence, while they were beginning to become surrounded. "Was that really the plan?" Hawkes asked with a laugh. "You were going to tear through us?"
"That was," Peter admitted.
"Really?" Laura asks.
"No, I was just buying them some time," Peter snarkily replied.
"Who?" Laura asks.
That was when they heard a screech in the air, prompting them to look up just as the Vulture swooped down, grabbing one of the men who screamed in terror. They opened fire on the Vulture, while the Scorpion emerged from behind the helicopters and started attacking them. Panic and chaos ensued as everyone realized that the Cross-Species were actually helping them for once. The Rhino charged through, toppling over a dozen helicopters in the process. He let out a mighty roar as everyone fired upon him, only for the bullets to harmlessly bounce off his skin.
"Wu, meet our relatives by relation," Peter said with a grin as Wu was shocked to see his creations turn against him.
Scorpion screeched as he leaped to try and attack Wu when suddenly Rhino came charging through and smacked Scoropion into the helicopter in the process. The explosion blinded the two animals but didn't harm them. Vulture flew down and Wu freaked out and ran towards one of the only choppers left. That however was the signal.
That was when they heard a pack of ankylosauruss' come down with Ben and Bumpy leading the charge. "Wow! Yeah! Let's go! Whoo!" Ben cheered.
"Ben!" Brooklynn was happy to see him as she was still being pushed towards the helicopter.
"Remember Bumpy?" Ben shouted over the tumult, his voice barely piercing through the cacophony of chaos. He glanced at Wu with an unmistakable gleam in his eye. "Well, how do you like her asymmetry now?!"
In an instant, the tranquil scene erupted into a whirlwind of panicked movement. The Cross-Species creatures, Laura, Peter, and the armored ankylosaurs all began to plow through a throng of armed men, their massive bodies creating a scene of mayhem. Wu darted around, his heart pounding, desperately searching for a safe haven amidst the swirling chaos.
Kenji weaved in and out around the ankylosaurs, his focus shattered when the laptop slipped from his grasp and hit the ground with a dull thud. Just then, as hope seemed fleeting, Yaz burst onto the scene alongside Sammy, her determination blazing as she snatched the fallen laptop and sprinted off into the fray.
"Guess who?" Ben taunted, a playful grin spreading across his face as he brushed past Wu like a fleeting shadow. "Whoo!"
"Huh?" Wu's eyes widened, a flicker of recognition passing through him as he registered Ben's familiar antics.
"I got it!" Sammy exclaimed, her voice cutting through the chaos like a beacon of resolve. "We gotta finish wiping it!"
"Don't need to!" Yaz said. "Brooklynn's free. We just have to keep it away from-"
That was when Hawkes approached them, his gun raised. "My patience is wearing thin! The laptop, now!"
Sammy saw Rhino was coming in fast and got an idea. "Oh, you want this? Catch!"
Sammy tossed the laptop into the air as the Rhino came charging and the laptop knocked into the horn, shattering it while Hawkes backed off to not be crushed and raced off.
Peter rushed his way over to the girls, leading them through the chaos of dinosaurs and Cross-Species to get them to safety. Darius already got Brooklynn, and they were rushing off to get away from all of the chaos.
"Wait, where's Laura?" Sammy wonders.
"I thought she was with you," Peter admitted.
Wu rushed to escape as he reached the helicopter and tried to climb inside. But he stopped when he heard a SNIKT, causing him to turn and see Laura standing there with her blades drawn.
"X-23, please, no..." Wu pleaded, leaning back against the chopper. "Don't do this. I created you."
"I'm not X-23," Laura stated as she marched forward, Wu whimpering in fear. "I'm not your experiment. I'm not your fucking property!" She raised her claws, and Wu thought she was going to finish him off. "You are the last person who will ever think they can own me. No one owns me!" She then sent her claws into the air, causing him to wince. But to his surprise, she didn't impact him. Instead, she stabbed the helicopter. He looked over and saw Laura staring at him with a snarl. "I'm not a thing. I'm Laura Kinney! I'm the daughter of Logan. I'm a motherfucking Wolverine!" She retracted her claws and backed off of him. "Now get the hell out of here... before I decide the world will be better off without you."
Wu didn't need to be asked twice. He quickly climbed back into the helicopter and saw that Hawkes was the only other survivor of the chaos. He climbed into the chopper and prepared to leave.
"How did you let this happen?" Wu asked him. "All my work, gone!"
"All forces, pull out. We have the package." Someone on the radio said. "I repeat, we have the package."
"Wait. The Indominus sample made it off the island!" Wu said in relief and saw Hawkes was staring off. "Hawkes!"
Hawkes then began to chase everyone in the chopper. Peter snarled as he then stretched out a tendril to snag onto the chopper. "Where are you going?!" He asked, grabbing the helicopter by the tail. "We're not done here!"
The chopper started to spiral out of control when a spear came down, slicing the tendril and causing Peter to scream in pain. Peter looked at the spear as Laura approached it it sent a shock, sending Laura falling backward as she was electrified.
"I knew you had the killer instinct!" Kraven called, getting Peter to turn and snarl at him. "You have finally embraced it." Peter snarled as he looked towards the great hunter. "You just lacked the motivation! Your pack... they are your weakness."
Peter sprung tendrils from his back and prepared to fight him. "You wanna see what it's like when I am done holding back!?"
"YES!" Kraven proclaimed.
"Then come and get some!" Peter rushed ahead, leaping into the air and Kraven rushed ahead himself.
The two of them were preparing to rush one another.
Hawkes flew the chopper after the others, causing them to run off into the woods to try and dodge the blades.
"What are you doing? We have the sample!" Wu asks Hawkes as he chases the kids. "They're not our mission."
Hawkes seemed to snap out of it when he heard that and took off, flying to spook them, causing them to fall over and dodge it as the blades came in and missed and flew away.
Ben sighed as everyone laughed and he petted Bumpy. "You did great today, Bumper Car."
Bumpy moaned.
"I guess this is goodbye for good," Ben said with tears swelling. "I'm gonna miss you, pal. Thank you for everything."
Yaz walked over and petted the dino. "We're gonna miss you, Bumpy."
Brooklynn returned the gesture and petted her. "Be a good girl."
[all moaning softly]
"Sorry, the rescue didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped," Darius told Brooklynn.
"It never does," Brooklynn said, looking around. "Wait, where's Peter?"
Peter was flung backward by Kraven as he got back up while Kravem grabbed his spear. "This will be our greatest victory! The ultimate hunt!"
"Shut up!" Peter screamed as he shot out a web to latch Kraven, yanking himself towards him. When he got close to punch, Kraven blocked the attack. "Today will be your final fight."
"I study all of my prey," Keaven stated, using his spear to try and strike, causing Peter to back off and dodge the strike. "You are agile! Intelligent! Vulnerable to emotion!" He then grabbed one of the sonic grenades from the men and tossed it. "So am I!"
When the explosions went off, Peter screamed in agony as the flashing light allowed Kraven to move.
"Don't let the power get to your head!" Kraven cried, getting Peyer to look around. "Show me what you are capable of!"
Peter then saw Kraven preparing to throw his spear as he leaped out of the way to dodge it and then used the exact spear and flung it back toward Kraven. It smacked into the tree, even destroying it and causing Kraven to leap off its branches to land on the ground.
That gave Peter enough time to latch a dozen tendrils onto him. "Rip him apart..."
"I'm going to tear you limb from limb!" Peter promises.
Kraven seemed to finally begin to get exhausted. "Beautiful..." he then got back up and grabbed Peter by the head and slammed him against the tree. "But you still hold back! The rule of the jungle... kill or be-"
That was when Bumpy came in with a roar, knocking Kraven backward and knocking him down. Bumpy let out a small moan of concern as she saw Peter as he panted in anger. He looked over towards Kraven and snarled. When he started to step towards him, he was stopped by Brooklynn. He looked at her and a wave of relief came over his anger.
"Peter... it's over," Brooklynn said, trying to calm him down. "Come on... let's go."
Peter looked over towards Kraven and nodded as he backed off. He retracted the suit with a sigh as Laura was woken up by Sammy. They all approached Bumpy and sighed.
"You are by far my favorite dinosaur, Bumpy," Peter said as he scratched her head. "Thanks for the save, girl. I almost crossed a line..." he then removed his hand with a sigh. "Who's for finally getting the hell off this island?" Everyone started to agree as they headed for the boat. But Peter stopped Kenji. "Don't think I don't know what you did. For someone who is concerned for someone, that was a dumb move. One of your dumbest, right up there with sneaking into Toro's paddock. I don't know why you wanted to stroke your ego by doing that, but if you ever do something like that again..." he then sighed and knew there was no reason to threaten Kenji with them going home. "Never mind. Lets just get out of here."
Everyone finally made it back to the boat. Most of them were exhausted or relieved to finally relax. Laura took the first chance she could to lie down and sleep. Sammy sat over her to watch over her friend. Yaz sat down and smiled as she saw they were finally going home.
"So, Dino Nerd, now that it's over, I'm guessing the whole Jurassic World experience wasn't exactly what you thought it would be," Brooklynn said as she met Darius on the ledge.
"Yeah, that's for sure," Darius said as he looked around to everyone. "But it wasn't all bad either, not by a long shot." He then made his way to the back of the boat and looked back to the island. "We made it." He then took a page from Sammy's book and took a mental image of the island. "Click."
Peter looked off to the ocean with a sigh. He rubbed his head and looked down at his hand. He almost did something horrible. He lost control of himself. It was like the anger was too much and he needed to let it out. Maybe he truly did feel the same way Brooklynn felt. He knew that he had some sort of feeling for Yaz and Brooklynn, but he didn't really know how to talk to them about it. Laura did offer to help them have a few moments alone, but she deserved the rest after everything they'd gone through. This time tomorrow, they were going to be home. He had plenty of time to talk to them on the way.
"It's finally happening, May," Peter whispered with tears swelling. "We're finally coming home..." he then looked back to the island one last time. "Goodbye, Jurassic World. Bye, dad..."
What they didn't know was there was something in the water. Something small, circling the boat. It made its way out of the water enough to reveal a dorsal fin.
