School started again a couple of days after they got home. Skye woke up with her alarm and went into the kitchen. It was quiet, she noticed a note on the table for her with a twenty-dollar bill.
We have been called away for a work emergency. Pepper left early with Morgan. Buy yourself lunch at school. Happy and I have arranged for May to pick you up and drive you to school. Pepper will be picking you up. I should be back in a couple of days. Please behave. – Dad
Skye made a quick breakfast before returning to her room and getting dressed and ready for school. When she was ready she grabbed her backpack, entered the kitchen, grabbed the twenty from the table, and put it into her wallet. She had a text from security telling her that her ride was there.
Skye went down and outside to the waiting car.
"Hey, May, thank you for taking me to school," Skye said as she entered.
"I'm happy to help," May said, smiling at the young girl.
Skye put on her seatbelt before May started the drive.
"Did you go to the convention that Peter was telling me about?" May asked.
"I did," Skye said
"Did you enjoy it?" May asked.
"I did," Skye said. She didn't know May well enough to feel comfortable going into detail about what had happened.
"Peter told me that there was a fight between two of the teenagers," May said.
Skye let out a huffed laugh. "There were actually three teenagers involved."
May nodded. "You saw the whole thing?"
"I was in the room when it happened," Skye said, again not wanting to tell May any more than that.
May nodded.
When they got to the school Skye thanked May again before she grabbed her bag, got out of the car, and went into the school.
Skye found Lily and Ivy standing by her locker and smiled.
"Hey!" she said.
"Hi!" both of the twins said.
Skye opened her locker and put her bag and coat inside.
"How was your holiday?" Skye asked them.
"Great," Ivy said.
"We spent it at our family's ski chalet in Aspen," Lily said.
"That's awesome," Skye said. "I've never been skiing. I think I would break something if I tried."
Lily and Ivy giggled.
"What did you do?" Lily asked.
"Christmas was spent at home, just with a lot fewer people than last year. But Tucker was there. I also went to a convention for gifted kids," Skye said.
"Was it fun?" Ivy asked.
"For the most part," Skye said.
"Have you seen Anna?" Lily asked.
"No, she texted me last night. She got in later than expected because of the weather and won't be here today," Skye said as she grabbed what she needed for her first class.
Ivy and Lily nodded.
She closed her locker, and Ivy said bye to the two before she went off to her class.
Lily and Skye went to their class and sat down in their usual seats.
At lunch, Skye went to her locker to put away her books and grab her wallet from her bag. She went and stood in the cafeteria line to get food. She felt like she was being watched, so she looked around and locked eyes with Carly, who was glowering at her.
Skye looked away, shaking her head. Apparently, nothing had changed. Skye grabbed and paid for her lunch before going and sitting with Ivy and Lily.
"While I was standing in line Carly was staring and glowering at me," Skye said.
"Fun," Ivy said sarcastically.
"I seriously wonder what the hell is going to have to happen for her to just leave me alone," Skye said.
"I think I know," Ivy said.
"Oh?" Skye said.
"You need to kick her ass," Ivy said.
"Because that will end well for me," Skye said sarcastically.
"You don't think you would win?" Lily asked.
"No. I probably would have the strength to kill her, not that I ever would. But I would be suspended if I were to even just push her," Skye said.
"I'm sure you could convince her to meet you off school property," Ivy said.
"That will make me no better than her. I will not stoop to her level," Skye said.
"You plan on telling the Dean about her staring at you?" Lily asked.
"No, not unless she actually comes up to me or something," Skye said.
Lily nodded.
They changed the subject.
The afternoon was uneventful. After grabbing all her stuff she went outside to look for Pepper's car. She saw it and went and got in.
"Hi, Skye, how was school?" Pepper asked.
"Hi, it was good," Skye said as she did up her seatbelt.
Skye looked back at Morgan in the back seat and smiled at her.
"Hi," Morgan said.
"How was your day," Skye asked Morgan.
"It was good," Morgan said as she started to talk about everything she had done that day.
When they got home they all went inside. Skye went to her room and changed out of her uniform. She sat at her desk taking things out of her bag and starting on her homework.
Pepper knocked on her door ten minutes later.
"Yes?" Skye said.
Pepper went in. "You okay?"
"Yeah," Skye said, a bit confused.
"I don't think I have ever seen you come home from school and not have a snack," Pepper said.
Skye smiled and shrugged. "I'm not hungry."
"I know you hate it when people ask, but are your sugar levels normal?" Pepper asked.
Skye took out her testing kit from her bag and checked, showing Pepper the number was well within range.
"Okay," Pepper said with a smile. "I'll let you get back to your homework." She left the room, closing the door behind her.
Skye continued to work on her homework, finishing just as Morgan knocked on her door to tell her dinner was ready.
Skye went with Morgan, sat at the table, and had dinner with Pepper. After dinner, Skye cleared the table and kitchen. Afterward, she went to the living room, joining Pepper and Morgan where they were about to start a movie.
