The weekend went by pretty quickly. Skye spent it catching up on homework before returning to school Monday morning.
She went to her locker, where her friends met her.
"Hey! How are you feeling?" Anna asked.
"Better. I just needed some mental health time," Skye said.
"Want to talk about it?" Lily asked.
"No, not right now," Skye said as she grabbed what she needed from her locker and closed it as the warning bell rang.
Skye went to her first class with Lily. Her day was uneventful. She went to all her classes, handing in all the missing work from when she was off.
At lunch she sat with her friends, the topic of conversation was the upcoming Valentine's Day dance.
"I already know what I'm going to wear," Lily said.
"Oh?" Anna asked.
"Pink dress that hits just below the knees, with little red bows up both sides, " Lily said.
"It's a Lily dress for sure," Ivy said.
Anna chuckled. "I'm going shopping this weekend to pick something out. Do you know what you're planning on wearing?" she asked Ivy.
"Nope," Ivy said. "But I'm sure I'll find something in my closet. What about you Skye?"
"I don't know if I'm going to go to the dance," Skye said.
"What? Why not?" Ivy asked.
"The last dance didn't end well for me," Skye said.
"Okay, but what's the likelihood that happens again?" Lily asked
"I don't know. But I don't want to take that chance," Skye said.
"What does your dad say?" Anna asked
"I haven't mentioned the dance to him," Skye said. "No point if I don't plan to go."
"Please consider coming, it won't be the same without you," Ivy said.
Skye nodded, "I'll think about it."
"You can come shopping with me this weekend if you need something to wear," Anna offered.
"I'll keep that in mind," Skye said.
They finished lunch and threw out their garbage as the bell rang, and they went their separate ways to their afternoon classes.
At the end of the day, Skye went to her locker to grab her things for home when she heard someone behind her.
"Hey, Skye," Cody said.
"Hey Cody, what's up?" Skye asked with a smile as she turned to look at him
"Are you going to the dance next week?" he asked
"Um, probably not why?" Skye asked.
"Oh, well if you decide to go would you maybe want to go with me?" Cody asked
Skye was stunned, "oh. well. Um. If I decide to go sure." She didn't know what else to say. She was too surprised with the question. "But I'm probably not going to go," she told him again.
"Okay, well let me know?" Cody asked.
"Yes, I will let you know," Skye said.
They said goodbye and Cody left. Skye finished grabbing her things and heading out to find her ride.
Skye was pretty quiet on the ride home and Happy noticed.
"Everything okay Skye?" Happy asked.
"Yes. Just tired. First day back after a week off," Skye said.
"Okay," Happy said. "Was it a good day?"
"It was okay," Skye said.
Happy nodded and drove the rest of the way home in silence.
At home that evening after dinner Skye went into the kitchen and heard Tony and Pepper discussing going out for Valentine's Day and needing a babysitter.
"I can watch her," Skye offered as she grabbed a bag of pretzels from the pantry.
"You don't have plans? There is no dance at school?" Pepper asked
"I don't want to go," Skye said.
"You're sure?" Tony asked.
"Positive, and if I have something else planned I'll have an excuse for my friends as to why I'm not going," Skye said as she put a handful of pretzels into a bowl she had taken from a cupboard.
"You couldn't just tell them you don't want to go?" Tony asked.
"Tried that," Skye said.
"Well, if you're sure, we would appreciate it if you did watch Morgan," Pepper said.
"I'd be happy to," Skye said with a smile.
"Thank you," Pepper said before Skye took her bowl of pretzels and went to her room.
"Should we be letting her use our kid as an excuse?" Tony asked.
"Sometimes teenage girls don't listen when their friends say they don't want to do something," Pepper said. "And it's not like she doesn't normally enjoy babysitting Morgan."
"What did you have to do that you didn't want to because your friends didn't listen to no?" Tony asked.
Pepper smirked, grabbed the bag of pretzels that Skye hadn't put away, and put it away for her before entering the living room.
Tony chuckled and followed sitting down next to Pepper as she was putting on their favorite guilty pleasure TV show.
