The next day Skye woke up to a text from Lily.
"Ivy's date went well. She has been walking around the house in a trance. I think we have lost Ivy to Zach."
Skye laughed and texted back.
"Has she said nothing about it?"
Lily was eating breakfast when she got the text and smirked.
"I asked the second she got home, and she said it was good. But she was all giggly and blushing hard and SWOONING," Lily sent back.
Skye grinned. "I think that means there was a kiss of some sort," She sent Lily
"How do you know?" Lily asked.
"I was the youngest in a lot of the group homes. I watched the older girls coming back from first dates. When they were like that there was always a first kiss," Skye said.
Skye got up and went into the kitchen as she continued to text. She had a big grin on her face.
"Who's got you grinning like that? Tucker?" Pepper asked with a smile.
Skye chuckled, "No, I'm talking to Lily. Seems like Ivy had a good date."
"Oh? Why isn't it Ivy telling you that?" Pepper asked.
"Apparently she hasn't said much about it. She is just very giggly and swooning," Skye said.
Pepper chuckled and shook her head.
Skye put her phone away. "Need any help with breakfast?"
Pepper nodded to the fruit on the counter. "That needs to be cut up."
Skye washed her hands before starting to cut up the fruit.
Steve came into the kitchen. "Good Morning," he said to both women.
They both returned the morning greetings.
"Plans for the day?" Steve asked Skye.
"Training with Nat and Wanda," Skye said. "I have a lot of training planned for spring break week."
Steve nodded. "Good. You have a lot of homework for over the break?"
"Some, I wouldn't say a lot," Skye said.
"Okay. Any other plans for over spring break?" Steve asked.
"Going into the city to bug Tucker at his new job," Skye said.
Steve shook his head. "Don't do anything that will get him fired."
Skye chuckled. "I would never. It's a bodega we used to go to when we both lived in the area. The owner even remembered him and me coming in all the time."
"Remembered for good reason I hope," Steve said.
"Yes," Skye said. "I think part of the reason the owner was willing to give him a chance despite his record is because we never caused trouble when we went in there."
"Good," Steve said. "Where is it?"
Skye told him where it was and the name of the place.
"Okay," Steve said.
"Can I please go without some sort of supervision?" Skye asked.
Steve took a breath.
"Please," Skye asked again. "It's not like it's in a bad area. And I promise I will stay out of trouble."
"I'll think about it," Steve said.
At that point, everyone had made their way into the kitchen and sat together for breakfast.
After breakfast, Skye went to her room and put on some leggings and a sports bra. She went back to the kitchen and filled a water bottle before going to the training room. A few minutes later Nat and Wanda joined her, and the three started to train together.
After a bit, Nat and Wanda decided it was time for a break.
"What you two tired?" Skye asked with a smirk.
Nat drank some water from a bottle she had brought into the room before she chuckled. "Yes. I do not have the super serum running through my blood."
"And no matter if you feel tired, you need to stay hydrated," Wanda said nodding to the bottle that Skye had left on a bench on the side of the room before she took a drink from her own as well.
Skye took the bottle, opened it, drinking half of its contents before recapping it and setting it back down.
After a few minutes, Skye was growing bored. "Come on, Let's keep going."
Wanda chuckled, and she and Nat got back to training with Skye for another hour before it was called for the day.
The three women went back upstairs, and Skye went and stripped out of her sweat-soaked clothes and took a shower. When she was done and dressed in a sweatsuit, she looked at her phone and sent a text to Ivy wanting to hear from her how the date went. She went to the living room and flopped on the couch, putting her feet up on the coffee table in front of the couch and scrolling her social media.
She heard someone come into the room from the entrance to the living quarters of the compound, and she opened her eyes to see Nick Fury. She had only met him once before. She knew he didn't come around much.
"Hello, Sir," she said.
"No one calls me Sir, it's Fury," he said.
Skye smiled and nodded.
"Where is your dad?" Fury asked
"I'm not sure, maybe the office," Skye said.
Fury nodded and went that way, and he found Steve. Half an hour later her phone went off with a text from her dad. She was told to come to the conference room. Skye got up and went in finding everyone in there.
"Oh, hi," she said. She hadn't realized everyone else was in there, and she could see every Avenger who wasn't there on the large screen in the room including Thor, Kid Loki, Dr. Strange, and America. Clearly, they had been conferenced in.
"Sit," Tony said nodding to an empty seat.
Skye went and sat next to Yelena. She could feel how tense the room was.
The large screen was split and a picture was put up. Skye could see the date in the corner was two days before and it was not a very clear picture, but Skye could see that it looked like her.
"Loki pretending to be me again?" Skye asked.
"No," Loki said defensively
"It could not have been him," Thor assured Skye.
Skye nodded. "It wasn't me."
"We think it could be a variant of yours," Tony said.
"Oh," Skye said.
"But it would raise the question of how she got here," Tony said.
"Are you asking me if I know anything? Because I don't," Skye said.
"Chavez?" Tony asked.
"I have not brought anyone back here, no," America said.
"You been multi-verse traveling and come in contact with a variant of Skye?" Fury asked.
"Yes, to multiverse traveling, but, no, I haven't come into contact with a variant of Skye's since the time that is known about," America said.
"Is there any way to find out what multi-verse she is from?" Skye asked.
"Not unless we find her," Dr. Strange said.
"But if my abilities didn't work well there, will hers even work here?" Skye asked.
"Well, you could use them, they just didn't affect her," America said.
"She might not be able to hurt you, but there could still be a risk to the public. And also a risk to you if people think she is you," Tony said.
"I'm in lockdown now, aren't I?" Skye asked.
"If it's the same variant that you met, she might be looking for you. if she even knew to come here. She might not if she wants to get you alone," Fury said.
Skye looked at her dad, realizing he hadn't said anything, and she knew from experience that when it came to her he did not keep his opinion to himself.
Steve noticed her looking at him with a questioning look on her face.
"No, Skye. I don't like this, but Fury is right," Steve said.
Skye nodded a little before looking back at the rest of the group. "What do I need to do?"
"You should let anyone that could be targeted for being your friend know to be on guard and that you will not visit them randomly so if you variant does they know it's not you," Fury said.
Skye sighed, took out her phone, and started a text.
"I will let the parents of your friends from school know, seeing that they are already at a bigger risk as it is," Steve said.
Skye sighed and texted Tucker to let him know. "Done."
"You have plans this week?" Fury asked.
"I have something planned, but it involves a friend, and I don't want to put him at risk," Skye said.
"Do you not think you could protect yourself and him if it came to it?" Nat asked.
"I guess I didn't think about it. But yeah, I probably could," Skye said.
"You have been training for almost two years. And you have been begging to put those abilities to the test in the world. It's time," Nat said.
"Yes, but I didn't think it would put people who aren't trained to protect themselves at risk," Skye said.
"The general public will always be at risk when the villains plan to attack. Part of being an Avenger is defending them. You know this," Tony said.
"You're right, I do. I'm sorry. I'm just wrapping my head around it," Skye said. "I would like to point out that if it is the variant we think it is, someone else might be at risk."
"It would be a lot harder for her to get to Loki where he is," Tony said.
"But it is something I am keeping an eye on," Thor said.
"She couldn't hurt me if she tried," Loki mumbled.
Skye rolled her eyes. "So, I will find excuses to be out more this week. Will that be with or without a chaperone?"
Steve took a breath. "You will be driven into town like you normally would, and whoever will be around. But no, you won't be under constant supervision. But if something happens you call as soon as you can."
Skye nodded.
"Wear your suit under whatever you are wearing so if something happens you have it," Steve said.
Skye nodded. "I can do that."
The meeting soon ended, and Skye went to her room and sat in her window seat hugging her knees. There was a knock on her door.
"Yeah?" Skye said.
Steve went in. "What are you thinking?"
"That you're annoyed with me," Skye said.
Steve's expression changed to confusion. "I'm not annoyed with you."
"It feels like you are," Skye said.
Steve sat on the other end of the window seat. "I promise you I'm not. But can you tell me why you think that?"
"I can read your emotions, and you barely said anything in that meeting," Skye said.
"Okay. I'm annoyed, but not at you," Steve said. "I'm annoyed with the situation. But it's not your fault. And in that meeting, I too was dealing with wrapping my head around this situation and again there possibly being a risk to your safety."
"If it's the Skye from that universe, yes it is my fault," Skye said.
"Maybe you opened up that universe to ours in a way by going there, but you didn't go there to hurt anyone. You wanted answers, and you're the one who got hurt in the process. If she came here, that was her choice. And if it's not that variant, it is the choice of whichever variant to come here. You are not responsible for the actions of anybody else."
Skye nodded. "And you're not going to be upset with me for going out there and essentially making myself a target?"
"As I said, I don't like it has come to this. But you have had a target on your back since the world found out about you because you are my daughter. And I have kept you locked and under guard pretty much the entire time. You are growing up. You have been trained and prepared so you can live your life as normally as possible and be able to protect yourself if you have to. I will never stop doing everything I can to keep you safe, but it's time for me to let go a little," Steve said. "And no, I am not going to be upset with you for living your life. Just please be sure you are being careful."
"I promise I will be extra careful," Skye said.
Steve opened his arms, and Skye moved over to and hugged him. Steve wrapped his arms around her tightly. "I trust you, Skyler."
Skye's eyes started to fill with tears. "You have no idea how much it means to me to hear you say that."
"Oh?" Steve asked.
Skye broke the hug and looked at him. "I think you are only the second adult to ever tell me they trust me."
"I've never told you that before?" Steve asked
Skye shook her head. "You have done things that showed me you trust me to a degree. But you've never said it, and the fact that you are trusting me with this means a lot."
"I'm sorry I've never told you before. And it's not hard to trust you. You have shown me I can," Steve said.
Skye smiled and nodded.
"You're feeling better?" he asked.
"Yes, thank you," Skye said.
"You know you can always talk to me about these things," Steve said.
"I know," Skye said.
"Good," Steve said.
There was a little knock on Skye's door.
Skye smiled. "Yes, Morgan, you can come in."
Morgan came in. "Mommy and I are making cookies, do you want to help?"
"Sure," Skye said before looking at her dad.
"We are done. You can go," Steve said.
Skye got up and went with Morgan to the kitchen where she, Morgan, and Pepper made some chocolate chip cookies.
