12/25/2656- Union Announces Naval Reorganization

"Today, the Union announced a major reorganization of its naval forces. Replacing the fleet system used by the Union in recent decades, its naval forces are now to be divided between a number of operational zones, each administered by a single Fleet Admiral. Under these zones, ships will be divided into semi-independent squadrons, each with integrated logistics and command structures. These squadrons, each with individual roles, will ease the transfer of forces between operational zones compared to the original fleet system, which, while providing a solid base for peacetime patrols and large scale operations, is far too top heavy to easily deal with changes in resource needs. The first changes are not expected to take effect for some time, with a complete reorganization expected to take months."
