Sorry it took me so long to get this one out on Fanfiction, the Website has been a bit screwed up for me for the last week.
Star never thought she would be this nervous by seeing her home... Of course, it has been over a year now and she was almost an adult now. What has changed in a year... would anyone even recognize her now?
She wasn't oblivious. She was now far bigger than her father, and likely even larger than her mother. And stronger...
The memory of running Nilas straight through a tree making her flinch.
But yet... here she was, flying over the ocean. The sight of her island home far off in the distance, her father flying next to her quietly. She could actually spot the spec sized dragons flying around the volcanos that built up her home.
"Are you excited?" Her father asked her, not sounding too excited himself.
Star shook her head, "I'm not sure..."
Her father didn't respond to that, likely feeling the same. The more that she hung out with her father, the more she realized that her father felt the same about her mother.
They flew on and soon they were gently gliding over the volcanoes, the warm air helping them stay flying without having to flap their wings at all.
They glided down to land on the main volcano platform. This platform made up the entrance to the palace, guards immediately coming up to greet them, "King Blackstone, it's good to see you back sir," the guard greeted, turning his head to look at Star, "Who is the other dragon sir?" the guard asked, lightly backing up in fear from how big she was.
"That would be my daughter and your Princess," her father said with a snicker as he started walking into the palace, Star snickering as well as the guard cursed under his breath, "Three moons... damn she grew huge," the guard muttered.
Another guard ran up to her father, "Sir, should I inform the queen of your arrival?"
Blackstone shook his head, "I am on my way there now," he said as he continued inside, the guard nodding his head and walking away.
They were making their way down the halls, her presence capturing every dragon's attention as she passed by them, her size filling the hall and making some dragons even have to move out of her way. She heard quiet muttering as she passed through them, "Who is that..." "Never seen her before..." "I think that's princess Star!"
They finally made it to the throne room door, guards standing bye. Her father turned to look at her, "Wait here, I will tell your mom that we are home," her father said as he opened the door and walked in.
Star quietly nodded her head and sat down, watching her father walk into the room and close the door behind him. Her nerves growing as the silence grew after he left. She noticed the guard on the right side of the door staring at her in what looked like surprise.
"Is... something wrong?" Star asked, hoping she didn't do anything wrong. The guard seemed to stiffen up, rapidly staring away from her, "No Princess Star," the guard said, shaking his head, "It's just that... none of us ever thought you would get very big."
Star gave him a smile, "It's fine, I am going to take it as a compliment," she said kindly, making him relax a little bit, "I never thought I would get this big either..."
She rapidly stiffened back up when the door opened, her father sticking his head out, "Come on Star."
Star held back a shiver from the thought of seeing her mother, but she nodded her head as she stood up and walked through the door that her father was holding open.
She walked through and saw her mother on the throne. Her mother seemingly frozen in place as she saw her daughter.
Star started walking forwards and her mother's eyes grew as she did so. Star walked up in front of her mother, "Hello... mother." Star greeted.
Her mom seemed to back up in the throne a bit, "Star..."
Why was she acting so weird?
Star jumped as the door to the throne room was slammed open, an angry looking NightWing running inside, "I heard that...!" the dragon froze as she saw Star turn around to look at her.
A smirk slowly started to form on Star's face as she realized what was going on now with her mother, recognizing it as she now saw the same look on Nighthawk's face.
Fear.
She almost felt bad for making them feel how they are... almost.
After years of abuse from her sisters, and ignorance from her mother, it was a long time coming. She shouldn't feel like this, but they did it to their selves for never respecting her. After years of never getting any respect at all, she was going to relish it.
Nighthawk seemed to straighten up after a couple moment, along with their mother, "Star, it's good to see you home!" her mother said, sounding strained, "You have grown..." she muttered out loud, then said something under her breath that Star just barely caught, "And stronger..."
"Rigel..." her father said, trying to get his wife's attention.
Rigel bolted her head to look at her king, "That's Queen Rigel to you!"
Her father said something she was never expecting from him, "Sure..."
Her mother hissed in anger from how he casually brushed her anger off, she stood up from the throne and started walking towards her father. Star narrowed her eyes and cut her mother off from her father, both of them now realizing how much Star had actually grown.
Star towered over her mother... and it wasn't even close.
Her mother didn't waver this time, staring her dead in the eyes...
She seemed to magically calm down, a light smile on her face. "Star, I would love to test out how strong you have become in the last year!" she said way to happily, "You and Nighthawk will spar this afternoon!"
Star saw out of the corner of her eyes that Nighthawk went to protest but was cut off by her mother, "That is an order, now can both of you please leave me so I can talk to Nighthawk about manners..." her mother hissed, leveling her glare at her eldest daughter.
Nighthawk seemed to deflate at the stare.
Star didn't want to, but she nodded her head along with her father. Both of them leaving the room and walking back down the halls. The moment they were out of earshot from any other dragons, her father grabbed her and made her stop. "Be careful..." he whispered, sounding... nervous, "Something isn't right."
Star nodded her head, "What's wrong?" mom wouldn't do anything to her... right? She would never.
Her father shook his head, "I don't know what it is, but your mom is planning something, and I don't like it..." he said as he stood up and started to walk back down the halls, leaving Star there in worry.
She stood there for a little bit, receiving looks and weird glances from every dragon that walked bye. Star had guessed that it would never be the same again when she made it home... but this?
She started walking down the halls as well, making it too her old bedroom door and opening it up. It was like going back in time. Her room being exactly like she had left it... absolutely trashed from her fight with Nighthawk and Nightjar before she left for the mainland with her father.
She sighed as she walked inside, picking up half of the splintered desk and leaning it against the wall. Star started wondering if she could talk a servant into cleaning the room for her, she was definitely in no mood for it.
She sighed once again. No, she needed to do something to get her mind off of... well, whatever was going on right now with her mom and Nighthawk.
She picked up the other half of the desk and started to get to work, cleaning up her dusty and trashed bedroom.
It took her a while, but she finally got it cleaned up and organized, a slight content look on her face. Liking how much better her room looked than before. Star looked over at her bed and groaned. She would never fit in her old bed...
She slowly looked out her window and saw the sun starting to set...
It was almost time anyways...
Why the fighting? Why did she always have to fight with her sisters? None of them have ever treated her with any kindness whatsoever, and WHY!?
A knock came to her door, she walked over and opened it too see her father on the other side of the door, giving her a concerned look.
"Already?" Star asked, hoping it really wasn't. But the sun didn't lie.
He nodded his head, "Remember what I told you..." he said concerned for her well-being, letting her out the door with a whisper.
She nodded her head again, "Where do they want me and her to spar at?" Star asked, trying to not sound too worried about the spar.
"The court yard," Her father answered short and simply.
Star hissed, "Seriously!" Mother obviously wanted to make a spectacle out of this spar, did she want everyone to see how dysfunctional this family actually was!
"Dad..." she said as they walked, getting his attention, he turned and gave her a light nod, "Do you remember the question I asked you years ago while you were working on your plans for the mainland?"
He looked confused and shook his head, "I don't think so..."
Star bowed her head down, "Why does mom not love me?" she whispered out once again.
Unlike last time, he never hesitated giving his answer, "I don't know..."
She flinched at that.
Her father started speaking again as they continued to walk, "Believe it or not, but at one point... we were both in love with one another years ago." her father said with a smile, remembering his younger years, "When she became queen, we were so excited to have dragonets," a frown then came to his face, "I don't know what it was after that though... it seemed throughout the years... she turned bitter, conniving even..."
Star couldn't even imagine her mother being loving... ever. Not now.
It didn't take them long to reach the courtyard, a crowd of NightWings outside, murmuring loudly. The silenced their selves when they saw the King and Princess walk outside into the courtyard.
Star spotted her sisters pretty quickly, Nightjar and Whipper will had both grown into adults, but what made her curious was the look on their faces. What was usually filled with anger was filled with... a pleading look on their faces.
Except for Nighthawk anyways, she stood dead center in the courtyard with an angry look on her face, her eyes staring holes into her chest.
Her father saw that his eldest was already in the center of the yard, so he walked away.
Star glared back at Nighthawk, not deterred. Not this time.
She was a runt no longer, she would not take the beatings anymore.
Her mother's voice broke the silence in the yard, she was in the front of the crowd with a calm look, "As all of you know, my husband and daughter have returned from their mission last year," the Queen started up, "And, I have requested that she be tested to see how strong she has grown along with her size since she grew so much," she seemed to say that part with a hiss, "She will be sparring with my eldest daughter, Nighthawk, for this test."
The Queen nodded her head after that, finished, "Challengers... when you are ready."
Star's eyes grew the moment those words came out of her mouth, Nighthawk already half way across the courtyard from a large jump powered via her large black wings, aiming straight for her throat.
Star dove out of the way, roaring as she did so, "What the hell!" she said as she turned around to stare down her older sister, "Are you trying to kill me!"
Nighthawk roared back and dove again, aiming for the same spot on her body.
Star didn't dodge this time, she rapidly spun around and slapped Nighthawk across the face with her tail with a loud crack, throwing Nighthawk across the yard and making her hit the ground hard.
"Nighthawk, me and you both know you can't win this fight..." Star whispered, hoping only her sister could hear it.
Nighthawk shook her head then gave her a glare, standing up as quick as she could, "I will kill you!" she roared with a crazed look in her eyes.
Star almost stumbled at that, not liking what she just heard, "What, this is just supposed to be a skirmish, not a fight to the death!" Star objected, looking over to her mother who was now arguing with her father with a smirk on her face.
No
She wanted her to die here, she knew she wasn't a runt, she knew she was a good fighter... Rigel wanted her own daughter to die.
Star turned around, giving a pleading look to her sister, "Nighthawk, please," She said with a begging tone to her voice, "You don't have to do this!" Nighthawk's eyes seemed to harden as she ran towards Star.
"SHUT UP AND DIE!" Nighthawk roared as she ran at her.
She went to jump at Star again, but this time Star had no choice, she grabbed her older sister by the throat mid jump, making her choke from the tight grip.
"This is my final WARNING!" Star roared as she slammed Nighthawk into the ground, making the older dragon roar in pain.
Star's eyes shot over to her mother's disapproving face, almost making her turn the fight on her mother.
Star's head shot back to her older sister who started whispering somethign.
"Do it..." Nighthawk muttered.
Star almost let go in shock, "What?"
"Do it... kill me... or she will kill them," Nighthawk whispered again with a sad tone, looking over to the other two sisters who were now crying.
Star shook her head again, "What are you talking about?!" she said, now getting off her older sister.
A faint smile came over Nighthawk, a tear now running down her face, "I am sorry... for everything."
Nighthawk bolted up, roaring as she did so. Her maw wide open and aimed at her throat.
"STAR!" Her father roared in fear.
Star rapidly shot her talons forward, penetrating her older sister straight through her exposed throat, blood splattering all across the ground.
"Pro... protect them..." Nighthawk gurgled out with a faint smile, blood pouring out of her maw. She hit the ground... dead. Star almost collapsed but held fast when her mother started speaking again, "It seems Star won, guess she was the stronger daughter..."
She won...
SHE WON...!
The words rang through her head like a gong. Star roared in rage, "You have no right to call me the winner!" Star roared when she turned to look at her mother who still had a faint smile on her face. LIKE SHE WANTED HER DAUGHTERS TO DIE.
The words from Nighthawk pounded in her head.
Protect them... she is going to kill them...
"You just sent one of your own daughters to DIE!" Star roared in fury, as she stared down the now hissing Queen.
"HOW DARE YOU TALK TO ME LIKE THAT STAR!" Rigel roared back, now standing up.
"NO!" Star roared, "You have no right to call me by my name, or your daughter!" Star roared, her wings starting to spread as she talked, making her already large form look massive now.
"You and everyone else will call me..." Star hesitated, thinking.
"Battlewinner"
Everyone started murmuring at that, having watched the battle and family spectacle going on with shock.
The Queen scoffed in amusement, "You have only one battle ever in your life..." the queen said with a smile coming onto her face, "But sure... I will amuse you... Battlewinner."
