It was shortly after the entrance exams and everyone were currently on a helicopter flying to Academy Island.
"Attention new Duel Academy students, if you look outside your windows, you'll see your new home away from home," the helicopter pilot announced in a monotonous tone as he was still piloting a large helicopter meant for transporting the new students towards Duel Academy as everyone looked through the windows excited, "Now, now. I know you're excited, but don't shove. Quite a sight, eh? Now, fasten your seatbelts and send your seats back to a right position. We're going up to land. Next up, Academy Island."
Shortly after landing all the new students were told to gather in the main auditorium for some important announcements about the coming few years. Thy arrived as thy waited before the screen right in the middle of the auditorium had a little bit of a static problem, but was quickly overwhelmed a few seconds later when the new Chancellor's screen appeared.
"Welcome students to Duel Academy. I am the new Chancellor of this Academy, Leo Akaba, but please refer to me as the Professor. Here you will be expected that you will be the best Duelists of your generation, and under the grueling training, you will learn how to be just that. Alongside keeping your studies in mind, where even if academics aren't your expertise I would remind you all this is a school, and you need your education in mind. I look forward to see the type of duelists you all will become. Get settled into your assigned dorms however you wish, and depending on your rank is how much I depend on you. Good luck, and have a good year."
Hearing that Yuri smirked. "Well then Sora, hopefully you're not in the lowest rank."
"Ah come on Yuri, you know I am pretty powerful in my own right." Sora winked over with a grin. "And your probably the high end rank too."
"Of course." he replied as they lined up only to pause. "You're... Jaden Yuki right?"
Hearing that Jaden turned over. "Yeah that's me. You were with Syrus, and Bastion at the Entrance Exams right?"
"Technically, though I was actually with my roommate Sora Perse." Yuri smirked. "I saw your duel and I have to admit you were rather impressive... I would say... possibly the third best student who passed this year. Well, third or fourth though I'd need to see you and Sora duel each other before deciding that."
"Whoa you really put yourself high. Your also looking to be King of Games?" Jaden grinned over towards him.
"Of course, I'm sure everyone here has that same goal in mind." Yuri smirked as his eyes briefly turned into vertical slits.
Jaden blinked before he grinned over. "Well alright I'll be your huckleberry if we duel each other!" He offered a hand over. "But no make mistake, I don't intend on going easy on you without a good excuse!"
Yuri smirked taking Jaden's hand in a firm grip as they reached the blazers. They reached over where Jaden, and Yuri were handed Ra Blazer which confuses Yuri but Jaden likes red on him.
"Yellow, I was under the impression that Blue was the highest rank." Yuri noted.
"Well despite your impressive Duel Skills you didn't went to a Prep School so you didn't meet the qualifications to be in Obelisk Blue." the guy giving out the blazers explained over.
Yuri frowned at that but took it walking off only to notice all the girls were getting blue. "I know not all of those girls went to prep schools."
"Well unfortunately Obelisk Blue is the only Rank with a form Girls can have that is appropriate." the guy explained over again.
"How are we doing?" Barrett himself walked behind the guy with the Blazer to check to see how the Blazer distribution is going out.
"It's going well so far sir." the man answered. "No issues so far."
"And I'm pretty sure you have been informed of something the Professor given to you before you went to your task that Prep School Preparations are no longer qualified requirements to be in a certain rank?" Barrett questioned over to be on track.
"No, I wasn't informed of that... I was simply following the instructions Dr. Crowler gave me." the man mentioned looking down only to pause and look at Yuri and Jaden. "Oh, pardon me you two please come back."
"Wait sir we weren't informed about it." one other teacher argued over. "No-one told us, and Chancellor Akaba didn't tell us about this at the meeting."
Barrett narrowed his eye over. "You best well refer to him as the Professor." That made the other man shrink nervously. "And he has informed you two along with the others several times about this rule, and you just forgot?"
The two looked at each other nervously thinking back.
Flashback (Yesterday)...
"What is all of this?"
The Professor himself was looking at the reports over the decided dorms for the applicants, and needless to say he is appalled with Dr. Crowler the one who presented the papers over to him. Dr. Crowler in a salty mood from being defeated by Jaden even when using his own personal Deck made Jaden a Slifer Red on purpose, and listed that some male students despite having lots of potential being lower ranked either case they didn't have it with them as bad Dueling Skills for now, or that they already did but did bad on the practical exams or even more even if they have qualifications to be in Obelisks are rejected that rank cause of the Prep School requirement. And the elite Obelisk Blues that were qualified went that went to Prep Schools where they aced Academically, but are really poor Duelists but still are Obelisks which can't be right for him.
"Those are the decided dorms for the applicants Chanc-Professor." Dr. Crowler corrected himself over looking proud of his decisions either oblivious, or not caring of his high minded deduction for the new applicants. "I'm sure within time they will be better placed, but trust me we only need to care about those not at the bottom since we can't depend on them."
"This is all nonsense." Rather then being satisfied the Professor looked downright disgusted.
"What?" Dr. Crowler asked in shock. "Professor I assure you this makes perfect sense. Look here, Bastion Misawa... top score on the written exam and a very talented duelist as well... the pinnacle of Ra Yellow and that little extra motivation to move up to Obelisk Blue will make him an even greater student."
"Yes I can see that. But what about this Sora Perse? Even if he gotten a medium score his skills in dueling are excelling magnificent, and he's listed as a Slifer?" the Professor questioned over. "Or this Taron Keith while despite being well off in Academics is really poor in Dueling is placed in Obelisk Blue? And let's not forget most of these students within Ra Yellow aren't in Obelisk due to not being in Prep Schools as a needed requirement? Or even this Jaden Yuki-" Dr. Crowler gave a disgusted cringe from that. "-where despite his struggle is a passionate duelist despite his barely passible score. I see him as Ra Yellow more then Slifer Red. And don't get me started about the Girls (seriously only one dorm?) also not being giving fair treatment." He glared over towards the good doctor. "From the way I look at it, you seem to value students more on Academics then Dueling Prowess."
"That's..." Dr. Crowler shuddered hearing that. "Well I can look into making some adjustments but... some of them are appropriate. Despite his dueling talents Jaden Yuki was late to the entrance exam... he's extremely undisciplined... and in regards to our female students, I agree but we only have one female dorm on the island and we need to respect their privacy."
"I fail to see any reason why Jaden being late is any reason to automatically place him lower." the Professor stated over. "As for the female students it's not just the dorm that concerns me." He turned over towards Barrett. "Barrett you were there for the whole time Crowler was in charge of the Exams?"
"I was professor." he nodded.
"Then I trust you to redo all of this by tomorrow, and set up new rules I will do. I clearly misplaced my trust to someone who doesn't know how to evaluate fairly." the Professor instructed him over which shocked Dr. Crowler from what he just said.
"What!? B-But sir-"
"What kind of school is this Crowler?" the Professor asked him a question. "Answer me that simple question what kind of school is Duel Academy?"
"It's... the greatest duel monsters institution in the world... built by Seto Kaiba himself." Dr. Crowler answered. "To train the next generation of duelists and potentially find the next King of Games."
"And how will the students be able to achieve that?"
"By studying hard, taking what we teach them to heart, and dueling each other to grow and improve their abilities." Dr. Crowler answered.
"Your only half-right." the Professor stated over with crossed arms. "Let me rephrase the question then; what is Duel Academy's main subject to one day reach the King of Games title?"
"Profesor?" Dr. Crowler asked hearing that only to close his eyes. "The main subject is dueling of course."
"Exactly." the Professor nodded over pleased that he's able to figure out this out. "Duel Academy is a school of DUELING. Academics are only second-nature. While Grades, and Education of the students are important to decide the future of the students, they have no place in Dueling as they have no influence on it whatsoever. Ra Yellow is among the most fair of the Dorm Selections but the rest is bigotry. From what I seen, the most potential, and skilled are in Slifer cause of there low Academics, and Obelisk is the most pathetic as they went to Prep Schools that are just as snobbish, and weak minded as they are. If Duel Academy is a school for Dueling then let the skills, and dueling expertise of the students decide there rank."
He then stood up telling his secretary to take notes. "So for now on to enter Obelisk Blue is that entering a Prep School is no longer a requirement. Anyone can be one if they prove themselves over. And that Academics are no longer the main subject to account on the Dorms. If their dueling skills are bad place them in Slifer to improve better, if there remarkable place them within Ra Yellow, and if there the best then there placed in Obelisk. Academics are second-nature only, let the skills, and experience of the students decide the Ranks of the applicants."
Dr. Crowler looked stunned. "That... I understand... though we still only have one suitable dorm for female students... and, given your criteria not all of them qualify for Obelisk Blue status."
"I understand that Crowler. But that's why that will change as soon as possible. But again it isn't just that, and the single dorm that concerns me." the Professor stated over towards him. "Who in there right mind designed the female uniforms, there too revealing if you are held true of them minding there own privacy."
"I'll... look into that immediately Professor." Dr. Crowler nodded leaving the room.
They watch him leave before the Professor takes a breath, and turned to Barrett. "Barrett?" Said man turned over to him. "Inform me if Crowler does anything else unacceptable. I would've hanged his career but Sheppard told me that despite his quirks, he's a successful teacher, and needed asset for Duel Academy. At the very least I'll demote him down but only if he crosses anymore lines. Until then have the Dueling Experiences of the Students kept in mind."
"Agreed, and while I don't approve of his personality he's clearly a talented duelist in his own right." Barrett agreed.
End Flashback...
Which is where we are from Barrett staring down at the two nervous Blazer distributors who just ignored what the Professor ordered over still on the bigotry ideals that Dr. Crowler imposed over.
"You two are lucky, I don't report this over to the Professor for disobeying him seeing as it was Crowler's actions from years of being unable to clean up his act. But don't expect another chance if you screw this up again, are we clear?" Barrett warned the two.
"Sir." the two of them nodded nervously.
Meanwhile Yuri was walking over to Sora.
"Whoa really Yellow?" Sora was kinda surprised from seeing Yuri's yellow Blazer. "Kinda expected you to be in Obelisk."
"You can't start at the top, you need to prove you deserve that title." Yuri shrugged only to smirk. "I'll just prove my superiority over everyone else here."
Sora grinned back from that offering his hand. "Well may the best man win in the future."
Yuri smirked taking his hand. "Oh, I have every intention of doing so."
"Well you both can congratulate me on being the next King of Games." Jaden grinned putting his hand on top of theirs.
They looked over seeing Jaden still has the Slifer Red Blazer despite the renewal of the Blazers to everyone.
"Wait, why are you in Slifer?" Sora asked. "You should be in Ra like us."
"Oh is that what those guys we're talking about?" Jaden blinked rubbing his head turning back over. "Sorry kinda stopped paying attention."
Yuri rolled his eyes only to notice Celina in Blue. "Oh? Well that's interesting."
Confused Sora looked over seeing that. "Well Cece, does have great skills so I don't doubt she's in Obelisk."
"Cece?" Yuri inquired. "You've spoken with her?"
"That's what I decide to call her for short." Sora explained.
Yuri rolled his eyes before walking over to her as Jaden blinked.
"So, what now Sora?" he asked grinning.
"Well I figure we just take a look around is my best bet." Sora admitted over to him. "Check to see all over around here to see what kind of school this is."
"Makes sense to me, should we invite Bastion and Syrus to look around with us?" he asked.
"I don't see why not. I would ask Yuri too but... sometimes he's difficult to read." Sora admitted over shrugging. "So let's head off once they get there Blazers."
Jaden nodded grinning at that.
"Celina correct?" Yuri asked walking over to her.
Hearing him the girl blinked turning over. "Yeah that's me. And who are you?"
"Yuri, I happened to see your duel at the entrance exam. Very impressive." he complimented.
"Well thank you but even though I used my hand, I had more in hand." Celina told him over before shaking her head. "But honestly even if it was a Test Deck, it was super easy to get in here."
"You're not wrong." Yuri agreed before smirking. "Well, what do you say to a match?"
"Your challenging me already before we get settled in?" Celina blinked surprised from this.
"Would you want to wait to have a match with one of the most talented duelists from the exams?" Yuri inquired with a smirk that looked obnoxious but if you knew him it was only playful. "You might not be at my level but you're incredibly close... you might even get me to try."
Hearing this Celina looked offended over. "So you think I'm beneath you?" She then smirked over. "Alright then I'll take you on."
Yuri grinned at that. "Then by all means prove me wrong."
"Whoa, are you flirting Yuri?" Sora asked walking over getting their attention.
Celina blinked looking over seeing Sora along with Jaden (who got his Blazer renewed to Ra Yellow) with Bastion, and Syrus who both gotten Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red respectfully walking over towards them.
"Friends of yours?" Celina asked Yuri.
"Something like that." he frowned glaring at Sora.
"What, you never grin so much talking to anybody... let alone a girl." Sora teased.
"Ah you should've told us you were close with her!" Jaden chuckled taking Sora's teasing seriously. "We would've invited her with us!"
"Excuse me!?" Celina looked shocked from what he just said, "You think me, and him are dating!?"
"Well no but you two are close aren't you?"
"NO we're not!" Celina yelled out in annoyance. "He only challenge me to a duel cause he thinks I'm beneath him simple as that!"
"Yuri thinks everyone is beneath him." Sora pointed out. "If he challenged you though, you caught his eye."
"Sora, stop talking before I feed you to my plants." Yuri glared at him before turning to Celina. "Though, he is correct I was impressed and would enjoy seeing your skills firsthand."
"Well alright, I'll take your challenge no matter the reason." Celina said over to him determined. "I won't go easy."
Yuri couldn't hide his smirk. "Well then, shall we..."
"What are you guys doing?" questioned a female voice. "You'll all be late for the welcome dinners."
Hearing that they looked seeing Alexis along with Grace, and Gloria along with two other girls one with red hair, and the other with black hair walking over to them.
"Oh yeah... we'll duel later then." Celina told Yuri as he smirked.
"Then it's a date you two?" Sora teased.
They both glared over before a hand takes both there shoulders. "Now now no need for hostilities." It was Dennis that was there wearing a Slifer Red Blazer himself. "We're suppose to be settled in, and be on time for the Welcome Dinner. After all we need to make sure we're energized before dueling!"
Rolling his eyes Yuri nodded as they all split up to head to their own dorms.
While they spilt they didn't notice Chazz who had gotten a Obelisk Blue Blazer glaring over while his two 'friends' complained over Slifer Red Blazers.
At the Slifer Red Dorm...
Syrus, and Dennis who is with him arrived at the Slifer Red Dorms which looks... pretty bland to say the least.
"This is our dorm?" Syrus asked frowning. "It looks like it might fall into the ocean."
"Well at the vest least it's cozy." Dennis shrugged over. "Now let's see... our room is assigned 45." They walked together entering the room which isn't a SMALL room, it's that the triple bunk bed, and a desk takes some space, and a bathroom was there. But it's also dark from the window being closed.
"Why is it so dark, someone let some light in!" Dennis frowned opening the curtains.
"Hey, those were closed for a reason!" an angry voice snapped.
Syrus and Dennis turned only for Syrus to scream in terror. "Giant Koala!"
"Would you stop screaming!?" Syrus wasn't wrong as the boy at the top bunk that was napping having been interrupted does look like a Koala with a white blazer with red accents which signifies a Senior Slifer Red Blazer. "And what are you two doing in my room?"
"We're your new roommates, it's a pleasure to meet you." Dennis smiled offering the boy a hand. "My name's Dennis McField."
The boy didn't accept the handshake moving back in bed over laying down. "You both are new here alright so I'll tell you how the system here works."
"The system?"
"Yeah, basically the ranks, and what they mean around here. There the most important part here." the boy responded over to Syrus' question. "You got three different kinds of students. Obelisk Blue Students, Ra Yellow Students, and Slifer Red Students. The Blues are the highest rank cause of there grades but others through connections. Yellow on the otherhand is where the potential laden students are at where they have the ability to do anything if they try. Then there's us the Red Wonders."
"Red Wonders?" Dennis blinked over.
"It means 'I wonder how flunkies like us ever got this far'." the boy stated over bluntly. "Sorry, but we're at the bottom of the food chain as Dueling Duds. Oh, I'm Chumley Huffington by the way."
"Well Chumley, if we are at the bottom we can only go up from here." Dennis grinned. "Are you coming to the welcome dinner?"
"Expect me later." Chumley stated over. "Got some more napping to do."
"Ig you say so, come on Syrus." Dennis smiled.
Syrus nodded walking with him.
At the Mess Hall they were greeted to a LOT of complaining.
"I shouldn't be living with these losers!"
"I'm an elite not a Slifer Slacker!"
"We are here for a reason to be elite!"
"Why did the Chancellor made such a stupid decision!?"
Well these are probably the 'elite' Obelisks that did very poorly at the Entrance Exam's Dueling Course, and from how the system changed following the Professor deciding to enforce Duel Academy as a school for dueling MANY of those Obelisks gotten a change over where instead of Obelisk Blue they are Slifer Red which made them really salty.
"Whew a tough crowd." Dennis admitted over as he noticed the Slifers that aren't with the transferred 'elites' were eating alone to not interact with them as there not from the same status as they were more just ignoring them having better things to do then listen to there complaining while some grinned as there being given a taste of there own medicine.
"Children!"
Hearing that they looked over seeing a black haired glasses man walking in. "Oh my, I didn't know we get so many Slifers." From the sound of it, he wasn't expecting the change of system resulted in so many poor Duelists. Well it's his job to correct that.
"Huh, there's a white dorm?" Dennis asked seeing the man's white shirt. "How do you get into that one?"
"Hm?" Banner looked down before realizing what he means. "Oh no, this is what I normally wear. I'm the Dorm Master of the Slifer Dorm, Lyman Banner."
"Oh, well it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Dennis grinned giving a small bow. "I hope to learn quite a bit from you professor Banner."
"It be my pleasure. Now please take a seat so we can get started." Banner smiled over.
Dennis grinned sitting next to Syrus.
"Alright children!" All in all the complaining slowly died down while Chumley walked in only to blink when he sees the large crowd but sat beside Syrus. "Well first off, welcome to Duel Academy here in the Slifer Red Dorm. I am the Dorm Master, Lyman Banner." He then pointed to a beam above his head. "And this is Pharaoh."
Looking up they seen what he means was a plumb brown tabby cat who gave a lazy meow.
"And for those of you that don't really know recently the system over the three dorms were changed for a first." Banner instructed over which surprised some Slifers including Chumley who didn't hear about this. "So now many of people in this room with us, are in fact once students considers for the Obelisk Rank but once the Professor gave the decision to prioritize dueling rather then Academics to decide the rankings re-evaluated with Barrett, they were instead changed to Slifers."
"So... that means we really are the lowest of the low." Syrus frowned hearing that as he looked down in defeat.
"But come now it doesn't mean it's the end of the world." Banner perked up which got Syrus' attention along with some others. "Sure some of your Dueling abilities are much to be desired but I'd assure you that it doesn't mean your really hopeless. The fact that you all manage to enter Duel Academy after winning your Entrance Exams means you all have a chance to be great duelists. The Professor also believes the same thing for you all as he sees that even bottom feeders like us can become elites if we try hard enough." Some former Obelisks scoffed at this. "So don't take this personally this is your chance to grow, and be better Duelists. In time, you all will be great duelists, I can see it in my eyes."
"See Syrus, we might not be at the top now but we can get there with hard work." Dennis grinned.
At the same time with the Ra Yellow students...
"Oh we're roommates again. Was that fate?" Sora chuckled over to Yuri seeing there assigned to the same room as before.
Yuri sighed. "Maybe. Then again at least you know not to bother me when I'm focusing on something."
"Or someone?" Sora teased causing Yuri to glare at him. "Oh come on, I can never tease you."
"Well we're right beside each other if you need anything." Jaden admitted that he, and Bastion are also roommates. "Of course you don't mind any company right Bastion?"
"Not at all, though I hope you don't mind... I tend to write down my thoughts and formulas for a duel." Bastion mentioned showing his copy of Vorse Raider with math written all over the card.
"You wrote math on your cards?" Sora blinked owlishly seeing it.
"Formulas and equations yes." Bastion nodded putting his card away. "Still, we should head to the welcome dinner."
They nodded heading down where they find Lobster, Shrimp Scamp, Roasted Duck, Oyster Dressing, Lobster Tail Curry, basically everything seafood themed that's decitave. But Sora sees Cod Cakes, and Lobster Pie which while isn't like the sweets he eats he has himself.
"Whoa they have a lot of seafood!" Jaden said in awe seeing it.
"Yes, and it smells wonderful." Bastion smiled.
They all sat down just in time to hear a bell ringing to get everyone's attention.
"Huh, what's with the bell?" Jaden inquired already having a mouthful of food.
A elder black haired man having two pointed mustaches wearing a large Ra Yellow Blazer was there as he smiled to everyone. "Welcome new youngens to the Ra Yellow Dorm. I am the headmaster of the Ra Yellow Dormitory, Professor Sartyr. I teach over card design, and welcome to cooking classes should you all wish to try learning these skills when you want to help anyone other in a duel."
"That could be useful." Yuri noted thoughtfully before grinning. "I wonder if there's room for a small garden."
"Now I'm sure some of you are very confused that most of you were gonna be Slifers." Sartyr smiled over towards them. "A new change in the system by the Professor where Dueling is the only factor which decides your rank here rather then Academics. After all if Duel Academy is a school for Dueling, why not have you whippersnappers show us what you can do?"
"Makes sense to me." Sora grinned. "It sounds fun."
"So with that." Sartyr finished the speech he was saying. "I wish you all luck despite what the former Obelisk Blues have been telling you. Teach those whippersnappers that you do have the potential to be great duelists."
Everyone in the dorm cheered at that... except Jaden who was stuffing his face.
Meanwhile at the same time at the Obelisk Blue Girl's Dorm...
"Well looks like you got grouped with those two Amazons." the red haired girl named Jasmine admitted over to Celina who was roommates with Gloria, and Grace.
"Amazons?" Celina inquired looking at Grace and Gloria. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well we're pretty strong for girls, and I personally like any guy." Grace chuckled over.
Gloria rolled her eyes. "Yeah pretty sure. We just use Amazon Decks."
"Oh, fair enough." Celina nodded before frowning.
"Well it's about time for the welcome dinner." Alexis shrugged over gesturing them to follow her.
Celina nodded only to pause. "Hold on a second, I'll be right there."
"Is everything alright?" Gloria inquired hearing that.
"Yeah, just need a second." Celina mentioned as Gloria shrugged and they walked off as she took out her PDA. "Now... where is he... there!"
Staring at Yuri's smirking face she frowned.
"After welcome dinners, meet at the main stadium... you owe me a duel."
With the message sent she followed her dorm mates. Arriving down she sat down while a woman walked. "Everyone may I please have your attention?"
Hearing that they all turned to her.
She has brown hair with a zigzag bang at the front wearing a large version of her blazer that's unbuttoned showing a pink shirt that's sleeveless, and shoulder strapless that exposes a bit of her cleverage with blue cuffs at the ends of her sleeves, a long blue skirt while having on earrings that has a blue gem, and a smaller white gem below it, and blue shoes.
"Greetings everyone, I'm the Dorm Master for the Girl's Dorm. Fonda Fontaine. I'm also the School Nurse so if you need anything just visit me in either my office, or here." Fonda smiled over. "Now I'm sure most of you are confused over what the boys went through for there Blazers. There had been a change in the dorm system where Dueling is the sole acceptable requirement instead of academics in addition to Prep School no longer being a necessity for being an Obelisk." She looked around for them. "None of you got that so far as Obelisk is the only rank where you girls can have a dorm. However Chancellor Akaba-" She paused before correcting herself. "The Professor is working on that where maybe by the end of the month the Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red Dorms for girls will be available. He also has plans to change the Girl Uniforms to have you all be more comfortable as it's too revealing on most of you all."
"That's a relief." Celina sighed only to pause. "Wait, if they're building more female dorms... we might not have the same roommates."
"Well maybe you all will be if you ranked the same." Fonda assured her over. "You really made a breakthrough with your own skills Celina which is why you will stay an Obelisk when it's all ready. Same for your two roommates."
"Even if there are more rooms?" she clarified.
"Take a look around."
Celina blinked looking around seeing the whole lunchroom is quite packed around to where even if some are separated it would still pack it up. She nodded in understanding. "Right."
"So you know all of who were ranked as?"
"No, only Celina, and her roommates. The Professor told me ahead of time about her." Fonda admitted over to them. "He'll give me the rest in a report when the dorms are finalized."
"Fair enough." Alexis nodded.
"Now enjoy your dinner everyone!" Fonda voiced over with a grin as they cheered.
And finally at the Obelisk Blue Boys Dorm at the same time...
It's quite clear the atmosphere was quite tense as many of the Obelisks there looked to be focused from some fear as while some were Slifers, and Ra they were shifted to Obelisk Blue. Chazz was with some of the few other 'elites' that were lucky to have good dueling skills while good in Academics just staring at the luckies with disgust. Zane himself didn't care as he sat with several while secretly glad to not be hounded with attention every five minutes.
In fact Dr. Crowler himself also looked really annoyed but Barrett was with him to keep him from stepping out of line. "A-Attention. Attention Obelisks?" He clapped his hands to get the attention of everyone.
Hearing his voice they all turned to him.
"I'm pretty sure some of you are... not pleasant with most of these applicants." Well the 'elites' Chazz included would voice it something more serious. "But recently a change in the dorm system has been made. The Professor as he calls himself, had decided that Prep Schooling is no longer a requirement to enter Obelisk Blue, and as such Academics are second nature towards dueling. Now what decides your rank is how good in dueling you all are. Which is precisely the reason why these sl-" He stopped himself reminding himself Barrett was there ready to report him if he does anymore antagonizing. "These applicants are lucky enough to be here... I know how you feel but try to bear with it, they worked there way up here to the elites. Even if they don't deserve it." He muttered that last part to himself.
"Well if you ask me it's a joke, half these people don't even deserve to be here." Chazz pointed out. "You're the vice-chancellor so talk some sense into this Professor and kick out the riffraff."
"Quiet." Was the voice of Barrett who snapped some sense over him while walking towards him with a glare. "The Professor has every sense, and is very fair in his deduction. Academics aren't everything, and they hold no place over dueling." Chazz feels himself sweating nervously from Barrett being so close in his face staring down sternly. "Duel Academy is suppose to be a school for dueling, and while grades are an important factor for your future dueling is the main subject. Everyone here has earned to be at this rank cause they proved there ability as really skilled duelists judged worthy by myself. It doesn't matter how well off you are, or how rich anyone is, there worthless if you lack skill in a duel."
He pulled back turning over to tell everyone else. "You all probably don't feel like Obelisk is right for you, and it just means your hearts are in the right place. You all have the skills, and abilities to earn your way up here, and me with the Professor decided everything fairly otherwise you would be at the bottom as unpolished gems while the Professor values the strength of the students through dueling abilities. But make no mistake cause your here doesn't mean you can rest easy, you got to maintain your status as self-made elites, to prove you've got what it takes. If anyone says otherwise don't let it bother you, just prove it over towards them. Does everyone understand?"
Everyone nodded clearly intimidated but Zane just frowned at that.
"Then... if dueling is so important... why not duel to see if we belong here or not?" Chazz asked trying to regain his composure. "Pick anyone on the island, I guarantee I beat them."
"Hmm... what you say Crowler?" Barrett turned over towards the good doctor.
"W-Well... I'd say we do so. Should probably prove something."
"Very well then." Barrett nodded over before pointing at a random boy. "You! Stand up." The boy slowly nodded standing up showing it's a brown haired boy with red accents. "You will be dueling Chazz to prove you have what it takes. Are you up to the task?"
"Y-Yes sir."
"I can't hear you."
"Yes sir!"
"Louder!"
"YES SIR!" the boy repeated with a shot looking determined.
Barrett gave a satisfied nod. "Very good. After the welcome dinner though, you wouldn't be good on the battlefield if your not properly fed." That made several confused but just rolled with it.
Chazz frowned at that as he started cutting his steak and muttering under his breath so nobody could hear. "Lousy Professor, oh well I'll just show everyone what the Chazz can really do."
A few minutes later...
Sometime before the sun sets everyone went outside to find out the example with Chazz against the boy Barrett called on to be an example only to hear two voices.
"I got your challenge, I've been looking forward to this all day." a male voice smirked. "Let's see what you can really do."
They looked over confused at this. They saw Yuri and Celina standing about to start a duel only to notice them.
"Huh, oh we have an audience?" Yuri inquired turning to Celina with a smirk. "To cheer you up after you lose?"
"That's funny, because you're the one who's going to lose this duel!" Celina replied glaring at him.
"What's going on here?" the boy that was suppose to duel Chazz asked confused over.
Yuri turned over to him. "What's going on here, is that earlier I challenged Celina to a duel but the welcome dinners got in the way. So now that our stomachs are full we can have our match."
"Sir?" the boy turned to Barrett if they either watch or do his own match in the meantime.
He looked before nodding. "They were on the battlefield first, so we'll wait. Though I'll be keeping a close eye on this duel."
They nodded from this looking over towards them while some of the 'elite' Obelisks looked disgusted seeing a Ra Yellow who looks full of himself dueling against an Obelisk already thinking she will win.

"If that's all it takes to catch you off-guard then this'll be easier then I thought. You really think I use the same old tactics? No a Duelist needs to be flexible, and work different strategies." Celina stated over simply towards him. "And Sabre Dancer will show that as since there are Beast-Warriors banished or in our graveyard she gains 200 points for each!"

Yuri only chuckled. "Oh it caught me off guard but only because I hadn't seen the monster before. You're not the only one who held back some tactics Celina."

"Well I don't have anything else." Celina sets a card. "So I'll pass the turn over to you, and I dare you to try to prove to me I'm beneath you."

"Well it's a good thing I expected him to destroy Sabre Dancer. While the way how wasn't how I expected it didn't matter cause I use Lunalight Reincarnation Dance!" Celina activated her face-down.

Yuri frowned as the card returned to his hand.

"When there is a monster summoned from the Extra Deck on your field, I can then use ANY monster from my Extra Deck as one of the monsters I fuse." Celina grinned over.
Yuri's eyes widened hearing that.
"Fusion Summoning using a monster still in the Extra Deck?" one of the Slifer Red turned Obelisk Blue students questioned in shock.
"And I'm sure you remember this gal. Panther Dancer?" Celina grinned showing the card. "Well by using her with both Emerald Bird, and White Rabbit she can go to her MAXIMUM potential!"
The three flew up fusing together in a portal.
"Maximum Potential..." Yuri repeated in awe.
"Elegant beast dancing on the moonlit wilderness! Bird that has the emerald feathers! The white rabbit carrying the luna hammer! Swarm in a vortex of the moon's gravity and revive with a new power! Fusion Summon! Come forth! The king of beasts dancing atop the summit of the moonlight wilderness! Lunalight Leo Dancer!"
Rosing up was a large lion like dancer wielding a large blade in theme with her other Lunalight Fusions showing itself as the most powerful yowling loud.

Yuri's eyes widened hearing that.
"By banishing her Sabre Dancer gives Leo Dancer..." Celina started raising her arm as Leo Dancer grew vastly stronger.

"Her monster just gained 3000 points!" Dr. Crowler cried in shock seeing that.
"And now battle! Leo Dancer attack!" Leo Dancer charges in at Yuri's own Fusion Monster. "And even if you lower the damage with your monster's ability it's still way stronger!"
Yuri frowned as Chimerafflesia's ability activated.

Despite the boost Yuri's monster was overpowered as Leo Dancer sliced it in half and he braced himself from the blow.

"What do you mean by that?" Yuri questioned.
"Leo Dancer isn't keen on ending her performances quite yet which the time to shine is here which is why she's allowed to make another attack at this one battle!"
"Two attacks?" the Obelisk went to duel against Chazz questioned stunned as Leo Dancer charged forward at Yuri.
"Stop right there!" Yuri called. "When you attack me directly I can summon Predaplant Sarraceniant from my hand in defense position!"

Leo Dancer's blade stopped a few inches from Yuri's face as Celina scowled over from this. "Then I attack your ant!" Leo Dancer pulled back moving her blade to backhand, and stabbed down at the ant plant making it screech before shattering.
"My Sarraceniant's ability activates, since it battled it destroys your monster!" Yuri revealed.
Petal bullets appeared which fired down only for Leo Dancer to use her blade to deflect the bullets away avoiding destruction while Celina smirked over. "Pretty cheeky tactic however Leo Dancer can't be destroyed by a special effect!"
"This duel is as good as over." Chazz smirked hearing that only for Yuri's eyes to turn into slits again.
"Well then, it's a good thing my monster has another ability. When Sarraceniant is destroyed in battle or leaves the field from a card effect I can add a Predap card to my hand." Yuri revealed adding a card.
Leo Dancer jumped back behind Celina as she went to her Main Phase 2 looking at the last card in her hand. 'I'm not really sure if he has anything against Leo Dancer... but he told me that whenever I draw this, I have to use it!' "Alright I place 1 card down to end my turn." A face-down appeared before she turned over. "Alright then, Leo Dancer is the most powerful monster on the field! It may lose Sabre Dancer's boost now but nothing you have can defeat her!"

"Oh, I know she's more than earned that right." Yuri smirked. "I summon Predaplant Flytrap in attack position."

Yuri's ace dragon appeared roaring a challenge to Leo Dancer.

Yuri's eyes widened as their monsters flew together creating a massive explosion before it faded revealing both Yuri and Celina were kneeling on the ground.

Suddenly they all heard laughter. Hearing that they looked over confused. Yuri was laughing and looked overjoyed. "I knew it! I knew you would be an entertaining match."
Celina looked over confused from this slowly raising up. "Entertaining? You mean to tell me... you knew I was a fun opponent for you?"
"Of course, I wouldn't challenge someone if they wouldn't be an enjoyable duel." he smirked.
Celina stared over to him surprised before then a grin formed on her face. "Well in that case I'm glad that I proved I was at least not beneath you. I haven't had someone push me like this in a while so this is a nice reminder of how fun Duel Monsters can be. I'm looking forward the next time we meet each other like this."
"Oh absolutely." Yuri smiled back only to stretch. "Though, I think they were waiting for another duel. I'll see you tomorrow in class Celina."
With that he turned and walked off. Celina stared over back before turning over to the Obelisk crowd over before giving a small nod walking off back to the Girl's Dorm. With that situated Barrett clapped his hands loud to get everyone's attention. "Now that that fight is done let's get on with the other one. Chazz, and Cody prepare yourselves for battles."
Hearing that both of the Obelisks stepped forward from this shuffling each other's Decks. Despite the duel they seen some of the 'elite' Obelisks still have doubts about dueling which Barrett will solve with this next match.
"Are you both ready?" Barrett asked over to them.
"Yes sir." the boy, Cody, nodded over.
"I've been ready." Chazz smirked.
Barrett nodded stepping back. "You may begin now!"

Cody as one of the students changed to Obelisk Blue from being a Slifer Red was of course nervous to face one of the Obelisks that really earned his way despite being good at Academics. So he needs to keep his guard up, and use the previous duel as reference against him. 'Now what do I do...?' He checks over his hand before blinking nodding over. "Okay... this can work."
"Trust me slacker, nothing you play can help you." Chazz smirked.
"Well... since you have a monster, I can Normal Summon this card without sacrificing." Cody takes a card placing it. "Gaia the Magical Knight!"
Lowering down was a warrior on a large horse wielding two large black lances, and a long blue cape letting out a warcry as the horse neighed loud.

Seeing that Chazz frowned. 'Seriously, I'll finish this kid on my next turn.'
'Now... do I go with Curse of Dragon, or Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon? There both the same in terms of attack status. And I don't have Dragon Champion on my field so I can't use the Cursed Dragon's abilities for it.' Cody looks over the two cards he is seeing. 'Well looks like this is the best course of action.' With some slight hesitating he takes Curse of Dragon's card. "I'll pick Curse of Dragon!"
Raising up was a yellow scaled serpent like dragon with wings, and spikes around roaring.

Ah man... well no need to change the past.' "Well... not yet. But I got something else..." Softly taking a card he placed it down. "By placing down a card Magical Knight will attack Chthonian Soldier! Magical Spiral Spear!"
The horse neighed charging it at the soldier before Gaia thrusted a lance at it.
Chazz's eyes widened as his monster shattered.

"Chthonian Soldier's ability deals the same damage to you!" he revealed as his monsters sword hit Cody. "And then, I'll use Chthonian Blast to destroy your dragon and deal both of us damage equal to half its attack points!"

Suddenly what rose was a large warrior raising a sword as lightning crackled down which stops Infernal Incinerator from getting ready to attack.
"What?" Chazz questioned seeing that.
"You remember this card?"
They looked seeing the card Cody activated before it gotten destroyed.

"I'm afraid that's where your wrong Chazz." He turned over Barrett who merely stated. "That wasn't luck. One of the most important parts to being a duelist is use any, and all resources to you to the best of your abilities. By thinking of strategies, and way to combine them, you can bring out there true potential that can defeat even the strongest monsters."
For Zane he knows what he's talking about due to him training with the Cyber Style. He gotten this far due to respecting his cards, his opponents, and himself so Barrett's point is that every card has value anywhere, and no matter how quirky or weird they are, they always have the potential to bring the best in a duelist. Most duelists value for power however for Duelists like Cody that are truly the strongest they make cards that don't look much to be able to stand up against even the Egyptian Gods probably.

"Alright... I draw!" Cody drew over determined to fight back after that kinda close call over looking over.
Chazz was glaring at him.
Viewing over his hand he soon got a thought, and nodded over grabbing a card. "Alright... I'll summon Artillery Catapult Turtle!"
Raising up was a different Catapult Turtle then the one there used too.

"What he stupid?" one of the 'elite' Obelisks smirked over. "He has nothing to sacrifice!"
"Don't be too sure." one of the transferred Obelisks stated over. "He does have a monster."
Cody turned over pointing at said monster. "Artillery Catapult Turtle itself!"
"What's the point of that move?" Chazz questioned.
The turtle vanished as Cody grabbed a card. "Well for this. The original Gaia The Fierce Knight!"
Said monster rose up letting out a warcry.

"Well this card Spiral Fusion will prove it wrong." Cody activated the card.

Chazz rolled his eyes and looked only for his eyes to widen. "What the!? 5200 Attack Points!"
Hearing that the 'elite' Obelisks, and Dr. Crowler turned over.

"This... this can't be... he must be cheating somehow!" Dr. Crowler cried seeing that.
"It's the effect of Spiral Fusion." Cody laid down how this was possible. "Whenever I Fusion Summon, Gaia the Dragon Champion with the card it gains 2600 attack points, and the ability to attack monsters twice in a row. In addition Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons counts as Gaia the Dragon Champion."
Chazz's eyes widened as he took a nervous step back.
"Who's the slacker now? Magical Knight of Dragons attack Infernal Incinerator!"
The large dragon monster charged in thrusting both it's spears while the dragon fired a dark fire. Chazz cried out as his monster shattered wiping out the last of his life points.

Cody gave a soft sigh as Barrett turned over. "Cody?" He turned over where the man stated over. "Watch the bragging, it will just bring you trouble. Don't be as arrogant as the rest of these lazy boys (gesturing to the 'elites') cause you defeated one of there own. Underestimating your enemies will be your biggest mistake."
"Yes sir." Cody nodded over from this.
"So what did we learn?" Barrett turned to the 'elites', and Dr. Crowler.
"That from now on rank needs to be earned, not given because of where you went to school before this or how your grades look." Zane answered. "The Professor's changing Duel Academy and it'll take a while to get used to everything, but if those two duels are any clue it's changing for the better."
"Indeed young man. But next time let them answer the question unless I instructed you." Barrett stated over towards Zane as he was with the transferred which he believes isn't one of the 'elites'.
Zane nodded but Dr. Crowler couldn't resist bragging.
"Ah, I don't believe you've met... Barrett this is Zane Truesdale Duel Academy's top student." he grinned.
"Top student eh?" Barrett hearing this turned over towards Zane. "Then tell me Truesdale what is your Dueling Record?"
"Undefeated for the three years I've been a student." Zane answered.
"I see. Deck Theme?" Barrett added over crossing his arms, and cupped his chin.
"I use the Cyber Style." Zane answered calmly.
Barrett nodded over hearing that. "Signature card?"
"Power Bond." Zane replied.
"Hm quite a powerful, and risky card to use. I salute you for willing to take damage." Barrett nodded over from this. "You deserve a medal for risking yourself like that. However what does matter is how you use it. As a fellow machine type user, I know the dangers Power Bond has to offer. But I trust that's never been a problem with you?"
"Not yet." Zane answered though Barrett noticed he didn't say no.
Barrett nodded over to him. "Now final question to see if your really your worth. What does matter truly within dueling. Is it to defeat your opponents at all costs, or is it to respect your opponents, and enjoy it for what it's worth?"
"Respecting your opponents." Zane answered calmly.
"Correct." Barrett turned to the 'elites', and Dr. Crowler. "Even the top student within Duel Academy agrees. Academics are not important to decide your rank, and skill in a duel. Every one of you are in this rank cause you've proven your ability, and made yourselves worthy of being called Obelisks. But do not take this as a way to relax, there will be other duelists within lower ranks that are determined to take your place as Obelisks. So train well, and prove yourselves once more when the need arises when the challenge comes forth. Prove those who challenge you that your worthy to call yourselves Obelisks. Is that clear everyone?"
"Yes sir!" Feeling inspired from the speech the transferred Obelisks Cody included responded well eager to show that they belong in Obelisk as they got the skill while the 'elite' stayed quiet, and Zane watches.
"I can't hear you." Barrett said over to inspire them further.
"SIR YES SIR!" the transferred Obelisks all replied together.
Barrett nodded over before turning to Chazz who looked frustrated looking down at the ground. "Princeton."
"What?" he questioned looking up.
"Drop down, and give me 20. Then after that run 50 laps." Barrett instructed him simply.
"What?" Chazz questioned hearing that.
"Barrett, with all due respect it's the first day and things are changing. Perhaps a warning just this once will suffice?" Dr. Crowler suggested thoughtfully.
"From the way I see it all Duelists are soldiers in a never-ending battle to be the best. As such punishments like these are given to teach them a lesson." Barrett stated over towards Dr. Crowler. "Chazz now has to work to reclaim his pride after being proven wrong by being defeated by one of these people that 'don't deserve' to be Obelisks. I am being lenient however as normally I would give him double but as it's the first day as things are changing only giving him half of what I normally give. No tolerance, or special treatment you gotta fight, and earn your way to the top."
Chazz growled but got down starting to do the push-ups but was muttering angrily under his breath as he did.

bopdog111: As listed over from his personality he is a disciplined soldier veteran, and takes a serious pride towards Dueling it be right to figure that. Since I have experience seeing personalities like this from the Samurai Warriors Playstation games, I get what he was going for even if it's not really the same. Either way he is really gonna set the 'elites' straight by what the Professor employed. Any chance that he, and Viper will be military buds?
