AN: Story's Shadow and I are back with an update for our lovely friends and fans. Heads up there is some really harsh swearing at points in this chapter. We hope you all enjoy, unto the show.
-Imperious' Throne Room, the next day-
Stalker walked into his master's hall, fully suited in his armor, and came to kneel about the throne where his master sat.
"Your Eminence, thank you for freeing me."
The Dragon Emperor nodded with a smile.
"Now you have returned to my side again. It is a pity my soldiers couldn't obtain the Faunians who guarded your cell."
"Your soldiers fought well, but the Wolf was just too strong."
"I wouldn't expect anything less. Still, that is a matter that can be resolved later. For now, my conquest of this universe's Earth can unfold without restraint."
"The true enemy didn't show themselves."
Imperious nodded.
"My attack on Wakanda was an execution of whether they would intervene in this war. It is a pity Wakanda couldn't be taken and though the arrival of this universe's Asgard is a minor inconvenience it still won't win this world the war."
"Did this universe's Wakandan matron deity involve herself in the battle?"
"No, she left the battle to her worshippers. The strongest nation of this world will lick their wounds while I focus the campaign's directive will return to its first target."
"As you command."
Imperious was quiet for a moment, pondering.
"The battle to come will shake the morale of this world's people. They will try to fight back with what strength they can must, but their power is something we have beaten before."
The samurai nodded in agreement.
"I am at your disposal of this battle if you will it."
"Prepare the soldiers for the attack, this must be a decisive victory as always."
"As you command, my lord."
Stalker bowed his head low then stood up and exited the throne room.
-NYC, Manhattan-
Vixen looked at the plate of food she'd been given, it was still fully despite having been on her lap for several minutes now. Her ears were drooped, her thoughts still on the battle earlier. As she dwelled on this, she had picked up the sounds of footsteps at the last moment. In walked a young man who peeled off one of the veils used by S.H.I.E.L.D., revealing himself to be Vulpine.
"You still haven't eaten?"
Vixen shook her head slowly.
"After what we heard about Wakanda...I fear if my father will arrive too late to face Imperious."
Vulpine took a chair and sat beside her.
"I still know little of your adoptive father, so I cannot speak of his mind."
Vixen nodded after a moment.
"He told me his people were entrusted to guard the human race...but now that they've been attacked by Imperious and they haven't arrived yet...I wonder how long this world can hold out till they come."
"Can this army defeat him?"
"In the battle that caused their earlier truce, the army dad commanded had been wiped out by Imperious after losses on both sides. He has to gather all of their military strength to end this war...before Imperious acquires the power he covets."
"Will your father want to take you back to his home?"
Vixen sighed.
"I'm not sure. He gifted me the most powerful weapon in creation and trusted me to wield it as he had before. Though given what nearly happened in the battle the other day...I don't know...and...I'm not sure how he'll feel about us...and everything that's happened between us."
Vulpine's face shifted with shame.
"Given what I'd done to our ancestral home, I cannot say I'd blame him if he'd wish to end me."
Vixen rested a hand on his arm.
"Once everything's explained, he'd know you are committed to stopping the one who made you."
"As for us...given I was fashioned and pushed to manipulate you, that would draw righteous rage."
Vixen sighed.
"I made my choice and despite everything, I don't regret it."
A smile appeared on Vulpine's face which Vixen returned. Not long after this though, Vulpine's smile slowly retreated.
"Regardless...how will we know when they've arrived?"
"Trust me, you'll know."
-Washington D.C., White House, Oval Office, Three Days Later-
Nick Fury under escort of several Secret Service members and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents was led into the oval office. As soon as he entered into the historic room, the agents from both sides quickly turned around and closed the doors to the oval office, leaving Fury alone to have a private talk with President Langford.
Currently the President of the United States could be found sitting behind his desk engaged in a phone call. Fury briefly pondered who the President was talking with, until the answered presented itself to him.
"I understand Mr. Governor." Langford paused briefly to take a breath and listen to what was being told to him over the phone. "I've activated the National Guard nationwide, and Im sending entire battalions to New York City." there was another brief pause. "The Marines are already airborne and are heading to a secure landing site just outside of the Ci–"
Langford paused unexpectedly and it was clear to Fury that he had been interrupted, and he suspected he knew why.
"No, absolutely not!" Langford said firmly and sharply. "Mr. Governor, I am not going to risk flying all troops directly into the city. Not only would our choppers likely be shot down immediately, but we also need to focus on civilian evacuations, and our choppers are needed for that as well." another brief pause. "My staff and I are doing everything we can to stem the tide in New York City." Langford finally looked up from his phone call and saw the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. standing in front of him.
"Mr. Governor, I have an important meeting to attend. I promise I will call you back when I have an update to give you. God be with you and all the people of your state." Langford said sincerely as he ended the phone call and hung up his desk phone.
"The governor thinks your not doing enough?" Fury asked upon seeing Langford try to conceal a heavy sigh.
"Basically." Langford answered in a straightforward manner. "I wish there was more that could be done in all honesty Fury. But the fact of the matter remains, this is an attack unlike anything that not only us here in America has faced, but the entire world has ever faced. Simultaneous attacks world wide across countless countries." Langford informed Fury.
"How are those other countries fairing?" Fury asked.
"Some better than others. Multiple countries across Europe have aligned as a united stand to defend their respective countries and their newfound allies."
"Who's Leading the united front?" Fury asked quickly.
" Great Britain, France, Ireland and Germany." Langford replied.
"And what about other countries across Europe, specifically Russia?" Fury asked quickly.
"Russia is standing alone to defend it's territory. Their leader has called upon all civilians to join their military in defense of their motherland. Their military has formed a defensive ring of steel all around Moscow. He's made it clear that they'll make their last stand around the Russian Capital if the worst comes." Langford informed Fury.
"What about the Asian sector?" Fury pondered.
"Same as across Europe. Some countries are fairing much better than others. Japan and South Korea have already formed a strong military alliance, with Taiwan as well adding financial backing. Those three are also aided by our troops in the 7th Fleet who where already deployed to the region to defend South Korea from any North Korean aggression, they are feeling rather strong, and very determined."
Fury was about to ask another question before Langford raised a hand to silence him.
"Since your about to ask about China: that cyber attack greatly weakened their entire country, most of China is already occupied by the invading forces. Their leader in a move similar to their Russian ally, has deployed everybody possible to defend their country. Their leader has ordered his military to abandon many providence's and pull all forces back to Beijing and the surrounding nearest providence's to make a stand in defense of their capital."
"Have you ben able to establish communications with the Chinese President?" Fury asked quickly.
"Not him directly. I spoke to one of China's top generals, and he was not interested in talking." Langford said bluntly. "In fact he slammed the phone down and presumably swore at me in Chinese." Langford added dryly.
There was silence for a few brief moments.
"Director Fury I directly called you here today to get your direct assistance on many crucial matters. Including this one: months ago aboard Air Force One my plane was attacked by these skeletal creatures. Thankfully two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents where able to thwart that attack, and I give credit where credit is due." Langford complimented Fury.
Fury gave a small look of thankfulness, but he quickly got serious again knowing that Langford was about to get very serious.
"But with that being said... my lead Secret Service officer: Nick Dalton, confided in me that your two agents said and I quote here: 'Captain Marvel didn't tell the president?'" Langford paused for a moment before continuing. "Fury I've got a feeling that you've known about these creatures for months, possibly more or so, and you didn't think it was in your best interest to tell me you knew about these creatures, especially if they where part of an invading army?!" Langford asked, and it was clear he was irritated about being kept in the dark on this matter.
"With all due resp–" Fury was silenced by Langford clearing his throat. Even Fury wouldn't dare silence the President Of The United States.
"Even before I took office when I served in the Senate, I've admired you and your organizations work Fury. And when I was elected to this office I've given you a lot of leash since I know you're a good man and work hard to keep the whole globe safe. But this invasion changes everything Fury. I have to defend the people of my country, so I gotta ask: did you know this was coming?" Langford asked bluntly.
Fury was silent for less than a handful of seconds before answering.
"Yes and 'no." Fury replied.
"It's a basic 'yes' or 'no' question Fury. Langford replied instantly.
"There is nothing basic about this entire situation Mr. President. I did know some things, but I didn't know others." Fury said smoothly.
"Tell me what you did and do know." Langford ordered.
"That's a question I can more easily answer." Fury said simply as he reached into his jacket and pulled out a large file, the words 'Classified' written in bold red text where plainly visible on the front of the file as Fury handed it into the awaiting outstretched right hand of Langford.
Langford opened the file and began to read was written down before him. As he began to get further and further into the file, his eyes widened at the details and revelations that had been marked down including eye witness reports, findings on energy readings, battle reports, and the story the Faunians told. The president actually stumbled into his chair, dropping the file.
"What the hell are we facing, Director?!"
"The greatest threat our universe has ever seen."
President Langford was know stranger to what combat resulted in, he'd read the files of the conflicts in the Middle East and seen photos of both soldiers and civilians after their bodies had been recovered. The news about various super powered threats and foes to the like of the Avengers had always gripped him with concern.
This threat was something he never even considered was a possibility. To have a conqueror of universes on the doorstep to theirs, unleashing his armies upon the world he called home terrified him. Director Fury could see it on his face, the president couldn't hide what gripped him.
"We've been preparing, in the file you'll see we have an ace in the hole: Vixen Starlight."
The president inhaled then exhaled before he reached for the file again. As he continued to read, he got to the page of whom the director was speaking of. A photo of the young Fox was almost dead center on the page it was printed on. Below her was an image of the blade she wielded in battle."
"Oh my God."
"Indeed."
"There is hope."
Director Fury nodded after a moment.
"Vixen is unfortunately out of commission for now, she's resting up after the battle in Manhattan. Her friends, the Secret Warriors, are also wielding such weapons though not of the same caliber."
Langford nodded, his face a mix of emotions.
"Poor girl, that's a lot of pressure."
"Her fellow Faunians are doing the best to help guide her and us as well."
President Langford stood straight up in his chair.
"I'll set a meeting with my generals and any nation that is willing to cooperate. We will create a plan of attack against this Imperious."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. is prepping to send support worldwide to any allied and friendly nations while keeping a strong foothold in the states."
Langford ran one hand down his face.
"A nation wide state of emergency will be needed, we may also have to send extra support to Hawaii and Alaska."
"My agents in both states are aware of the threat and have been working to prepare them for the defense though executive orders would also help."
Langford nodded.
"I just hope these Continuum come to help. We'll need them."
Secret Service members stood outside in suits and in civilian clothing as they kept watch over their charge. They watched as people walked by though there were less people on the streets than usual. The news reports of the attacks on Manhattan and other places across the globe had made some folks more wary of leaving their homes. A few birds did hop along the lawn and on the bushes, chirping like normal.
A few of the Secret Service walked along the perimeter, around the building, or stood close to the front doors with their guard dogs. The dogs began sniffing the air and their ears twitched as they stood erect. This didn't alarm the men at first given the people and birds are, but their attentions turned to the dogs when they began to hear them whimper.
The dogs started backing up slightly, tails tucked between their legs as they started barking and whimpering louder. Their handlers struggled to keep the dogs in place as they tried to move.
"Something's wrong, I've never seen them like this."
The other Secret Service members turned at seeing the dogs began barking louder as they tried to pull their handlers with them to somewhere they didn't know. Some of the men shared the same look of concern and confusion. Then something else gained their attention, along with every other living thing in D.C.
What almost sounded like a roar of horn bellowed out across the city, overpowering the volume of everything else. The dogs cried out in whimpers as they pulled away from their handlers, knocking the men to the ground. As the dogs fled the area, the birds flew off as well. People watched as the animals in the area fled all around them. At the same time, this sudden heaviness and cold in the air fell upon them, this feeling of fear built within everyone.
Once the sound of the horn ended, tears in the space around the city opened up which revealed shiny blank holes taller than the average man and fives times as wide. For a moment or so nothing could be seen or heard from them, then they came. Rank upon rank of soldiers dressed in draconic militarized armor marched into the city. People screamed and ran once they began firing upon police cars that were stationed at different places on the streets.
Director Fury glowered.
"They're here."
A man pushed opened the doors to the oval office, dressed in formal wear and with a gun in hand. The Head of the Secret Service was calling out orders to the men close to him and over their comms.
"Surround the White House, arm up, get snipers and spotters on the roof, reinforce entrances to the building, I'm getting Eagle One and the flock to the nest."
Langford nodded.
"Thank you, Dalton."
White House employees began fleeing to emergency exits as Secret Service officers in the building raced to their barracks. They quickly suited up in protective gear and began loading various weapons after taking them off the racks. The officers rushed out as they each finished gearing up, hurrying to take defensive locations through the building though specifically those closest to entrances and windows.
Lead Secret Serviceman Nick Dalton led President Langford, present members of his staff, and Director Fury along with a handful of agents down towards the bunker. Once they entered, President Langford took out a phone which had a number already pulled up on it.
"I hoped I'd never have to use this damn thing."
Director Fury had his gun out as he pulled up his comms.
"You and me both."
Both then sent out calls.
-Streets of D.C.-
The invaders marched in unison on the streets, shield to shield without seemingly any flaws in their movements. Cops drove their vehicles to make crude blockade as civilians ran past them. One of the officers pulled out bullhorn.
"STOP! PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEADS AND WE WILL-"
From one of the formations of soldiers, the front ranks moved their shields to the side and brandished weapons that the cops couldn't recognize. Before they could even think, the soldiers fired the weapons. Small yet incredibly swift bursts of purplish energy shot forward and blew apart the vehicles and everything within a few of them to pieces.
On one street, a few cops in vehicles almost 30 yards from one of these destroyed blockades watched as the people in front of them were blown away as well as the cars and concrete. Some of them drove to around certain buildings or streets and parked them at a diagonal angle before they jumped out, others drove off in terror at the sight of the invading force's attack.
A few cops hid around their cars and took aim at the soldiers, firing their weapons despite being at a far distance. To their growing worry, they saw none of these armored entities dropping to the ground or even flinching from the gunfire.
"My gun isn't doing a damn thing!"
"What do we do?!"
A cop watched as they saw in the distance, more of these invaders marching in the streets. Their eyes widened at the sight.
"They're on every street!"
Another cop stepped out from cover, aiming their weapon at the closest formation of invaders. His head was then struck by one of these small blasts of energy before it was vaporized. The others officers either screamed at the sight or couldn't even must a word as terror gripped them. Some were splatted with the blood of the dead man even.
One of the cops watched another officers vomit at the sight of the carnage in front of them, while the others looked away from it. Their breath was shaking, their hands were trembling so much that they could hardly keep a hold on their weapon. A few others looked around as they watched the invaders continue to march, never having stopped to take aim.
"F-Fuck! What the fuck do we do?!"
"We're fucked!"
One of the cops felt tears stream down their face, the abject horror at the realization of what was marching in the streets and killing any who pushed against ate at their hearts. In the distance they could hear and see other police officers firing from around their vehicles or on the edge of buildings. Their weapons showed no signs of having done any damage to these soldiers. They too were shot at in retaliation, some were vaporized on the spot or were blown away as bricks and concrete flew apart and hammered against them.
Farther away, they heard more sirens and in the distance more cop cars and trucks with the S.W.A.T. insignia drove into view. Some of the officers smiled in relief at the sight while other were still gripped with terror.
"W-We've gotta fall back!"
"To where?!"
The new cop and S.W.A.T. vehicles took off in different directions and stopped in spots out of view of the invading forces. Officers in body armor and gear hurried to different locations around the streets. Some took positions around buildings whereas others took placements on top of roofs, others laid down from a greater distance as they aimed with their rifles. Others handed out extra assault rifles to regular cops as they all hurried to retaliate against this unknown force.
This didn't appear to cause any halt of movement from the invaders, as they continued to march. Now they faced heavier fire from various angles as cops and S.W.A.T. officers fired with their larger weaponry. The soldiers locked their shields together, weathering the barrage of bullets as they kept marching.
A sniper looked through his scope, attempting to ready a shot. As they looked through it, they could see these entities were fully coated in intricately designed scaled armor and their shields showed no signs of damage. He pulled out his radio.
"We've got an issue."
A S.W.A.T. officer took a flanking position behind one of the charred remains of a cop car with a few more members as they heard this over comms.
"You think?!"
"Listen to me, whoever these guys are they've got some serious heavy armor. I'm talking medieval shit that assault rifle fire isn't scratching."
"Take a shot at one of them to the head, see if that takes 'em down."
The sniper took aim with his gun, fixing the crosshairs to around the helmet of one of the soldiers. He found that these invaders had their shields positioned to guard their flanks as well as the tops of their heads.
"I don't have a clear shot, their shields are too tightly locked together."
"Let's see if I can make an opening for you."
The officer took aim with his weapon, nodding to the others, then fired. The S.W.A.T. officers fired at the flank of one of the marching formations, spraying wide as to try to hit any vulnerable spot. The sniper took aim again, seeing some of the soldiers at the flanks pull aside their shields and open a spot for their helmets. He fired.
The bullet flew at the soldier at high speed and struck the soldier's helmet almost dead center. As he hoped to see the soldiers fall, his eyes widened as he watched the soldier he shot simply have their head back not even an inch.
"No good, their head gear is-"
As he looked through the scope as he spoke over the radio, he saw for the smallest moment a small beam of energy fly at him before it vaporized his head. The S.W.A.T. officer on the ground heard this sickening sound over the radio.
"NO-!"
He started a scream only for he himself also to be vaporized alongside the others by the fire from another the invading soldiers.
-White House, Bunker-
Director Fury fumed as he watched on the screens as the invaders marched through the city, killing everyone that attempted to block their path. He felt the urge to leave the bunker and get involved in the fight himself, he just knew he needed to remain here to guard the president and help coordinate the defense of the city.
President Langford ended a call just a few feet away from.
"The nearest detachment of the military are on their way, but they'll take 15 minutes to arrive in the city."
"I called for backup as well."
"The Avengers?"
"They're all fighting across the world right now. I did send out a message but I don't know if any of them will get here in time or if they could listen to it with all the hell being unleashed. S.H.I.E.L.D. is on its way. It'll be enough."
President Langford nodded as he came to stand beside Director Fury, watching the screens.
"It'll have to be."
The invading soldiers marched around the corpses of the fallen cops and S.W.A.T. officers that attempted to halt their march. Others fled or had been vaporized from their attacks. Buildings had been blown apart and vehicles tossed aside or cut apart as the soldiers made their way towards a specific location.
Secret Service snipers and spotters on the roof had been following their movements through the scopes and binoculars. As the invaders made their way, the officers' eyes widened as unsettling yet terribly unsurprising realization overcame them. One of the snipers readied their comms.
"They're headed for the White House. We've been tracking their movements and they appear to be making their way here. From the different streets, they're likely going to try to surround us."
The voice of their head officer responded.
"Understood. We're getting reports of S.W.A.T. snipers being taken out by these guys, be prepared to move if they get here."
"Understood."
As soon as he finished his response, the familiar sound of helicopters could be heard approaching. A cautious smile appeared on the man's face, taking a moment to glance as the plethora of helicopters flying into the city.
"Kill these bastards, boys."
An AH-64 Apache Helicopter flier led the formation as they got into the city as he spoke on comms.
"We don't much about these b, but don't let your guards don't. Transports, you drop of your men and gather any wounded, fighters we're gonna unleash hell on these guys. I want a detachment to guard the perimeter of the White House but don't stay stationary. Ground troops aren't far behind, let's make these guys pay for every inch of ground they've taken."
The men on the comms spoke in unison.
"Yes sir!"
As the flier commanded, transports moved to close yet out of the way locations to land while fighters moved and surged to around different parts of the city. The flier in the Apache frowned as he approached one of the streets teeming with invaders as a few helicopters flanked him.
"Light 'em up!"
The attack helicopters began firing on the formations of invaders, bullets and missiles raining down on them as they peppered enemy shields and disrupted their formations. Some of the fliers cheered as they watched the soldiers be knocked down or thrown into buildings from their attacks.
The pilot of the Apache continued to fire with his helicopter, flying over the ranks over soldiers as he tried to unleash as much devastation upon them as possible. Some of the other pilots moved to take flanking positions, aiming to strike from angles that would cause any formations they'd attempt to make to be disorganized.
Coming from the transport helicopters, soldiers rushed along the streets while others drove in small jeeps to create blockades against the soldiers. Word had gotten to them that the invaders were marching towards the White House and they'd be directed to prevent this with whatever was in their power.
Soldiers hurried along the streets, some pulling away injured civilians, cops, and S.W.A.T. officers that hadn't been able to flee from the attack. Others made way to take protected positions to start firing upon the invaders. One of the S.W.A.T. officers managed to see this despite the blood on their face.
"W-Wait! They have-!"
Above them they watched another Apache helicopter was shot from afar, the blast destroying the protective shield and then hit the pilot vaporizing them. The helicopter fell to the ground, its blades still moving as it struck. The horrific sound of metal against stone screeched as pieces of the blades broke apart and flew around the area. One of the blades, cut through the torso of one of the soldiers while another pierced through the front of a jeep.
Soldiers started screaming as they scrambled to reorganize and evade the now incoming fire from the invaders. The same pilot of the lead Apache helicopter watched as some of the soldiers got off the ground or emerged from the buildings they'd flown into. His eyes widened as almost most of these soldiers returned to taking formation and continued their march. Though he spotted some of them taking aim which he moved to evade. The helicopter swirled around the area as the blasts cut into the air.
The pilot then called out over the comms.
"We need heavier fire! My guns aren't really doing the trick! A bunch of these bastards are still getting up!"
"Sir, we've missile fire is doing some damage we need to-"
The voice cried out as their sudden scream was cut short by a blast. The pilot fumed as he looked back at the soldier, turning his helicopter to face them.
"You bitch, you bitch!"
He continued firing, also releasing missiles on the soldiers as he moved to flank them. The missiles did disrupt some of their formations but he watched as some of them took aim and fired. The last thing he felt was searing agony.
President Langford and Director Fury watched as now the military was being cut and shot down. These invaders continued to mostly withstand the gunfire and in return shoot down more helicopters and cut down more soldiers. Both watched as the blades of the invaders cut through their weapons and armor as if they were sheets of paper.
Langford felt sweat pouring down his face. He knew the foot troops and tanks were on their way, but part of him felt that it wouldn't matter. Seeing at home powerful these soldiers were, he dreaded what would occur if they met the ground troops. Director Fury's comms had informed him that S.H.I.E.L.D. reinforcements were on there way yet they were still trying to remain undetected to have the element of surprise.
Secret Service watched as the invading forces neared the White House, attempting to surround it as predicted. One of the snipers gritted his teeth as sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Damn it, there's too many."
"Hold your ground, reinforcement are on their way."
"How long?"
"On their way, ETA 5 minutes."
"Shit...are we clear to engage?"
A group of the soldiers fired their weapons, destroying the fence surrounding the White House.
"Engage!"
The Secret Service and White House Security began firing from their defensive positions. The invading soldiers formed ranks, locking their shields together and slowly started to march towards the building. Spotters struggled to find clear points for snipers to target. With the bits of information scrapped together from law enforcement and the military that had arrived it appeared normal weaponry had little to no effect.
Despite this the snipers fired shots at the invaders, their bullets having been switched to armor piercing rounds while they'd awaited the orders to engage. They hoped these bullets would do some damage. Much to their horror as they looked through their scopes, the bullets only appeared to hardly even stun them. One of the sniper's eyes widened as he saw one of the soldiers taking aim at him. He gasped as he jumped away, the blast having been fired just after he jumped. Though it didn't kill him, he felt scorching pain as the blast just grazed him.
He cried out as he tried to keep on the roof, having lost his balance as the burning had hit him below one of his knees and made that leg give out. Another of the snipers rushed over to help him, but he was vaporized by another blast. The injured sniper watched as this happened, eyes widened as the man's blood splattered on him.
"Shit!"
The man grabbed his sidearm and returned fire while he managed to pull himself onto the roof, further out of sight. One of the other snipers rushed to him, managing to stay out of immediate sight and began to perform first aid.
Below them, one of the White House security guards fired from one of the windows as the glass had been blown away by one of the enemy's blasts. His eyes were wide with fear and adrenaline as his hands unsteadily held the gun. This caused the gun's fire to go almost haywire, peppering several soldiers and their shields.
A Secret Service member fired from the other side who also sweated profusely though managed to keep a slightly more firm grasp on his weapon. He turned to the security officer.
"B-Be careful, keep a firm grip on that weapon! We still have some men out there!"
The security officer nodded as he pulled back, a blast being fired from outside that destroyed another chunk of the building behind them. The Secret Service officer looked at the destroyed painting and sculpture in front of him.
"Damn it!...Those were my favorites..."
The security officer almost laughed at this before he turned back to the fight and continued to fire. This caused the Secret Service man to smile for a moment before he continued to fire at the invaders.
Director Fury and President Langford watched as more of the men protecting the White House were vaporized or cut down by the soldiers as some broke from the ranks. Fury fumed at the sight, one hand instinctively going to his sidearm which had been holstered for a time. He then closed his good eye, knowing that his duty pushed him to stay in the Bunker.
President Langford's head dropped at seeing this.
"Damn it!"
Tears started to drip down his face.
"I knew every single one of those men. For Heaven's sake, I invited them to my family's Christmas last year!"
One of his hands slammed down on a table nearby. Director Fury turned from him to back to the screens. He then got a notification on his comms before he turned to the president.
"Mr. President, the ground troops are here."
President Langford turned to him then to the screens, seeing the infantry and tanks approaching the closest flanks of the enemy. A small smile appeared on his face.
"Thank God."
What next happened, they didn't feel it yet saw it and were notified. Bridges and roads in the city were simultaneously blown sky high. Men near these locations were either incinerated or blown away. President Langford's eyes closed as he cursed. Director Fury frowned as he watched the invaders closest to the military turned and began firing upon them. More men were vaporized from their blasts and the nearest tanks were destroyed thus killing more men around them. The staff cried and held one another as they watched the continual death raged in front of them.
Director Fury then got a notification on his comms and a small smile turned to the people in the Bunker.
"The cavalry is here."
They all turned and was something started to appear on screen.
In the sky above the immediate area, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Hericarrier decloaked and armed long range weapons at the invading army. The military, Secret Service, White House security, and even the invaders looked up to see the massive flying fortress loom over them. Within moments, the Hericarrier fired.
The people on the ground watched as the invading army was pummeled by the long range gunfire and they saw the army begin to take damage. Their shields and armor were blasted away or cut as dozens if not hundreds of their soldiers were punched continuously into the ground.
Thanks to Iron Man's advise and designs, the Helicarrier's weapons had been designed for precision strikes at high speeds that mirrored like hand held weapons rather than a cannon. Now with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s extra preparations, the missiles were now crafted with Adamantium that began to scratch and pierce through the armor and shields of the invaders. Invaders began to crumble from the heavy fire from the rare and powerful metal.
The men on the ground cheered as they watched the invaders' numbers drop steadily.
The staff cheered, happy tears streaming down their faces as they hugged. Nick Dalton and President Langford shook hands, smiling in relief. Director Fury sighed slightly at this, feeling a sense of relief as well as he spoke quietly.
"Well done."
The Helicarrier continued to fire down upon the invaders, more of their soldiers being destroyed by the continuous fire from the long range guns. Suddenly, the sky parted as a blast of vibrant red, orange, and yellow energy seared downwards towards the Helicarrier. Accompanying this blast is what sounded like a thunderous roar as it cut through the Helicarrier within moments.
Everyone stood wide eyed, hope turned to horror as they watched the Helicarrier being cut threw and engulfed in what appeared to be a massive stream of fire. Then suddenly the vibrant warm colors of the blast gave way to a cold and bright blue that then instantly vaporized the Helicarrier. Even from in the Bunker, the felt the vibrations from the blast and the terrifying roar that accompanied it.
Director Fury's normal stoic form was now replaced with horror, rage, and perhaps even the slightest hint of despair.
The people who had been cheering at the sight of the Helicarrier now stood screaming or completely silent as they watched the flying fortress vaporize in the intense blast of fiery energy. There was nothing left of it, whatever had done this had left nothing if not ashes of it and the people inside.
Many began to weep in despair, trying to hide from the invaders that regrouped and prepared to march again. Some attempted to level their weapons at the invaders, but the terror that overwhelmed them had made many fall to the ground crying. Still, some managed to reload their weapons though not out of hope of victory or survival. One man's trembling hand just managed to reload his weapon, tears streaming down his face. He leveled his weapon at the invaders.
"...D-Damn you."
The invading forces let out a unified roar and once again began marching towards the last remaining forces preventing their conquest of this universes White House. The army that had only spoken with their weapons had unleashed a sound that sounded like a mix of human and what one might consider alien. This sent new shivers up the spines of those trying to delay and defeat them.
The security forces readied their weapons, knowing this would be their last moments of life. But despite their inner fear, a surreal feeling of calm unexpectedly flowed through them. For they all had a common mind set: if they where going down, they would go down swinging... and send as many of these bastards to hell as possible.
The invading forces inched closer step by step and raised their shields and weapons, a move mirrored by White House security forces. Multiple security force officers where thinking silent prayers, some asking God for mercy or a miracle to turn the tide of this battle or simply wished to see their loved ones one last time.
They all heard it at once. A loud and angelic sounding war horn bellowed, and that horn was joined by two other horns at intervals. The three horns echoed and resonated all across the earth, there where none who didn't hear their angelic sound.
The invading forces stopped dead in their tracks at the sound of those war horns and looked up at they sky, for they knew what those horns meant. Once all three horns had blown their last bellow, an eerie silence of an uncertainty filled the air once occupied by the horns. But then in front of the invasion forces golden portals opened, and out ran armored soldiers all shouting war cries.
The invading forces quickly recovered from their initial surprise and with a loud war shout began opening fire on their old adversaries. These new soldiers spread out and held their non dominant hands forward, and from them emerged golden energy shields, which blocked and or deflected the invading forces energy blasts. Multiple deflected blasts were sent back towards the invasion force. When those blasts made contact, it reduced them to purple ashes. That earned stunned reactions from the White House security forces, both on the battlefield and inside the bunker.
The invading forces stopped in their tracks, dropped down and locked their shields together to form a protective barricade. And it was clear to all present that they where daring these new soldiers to come at them.
From another golden portal emerged a soldier who's helmet had a skull carved into it, and that skull was that of a laughing hyena, and upon seeing the enemies form a protective barricade, reached behind him and pulled something off his back, took aim and fired. A rocket raced forward and struck the enemies self made barricade, a golden fire emerged as the rocket exploded upon contact and instantly broke the enemy formation, and reduced many to ashes.
Laughter emanated from the soldier who had fired the rocket, as he strapped the rocket launcher to his back and pulled something else in its place, which he cocked, and it was apparent it was a shotgun like weapon. He then let out a growling command.
"Let's go, move it up!"
He ran forward with his shotgun towards the invasion force which had begun to take a new formation. These new soldiers made battle cries as they pulled their respective weapons off their backs and began firing a variety of different weapons towards the invaders, ranging from seemingly bullets, to rockets, grenades, and laser blasts.
It was now obvious for White House security that with the arrival of these new soldiers, this battle had gone from a slaughter to a battle, a winnable battle...
