Introduction and stuff:

I am writing this because I was personally unsatisfied with the relationship of Tatsumi and Esdeath in the manga and anime.

This story starts at about chapter 39 in the manga/episode 19 in the anime.

I may be using OC's but I will keep them to a minimum because I personally dislike when writers add a bunch of new characters. But I assure the ones I do add will be for the sake of furthering the plot

I don't know how long the intervals between chapters will be but I will do my very best to finish this story because I am always very disappointed when the story stops mid way through.

The crisp night air howled through the mountains, creating an air of tension as the Night Raid members approached the church. It was situated on a hill overlooking a valley filled with fields of flowers. The serene sight was a beautiful one, a sight in spark contrast to the one to come.

The double arched oak doors flew off their hinges and 5 shadowed figures burst into the room.

Akame, Leone, Najenda, Susanoo, and Tatsumi all saw Bolic at the same time and were about to lunge at his throat when an ice cold voice froze them in fear.

"How nice of you to join us," the voice said, "we were beginning to think that you wouldn't come."

A sheet of ice erupted from the ground, sealing the gaping hole where the doors used to be and trapping Night Raid inside.

The Ice Queen stepped out of the shadows and grinned sadistically.

In a fraction of a second a volley of ice blades were launched towards them. Tatsumi and Susanoo blocked the projectiles, sustaining little damage. The remaining members of Night Raid formed into their pre-decided teams.

Akame and Leone, the fastest members, would be attempting to assassinate Bolic while Tatsumi, Susanoo and Najenda kept Esdeath's attention.

Tatsumi and Susanoo lunged at Esdeath, offering a fight she couldn't decline.

Esdeath laughed as she summoned two spikes of ice from the ground below the male Night Raid members, impaling Susanoo completely, the other dinking off of Tatsumi's armor. It only left a small dent but the force from the impact sent him flying across the room into the concrete wall. Tatsumi laid dazed and disoriented from the flight and impact in a pile of sediment.

"That armor of yours is quite annoying," Esdeath snickered while walking over to Tatsumi, "how could I possibly see the look in your eyes when you realize that this chapel will be your final resting place when you have that mask on?"

Esdeath wound up and delivered a devastating punch to Tatsumi's helmet, the blow sending a shockwave through the building, dislodging dust from the ceiling and sending it fluttering down. The strike greviouisly damaged the helmet, a spiderweb of cracks emanating from the impact point.

Luckily, the helmet was able to hold together, but it, and Tatsumi, wouldn't survive another full-force strike.

As Esdeath was caught in her bloodlust while winding up for the second attack, Najenda landed a powerful kick in the middle of Esdeath's back. Although the attack didn't deliver any real damage to the Ice Queen, it saved Tatsumi's life.

Esdeath whipped around and flung a spear of ice at Najenda, which she narrowly avoided, grazing her face leaving a long thin cut, which dribbled blood down her face.

In the seconds that this happened, Susanoo broke free from his icy shish kebab and quickly regenerated the gaping hole in the left side of his chest.

After only a few short moments, Susanoo rushed to Najenda's side to assist her with Esdeath. When Tatsumi realized that this was his chance, he took the opportunity to turn invisible.

Esdeath had the upper hand in the battle against Najenda and Susanoo but just as she was going to jab Najenda in the gut, she noticed Akame's teigu, Murasame, just inches away from Bolic's throat and getting closer by the millisecond.

Time seemed to move in slow motion as Esdeath summoned angled pillars of ice below her feet that shot her across the room as she simultaneously drew her rapier to deflect the One Cut Killer.

When Esdeath heard the clang of metal on metal she scoffed, believing that she had deflected the asassin's attack. This confidence was broken when blood curdling screams erupted from Bolic, only ending when the black cursed symbols had completely encircled him.

Tatsumi turned visible again and Esdeath saw what had made the sound, Incursio had prevented her rapier from intercepting Murasame only centimeters before it could do so.

Esdeath had failed her mission.

Esdeath chidded herself for getting too absorbed in the battle and forgetting her mission.

"Well, it seems you failed," Leone said with a smirk.

"Hardly," Esdeath replied, "I have the empire's most wanted trapped in a cathedral with me."

Esdeath turned her attention to the unknown person who sat in Incursio's armor infront of her.

She sent a knee towards Tatsumi's face, aiming to break his mask.

Tatsumi barely dodged the attack and jumped backwards, turning invisible, letting Leone and Akame attack from the front while Najenda and Susanoo flanked from the reir.

Esdeath noticed the predicament she was in and thought, "I need to find where Incursio's user went, he's the only real threat."

She closed her eyes and focused, scanning the chapel and confusing Night Raid.

Although they wouldn't let this opportunity pass them by, the four lunged at Esdeath.

Her eyes snapped open and she dodged under Akame's slash, kneed Leone in the stomach and threw her at Najenda, Susanoo and Akame, sending them skittering across the floor. Esdeath's eyes lay fixed on thin air in the church.

"She can't see me," Tatsumi thought, "I hope."

Tatsumi took a nervious step back, causing his armor to make the slightest sound, which was when she leapt at him. He tried to dodge but wasn't quick enough this time, she had him by the throat.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you," Esdeath said, "yet."

Esdeath wound up and struck the face-plate with just enough force to break it.

At the same time, Night Raid was recovering from Esdeath's attack they scrambled to their feet and ran towards the two screaming,

"TATSUMI!" in panic.

The crack of the face-plat shattering echoed throughout the church, followed by the sound of small pieces of metal hitting the floor.

"TATSUMI?!" Esdeath exclaimed in joy and confusion.

The battle and subsequent hit had battered Tatsumi and knocked him unconscious but Esdeath would recognize him anywhere.

The four other Night Raid members lunged at Esdeath, surrounding her, desperately trying to prevent her from kidnapping Tatsumi, again.

Just as their weapons were about to make contact Esdeath screamed, "MAKAHADOMA".

The cathedral was bathed in an eerie pale blue light. A wave of coldness washed over the surrounding area, causing time itself to freeze.

Esdeath gingerly picked up Tatsumi and planted a kiss on his forehead, "I knew we would cross paths again."

Esdeath pondered her options while gazing at the Night Raid members covered in a thin layer of frost.

"If I stay and fight Night Raid I will most likey lose Tatsumi once more. But if I leave with Tatsumi safely, I will lose a great opportunity to capture Night Raid."

Esdeath needed to make her decision fast, as she could sense time slowly thawing.

Esdeath grabbed Incursio,dashed to the door, shattered the ice barrier and ran as far away from the Cathedral as she could before time resumed its endless march.

The four remaing members of Night Raid sliced at thin air and looked at each other panicked.

Najenda spoke up, "Quickly, we must find her before she gets away. I fear Tatsumi will not be able to escape this time."

Night Raid fanned out in all directions looking for Tatsumi, but their serach was in vain. Esdeath and Tatsumi were long gone.
