Chapter 1
Eight Olympian gods and goddesses stood in a semi-circle overlooking the massive throne room. The majestic pillars made of gold and outlined with silver held large white banners with the Olympian symbol decorated on them. The throne room was filled with nymphs, satyrs, minor gods and minor goddesses who were all present to witness the coronation and granting of domains of the new gods and goddesses. In the center of the throne room, eight figures kneeled down in front of the Olympians.
Zeus, the king of the gods and lord of the skies stood straighter and bellowed, "We are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the coronation of the soon to be gods of Olympus. They have proven worthy of the titles that are soon to be bestowed upon them. Up first, Katlyn, daughter of Athena. Please step forward."
A short girl, no taller than five feet and half, stepped forward. She brushed the mid-length brown hair out of her eyes and bowed her head to the gods. Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy smiled and stepped forward. "My daughter, you have proven yourself worthy of a goddess who handles her duties with true wisdom and logic. Your quick thinking in the battlefield has saved many lives and brought many victories to Olympus. I have never been prouder in my whole immortal life."
Katlyn looked up at her mother and smiled. "Thank you, mother."
Athena smiled once more and straightened her hand forward as a blast of white energy came from it, slowly wrapping around Katlyn. The light shimmered around her daughter then later dissolved, revealing Katlyn in a classic, white, Greek toga. A golden circlet adored her head and framed her face, making her eyes shine brighter. A grey aura surrounded her that proved her power.
Athen spoke again, "Your domains have been granted to you. You are now the minor goddess of wisdom, battle strategy, and knowledge. May you serve your people well and make Olympus proud.
Katlyn smiled and bowed before the gods once more. "Thank you, my lords and ladies." She turned around and stepped back in line among her fellow soon to be gods and goddesses. Zeus nodded and spoke again. "Magnus, son of Hephaestus, step forward."
The god next to Katlyn stood and walked forward, his steps shaking ground lightly. He bowed his head before the gods. Hephaestus stepped forward from his throne and smiled. "Magnus my son, you have surpassed all the expectations I have set out for you, your skill as a blacksmith has proven to be one of the best and your handicraft has proven that. You have made me proud today my son."
Magnus looked up at his father and smiled. Hephaestus held out his hand, similar to what Athena did, and brown light emerged from it. It wrapped around Magnus and later revealed him in a brown toga with a belt wrapped around it. Tools hung from the side, each of them glowing with power.
Hephaestus spoke again. "You have been granted your domains and you shall be now known as Magnus minor god of the forges, weaponry, and fire. Serve your people well and make Olympus proud."
Magnus smiled at his father then bowed his head before the gods again before turning around and taking his place beside Katlyn. He felt a light tap against his dark skin making him turn his head to the side. "Good job big guy." Katlyn congratulated.
Magnus smiled. "You too, Kate"
"Callista, daughter of Eros. Step forward." The king of the gods called. A beautiful girl stood from her place beside Magnus and walked towards the council. Her long brown hair, braided and adorned with flowers. Her skin, perfect and flawless. Her face showed no trace of mistake, everything proportional. Her eyes were the color of sapphires, shining with beauty. No one would doubt that she truly was the daughter of the love god. Many minor gods and goddesses from the crowd turned their heads and marveled at her beauty.
Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty stepped forward from her throne and flashed a radiant smile that made almost every single person in the room faint. "Callista, my son's daughter, my granddaughter, although I'd hate to look that old." she teased causing many to chuckle. Once the chuckling had stopped, the love goddess continued. "You have blessed the people of Olympus with your kindness and courage. Your service in the Royal Guard has proved your loyalty and love for the city and I am proud."
Callista gave a small smile. "Thank you, my lady."
Aphrodite nodded and held out her hand, releasing a flash of pink light that surrounded her granddaughter. The light had died down, revealing a Callista in a beautiful white toga. Golden armbands decorated her forearms, rings of gold and silver sat on each finger. If anyone had doubted her beauty before, they sure as hell wouldn't have doubted now. Aphrodite spoke again, "Your domains have been granted to you. Callista, minor goddess of love, beauty, hope, and courage. Spread love, child, and make Olympus proud. Callista smiled at her grandmother then bowed before the Olympians before walking back to her place, still leaving many gods and goddesses in awe.
Zeus smiled once more and called, "Rory, daughter of Hades, and my goddaughter, please step forward." A girl with obsidian dark hair that matched her eyes stood from the line and walked forward. Her pale skin shined in the light as she walked.
The king of the gods smiled at his goddaughter and spoke again. "Rory, my goddaughter, your father could not make it to the ceremony as he is held up in the underworld with the overflow of souls. I will be the one to grant you your domains." Many raised their eyebrows at this. Zeus was not the type to show any compassion or love towards one of his brothers' children but apparently, Rory was a different case. She had surprised Zeus with her respect and courtesy when he came to visit his brother in the underworld. The king of the gods was even more surprised when she pledged her allegiance as one of the members of the Blackguard. He had a soft spot for the young godling and considered her as one of her own.
"Thank you, uncle," Rory said with appreciation.
The lord of the skies smiled as he raised his hand making blue light surge forward. After the light had gone, Rory stood in a simple black dress decorated with silver and gold to symbolize her father's domain over wealth. "Rory, your domains have been granted to you. You hold power as the minor goddess of spirits, the underworld, riches, and shadows. Your services here on Olympus as a member of the Blackguard have proven your ferocity in battle and determination. May you serve your people well and make Olympus proud. I am proud of you, Rori." Zeus announced. Rory smiled at her godfather and bowed before the council before turning back and making her way to stand beside Callista.
Zeus then cleared his throat and spoke again. "The next set gods will be granted their domains by the three fates themselves as they are to join the Olympian council. Lancelot, son of Poseidon, please step forward."
A young man with tan skin and brown hair stood and walked towards the gods. He bowed before the council and turned to the fates who stood next to Zeus. The three old women held up their hands and began to chant in ancient Greek. Three beams of light surged forward from each of their hands as they wrapped around Lancelot. After the lights had faded, Lancelot stood in gleaming blue armor that matched the ocean. On his right hand, he held a trident that was glowing sea green with power.
The three fates spoke again, this time, normally. "All hail Lancelot, son of Poseidon, Olympian god of tides, water, and sea creatures. Serve Olympus well, young one, and make your people proud." Lancelot nodded and smiled at the council, not failing to see his father beaming with pride. He bowed then turned and walked back to his fellow gods.
"Hermes, my son, step forward," Zeus called. A young boy, around the age of thirteen, stood from his place, and walked forward. His semi-long brown hair split into two sides, gleamed as the sun kissed it. A mischievous smile decorated his face and mirth filled his eyes. Just by looking at him, one could already tell that he was a troublemaker.
The fates once again shot beams of light, wrapping around Hermes. Once the light had faded, the young boy now stood in a white toga. Golden sandals with wings replaced his regular ones. He now held a scepter with two snakes wrapped around it that was also glowing with power, similar to Lancelot's trident.
The three fates stepped forward. "All hail Hermes, Olympian god of thieves, trickery, speed, travelers, and mischief. Serve Olympus well and for the love of Olympus child, tone down with the tricks." They said, finishing the last part with smiles. Hermes chuckled at the thought of his tricks.
Many gods and goddesses shuffled nervously at the domains given to Hermes. Almost all of them had been victims to his little tricks. Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, had woken up one morning to find her whole garden decorated with easter eggs. Hera, goddess of family and queen of the gods, had walked into her garden to find one of her peacocks lacking all its feathers. Although Hermes was not her own, she treated him like one. Her husband had begged her to help him raise the child. She couldn't refuse once she saw the cute little baby. Zeus himself had fallen to one of his son's tricks. Hermes had placed tree sap on his throne before a meeting was held. After the meeting, when Zeus tried to stand up, part of his toga had ripped and stuck to the surface of the throne. At first, he was outraged and pulled out his master bolt but he calmed down and sighed once he heard the giggles of his devious child. He honestly didn't know where he and Hera had gone wrong with raising that child.
Hermes turned and walked back to his place. Zeus cleared his throat again and called, "Artemis and Apollo, my twin children, step forward." The twins stepped up from their positions and walked forward. Artemis wore a silver toga and a simple silver crown over her auburn hair that was braided simply over her shoulder. Apollo wore the complete opposite. He sported a golden toga with golden wristbands. His long blonde hair reached to his shoulders and seemed to be brighter than the sun itself.
The fates did their thing and sent surges of lights toward each twin. When the light had faded, both twins' clothes hadn't changed but they now held bows on their hands and quivers on their backs. Artemis' silver and Apollo's gold.
The fates spoke turning towards Artemis first, "All hail Artemis, Olympian goddess of archery, nature, hunting, chastity, and the moon. You have proven you service well as leader of the hunt and protecting the lands of Olympus. May you continue to serve your people well and make Olympus proud."
Artemis smiled and bowed at the fates.
They then turned to Apollo and spoke again, "All hail Apollo, Olympian god of archery, medicine, truth, prophecy, and the sun. You have served your kingdom with true courage as captain of the Royalguard. You have protected the citizens of Olympus dutifully with your honor. May you continue to serve them well and make them proud." Both twins smiled then bowed towards the council, noticing their father smiling with pride.
Zeus smiled at his twin children with pride. Finally he spoke again, "And lastly, we have my son, Achilles. Step forward." A young man stood from his place and walked towards the gods. He shared no physical traits with his father except for his vibrant blue eyes that apparently all children of Zeus had. His other physical traits, he shared with his mother Hera. His facial features were similar to the Queen of the gods. His hair was the same color and his smile was exactly the way Hera smiled. Even his glare mirrored his mother's and sent shivers up people's spines. He stepped before the council and bowed.
The fates seemed to be talking among themselves for a moment. After their little huddle, they spoke, "This one is special", earning confused looks from many gods and even Achilles himself.
Before Zeus could ask, the fates shot beams of light towards the young godling. When it disappeared, he was now decorated with pitch black, greek styled armor that was outlined with gold and silver. Shadows and dark energy swirled around him almost as if attracted to him. A longsword that matched the color of his armor that stretched to around five feet hung on his back and another shorter sword that was silver was held on his hand.
"As you know, the god of war Ares has faded in battle. Olympus needs a new one. All hail, Achilles, Olympian god of war, darkness, swordsmanship, fear, and death. You share the domain of death with the god Thanatos. Your domain of fear has been transferred to you since Phobos, its original god, has failed to do his duties and has betrayed Olympus by killing his father Ares in battle. You have served Olympus well as Captain of the Blackguard. You live up to your namesake Achilles as your skill with the sword matches his. May you serve your city well and make Olympus proud."
Zeus smiled at his son with pride along with Hera. Before they could speak though, the throne doors burst open revealing a very angry god.
"OLYMPIANS" the god bellowed.
Zeus materialized his master bolt while the rest of the gods materialized their own weapons. The angry god strode forward and stopped before the newly coronated gods who had their weapons out as well. Katlyn had her spear in her hand, ready to fight. Magnus held a large hammer over his shoulder as he glared at the angry god. Callista had her hunting knives drawn in an icepick grip, Rory had her sword in her hand as she got in stance, ready to fight as well. Lancelot and Hermes leveled their weapons, both the trident and the scepter glowing with power while the twin archers had their bows up with arrows drawn, ready to fire.
Zeus eyed the angry god and realized who he was. "Phobos." He said with gritted teeth.
"You dare come back here after you betrayed Olympus by killing your father!?"
The angry god smirked. "I didn't want to come back to this shit pile of a city but these three hags forced me to." he said, pointing at the fates. "You dare take my domains away?!"
The three fates didn't even flinch. "You do know we could make you fade with a snap of our fingers godling?." they threatened. However, before they could, someone spoke.
"Enough. The domain of fear was granted to me Phobos. I did not ask for it. If you have a problem, you take it up with me." Achilles said from his place. Phobos glared at the young god before drawing his sword causing a lot of gods to level their weapons at him. He pointed his sword at the Achilles and said, "A duel. You and me fight, right here, right now and the winner takes the domain. If I lose, I will leave and never step foot on Olympus again. I swear it on the river Styx."
Thunder rumbled in the background, sealing the oath.
Zeus turned to his son. "Achilles you do not have to accept this." Achilles shook his head. "You're mistaken father. I do. I have to prove that I am more worthy of this domain than he is." with that, he turned back to Phobos. "Bold of you to assume that I'll let you live after this." He leveled his shorter sword and got into stance as a black shield sprung on his left wrist.
Many would have mistaken this as arrogance but everyone in the throne room who has seen Achilles fight, knew that he spoke nothing but the truth. His skill with the sword was known throughout the lands and many thought Phobos to be crazy to challenge him.
Phobos growled and charged Achilles, thrusting his sword toward Achilles mid-section. Achilles parried and pushed the sword aside with his own and moved in closer, trying to overwhelm the domainless god.
Achilles went on the offensive, slashing and stabbing at Phobos who was already struggling to keep up. Achilles swung his sword in a deadly arc with such speed that Phobos didn't have time to dodge, forcing him to block. The power behind Achilles' sword was enough to knock Phobos' sword out of his own hands. The sword clattered on the floor, echoing the silent throne room.
Before Phobos could run and grab his sword, Achilles spun and buried his sword deep into Phobos' shoulder. Phobos roared in pain as he collapsed on his knees. Golden Ichor flowed from his wound as Achilles wrenched the sword out. Phobos looked up at him to find the young god's eyes glowing red. Screams of the dead echoed throughout the throne room, making many flinch in fear but none of them shook as much as Phobos who was now sweating.
"Mercy! Mercy please!" he begged.
Achilles sneered and let go of the pathetic god as he turned around and walked off. He smiled at his fellow gods who were all smiling back at him with pride but he noticed Callista, who's eyes had grown wide.
"Achilles behind you!" she warned.
The young god turned and dodged instinctively as he watched Phobos fall to the ground with a knife in his hand. Achilles' face morphed into one of anger as he strode forward and grabbed the god by the collar.
"I show you mercy and this is what you show!?"
Before Phobos could answer, Achilles slashed his sword to the side, cutting open the god's throat, making ichor pour out. He dropped the choking god on the floor as he turned back to the council. His father and all the other gods were staring at him in shock. After a few moments, Zeus cleared his throat. "Well, that was an interesting occurrence of events. Phobos chose his fate the moment he tried to stab my son in the back. Now that that is over, let us celebrate!"
