Prologue:

Third person pov:

Gaoling, Beifong mansion

Pained screams could be heard through the entirety of the estate but there only three people to hear it all. The one who was screaming in pain was going through the greatest or worst tribulation a woman can go through and that is child birth.

The woman who was giving birth, looked to be in her early 30's with an angular face, high cheek bones, pearlescent skin covered in sweat, jade eyes wide in pain, raven black hair matted from sweat, and her name is Lin Beifong.

The second women helping her through this, looked to be in her 70's with aged kind face, wrinkled tan skin, crystal blue eyes, white hair pulled back into a bun with connecting hair loops to the front hair, and this woman was Katara of the Water tribe.

The third women looked to be in her late 60s with an aged regal face, aged pale skin, pale clouded eyes, grey shoulder length hair and this woman is Toph Beifong, Lin's mother.

"Come on Lin give me another push you're almost there." Katara encouraged.

"Don't you think I'm pushing!" Lin yelled, annoyance radiating through her voice.

Toph sits quietly waiting to meet her grandchild with blank visage upon her face the entire time.

Katara yells, "One more push!" Lin lets out one final scream.

All goes still, the only sound to be heard was the breath of those in the room.

Silence was broken by the cries of a babe, Katara says to Lin, "It's a boy."

Katara wraps the infant in a dark green blanket, and hands him off to the new mother. The babe instantly stops its cries, and just stares at Lin with wide eyes.

"What are you going to name him?" Katara asked, smiling broadly.

Lin says, "Lao, Lao Beifong after his grandfather." Looking down at her son with joy.

"Let me see my grandson!" Toph demanded, standing at the foot of the bed with an exasperated look on her face.

"Ok mother." Lin said, handing him to her.

She looks at him with a smile, "He has the Beifong looks." She said, looking over at Lin.

Toph handed Lao back to her daughter.

"We should leave her, and little Lao to rest, Toph." Katara said, heading to the door.

Standing in the doorway, "Ok." Toph saud, leaving the room with Katara.

"Sorry little one, but you're better off on your own." She whispered with tears in her eyes.

In her minds eye she can already see what he will be like when he grows up, and this breaks her heart even further then it already was broken.

Two days later:

Third pov:

Republic city, orphanage.

Early in the morning just before sunrise, a baby in a woven basket, wrapped up in a dark green blanket was left on the doorstep of the orphanage with a small bundle of papers, and a bronze pendant of a flying boar.

As Lin starts to walk away, the babe starts to wail," I am sorry." She whispered, trying not cry.

She leaves before she changes her mind.

Soon the door was opened, and a young woman named Yenay looks around for the source of the cries.

Finding the source was a baby left on the doorstep, she picks him up along with the basket, and its contents.

"Let's get you inside little one." She says, while calmly swaying him.

Not noticing someone in the distance watching.

Once she was inside, she heads into the nursey and places him into an empty crib.

Leaving the Nursey, and headed to her office at the back of the orphanage with the bundle of papers, and necklace in hand.

Sitting down at her desk, and began to read the first paper.

To whoever is reading this note, the baby his name is Lao, please take care of him, please watch out for him, please help him along his way, tell him that he was cherished and loved when he was brought into this world. May he forgive me. Give these notes and the pendant to him on his 16th birthday.

Yenay puts down the note with a look of sadness shown upon her face, she picks up the second paper, and starts to read.

Dear, Lao

I knew the minute I saw your eyes that you were the light of my eye, but I knew I could not give you the life that you needed. No matter what you do in the future or who you are in the future know that I will always be proud of you. I only hope that you do not hate me for leaving you.

Love, Mom

Yenay puts down the note with closed teary eyes, takes the letters, the pendant, and places them in a hidden compartment in her desk.

Locking the compartment she leaves her office, and heads to her bedroom.
